You can never say, “I love you” enough to your partner. They are the 3 magic words of love. Yet, there are three other words you may also want to say more often to help forge a closer and stronger bond. Listen as I reveal what those three words are. https://truetowords.blogspot.com/2010/02/i-me-us-we-little-words-big-impact.html It feels good to help someone in need. However, it can feel really uncomfortable if you are the one asking for the help. However, it doesn't need to be difficult, according to Heidi Grant, author of the book, Reinforcements: How to Get People to Help You (https://amzn.to/2MRA4Ep). She has some great advice that explains how to ask and who to ask that will make it easier to make the request and make it much more likely that people will say yes. Listen and learn to become a much better asker when you really need help. Everyone has lucky moments in life. However, it is what you do with your luck when it strikes that determines how lucky you really are. That's according to Christian Busch, PhD, Director of the Global Economy Program at New York University's Center for Global Affairs and author of the book, The Serendipity Mindset: The Art and Science of Creating Good Luck (https://amzn.to/30VClYu). Do you believe that some people are just luckier than others even though they have not done anything special to create their good fortune? According to my guest this week, NYU Professor Christian Busch, good luck doesn't happen purely by chance. He says it can be learned and leveraged. In his book, The Serendipity Mindset: The Art and Science of Creating Good Luck, Christian explains that serendipity isn't about luck being out of our control. It's about seeing links that others don't, combining these observations strategically, and learning how to detect the moments when unconnected ideas merge to form new opportunities. Exploring serendipity from a scientific perspective, Christian argues that there are ways we can foster the conditions to allow serendipity to grow. Drawing from biology, chemistry, management, and information systems and using examples of people from all walks of life, he shows how you can use serendipity to make life better at work, at home, and everywhere. It is remarkable to note that Christian's early track record could not have predicted where he has landed today. In his own words, he was a restless, rebellious kid who was “in the 5% of the class that enabled the top 95%.” He dropped out of high school and, at eighteen, went wild in his first car, ending up in a near-fatal multi-car crash. Needless to say, and fortunately, this was a turning point for him. Christian finished high school and with determination applied to dozens of universities. Once accepted, he dove into his studies, fueling his curious mind. Christian went on to earn his master's degree and later a Ph.D. In this week's Work From The Inside Out podcast, follow Christian's journey and work: Christian is the director of the CGA Global Economy Program at New York University (NYU) and teaches at the London School of Economics (LSE). He is a co-founder of Leaders on Purpose and the Sandbox Network and a former director of LSE's Innovation Lab. Serendpidity Man. What a gift that is in this thing called life. Everyday there are these beautiful serendipitous moments that are hitting us like rain drops & we miss them as we're head down in the screen hustling harder. If you're looking to capture more of these beautiful life moments & create more good luck in your life, grab them earbuds, my friend because you are in the right place. This episode of #shareyourstory features the godfather of serendipity, Dr. Christian Busch. I first came across his book, Connect The Dots, and was salivating on the way he described serendipity & how we can rise up off our screens to lean into it. Dr Christian Busch is the bestselling author of Connect the Dots: The Art & Science of Creating Good Luck, which has been highlighted as a "wise, exciting, and life-changing book" (Arianna Huffington) that offers "excellent practical guidance for all" (Paul Polman, former CEO, Unilever). In this conversation, you'll hear us unpack: How to create more good luck in our busy worlds & busy days How to release control & the gifts that come through it (for all my control freaks out there, this one is for you)Dr. Christian Busch Books:Connect The Dots: https://www.amazon.com/Connect-Dots-Science-Creating-Good-ebook/dp/B09QBWSPLRSerendipity Mindset: www.theserendipitymindset.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drchristianbusch/?hl=enJoin Our Social Tribe:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/megan.b.miller/?hl=en LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/meganmillerintention
Is so-called “dumb luck” really so dumb? Or is it, in fact, the result of an invitation? As my guest on this episode of What the Fundraising explains, there's an art and science to this thing called “serendipity.” Christian Busch, author of "The Serendipity Mindset: The Art and Science of Creating Good Luck," is showing us how to cultivate the unexpected, with insights about why an abundant approach opens doors (and how staying small can literally cause us to miss good fortune right in our path). In addition to sharing fascinating research, Christian is also providing concrete strategies for shifting our luck – as fundraisers and humans. As he explains, incremental adjustments in the permission we give and the environment we create can make all the difference. And if you think luck somehow isn't credible because, well … it's just luck, Christian demonstrates the many ways that are not true. We can create an actionable road map to good fortune through flexible attitudes and frameworks. It serves no one to be overly attached to outcomes, says Christian, who highlights examples of organizations that have reaped the benefits of richer, more sustained connections. Make no mistake, says Christian, who also directs New York University's CGA Global Economy Program, “You can prepare for the unexpected by creating the foundations for it.” Transformational change starts with the decision to open up our worlds and missions to results we can't even imagine. We've all met those folks who seem to have horseshoes inserted in their rectums. Things just seem to work out for them. Do the Gods favor them, or could there be a science of luck? There's a reasonable assumption that talent, skill, mental toughness, hard work, tenacity, optimism, growth mindset, and emotional intelligence determine how we distribute resources. We tend to give resources to those who have a history of success and often ignore those who have been unsuccessful, assuming that the most successful are also the most competent. But is this assumption correct? In recent years, several studies and books, including those by risk analyst, Nassim Taleb, have suggested that luck and opportunity may play a far more significant role than we ever realized. Even if you don't believe in luck, you undoubtedly have had moments that seemed to have certain serendipity. I'm curious, have you ever considered that you may be able to manufacture that serendipity? Our guest for the next two episodes is Dr. Christian Busch. Dr Raj Persaud speaks with Dr Christian Busch about his book Connect the Dots: The Art and Science of Creating Good Luck. They discuss the concept of the serendipity mindset as part of a larger shift that is taking place in the cultures and values of some of the world's biggest corporations and their leaders, as well as its relevance to psychiatric treatment.
