RELATED BROWN-SUGAR PEAR PUFF PASTRIES PREP COOK TOTAL SERVES 10 MIN 10 MIN 20 MIN 4 SERVINGS Ingredients 2 to 4 oranges, grapefruits, blood oranges or mandarins 3 tablespoons honey 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil Four 1-inch-thick slices brioche 4 tablespoons (56g) unsalted butter, at room temperature ¼ cup (53g) light brown sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Seeds from ½ vanilla bean (or 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract) 1 cup (227g) high quality ricotta cheese Flaky sea salt, for serving GET INGREDIENTS Powered by Chicory Directions 1. Use a sharp knife to remove the peels and pith from the citrus, then slice into ½-inch-thick rounds. Place the pieces of citrus (and any juices) in an even layer on a baking sheet. Drizzle the honey and olive oil evenly over the slices. 2. Turn the broiler on low, then transfer the baking sheet to the top rack of the oven. Broil until the juices bubble and begin to thicken on the baking sheet, and the citrus begins to caramelize, about 4 minutes. 3. While the citrus cooks, place the slices of brioche on another baking sheet. In a small bowl, stir the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla until well combined. 4. When the citrus is caramelized, remove the pan from the oven and cool. Transfer the brioche to the oven and toast until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Place a heaping tablespoon of the butter mixture on each slice and spread into an even layer. 5. Scoop ¼ of the ricotta on top of each piece of bread, and spread into an even layer. Top with about ¼ of the citrus. Transfer each to a plate, and garnish with a drizzle of any of the remaining juices and a sprinkling of flaky salt. https://www.purewow.com/recipes/broiled-citrus-ricotta-toast?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Recipes_November_17_2022&utm_content=B&utm_term=recipes "

Story Time Slayer Podcast presents the murder of Linda Bailey Brown at the hands of her own family March 19, 1985. Linda was a beautiful young woman, only 23 when her step-daughter Cinnamon shot her in cold blood & then attempted suicide. Although it seemed like an open and shut case there was something extremely suspicious about the circumstances. Although Cinnamon had a handwritten confession saying she didn't mean to hurt Linda, had to be treated for a drug over dose and verbally confessed to shooting and killing Linda...the whole thing just felt odd. Cinnamon had confessed to doing the crime while under the influence of drugs. However, after recovering from the drug overdose Cinnamon maintained for 3 years she had absolutely no memory of the night Linda died. People who knew Cinnamon were totally shocked she could have done something like this. Cinnamon was only 14 at the time of the crime. She was tried as a juvenile and received a sentence of 27 years to life. What people had no way of knowing is that Cinnamon had not acted alone nor killed her step-mother out of jealousy. Cinnamon wasn't even jealous of Linda. Cinnamon also didn't have amnesia-her dad was telling her to say she couldn't remember anything and he would work with attorneys to get her out of jail sooner. On top of this seeming completely out of character for Cinnamon...it does not go unnoticed that Patti is constantly with David and had seemingly taken Linda's spot. Patti even wears Linda's clothing & jewelry. When Cinnamon finds out that her dad is not trying to get her out of prison and is instead living a lavish life of luxury and had a baby with Linda's sister Patti(only 16 when Linda was shot), Cinnamon tells the truth. She had been duped by her father so he could collect almost a million dollars in life insurance & have a relationship with Linda's teenage sister Patti. Tune in to hear the life and crimes of David Brown and how he ultimately manipulated his teenage daughter and teenage lover/sister-in-law into murdering his wife Linda in cold blood. "I am of Greek descent.  My grandmother instilled values and also taught me how to cook.  Her name was also Kanella." Kanella translates to Cinnamon in English.   “I want to be a part of the neighborhood.  A neighborhood cafe is where folks can enjoy the food in a fun atmosphere.” "There's also more to me than the cafe.  Once a month I help out All Faiths Receiving Home.  It is a children’s advocacy center for children whom are removed from their home for various reasons.  Counselors there treat the whole family unit.  I've set up ways for cafe patrons to donate if they wish." Kanella Chronis Owner                         Cinnamon Sugar and Spice Cafe Advocate for helping children James is the lead cook for the cooking classes.   “Cook what you want to eat.” “The classes are a hands-on approach where every step is shown.  We use recipe cards.  It’s also never fun to cook when you’re hungry so during the classes we eat!” “I got started in doing these cooking classes from a visit to a Kindergarten class.  I was a guest baker for my child’s Kindergarten class and I had so much fun teaching them.  