Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine offer a different way to understand the body, especially when it comes to chronic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, stress, digestion, anxiety, inflammation, nervous system dysregulation, and unexplained symptoms. In this episode of hol+, Dr. Taz sits down with Dr. Jordan Barber, clinician, educator, published researcher, licensed acupuncturist, and author of Thinking in Chinese Medicine: A Patient's Guide to Acupuncture, Herbs, and Healing, for a grounded conversation about what Chinese medicine actually is, why it has been misunderstood in the West, and how it can help us see chronic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, stress, symptoms, and whole-body health through a more connected lens.Together, they explore why Chinese medicine is not just acupuncture, herbs, or “energy work,” but a way of thinking. Dr. Barber explains how Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at the whole person, including sleep, digestion, emotions, stress, relationships, movement, pain patterns, and the way someone experiences life. He also breaks down how the word qi became simplified into “energy,” why that translation can be misleading, and why Chinese medicine is often more practical, physiological, and science-informed than many people realize.Dr. Barber shares his own path into Chinese medicine after working in IT, living through 9/11 in New York City, and experiencing chronic health issues that conventional care did not resolve. After trying acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and dietary changes, he saw a major improvement in his recurring sinus issues and began to understand health through a completely different framework. If you're listening to this and thinking, “My symptoms feel connected, but no one is helping me connect the dots,” join the Circle here:

DESPICABLE ME IS WAY SWEETER THAN EXPECTED?! Despicable Me Movie Reaction — First Time Watching! Support us on Patreon: Despicable Me Reaction (Full Length Watch Along): / thereelrejects Check out the DC Studios: Showcase Podcast HERE https://app.magellan.ai/listen_links/... John & Roxy react to Despicable Me for the first time as our classic animated movie reaction journey continues with the Illumination movie that launched Gru, the Minions, and one of the biggest animated franchises ever! With the new Minions & Monsters movie arriving later this year, it felt like the perfect time to finally dive into the film that started it all. This Despicable Me movie reaction follows Gru's plan to steal the moon, his rivalry with Vector, Dr. Nefario's wild inventions, the Bank of Evil, cookie robots, shrink rays, and the chaotic first appearance of the Minions. In this Illumination Despicable Me reaction and Despicable Me full movie review, John & Roxy break down Steve Carell's hilarious performance as Gru, Jason Segel as Vector, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Julie Andrews, Russell Brand, and the surprisingly emotional story of Margo, Edith, and Agnes changing Gru's heart. From “It's so fluffy!” to the unicorn book, Super Silly Fun Land, the moon heist, and the Despicable Me ending breakdown where Gru finally becomes a real dad, this movie ended up being way more charming, funny, and heartfelt than expected. It also serves as a great reminder of why audiences fell in love with Gru and the Minions before all the sequels, spin-offs, and upcoming adventures expanded the franchise. Professor Jonathan Miles' path to teaching organizational behavior at Rice Business is anything but conventional. Before entering academia, he earned a degree in computer science, worked in IT and even launched a comic book store — experiences that shaped his perspective on leadership, influence and human behavior.Today, Miles is known for challenging students to think differently about power, workplace dynamics and ethical decision-making. A co-adviser at the Virani Undergraduate School of Business and voted “Teacher of the Year” by our undergraduate business students, he has built courses that push both MBAs and undergraduates to confront uncomfortable truths about what it really takes to lead and succeed. In this episode, Miles joins host Maya Pomroy ‘22 to discuss why so many talented people struggle to advocate for themselves, what his comic book store taught him about entrepreneurship, and why influence is often misunderstood. He also shares his perspective on AI's growing impact on the workplace, the future of Rice Business and his hope for bringing undergrads and graduate students together in ways no business school has done before.Episode Guide:0:00 Introduction & Teacher of the Year