On today’s episode, AmpMyContent founder Daniel Daines-Hutt discusses web traffic and conversion. Daniel is an industry expert who has discovered how to drive tons of traffic to his posts time and again. He enjoys the highest ROIs and opt-in rates in the industry, making a lot of money in the process. He not only knows what he’s talking about, but he also practices what he preaches. Getting Back to Content Marketing Basics There are a variety of ways to drive traffic to your website. Yet, it’s important not to neglect the foundation of online marketing: great content. “Google is always trying to get people back to the fundamentals because they have a core system that they use,” Daniel says. “They want good content.” With an 83% opt-in rate, Daniel seems to be onto something. Add more keywords, insert definitive calls to action and consistently promote valuable posts. Magical things start happening when you do. The Future of Content Marketing and SEO While quality content is crucial, you shouldn't ignore other channels of promotion altogether. Invest in Google Ads and build links to get the most out of your asset. Daniel relates, “A really easy way to get a backlink is on a resource page. So if someone says, ‘here’s the best articles about paid ads.' Then you have an article about that and you tell them...it’s a good article and they check it out, there’s a really high chance that they’ll put it on there.” Video’s Effect on Content Marketing Daniel acknowledges that video has become a huge venue, and it can be worth utilizing. Even so, it’s not something everyone should feel pressured to master. If you can create quality videos to complement your content, then great. Put it in your content and be sure you are doing good video SEO. But don’t get so pressured to produce video that your content begins to suffer. “If you’re trying to do too many things, then you won’t go deep enough in any of them,” he warns. Perfect Your Craft and Your Strategy Daniel is a believer in working smart. “Going out and promoting content that doesn’t convert doesn’t make sense. So improve the content first.” Once you’ve perfected the content, start using all the different channels together to increase traffic. After that, patience is a virtue. Daniel offers this advice: “You have to treat content marketing like farming. On today’s episode I’m chatting with Daniel Danies Hutt, a self-confessed “marketing nerd” who’s originally from England and now living in New Zealand. I’m so excited to bringing this conversation with you, and as you’ll hear, I took down a ton of notes from it during our discussion. Daniel has a ton of amazing online marketing strategies to share here with us, as he’s someone who does the work upfront to set himself up for success. Daniel got a unique start in entrepreneurship when he created a clothing company overnight. Within 5 weeks he was selling his products in 5 retail stores, and you’re going to learn a very cool Facebook ads strategy that he used to have those 5 stores calling him and asking how they could sell his product. Things went so well that people started asking him to do marketing for them, including paid ads and content writing, and Daniel and his partner now have two blogs, Inbound Ascension and Amp My Content. In this episode we look at how Daniel has been driving cold traffic to his content and generating $22 for every dollar spent on ads, and why he is using the conversions objective inside Facebook Ads Manager. He also reveals the feedback loop he’s using to tell how much money he can be spending per lead, and the importance of working with the Facebook algorithm, and not against it. Daniel explains how his paid ads are benefiting his organic content, and why he feels that his content is converting so well. Daniel Daines-Hutt essentially became an entrepreneur because he didn’t want to move. This turned out to be a wise and profitable decision as Daniel explains in this episode of Today’s Business Leaders. From designing t-shirts to mastering content creation strategies, Daniel has had an educational and unexpected journey. Finding His Way Daniel is from England but ended up spending a working holiday in New Zealand. He wanted to stay in New Zealand, but due to visa issues, he was going to have to leave. When he discovered that he could stay on if he became an entrepreneur, Daniel formulated a plan. Daniel’s first business was designing and selling t-shirts. His online marketing efforts proved highly effective, and the business grew to the point that Daniel and his partner were having trouble keeping up. Finding a Better Way People began to notice just how effective Daniel’s marketing strategies were, so requests for help poured in. Daniel took this opportunity to change things up. He sold the t-shirt business and began helping people promote their businesses through content marketing. He maintains two blogs. One focuses on content promotion and writing and the second addresses re-targeting. Learning by Doing “I’ve made a lot of mistakes,” explains Daniel, “and that’s how I’ve learned the smart things.” Through continued work and effort, it is possible to figure out how to create content or do whatever you set out to do. Once you have this knowledge, you can replicate the process and quickly and easily do what needs to happen going forward. Balancing Act Daniel thinks it is necessary to measure praise and criticism about the same. Listening to too much of either can throw you off course. It’s also important to find people worth following and pay attention to who you're letting influence you. Pick and choose who you look to for inspiration.