They had fun.  I wanted to do this for a living.” The positive imprint came from Kindergartners.  That is awesome!! "The cooking classes are for adults and children.  The children’s classes are for nine to fourteen years of age.  I also do a ‘Kids Camp.’ “I love the Kids Camp.  The Camp is for two or three days and for about three hours each day.  A favorite has been the crepes with kids.” “They enjoy the cooking and creative aspects of it.  There’s even competitions.” Kanella says, “Yes, and James is so good with the children.  He will even showcase the winner’s creation during a weekend to honor the winner.” Chef James Garrigan Lead chef for cooking classes Advocates learning cooking and baking skills for all ages. Stefin hopes she jots down the recipe to this delicious sounding bit of kitchen resuscitation so we can all enjoy her one-of-a-kind Caramel-Pumpkin-Pecan-Cream Cheese Cake. Speaking of delicious, both hosts were charmed by the retro glam Coconut-Pumpkin Chiffon Pie, a beautifully extravagant, light, fluffy, and tasty dessert that could become a regular on your holiday table, or be the reason you start eating pumpkin pie in April. Under the name Connie Archer, my guest today writes the Soup Lover's Mysteries. Under Connie di Marco, she is launching a new series on June 8th, the Zodiac Series. Whatever name she uses, Connie is a terrific storyteller with a lot of heart, and I am thrilled to be talking to her today. We cover a lot of ground, from the allure of cozies to creating memorable characters, to the true-life crazy things that can happen in a small town. And we talk about her blog tour, which you definitely want in on, since every stop generally involves a Madness of Mercury book giveaway. I link HERE to Connie di Marco's home page for more info on the Zodiac series, and HERE to the page that has links to all her blog tour stops. Connie Archer's website can be found here for you soup lovers (you can find one of her recipes at Cinnamon Sugar and a Little Bit of Murder). Here, in order, are the five books in the Soup Lover's Mysteries series: 1 - A Spoonful of Murder 2 - A Broth of Betrayal 3 - A Roux of Revenge 4 - Ladle to the Grave 5 - A Clue in the Stew For her latest book, The Madness of Mercury, book one of the Zodiac Series, Connie was inspired by someone who lived in San Francisco at the same time she did: Jim Jones, of the Jonestown Massacre. Very creepy. On a slightly less deadly note, we also talk about the Rashneeshees and their poisoning of a town in an attempt to win elections (luckily, no lives were lost, but it was a close call). Connie also gives a shout out to Sue Grafton and to cozy writer Nancy Parra, who writes (among other things) a gluten-free cozy series. If you'd rather read than listen, the transcript is below. Enjoy! Transcript for Connie di Marco/Connie Archer interview: Welcome to Destination Mystery, a podcast for readers who love a good mystery. I'm Laura Brennan. Laura Brennan: My guest today is a bestselling mystery author with a double identity. As Connie Archer, she writes the Soup Lover’s Mysteries, set in the village of Snowflake, Vermont. As Connie di Marco, she has a new series, the Zodiac Mysteries, which debut with The Madness of Mercury on June 8th. Connie, thank you for joining me. Connie di Marco: Thank you, Laura. Laura: So you are not just one author, you are two authors. Connie: Well, one author with two identities. Laura: So tell me a little bit about how that happened. Let’s start with soup. The Soup Lover’s Mysteries, how did you start writing those cozies? Connie: Well, I had been very lucky to find an agent pretty quickly, which I later realized was extremely difficult. And my agent loved the concept of my first book, and the book did not sell. They liked it, but it was also partly economic reasons, too, because it was 2007-2008 and a lot of the major publishers were laying people off and the economy was really going south. So, I wasn't actually surprised at that, there was no negativity in the rejections, it was just like, well, we don't think this is quite what will sell. Undaunted, I continue to write. And my agent called me and she said, would you be interested in doing this series for Penguin? And I said sure, because mostly because I really wanted my agent to keep working for me. And that's how the soup lover’s mysteries came about. I was born in Boston, I grew up there and I certainly know New England and I also love to make soup, so it seemed like a really good match. And it was released in August 2012, A Spoonful of Murder. And it was an amazing success. People seemed to really like it and seemed to really connect with the characters. Laura: One of the things, for me, that I really love about it is the recurring characters. You give the whole town such enormous personality. One of the great pleasures is coming back to every novel. Did you base any of those people on people you knew? Connie: No, I guess -- I did grow up in New England, I’ve certainly seen a lot of smaller towns and villages,
