We found this week's guest (final guest of Outlook 2022) through this other recent guest Kyle Kiper, both from Arkansas. This week on Outlook we're speaking with Cindy Scott-Huisman about art, creativity, and ingenuity. We discuss Cindy's journey with her son's and her own Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON), Cantrell Gallery which has been in her family for half a century and the pride she has in her work there, and about how Scott-Huisman took chances on a continued happy life post LHON diagnosis. We at Outlook always like to learn, through another's self description, what they still can and do see, but we love discussing art (in all its forms) with those who also love it. Financial planning is an ongoing, iterative process. But it always starts with identifying and defining goals. Why are you saving money? When do you plan to retire? How much do you spend now? Are you saving for college? The more specificity that can be added to each goal, the more likely it is to be achieved. No matter your stage in life, whether you are just starting out saving and investing or are well into your working years with a plan already in place, you need to evaluate your goals regularly. Our circumstances in life often change—and so should our plans. In this episode, Mark speaks with Cindy Scott. "What color is the car you just parked next to?""How many people are standing in line behind you?""What mile marker did you just pass on the freeway?"Situational Awareness is being aware of your surroundings at all times. Not to the point of paranoia believing there is a boogie man hiding behind every bush, but taking charge of your space and your environment. How many times were you so focused on replying to a text message as you were walking across the parking lot that you tripped on the curb? How many times were you changing songs on your playlist and you bumped into someone or something along the way? Has anyone ever materialized in your "space" and you have no idea where they came from?Cindy Scott joins me again this week, as we discuss levels of awareness and how to protect ourselves and our families if that moment ever came, where we had to.Protecting yourself does not always mean relying upon a firearm to do so. There are several other ways to do so, including pepper spray, a bright flashlight, and your own booming voice in the face of someone who should not be in your space.I hope you take away some ideas how to be prepared for any situation, when you step out of the comforts of your home or your vehicle. If something does not look right, it's not. If something does not feel right, it's not. Meet my friend Cindy Scott - She is the owner and created Galveston Gal Firearms Training to offer safe, friendly instruction to law-abiding, everyday folks who want to learn more about personal safety and defensive tools. Her training is primarily focused on welcoming women into the defensive training world. Finding women firearm instructors are hard to find! Cindy tells us about her journey into learning about firearms, starting her business, and taking on the Leadership role as the Facilitator of the League City Chapter of A Girl & A Gun. This is the only Chapter with a Leadership Team all certified as NRA Pistol Instructors, and now are branching out to be Rifle and Shotgun Instructors as well! It's such a pleasure chatting with Ms. Cindy and sharing our experiences teaching both men and women all about firearms. Women not only learn differently than men do, but women think differently and TEACH differently than men do too! Enjoy hearing all about us having a great time sharing our stories!!
Cindy shares the story of how Hyundai went from targeting used car buyers to becoming a mass market player. And we learn the single word that defines everything the brand does.
