Imagine you're at a local networking event, your hand extended, ready to exchange business cards. But instead of a trade, you give your card away without expecting one in return. Strange? Maybe. But according to my recent guest, this simple act of generosity could be the golden key to unlocking unprecedented business growth and genuine relationships. That's what we're delving into today on More Perfect Marketing; it's not about transaction, it's about transformation. In the business world, we often get caught up in the numbers game—leads, conversions, and the bottom line. However, my conversation with Josh Elledge turned that notion on its head. He revealed that the most impactful leaders are those who approach each interaction with an open heart, ready to give without the immediate expectation of receiving. In a landscape brimming with overt sales pitches and insincere networking, Josh's approach refreshes like a cool breeze on a sweltering summer day. We live in an era where connection is currency, but Josh emphasizes that it's the quality, not quantity, of these connections that truly matters. By creating relationships beyond mere transactions, we pave the way for collaborative growth and success. And let's be real, who doesn't want to be that person in someone else's corner—offering insights, connections, and even friendship? Josh's strategy involves a discerning approach to relationships, choosing to invest time where it's most likely to flourish into partnerships that are more than just transactional. But don't be fooled, while it sounds altruistic, and it is, there's a strategic side to this method. By aligning ourselves with key people and offering value upfront, we lay the groundwork for a network that's more akin to a supportive community than a fickle fan base. Josh Elledge is a U.S. Navy veteran and launched UpMyInfluence.com to help entrepreneurs grow their authority and influence. UpMyInfluence builds 7-figure B2B sales systems with zero paid ads. He also started SavingsAngel.com which has grossed more than $6 million in sales with zero paid ads. Josh is a keynote speaker, writes a syndicated newspaper column to 1.1 million readers, and regularly appears on more than 75 TV stations across the country. All told, Josh has appeared in the media more than 2000 times. Links Mentioned: Josh Elledge's Website: https://upmyinfluence.com/ "The Go-Giver" by Bob Burg: https://amzn.to/3U0LAlB

In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks with the Founder and Owner of https://goalstoresults.com/ (Goals To Results), Dennis Riley. Dennis Riley is a business strategist that helps small business owners get efficient results by looking into data strategy systems. Dennis explains that a common issue is data not being in one place for business owners. If the data is scattered, it makes it harder to compile and more complex to refer back to when looking for results. Dennis explains that he creates a data dashboard for his clients to refer to for all of their business data to see what is working and what is not. This dashboard helps small business owners determine the problems and fix them faster than if they individually looked into every data platform. Dennis explains that he makes use of Google tools with his clients due to its ease of use. Many small business owners may not be well versed in creating a data dashboard for themselves, this is where Dennis comes in to help. Once the client has logged into all of their data platforms, Dennis will pull the necessary data and make them a dashboard that integrates it all in one place. Dennis explains that data is not the start and finish line for obtaining desired results for a business. Different aspects of the business also need to be managed such as time to ensure that time is being allotted to the correct things and making sure the less important actions are being outsourced. Dennis explains that he works with a multitude of business owners from chiropractors to graphic designers and anyone that believes they need a second pair of eyes regarding their business should look into his work. Engagement with Dennis starts with data collection, client journeys, follow-ups, and many more aspects to find where the issues are. Dennis explains that intuition can take an individual to a certain point but from there data can be used to take them further. Key Points from the Episode: Dennis's impact in the world Areas that commonly need the most improvement in a business Google tools Results don't end with data collection Dennis's clientele Engagement with Dennis Intuition About Dennis Riley: Dennis is not your typical business strategist or business coach. He will roll his sleeves up and help business owners develop different strategies and systems. He will collect data and generate data dashboards for owners to see their KPIs. He builds systems that others don't see. He always highlights his client's uniqueness and uses it to separate them from their competition. He thinks outside the box when solving a problem. In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks with the Founder of https://www.jasminejonte.com/ (Jasmine Jonte Coaching and Consulting), Jasmine Jonte. Jasmine explains that microlearning is a very important way of taking in information today. In the age of Tiktok and Youtube shorts, there is not as much of a market for long content. The majority of audiences gravitate towards shorter content that is between five to fifteen minutes. Having a content library can be