Liverpool kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 3-1 win over Preston North End on Sunday. Amid emotional scenes at Deepdale, the Reds contested their first fixture since the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. And both clubs paid classy tributes to the Portuguese before and after the game. But there was also plenty to admire about events on the pitch, with Arne Slot's side putting in a strong performance across the 90 minutes. Here, Reds reporter David Lynch dives into that, highlight Rio Ngumoha and the work of the full-backs as key to the win. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Well, that's a record anyway - the longest penalty shootout in English domestic football history, and of course Fulham ended up on the wrong side of it. After a frustrating 90 minutes of action against Preston North End at Deepdale, Fulham's heavily rotated XI weren't able to find a winner, and thus ensued one of the most typical stories you could imagine. We take a look back at the game as a whole, examining the performances of a number of players for better and for worse - Ryan Sessegnon, Reiss Nelson, Rodrigo Muniz, Tom Cairney, Harrison Reed, Sander Berge, Issa Diop, Jorge Cuenca and Steven Benda - before touching on the penalty shootout that dominated the headlines this morning for good measure. Then we head onwards to Newcastle at the Cottage this weekend - traditionally a game we always struggle in - and take a look at what changes Marco could make, and how we can win the individual battles against a Magpies side that haven't been playing brilliantly, but keep finding results nonetheless. There's a quick email to address leadership in this group, before we finish with a special This'll Catch On written specifically about the Drama at Deepdale last night. Fulham are through to Round 3 of the Carabao Cup, where it's been revealed that a trip to Deepdale awaits Marco Silva's Whites. Goals from Raul Jimenez and Jay Stansfield, who struck against the club he was on loan at last season, saw Fulham into the hat for the next round; but the performance left some things to be desired. We also briefly look at Fulham's win over Leicester in the Premier League at the weekend, before looking onwards to Saturday's trip to Portman Road. Whilst it's a game we can't wait for in terms of fan experience, it's also a potentially tricky game - as it's the Tractor Boys first real winnable fixture of the season, and they'll be bang up for it in Suffolk. Finally, we take a look through your emails, discussing some of our West London rivals, a potential new signing in Ernest Nuamah from Lyon, and some other bits and bobs, before we wrap things up.
