Time for a wee chat about Porters and Stouts. Cheers mates! Guinness National Ambassador Ryan Wagner joins us today to explain why this iconic Dry Irish Stout is not a bad choice to drink when you're counting calories! "There's nothing on this planet like a pint of the black stuff." Guinness Dry Irish Stout is a legendary beer, and in fact was brewed for the first time in 1959 to celebrate the 200-year anniversary since Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000-year lease on St. James's Gate Brewery. It's rich, it's creamy, and it's black (well actually, if you look closely, Guinness is ruby red in color but don't tell anyone!). What Makes Guinness Perfect for a Diet: Clocking in at 4.2%, Guinness is surprisingly sessionable, with a beautiful creamy head but lighter and lighter body At 126 calories per 12 ounces, it's quite comparable to many American Light Lagers (@ ~115 calories) Guinness utilizes Nitrogen as well as CO2, making it 75% less carbonated than most beers and less filling PRO TIP : To achieve the classic pour with a Guinness Draft Stout can, get yourself a clean pint glass and hold it at a 45 degree angle. Begin to slowly pour your Guinness Draught in a Can off the side of the glass. As it fills, slowly tilt your glass upwards until it is vertical. Let it settle and enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/what2drink/message
This week as Bob and I continue our month of beers from the UK we take on the most famous category, well at least on St. Patrick's Day, the Dry Irish Stout. A beer that is often misunderstood and completely miscategorized by the novice beer drinker. Contrary to many people's beliefs this beer is not thick, chewy, and sweet. Instead the dry Irish stout presents a light to medium body and finishes very dry. So, grab a beer, sit back and enjoy our Hijinx as we unravel the amazing Dry Irish Stout. Style examples: 1. Murphy's Irish Stout 2. North Coast Brewing Old #38 Stout 3. Pizza Port Seaside Stout · ABV: 3.8-5.0% · IBUs: 25-45 · Color: 25-40 Our sample beer for the week: Guinness Draught 4.2% 45 IBU Beer as described by brewer: Swirling clouds tumble as the storm begins to calm. Settle. Breathe in the moment, then break through the smooth, light head to the bittersweet reward. Unmistakably GUINNESS, from the first velvet sip to the last, lingering drop. And every deep-dark satisfying mouthful in between. Pure beauty. Pure GUINNESS. Guinness Draught is sold in kegs, widget cans, and bottles. The ABV varies from 4.1 to 4.3%. Guinness Extra Cold is the exact same beer only served through a super cooler at 3.5 °C Support the show by doing your Amazon shopping through our affiliate link. Today we're going to try something new. Over on his blog, Jeff has an ongoing series called “Making of a Classic,” which investigates why certain beers have become world standards over the decades. They contain a bit of history, a bit of ethnography, and often a bit of technology. We're going to kick things off today with a beer you're all familiar with: Guinness Draught. It seems as unchanging as it is ubiquitous, yet it has gone through tremendous change since its early origins at the start of the 19th century. As a special treat, we also have the voice of the man who created the final, and current, version of the beer.
This week we continue our Brew Like a Monk series talking about the brewing process from Mash to Fermentor. Our Commerical Calibration this week is Blue Moon. Next week we will be doing Guinness Draught
Can you Guinness Draught with Tennessee Honey? Lets see what we get when we mix the two. It's a weird week as we close in on the anniversary of realizing corona virus was a serious thing and would start changing our lives forever. It seems strange to break life up into "before" and "after" corona when it's only been a year, but it still seems like a huge divider. Bridget has had quite the week with illness in her house and it's a fitting topic of conversation for how we generally feel this week!Don't despair, we opened some Irish beer (made by Guinness, but not Guinness Draught) and soldiered on with some joyful conversation. Here's what we talked about this week:Check out this story that Bridget shared about how two young entrepreneurs are making leather out of cactus. It's a neat and environmentally sustainable way to reimagine a classic product.Nick loves this NY Times story about Dolly Parton getting a dose of her own medicine. Literally she helped fund vaccine development and finally got her vaccine shot!Bridget found this awesome site called Saturday Morning Pancakes that has a lot of hilarious merch with punny sayings and hilarious 90s hip-hop references. You need to check it out.If you love beer and live in the Chicago-land area, you need to check out Solemn Oath Brewery. They currently have an awesome outside beer garden of trees and geodesic domes. It's amazing. The beer is freaking awesome as well.Pickle Brined Fried Chicken Sandwiches are Bridget's recipe pick from this week's meal plan.Perfect for Chicken Schwarma salads, or just a delicious grilled chicken dinner, Nick is suggesting the Yogurt and Lemon Marinated Grilled Chicken Breast recipe. We hope you enjoyed this week's episode and were able to laugh at our frustrations. While it's hard to know exactly what St. Patrick's Day will be like this year, it's still a day to celebrate life! And this year, like every year, I start thinking about the day and buying Guinness Draught, the Guinness beer that most people associate with the brewery, for enjoying at home.

Dia dhuit, which in Irish means HELLO! This is a unique episode as you can see from the .5 in the 33.5 title. Alex has left us for Ireland this week, but before he parted, we recorded a quick mini episode celebrating the Irish Beer Culture, and enjoying the ever famous, Guinness Draught. Guinness is a 4.2% Irish Dry Stout with a rich creamy texture and a velvety aftertaste. This iconic beer is defined by harmony, which is represented by the harp on the front of the pint glass and bottle. We quickly dive into a little history on the Guinness Storehouse located in Dublin Ireland, we then learn how to perform the OFFICIAL Guinness pour, and we finish by giving you all some Beer Facts Fun: Irish Style.
