Dani Stover is back on the show for a 3rd time and she discussed her experience with AM 640's "Let's Talk with Dani Stover," a non-live, pre-recorded radio show that curated content from across The Corus Radio Network. The show, which involved creating six to seven new segments daily, was well-received but faced challenges, including a shift in station direction and a negative climate during the pandemic. Sadly, Corus decided to end the show and part ways with Dani last month. Merry Christmas I guess. In this episode you will hear Dani express her mental shift from live radio to assembling a fully recorded show, and express her disdain for radio's reliance on text lines for audience engagement. (Can we stop this now?) She also criticized the use of AI and the negative impact of social media. Dani plans to continue writing on Substack and is considering a future podcast. Please sign up for the SOUNDING OFF Newsletter. We have more information on the ever-elusive Ontario Place redevelopment plan...and it includes a European company getting a 95-year lease on Ontario land! And the Science Centre is moving to make room for affordable housing, but nothing can be built in the ravine. But we do have an abundance of "Yellowbelt" land, and if we changed a few simple rules we can get to building! Listen along with host Dani Stover as she breaks down recent developments with the Ontario Place/Science Centre switcharoo, and what needs to change for more housing to be built on the Yellowbelt.
There are now 48 people running for mayor of Toronto and some of them don't seem to have their plans set just yet. Candidates like Mark Saunders, who has plenty of ambitious plans but can't explain how he would enact them. And Toronto has a housing and skilled labour shortage that is only getting worse. And more people are experiencing poverty due to still high cost of living. But one company is trying to address all these issues at once. Listen in as host Dani Stover dives into new platforms and announcements from the mayoral candidates, and also explains what Blue Door is and what it's doing to help make Toronto a better place.
After Ontario Place shut down, its grounds have been left semi-vacant since. The province wants to build a spa and Toronto mayoral candidates all promise to do something else with it. Dani Stover breaks down the issue at large, whos promising what, and if any have Toronto's best interest in mind.
In this 1233rd episode of Toronto Mike'd, Mike crashes the 640 Toronto party at the GLB Brewpub. After 16-year-old Gabrial Mageles was killed in yet another act of random violence on the TTC, people are demanding something be done to increase safety. And mayoral candidates, MPPs and even the Premier have come forward with ideas, but do they actually address the root issue? And now that we are out of the pandemic, the province is planning to eliminate a much-needed program as well as heavily reduce incentives for seniors. Follow along with host Dani Stover as she dives into what happened at Keele Station, why bail reform is part of the conversation, and why the province may need to start investing more in its most vulnerable citizens with healthcare and housing.
Only a few highways can get you into Toronto, and only the Gardiner gets you right to the core. Since it's so important, is it fair that Toronto foots the costly bill or should the province help out? And as the mayoral race draws closer, more candidates have thrown their hats in the ring. Dani Stover not only helps break down some of the new candidates, what some of them have planned for the Gardiner Expressway, and why it can make for an interesting election run for the city.
Toronto is stuck in a weird phase of awkward growth as we're still waiting to find out who will be our next mayor, let alone all the new condos going up and plans for expansion in-store. Follow along with Dani Stover as she explores the fears of residents in Corktown, and why one mayoral candidate is pushing for free public transit. And stories of real estate scams have become more common in the past few months. Dani Stover dives into how people's houses are being sold illegally from right under their noses...and who could be responsible.
The city is building thousands of new homes, and that means some older ones will have to be demolished. But could it be done sustainably while making a profit? Dani Stover speaks with Meredith Moore, the founder of Ouroboros Deconstruction about how demolition can be done sustainably, and what "deconstruction" is. And have you ever wondered why we have nicknames for our political parties? Dani Stover and Sabrina Nanji, a journalist and founder of Queen's Park Observer about why we call our Liberals "Grits", and Conservatives "Tories"
On this episode of Today in TO, host Dani Stover takes a look at some big changes the city has recently gone through, and some that are still to come. After Mayor John Tory announced that he would be resigning from office, it's become the talk of the town. Dani Stover takes a look back at the former Mayor's tenure, why he left office and what's next for TO. And the city has plans to make some major changes to Hanlan's Point. But some groups said the city left them out of the discussion, and fear they will be excluded. Dani speaks with Daniel Fusca, the manager of Toronto's Parks, Forestry and Recreation Public Engagement Team about why the City decided to take a step back and revisit the issue, what the proposed changes would be, and what's going to happen to TO's only nude beach.

The last time we had Dani Stover on the show, she was between opportunities and wondering what her relationship with radio should be shaped like. It turns out that she has answered that question and the answer is a new role in the evenings on 640 Toronto. Over the last while she has been producing alongside daytime host Kelly Cutrara and now Dani takes control of 7-10pm in the region on 640 Toronto, 900 CHML Hamilton and 980 CFPL in London. In this episode, Dani and I dive into what we expect to hear in the evenings in Toronto, why this position is the best one for her right now and what we can expect when she launches the new 640 Toronto Podcast in the coming weeks or months. We also dug into the silliness of social media and what constitutes the right amount of usage for her needs.Shoutout to Larry Gifford who is the lead of News/Talk content at Corus. Dani Stover has a wonderful studio with a beautiful sounding microphone and produces content for radio, and podcast. She's not the first unemployed creator to grace the podcast. Given the state of Canadian radio which is awaiting new regulations while dealing with the remnants of a pandemic economy, Dani is patiently testing the waters to rekindle her relationship with radio.I particular love this episode because Dani and I talk about the love affair we have with radio. Sometimes it's a mistress, sometimes it's a lover, sometimes it's your spouse... but now Dani is looking for a Sugar Daddy. You'll hear how one of her first job's in radio was working with the Dean Blundell show at the height of its popularity, what it was like on the show, and her time in Peterborough working with TJ Connors and Fred Patterson - both podcast alumni. We also talked about those Diva moments we all have; if you don't think you had any, it's because Dani has recognized hers. Dani also spoke about the limited roles in Canada right now for women, and what her future holds whether she stays in Toronto or moves to Los Angeles. We also spoke about her efforts with BlogTO and what it takes to create a daily podcast. (It takes an awful lot) and her time at Indie 88. If you are looking for someone to complete the role of on air personality and content creator for your station - you can reach Dani here. dgstoves@gmail.comWe also talked extensively about The Period PursePlease support our sponsors who make this show possible every week:Thanks also to the people who make this show possible every week including:PromosuiteJustin Dove at Core Image StudiosMegatrax

People will tell you that the only way to ever make it in radio is to go to radio school, then get a job somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and work your way back out to civilization. People tell you that because 99% of the time, it is the best way to start a career. But every now and again, the right opportunity can come along, and fast track things a bit.
