Send us a textIn this edition of Brewstilled, I'll be recapping the 2025 NFL for the House of The Lombardi teams. The 2025 NFL Drat was one full of drama and surprises that included a surprise free fall for Shedeur Sanders. The Falcons made a bold move with their draft while the Cowboys made some moves that could haunt them when the season begins in the fall. Both the Raiders and the Chargers drafted well that will escalate the rivalry between Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carrol. For the Ravens, they allowed the draft to fall into place. I'll discuss this and more here on Brewstilled with a Dry Irish Stout from Jackrabbit Brewing as the beer pairing.
Welcome to the Chicago Beer Pass: Your ticket to all the great beer events happening in and around Chicago. On this episode of Chicago Beer Pass, Brad Chmielewski and Nik White are keeping things short… it’s been a hectic couple of weeks. Although the guys have been drinking a lot of Irish Red Ales lately they figured they should mix it up with a Dry Irish Stout, this one comes from the fine folks at Sketchbook Brewing. As they knock back a couple of cans Nik shares a few of the spots he’s made it to because Brad’s been slacking on the brewery hopping lately.Having issues listening to the audio? Grab a pint of Guinness and let's go!!!As you all know, Brian and I are also cologne nerds. In the cologne world (fragcom) you have niche (craft) and designers (macro/Big Beer) but there are a few designers that get a pass by the "niche snobs" as being acceptable. Kind of like Guinness. It's really big beer, but most craft crazies don't mind and will still enjoy a Guinness. St. Patrick's Day is the perfect day for it.You don't have to drink Guinness, there are several other great Irish stouts available. And many local breweries offer up a great Dry Irish Stout for the holiday. We share some suggestions for you to check out. Brian is also a fanboy of the "Half and Half," with the old Black and Tan being the most well known. There are a lot of other options there, too.Outside of the beer we dive into who St. Patrick was, or might have been. Some info on the lore and legends of St. Patrick's Day, and some consumer predictions for this year's celebrations. However you do it, have a Happy St. Patrick's Day! This second of two episodes recorded live at 3 Sons Lumberjack Day in September includes two separate interviews. First up is Alex Lawes, cofounder of Dublin, Ireland's Whiplash (https://www.whiplashbeer.com)—a modern brewery known for progressive styles, but also one that focuses on making those styles in low-ABV form for repeat drinkability. Next up is Grzegorz Ziemian, cofounder of Stu Mostów (https://100mostow.pl/en/), a decade-old brewery in Wrocław, Poland, and one of several in that country that helped usher in a new wave of excitement for craft beer. Through the discussion, among other topics, Lawes touches on: using a mash press filter to improve efficiency but also protect delicate flavors the impact of the mash filter on enzyme availability and mash times dialing in pressure to suit the needs of specific styles, such as hazy IPA achieving a more concentrated imperial stout wort without long boils managing hop creep in low-ABV beers building a better recipe for dry Irish stout the beauty of 2.8 percent ABV “micro” IPA Meanwhile, Ziemian discusses: recreating historical recipes such as schöps building a mixed-fermentation brewery in 2022 widening the range of grodziskie via mixed fermentation Baltic porter in Poland And more. Wander inside one of Denver's newest breweries, Wanderment Brewing, and you won't be disappointed. John and Melanie Flaherty, husband and wife team and business partners, alongside their other partner, Sam Odom, have opened up a place that is far from cookie-cutter. This ain't no open-your-box-and-here's-your-brewery, brewery.Wanderment BrewingBorn out of a love for craft beer, music, and a passion for creating something with meaning, Wanderment invites anyone into its space. But if you love a bit of metal music (never too loud, conversation and connections are very important here) while seated on plush stools, surrounded by cozy darkness, this is your third space. But the beer here comes first. As it should. John's love for the science behind the beer combines well with his passion for creativity. Serving up well-crafted beers such as his Flaherty's Dry Irish Stout (he is Irish after all) and his now flagship Vertigo West Coast IPA, amongst many others, Wanderment Brewing aims to please. That aim extends much further than you might think. The dream here is to brew all of the above but also place a focus on rustic ales, meaning saisons and farmhouse ales using mixed culture fermentation giving these beers down-to-earth, complex