Award2:29 Growing Up: Family, Influences, and Early Life4:40 The Winding Path: Journalism to Engineering to Computer Science7:40 The Value of Exploring Outside Your Major9:57 From IT to Teaching: Discovering a Calling15:56 Teaching Power & Influence at Rice17:55 The Biggest Misconception About Influence at Work22:15 Professionalism & Ethics: Why People Break Their Own Moral Frameworks25:04 AI in the Workplace: Hype, Risk, and the Road Ahead30:19 What Jon Hopes Students Take Away32:27 The Comic Book Store: Lessons in Entrepreneurship37:46 The Future of Rice Business & the New Building40:50 Closing and ConclusionThe Owl Have You Know Podcast is a production of Rice Business and is produced by University FM.Episode Quotes:Why hard work alone won't get you promoted20:24: I find it interesting that, in the eight years I've been teaching it here at Rice, I don't think I've ever had a class where the majority of people in the class, when I talk about the things that hold them back from power, won't raise their hands and say, "Yeah, at least one of those affects me." And, you know, things like—we call it the just world hypothesis—the idea of like, oh, well, you know, merit exists, and if I do a really good job, I will rise in the organization because people will notice. And we talk about the fact that our research is pretty clear that that's not true. We have years of research on this that says your boss doesn't have any idea what you do, and your boss's boss certainly doesn't. And so this idea of you have to advocate for yourself, even though it doesn't feel great to you. Leaders vs. bad managers36:09: What I told my students is, "I'm not here to make you into great leaders. Some of you will be great leaders because you have that natural piece, and I'm going to teach you this, and if you follow and do this information, you'll become a great leader. But I guarantee you, if you just follow what I say, you won't be a bad manager. You won't be a bad leader." And I've had enough bad leaders over the years that my crusade is to get rid of them, to try and, try and teach people so that we don't have them. And I'm hoping that the people who come out of here with Rice MBAs, and even our Rice undergrad degrees, have the understanding of how to be a manager that does the right things. What Jonathan hopes for the future of Rice Business45:19: I hope that we can maintain doing that because we could provide our undergrads with a tremendous ability to get a great education, and one that they're not going to get in an undergrad program elsewhere, from people who really know what they're talking about and are good at teaching it.Show Links: TranscriptGuest Profile:Jonathan Miles | Rice BusinessJonathan Miles | LinkedIn
From IT's view, enabling the workplace means ending the chaos of disjointed apps as well as siloed technologies and work environments. This workplace complexity breeds fragmentation spikes where teams juggle chat, docs, and tickets while workflows stall. One of the CIO's critical missions in 2026 should be to restore flow: a unified system where conversations trigger actions, not more tabs. We need platforms that reduce IT firefighting by embedding knowledge, automation, and follow-through into collaboration itself. When work moves seamlessly from talk to completion, only then can we finally stop maintaining tools and start enabling outcomes. This is the Resolution Economy – an economic model that focuses on guaranteed outcomes, reduced fragmentation and systemic resolution beyond experience. For the IT department, the resolution economy means fewer alerts, smoother integrations, and a digital workplace that works as one.Joining us on PodChats for FutureCIO is Carlos Quaderi, head of Asia, Zoom. He will share his perspective on the technologies and workflows for enabling workplace and collaboration for distributed IT teams.Questions1. How do we measure ROI when collaboration platforms evolve from communication hubs to operational “systems of action”?2. With AI agents joining workflows, how do we govern data privacy across ASEAN's varying regulations?3. Can our current stack reduce fragmentation without forcing yet another new tool on employees?4. What metrics truly indicate workflow completion velocity, not just user activity?5. How should we rethink vendor lock-in when a single platform begins controlling both conversation and execution?6. Will hyperlocal infrastructure (e.g., Indonesia's data sovereignty laws) limit seamless cross-border collaboration?7. How do we balance frontline worker needs with knowledge workers in one integrated platform?8. What new security boundaries are needed when AI “follow-through” pulls data across previously siloed systems?