important to any creator as you can answer any questions one time and have it there to be referred to by any prospective client or viewer. Jasmine explains that in-person features, time management, and private podcasts are doing well in the market of content creation. Taking steps such as adding in-person aspects to offers, having features that are done for an individual to save time, or converting your course into a podcast are all ways to take part in these market trends. The platform a business should work with for their courses or content depends on what they are needing to grow their company. If they already have sources for websites, media, or email, there is no need for an expensive robust service. Picking a platform is also important based on the community a business serves. The target may be the older generations which would make Facebook the best option, or it could be tech-savvy millennials who use Slack predominantly. Jasmine explains that being informative about what you are teaching within each course lesson is important to give the audience an idea of what is going on. Jasmine Jonte Coaching and Consulting is a done-for-you course creation agency that helps its clients organize information for their courses by listening to them to ultimately create the course content. In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks with the Chief Learning Officer of https://www.qlik.com/us/ (Qlik), Kevin Hanegan. Qlik is a data and analytic company that helps clients make better business decisions based on the data collected. Qlik was developed when analytics started becoming popular in the 90's and there was a need for change from static data to real time data. There are typically three avenues businesses can take in regards to data usage, they are either using data correctly, using data incorrectly, or not using data at all and using intuition. Kevin explains that using intuition is not bad to use to make decisions, however, there needs to be a balance of intuition and data in a business. There can be unconscious bias while collecting data and that is not how data needs to be used. Kevin advises using methods such as the scientific method works well as you can test data to try to disprove it. However, if it cannot be disproved, it shows that it may be a valid source for business usage. Kevin explains that there is a culture within the workplace where challenging an opinion is not encouraged. This could be a downside because mistakes or new ideas could be found by challenging an opinion, ultimately leading to better business decisions. Kevin explains the ideal client for Qlik is anyone trying to make more sense of their data. Key Points from the Episode: What Qlik is Kevin's backstory Where Qlik came from Companies using data Kevin's advice on data usage Challenge culture Kevin's book recommendations The ideal client for Qlik About Kevin Hanegan: Kevin Hanegan is a senior leader who likes to transform, innovate, and continuously improve organizations to make them the best they can be. In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks with Author of https://beyondbook.co/ (Beyond the Pale), http://turndog.co/ (Matthew Turner). Matthew Turner's latest book Beyond the Pale is a fable that follows the main character Ferdinand Foy on his entrepreneurial and personal growth journey. Matthew explains there is a toxic nature behind hustle culture such as the message gurus send that if you are not working, you are failing. While social media is a good thing, it also has negative effects such as comparing the journey of one person to another while their paths are completely different. It causes insecurity or doubt that could lead to listening to gurus and overworking oneself. It takes the form of a negative feedback loop where if you are failing, you work harder until you reap the negative effects of it. Matthew explains that hustle culture can negatively affect the mind, body, and soul causing physical burnout, mental decline, and drainage of the soul. While there are negative effects to hustle culture, there are instances where you will have to work more based on the circumstances if the hustle is a means to an end. Matthew explains that there needs to be a deadline to it so it does not spiral out of control causing the consequences of the culture. Working harder is not the only way to achieve success. Matthew explains practices such as working smarter, reevaluating cost, changing business models or overcoming adversity can be better at achieving success compared to being sucked into hustle culture. Key Points from the Episode: What Beyond the Pale is about Hustle culture How the negative effects of hustle culture affect the mind, body, and soul A personal story of how Matthew avoided being dragged into the culture of hustle Other avenues to achieve success that isn't working harder About Matthew Turner: Matthew Turner (aka: Turndog), is a Storytelling fiend who enjoys a rich cup of black coffee. First and foremost, he is a father, and everything he does is dedicated to his blossoming family. This is what motivates him, so when he talks about WHO he is, it's important to focus on this before everything else. Beyond that, he is a writer. In his eyes, everything is a story. We trust stories. As a species we've evolved the way we have because of stories. We feel them… deeply. This is his gift to the world. The topics may change and the books may differ, but storytelling remains his constant throughout. Want to learn more?
