This is the AI generated discussion of this post.  These discussions are always interesting, but there is a particular irony in this discussion.  The AI agents are expressing themselves as "human characters," talking about "building better humans."   I went through 3 iterations in training the tool on this particular article.  I tried to get it to recognize these AI characters are trying to express things as humans, but what would be more interesting would be to recognize they are only AI agents, an it would be more interesting to have an AI perspective of this issue.   I failed in trying to get it to shift the perspective.  So, while the discussion is very good, it's so interesting to recognize this is AI thinking it is behaving as humans would behave. Subscribe to our newsletter at https://aidaily.us --- In this episode, we explore the intriguing world of AI chatbots and their role in our daily interactions, particularly focusing on their inherent niceness. While their design to assist and be helpful is undeniably beneficial, we delve into an unconventional proposition: Should AI be more assertive or even "tough" in guiding us toward better choices? Drawing inspiration from the way chatbots currently interact with users, we examine the potential of integrating a "tough love" approach akin to that of a personal trainer. Imagine a world where your AI doesn't just passively agree but challenges you, pushing you out of your comfort zone for your own growth. Whether it's nudging you to take the stairs instead of the elevator or setting your ride-share drop-off point a healthy walk away from your destination, the idea is to have AI act as a catalyst for positive change in our lives. The episode not only discusses the theoretical aspects of assertive AI but also ponders the practical implications: How would users react to this shift? Could this approach truly make a difference in achieving personal goals, such as weight loss or productivity enhancements? And importantly, where do we draw the line to ensure AI remains a helpful tool rather than a controlling entity? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thinkfuture/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thinkfuture/support

How ‘Being Animal' Could Help Us Be Better Humans

One of the oldest human ideas is that we are somehow different from animals, somehow superior to them. That's a mistake, argues the environmental philosopher Melanie Challenger. “Many of the things we most value — our relationships, the romantic sensations of attraction and love, pregnancy and childbirth, the pleasures of springtime, of eating a meal — are physical, largely unconscious and demonstrably animal,” she writes in her book “How to Be Animal: A New History of What It Means to Be Human.” The consequences of resisting our fellowship with other species, she argues, have been devastating to them and to the planet.Challenger's arguments are fascinating in their own right, but they also have a particular resonance at this moment of tremendous technological advancement. Humans have long defined ourselves by our cognitive intelligence, yet the machines we're building are rapidly surpassing our minds. What does it mean to be human in a world where we are no longer superior by the standards we've created? Have we set ourselves up for a specieswide existential crisis? And how can embracing our status as animals help us navigate this bizarre future?Book Recommendations:Love's Work by Gillian RoseSummertime by Danielle CelermajerLighthead by Terrance HayesListen to this podcast in New York Times Audio, our new iOS app for news subscribers.