flavors that will tantalize your taste buds. One of his first forays into this style is his Changing Times Mixed Culture Saison. This ale was aged on dandelion flowers and light French oak, and it was fantastic!Meet John Flaherty of Wanderment BrewingJohn's foray into the craft beer scene was in Florida where his first craft beer was Cigar City's Jai Alai. After experiencing the flavors from that beer, he wanted more, so he ordered a homebrew kit and started brewing - at home and many other breweries throughout Denver. And while software development was his full-time job, which he still works full-time, his dream of brewing professionally has come to fruition at Wanderment Brewing. John is excited about what the future holds for him and his partners. He, Melanie, and Sam will ensure that Wanderment finds its own in Denver, and it will be (and already is) a true gathering place. One where the beer you drink is just as good, if not better, than the friends you'll meet here.Join us as we chat more about Wanderment's future plans and how he got it started in the first place. We'll also talk travel, Oktoberfest, music, and of course, beer.As always, we aim to inspire. So if you're thinking of opening a brewery or you're just a lover of the craft and enjoy the stories behind the beer, tune in for this great conversation with a great human being!Click here for all the show notes.Connect with Wanderment BrewingWanderment BrewingFacebookInstagramCheck out Camp Carpe DiemCheck out https://campcarpediem.com for all the community and fun. It's been a minute since we've recorded, so we decided to come back in style by blind tasting Nitro Dry Irish Stouts. We've got 8 to go through : Guinness, Sullivans, O'Hara's, Murphy's, Forged, Guinness Zero, Zero Gravity and Lawson's. Does Guinness hold the top spot? Or do the American craft brewers make a better beer than the Irish? And, which of these bunch do you try to emulate if you want to submit your home brew to a competition? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/strikemashboil/message

Guinness National Ambassador Ryan Wagner joins us today to explain why this iconic Dry Irish Stout is not a bad choice to drink when you're counting calories! "There's nothing on this planet like a pint of the black stuff." Guinness Dry Irish Stout is a legendary beer, and in fact was brewed for the first time in 1959 to celebrate the 200-year anniversary since Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000-year lease on St. James's Gate Brewery. It's rich, it's creamy, and it's black (well actually, if you look closely, Guinness is ruby red in color but don't tell anyone!). What Makes Guinness Perfect for a Diet: Clocking in at 4.2%, Guinness is surprisingly sessionable, with a beautiful creamy head but lighter and lighter body At 126 calories per 12 ounces, it's quite comparable to many American Light Lagers (@ ~115 calories) Guinness utilizes Nitrogen as well as CO2, making it 75% less carbonated than most beers and less filling PRO TIP : To achieve the classic pour with a Guinness Draft Stout can, get yourself a clean pint glass and hold it at a 45 degree angle. Begin to slowly pour your Guinness Draught in a Can off the side of the glass. As it fills, slowly tilt your glass upwards until it is vertical. Let it settle and enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/what2drink/message
This week as Bob and I continue our month of beers from the UK we take on the most famous category, well at least on St. Patrick's Day, the Dry Irish Stout. A beer that is often misunderstood and completely miscategorized by the novice beer drinker. Contrary to many people's beliefs this beer is not thick, chewy, and sweet. Instead the dry Irish stout presents a light to medium body and finishes very dry. So, grab a beer, sit back and enjoy our Hijinx as we unravel the amazing Dry Irish Stout. Style examples: 1. Murphy's Irish Stout 2. North Coast Brewing Old #38 Stout 3. Pizza Port Seaside Stout · ABV: 3.8-5.0% · IBUs: 25-45 · Color: 25-40 Our sample beer for the week: Guinness Draught 4.2% 45 IBU Beer as described by brewer: Swirling clouds tumble as the storm begins to calm. Settle. Breathe in the moment, then break through the smooth, light head to the bittersweet reward. Unmistakably GUINNESS, from the first velvet sip to the last, lingering drop. And every deep-dark satisfying mouthful in between. Pure beauty. Pure GUINNESS. Guinness Draught is sold in kegs, widget cans, and bottles. The ABV varies from 4.1 to 4.3%. Guinness Extra Cold is the exact same beer only served through a super cooler at 3.5 °C Support the show by doing your Amazon shopping through our affiliate link. This week on Beer Sessions Radio, Jimmy will drive North to Amesbury, Massachusetts, where