Ah, the haunting season seems to arrive earlier every year, and what better way to avoid the hustle and bustle of shoppers laden with absinthe, last minute pumpkins and Tripe Trifle™ than to join the hosts of The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour as they lean into the dark nights with some terrifying television? This year's Hallowe'en special is a callback to the podcast's formative roots, as Murder She Wrote's Night Of The Tarantula comes under supernatural scrutiny. Leaving the good folk of Cabot Cove to manage without her for a few days, Jessica Fletcher takes a jaunt down to Jamaica to visit an old friend. But while she's packed the sort of wardrobe that could be used as an Ishihara test, it soon becomes apparent that Jess has forgotten to bring the spider-repellent. And the snake-repellent. Oh, and zombie-repellent… How many glasses of wine can you get out of a bottle from the duty free at Sangster International airport? How many different accents can you crowbar into a single mansion lived in by one family? And how many lines in the sand has Danny La Rue crossed for Angela Lansbury to dish out this sort of theatrical vitriol? Press Play before Arnold races out of the door, and find out… The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour is a free podcast from iPorle Media, which holds production copyright. At 17 she won Talentville USA, a nationwide talent contest sponsored by Coca Cola - the equivalent today to America's/Britain's Got Talent - culminating in finals in New York, but she chose instead to go to Indiana University to study for a degree in music before joining the Metropolitan Opera National Company and subsequently touring all over the United States and Canada. However, her love for Musical Theatre totally overwhelmed that of her love for opera…and a very happy career in musicals has followed. She arrived in London in 1971 to star as Magnolia in SHOW BOAT with Dame Cleo Laine at the Adelphi Theatre - the show was such a smash-hit that it ran for a then-record 2 years and 3 months. The production was recorded and presented on the Tony Awards as the best International production of that season. Lorna fell in love with London, staying in the UK to star in many musicals (SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM, HELLO DOLLY! (with Danny La Rue), and THE KING AND I among them), the European premiere of CLOSER THAN EVER, SEVEN DEADLY SINS in Monaco's Princes Grace Theatre, concerts in all the major London venues (Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Palladium, Theatre Royal Drury Lane) and worldwide with the major symphony orchestras with conductors Skitch Henderson and Don Pippin (Carnegie Hall, New York Town Hall, Brisbane Cultural Center, Napa Valley Opera House), the Hong Kong Arts Festival, extensive television appearances including The Royal Variety Performance and her own highly rated BBC series, MY SERENADE and LORNA DALLAS. . .MY MUSICAL WORLD. http://WWW.LORNADALLAS.COM

With Britpop in its pomp and Cool Britannia ringing out across the airwaves, its only natural we talk about Dolly the Sheep, the distribution of yet more condoms at the Olympics and Arthur Fowler chucking it in with Eastenders. If that doesn't float your retro lifeboat, we've got Brian Epstein wronged, Nazis on the Moon and Danny La Rue caught in a bad mood. Once again, satire, humour and comedy genius are fairly absent but it's another fun episode taking a nostalgic journey through the past in The Rotten Retro Time Machine. RICK KENT joins me in The Engine Room to discuss his musical journey which began in Adelaide during the 60s Rock 'N' Roll days with The Firebirds who became The Vibrants. The Vibrants moved to Melbourne in 1966, and had several charting hits, "Something About You, Baby", "My Prayer", "Don't Let Your Left Hand Know", and "How Sweet It Is". After leaving the band Rick went on to run his own music schools in Perth, The Perth Jingle Workshop. He then lived in England for two years, and joined popular London band "The Basic Truth". The highlight of his time in England was a world tour with The Osmond Bros, which culminated in a concert at Madison Square Gardens in New York. Rick returned to Australia in the mid seventies and became involved in the recording side of music, setting up a studio in Adelaide with mobile recording facilities, while playing in a band six nights a week. Some of the artists he recorded during this period were Christie Allen and Men at Work. Rick also did ads for radio and TV, and film scores for the South Australian Film Corp. He then spent 2 years with the Channel 9 Band, Brisbane, on the popular "Conway Country" in the early 80's. During this time he also worked major Leagues Clubs and RSL's on the Gold Coast with various other bands. By the middle of the eighties and through most of the nineties, Rick was located in the Byron Bay area, where he taught drums, both privately and in local schools, played with various bands from the area, and worked on several recording projects in different studios, including Big Toe, Music Farm, Star Sound, Ch9, and Suite 16. In today’s episode I am speaking to Candy Warhol. Born and raised in Cork, Candy has been one of Ireland's leading drag acts for a decade and is a descendant of Irish drag royalty Danny La Rue. Making her mark in the UK, Candy is currently the host of Dragony Aunts - The Series and Dragony Aunts - The Podcast, both on Comedy Central UK. She is also the host and producer of Friends Of Dorothy podcast which is currently climbing the charts worldwide and boasts a glittering lineup that includes Rose McGowan, Sandra Bernhard, The Veronicas and the an array of Drag Race winners. In 2019 Candy was selected by the Irish embassy in Poland to lead a parade of 50,000 at Warsaw Pride and later appeared in Vogue Poland. Candy and I had the most wonderful, moving and insightful conversation about what it was like for her growing up in Ireland struggling with her sexuality, school and family expectations, who had rarely been exposed to the struggles Candy was having to try and overcome and navigate. An incredible story of overcoming adversity and coming out the other side stronger, and full of love and understanding for those who were part of that very struggle. We love you, Candy. Born in Cork in 1927, La Rue - real name Daniel Patrick Carroll - paved the way for later drag performers, even receiving an OBE for his work in the entertainment industry. A pre-decriminalisation gay celebrity of Irish stock, it is a fitting weekend for Donal Fallon to look back at one of Ireland - and Britain’s - most beloved entertainers.
