Detouring from “The Seven Deadly Sins” saga to discuss the history and nature of this day. “Devil's Lettuce” is a colloquial term for marijuana, originating from when paranoia and fear about cannabis consumption was high (so to speak) and many of the nicknames that came about had their roots in vilifying particular groups of people. Hope you've got snacks and a drink because today's discussion covers a lot of material class! Today we're covering what makes a hero. It starts off slow but no one starts a pro! Starting off we discuss starting points and how some people have more or different things to work on. From there we lightly dip into everyone's favorite topic powers but discuss the implications of unsettling ones. Detouring through rivalry, attitude, bearing, and how peoples impressions change over time we then dive back into powers with some side distractions, I mean discussions, before doing an analysis of Classes 1A and 1B focused on the less popular powers. Finally touching on Costumes, Villains, and the hot topic of BEST Girl. This episode contains only material from the anime up to and including season 5. I know I say this a lot but this was a ripper. HE is a ripper. Such and interesting and relevant-for-so-many conversation. David Gillespie is a lawyer and the best-selling author of Sweet Poison, a book published in 2008 about how we are all poisoning ourselves with sugar, generally credited with starting the current wave of sugar awareness in Australia. He followed Sweet Poison up with 4 more books about nutrition and diet. Then, having upset the dietetics industry by writing about stuff in which he has no qualifications, he turned his focus to something else he is unqualified to write about, education with his book Free Schools. Detouring briefly back to nutrition in his 7th and 8th books (Eat Real food, 2015 and the Eat Real Food Cookbook 2016), his next target was Psychology with a book about surviving contact with psychopaths in the workplace and at home. His most recent work called Brain Reset explores the challenge of breaking the cycle of anxiety, depression, stress and addiction and restoring mental calm and stability. What do you do when you're not asleep and when you're not eating? You're most likely waiting--to finish work, to get home, or maybe even to be seen by your doctor. Hold On is less about how to manage all that staying where one is until a particular time or event (OED) than it is about describing how we experience waiting. Waiting can embrace things like hesitation and curiosity, dithering and procrastination, hunting and being hunted, fearing and being feared, dread and illness, courting and parenting, anticipation and excitement, curiosity, listening to and even performing music, being religious, being happy or unhappy, being bored and being boring. They're all explored here. Waiting is also characterized by brain chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine. They can radically alter the way we register the passing of time. Waiting is also the experience that may characterize most interpersonal relations--mismanage it at your own risk. Hold On: The Life, Science, and Art of Waiting (Oxford UP, 2020) contains advice on how to cope with waiting-how to live better-but its main aim is to show how important the experience of waiting is, in popular and highbrow culture, and, sometimes, in history. Detouring into psychology, neurology, ethology, philosophy, film, literature, and especially art, Peter Toohey's illuminates in unexpected ways one of the most common of human experiences. After reading his book, you'll never wait the same way again. Reyes Bertolin is a professor of Classics at the University of Calgary. Learn more about your ad choices. Today, we continue the conversation with one of the world’s biggest superstars that many outside of China have never heard of. Part of me thinks she might like the fact that she isn’t recognized by people, as her humility oozes from her media presence. Australian-born Heidi Dugan had a quick stint in Japan in her 20s that changed her life. Detouring through China, she first landed in Wuhan and was transported by the culture. Eventually marrying her Kung Fu teacher (as you do), now speaking fluent Mandarin, and becoming the first foreigner to appear as the host of a TV show, called “You are the Chef”. Appearing on Chinese TV for the past 17yrs means that many millions of people grew up watching her. She now has two children and three companies, has written 2 cookbooks, consults to Fortune500 companies on the Chinese marketplace, is Managing Director for a trading company, and somehow finds time to be given the first ever foreign permit to host a LIVE broadcast on ‘The Oriental Shopping Channel’ (seen by more than 70million ppl) where she is known to do millions of $$ of sales in 90mins!!How does this demure and graceful-looking Grace Kelly do it all?? Her story is so important as she remains agile in life and open to opportunities around her. She is definitely “in the game” of life and I want to talk to her about her daily wellness routine and how she manages to raise two incredible children amidst a big life. It’s stories like Heidi’s that reminds us all of what’s possible…Whether its an interview w Haarpers Bizarre or the Australian Financial Review, she always come across as herself – the real deal. These are the kind of people we love bringing into the light here on “In the Game Podcast”Thanks Heidi for taking being flexible and open to recording this a second time after zoom had a malfunction our first time around – this is like that great opportunity to ask all those things I’d wish I’d asked the first time around… Contact Heidi :Facebook: @heidi.dugan.cnWebsite: www.Heididugan.comLinkedIn: @heidi-duganInstagram : heidi_duganYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNqhpV1ZP_asfpMYQ2F40bgwechat : Heidi跟我学weibo : Heidi中洋生活Go to http://www.bit.ly/InTheGamePodcast to become part of this growing community of DREAMERS!

Tai left legal practice for the the world of non-profit leadership, and last year, opened her own consulting practice where she specializes in workplace culture and liberatory leadership.  In this conversation, Tai shares about: How growing up with a parent who was a lawyer affected her decision to go to law school; Believing that becoming a doctor or a lawyer was the best way to contribute to society; Detouring from her path to law school to teach with Teach For America because she wanted to make a difference; Loving teaching, but being afraid to love it because she thought she would regret not going to law school; Climbing the rungs of the ladder to a legal career without asking herself whether she actually wanted to be there; Well-meaning family and friends reacting much more positively to her decision to be a lawyer than her choice to teach for two years with TFA; Going to law school and getting a biglaw job because she thought that’s what she should do to achieve her goals; Quickly realizing that firm life was not for her, but not being willing to make a move right away; How the downturn in 2008 made her feel like she should just be happy to have a legal job; Knowing that legal practice wasn’t for her because her firm job was about as good as it could be, and she still wasn’t happy; Realizing that it took a lot of work to get to a place where she felt stuck; Getting a great review, being asked at the end if she was happy, and bursting into tears; Realizing that no amount of good work and checking the boxes was going to make her happy doing what she was doing; Taking a huge pay cut to move into a field she was more passionate about; The three types of reactions from lawyers at her firm when she announced she was leaving; Why her fears about money came from the narrative of law practice; How she measures success now; and much more!  Show Notes: Free First Steps to Leaving the Law guide—> formerlawyer.com/guide Connect with Tai on Instagram or Facebook

#104 David Gillespie is a lawyer and the author of Sweet Poison, a bestselling book published in 2008 about how we are all poisoning ourselves with sugar.  That book is generally credited with starting the current wave of sugar awareness in Australia. He followed Sweet Poison up with 4 more books about nutrition and diet. Having upset the dietetics industry by writing about stuff in which he has no qualifications, he then turned his focus to something else he is unqualified to write about, education, in his 2014 work, Free Schools. Detouring briefly back to nutrition in his 7 th and 8 th books (Eat Real food, 2015 and the Eat Real Food Cookbook 2016), his latest target is Psychology. In 2017, he released his much-anticipated book on surviving contact with psychopaths in the workplace and at home, Taming Toxic People, and then this year wrote Teen Brain, a book about how teenagers are uniquely susceptible to addiction and why that is a very big problem in an age where addictive screen time is the norm for every single teen. In this riveting episode we cover Why David felt compelled to write the book Teen Brain How screen time changes or influences the brain and behaviour How young males and young women are addicted to screen time differently Just what is danger porn and approval porn We discuss if devices deliver educational results in the school room If there are any benefits to screen time David shares effective rules to help parents confidently manage their kids’ use of screens in a modern world. And so much more