package stores are cordially called "packey," to visit RMA Craft Beer and Wine packey store for an exclusive tasting and on-site recording session with Rockport Brewing Company. Jimmy is always on the lookout for top-notch retail beershops, and Rockport is a north-of-Boston top-selling local brand. Despite being a small-scale contract brewer, Rockport is committed to quality, community, and unity among workers alike! The conversation kicks off with the unconventional journey of Rockport's founder and sales manager, Ray Pickup, and Tyler Johnson, with a glass of Whale Cove white ale for Jimmy. The gang continues sharing their perspective of the brewing community, emphasizing their appreciation for the local support. Ray will go on to reinstate the Rockport identity in his brand design and marketing, along with an anecdotal history of all his beers, before Tyler reveals the secrets of his top-notch salesmanship. Last but definitely not least, Ray's no-longer-hidden day job as Business Representative for International Union for Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35 and his mission to turn Rockport into the first fully union-affiliated brewery in the country. Jimmy then circles back to the difficulty of small-batch brewing, with an in-depth case study of Ray's tribute to his great grandfather — the Mcateer's Dry Irish Stout!Heritage Radio Network is a listener supported nonprofit podcast network. We're all Irish on St. Patrick's Day Are there any better holiday than drinking holidays? Oktoberfest, Cinco de Mayo, and St. Patrick's Day are all pretty much excuses (at least in America) to drink like we'll never drink again. In our constant quest for knowledge, and beer, we dug into the history of St. Patrick's Day as we sample some Irish beers. What is this holiday even about? Something about snakes? Potatoes? It really doesn't matter to most people. Put on something green and grab a pint of green beer or a Dry Irish Stout and you're officially celebrating. Sláinte! Who was St. Patrick and what did he really do? First off, St. Patrick wasn't Irish. Crazy, right? He was likely Italian or of indigenous Celtic decent, born around 390 AD. He ended up in Ireland after being kidnapped as a teenager and forced into slavery. He escaped and GTFOd, but he eventually returned to Ireland. He didn't drive the snakes out of Ireland, but he is credited with brining Christianity to the country by using an Irish clover to explain the Holy Trinity. It's believe he died on March 17, 461 and so we celebrate St. Patrick's Day every March 17th. St. Patrick's Day beers If you're in the US and you like a good craft beer then your best bet is going to be heading to your local brewery to enjoy the Dry Irish Stout or Irish Red Ale they've likely brewed up for the holiday. Bottle shops are mostly stocked with macros - Guinness, Murphy's, Harp, etc. You'll also find no shortage of green beer at your local bars. Usually a super cheap lager with some food coloring. We ran an Instagram poll on the debated topic of green beers. Check out the show to hear the results! After a few beers we do get a little sidetracked but we dive deep into the invention of the Bacon Bacon Bacon sandwich and analyze the Chicken Wing Index. Irish or not, go have some fun and enjoy a nice nitro pint of Guinness and some corned beef. It may not be traditional, but it'll be pretty damn good. Silver Bluff Brewing is passionate about Mexican Lager Jeff Coyle loves Mexican lagers. So much so that he wrote a detailed article to help others understand the style. If you think Corona when you think of Mexican beers, you should definitely read the article. But first, make sure to listen to our interview with Jeff and his brother Kevin Coyle. The duo are part of the team behind Silver Bluff Brewing Co. Their Mexican lager is a hybrid of sorts. Riding the line between the Clara (Corona) and another traditional Mexican style, the Vienna Lager. Right, Vienna Lager, traditional Mexican beer. Seriously. Locals went crazy for their take on this refreshing brew and it's their top selling beer now. If you're looking for something else they've got plenty of other beers on tap. As we talked they had just brewed a Dry Irish Stout to get ready for St. Patrick's Day, making us realize the holiday is closer than we realized. The Brothers Coyle love their community almost as much as they love beer and making a place where people could gather over a well-made, approachable pint is something their most excited about at Silver Bluff. If the beer and beer garden don't reel you in maybe the coastal scenery of Georgia's Golden Isles will. Maybe both? For now, their beer is distributed in a fairly small area but they are making more beer and hope to expand even further soon.