Michael Smerconish reacts to a provocative Axios piece arguing that America is becoming a modern “Sin Nation” — where gambling, marijuana, pornography, and digital vice are no longer hidden, but legalized, monetized, and normalized. From “It's a Wonderful Life” and Robert Putnam's "Bowling Alone" to declining faith, patriotism, and community involvement, Michael explores whether America is losing the social glue that once held it together — and whether technology, capitalism, and politics accelerated the shift. Listeners weigh in on everything from Vegas culture and junk food to loneliness, digital life, and the erosion of real-world relationships. Original air date 12 May 2026. In this episode, we welcome back Max Henchel, Technical Consultant at Microsoft, to dive deep into the topic of telemetry. We previously discussed Dual-write, but realized we needed to go back to basics to explain the telemetry infrastructure and how to actually start measuring performance in a smart way. Max is one of the primary drivers behind the ISM Telemetry Model, a framework that simplifies working with Application Insights for Dynamics users. In this episode, we discuss: Why isn't out-of-the-box telemetry enough? How the ISM model acts as a "wrapper" to make it easier for partners and customers to get started without drowning in data. The importance of custom emission points: Why you can't just "flip a switch," but actually need to design your telemetry to understand critical business processes like order flows and batch jobs. Cost vs. Benefit: Strategies for data storage and how to keep costs down in Azure by focusing on short-term analysis (e.g., 30-day retention). From "It's slow" to hard facts: How to use telemetry to address subjective experiences of performance with actual data and system "heartbeats". Exception logging: How to find the notorious "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error using call stacks directly in App Insights, without needing to copy production databases for debugging. Cross-Enterprise Monitoring: Using a single Application Insights repository to track an end-to-end chain across different applications like AIS or Power Platform. Three tips to get started: Set it up now: It takes less than an hour to get basic telemetry in place. Use FastTrack reports: Leverage ready-made dashboards to get immediate visualization. Learn Kusto (KQL): Max recommends the Kusto Detective Agency for a fun, interactive way to learn how to query your data.

What happens when a service design professional does their job well...Usually? Absolutely nothing. No organizational gears grind. No customers complain. No one panics. You did your job, so the disaster simply stayed in your head instead of becoming a reality. That's the curse, though. No one's going to congratulate you for a crisis they didn't have to experience.I sat down with Jin Wan and Chad Cheverier for the this episode of Inside Service Design to talk about this "great enabler" trap.To make things practical, Jin had a great example about redesigning an onboarding journey. His biggest win wasn't a shiny new interface. It was moving a step in the verification process to the backend so nobody had to intervene manually. It saved the company (and customers) countless hours, but the solution itself is completely unseen.Chad mentioned a similar struggle. Looking at his quarterly review and realizing he doesn't have many "shiny" deliverables to show. His best work was aligning teams and coaching PMs to do their jobs better, which doesn't look like a "deliverable".So, how do you stay motivated when your best work is invisible and goes unnoticed? And more importantly, how do you sell the value of that work to the people holding the budget? We unpack all of that in this episode. If you had to make an estimate, how much of the work you do is "invisible"? Send me a quick reply and let me know.Be well,~ Marc--- [ 1. Artificial Intelligence is moving from experimentation to everyday business reality. But most organisations still struggle with one key question: How do you actually implement AI across a company? In this episode of Beginner's Guide to AI, Dietmar Fischer speaks with Jim Spagnardo, enterprise AI strategist at ProArch, about what it really takes to roll out AI inside organisations.Jim explains why AI adoption is less about technology and more about culture, leadership, and data readiness. He introduces the idea of the three Ds of work — the dull, the draining, and the distracting tasks that AI can remove so people can focus on higher-value work. They also discuss when companies should use tools like Microsoft Copilot, when it makes sense to build a custom data and AI platform, and why data governance becomes critical once AI is introduced. If you are a business leader trying to understand how AI will reshape your organisation, this conversation offers a practical look at the challenges — and opportunities — ahead.

From IT analyst to vegan ice cream entrepreneur—my twenty-year journey as a vegan has culminated in the creation of Houston's most unique frozen treat experience. When my favorite vegan ice cream shop in Austin closed its doors, I didn't just lament the loss of great desserts; I recognized an opportunity to fill a void in the market while staying true to my values.Drawing on analytical skills honed through years in information technology, I approached building my business with methodical precision. Rather than becoming overwhelmed by the enormity of entrepreneurship, I broke the process down into small, achievable goals—a technique borrowed from agile project management. This step-by-step approach allowed me to transform a vision board dream into a tangible business serving thousands of customers. What makes our venture special is both the product and the philosophy behind it. We've created what may be the first ice cream truck that actually makes the ice cream on-site, offering fresh, 100% vegan frozen treats that never compromise on taste or ethics. Operating as a solo entrepreneur has its challenges, but it's allowed me to maintain complete control over quality and values. The business represents a perfect alignment of personal passion with professional ambition—proof that ethical entrepreneurship can thrive when approached with patience, planning, and purpose. Join me on this journey as I document the growth of this vegan ice cream concept from local favorite to what I hope will become a worldwide brand.Have you visited us in Katy yet?
