Nomadik and Chunjay get together to chat about Ukraine, life, baptisms, cussing, and a whole lot more. On this episode we have a “just the two of us” episode. Jamey and Nomadik take some time to catch up, check in and talk about some things that have been in our minds and hearts. We each brought a few things to the table to discuss and took some time to go deeper into those subjects with each other. As always, we discuss what we're sipping and Nomadik kicks it off talking about the recent collaboration he was blessed to do with Mestizo Coffee and Dudley Perkins. Jamey discusses the Ukraine crisis and the direct effect it's having on his life personally. Bouncing off that Nomadik shared the importance of gratitude and how it can shape your thoughts and actions. Jamey brings us into the recent baptism of his son and the beauty of it. To riff off that Nomadik brings up Mister Rogers and the importance of joy and how it can spread and even in the tough times we can share kindness. Lastly we move into beard care and some of the different techniques we've been implementing in our daily routines. We finish it up with a little discussion about integrating different aspects of life. And to bring it all home we play an EXCLUSIVE world premier of a song Jamey wrote for an insurance conference called “Expert Opinions”....it's a lot of fun, and you don't want to miss it. What is up beautiful people!!! We got a treat for you!! We had the pleasure of chopping it up with Carlos of Mestizo coffee. This episode was a combination of fun and depth. We went deep but still had plenty of laughs. He shared with us his journey into faith by way of evangelical Christianity in his teen years and how he came into adulthood with a different perspective, especially after a backpacking trip across Mexico with a friend. He talks about the beginnings of his journey into his new faith, while simultaneously discovering "church rap" and "rap rap." When he discovered apologetics he tells us how hip-hop it was, and how it was son some "Malcolm X, NOI, 5% vibes" and how he had to G up for his. As his outlook and perspective started transitioning, he went from apologetics to philosophy and started selling theology and philosophy books after shows. "The more philosophy you do, there are more appeals to intuition." Next we move into how he went from seminary and trying to battle on MTV, not being able to do it, but getting other blessings from it....like writing and working in television! But what about the coffee? "I had a coffee conversion experience." When he has his first cup of black coffee, he realized he hasn't been drinking coffee. he also realized that there was a deficit in the latino community with quality coffee. Enter Mestizo Coffee. "The reason why I'm doing this at all is to connect with people." Of course we talk about his super dope coffee and artist collaborations with L.A. MC LMNO of the Visionaries crew, producer/MC Peace 586, and the upcoming collaboration with Dudley Perkins. Listen in and turn it up!! Music in this episode: Souls of Mischief -"93 'til Infinity (instrumental) from 1993 album of same name. Bookworm Brown -"Heaven and Earth" from the 2005 album of the same name. Be sure to hit up http://Mestizo.coffee, cop some coffee and merchandise! (Also stay tuned fro a discount coupon for listeners.) This week we have a conversation with Declaime aka Dudley Perkins. This Oxnard-born MC recently released an album of his early collaborative tracks with the great producer Madlib. As Dudley Perkins, he also has a full career as a self-taught singer over very funky production. He is currently focusing a lot of his effort on building up the artists on his label, and we get into all of this and more. DBRP is a proud part of the Stony Island Audio podcast network. On Mama You Can Bet, her new album under her Jyoti alias, Georgia Anne Muldrow embraces her jazz roots. Born and raised in Los Angeles, her parents were immersed in the city’s jazz community. Her father Ronald Muldrow worked with Eddie Harris; Rickie Byars-Beckwith, her mother, worked with Pharoah Sanders. And there’s the matter of her spiritual lineage: the Jyoti name was bestowed upon her by Alice Coltrane at her ashram. “I’ve had many experiences in that woman’s force field, and I’ve never forgot any of them,” Muldrow says, discussing how Coltrane’s work felt like “music from her home planet.” Mama You Can Bet leans into Muldrow’s jazziest tendencies, incorporating two remixes of works by Charles Mingus, whose influence is palpable. But Muldrow is her own creation, and her love of electronic funk, ambient, and hip-hop colors and shades the album. Ahead of what would have been Turiya Alice Coltrane’s birthday on August 27th, Georgia joined Transmissions host Jason P. Woodbury via Skype to discuss the new record, the West Coast jazz tradition, and maintaining a long running creative partnership and independent label with her husband, Dudley Perkins. Mama You Can Bet is available wherever you get music August 28th. This week’s episode of Transmissions was written and produced by Jason P. Woodbury and edited by Andrew Horton. Executive producer Justin Gage. Art and imagery by D Norsen and Heavy Hymns. Hot off the heels of the release of his new single “Violet” - the latest from his forthcoming project Spectrum - Brian “Malik” Baptiste joins hosts Mike Pizzo and Warren Peace to dig through some of his favorite songs of all time. The Austin, TX native chooses a diverse palette of tracks that includes some of the greatest songs of all time, such as cuts from Queen and The Beach Boys to obscurities from Bon Iver and Julie Andrews. They also explore the sample connections between Kanye West, Elton John, and Steely Dan. Malik’s appearance on Let the Record Show marks the 46th episode in the series and the eleventh episode of Season 4. A prolific musical force, Georgia Anne Muldrow has released 19 albums since 2006 and has worked with everyone from Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Brittany Howard, and Blood Orange. Her latest release, 2019’s 'Black Love & War,' is a collaboration with husband Dudley Perkins that sees the poetic geniuses explore the funky depths of Afrofuturism. Troy Nelson expands on Muldrow’s rich history while presenting a symbolic and timely analogy of the plight of a caterpillar’s transformation into a butterfly, in which butterflies only appear when the caterpillar looks inside and is ready to change. Let the Record Show – the crate-dug interview series in which artists discuss their favorite songs of all time as the tracks spin on vinyl – continues its fourth season today with rapper / singer Dudley Perkins aka Declaime. Dudley recently released a new collaborative album with Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Georgia Anne Muldrow – who is also his wife – entitled G&D "Black Love and War". Hot off the heels of this release, Perkins sat down with longtime friends Mike Pizzo and Warren Peace to discuss some of his most influential cuts of all time. Heavily influenced by the funk, his selections span classic cuts that somehow all related back to one another. Vinyl rarities and oddities are shown, such as a 1978 Parliament picture disc, a double-cut/parallel groove De La Soul record, and a Slick Rick "The Great Adventures of..." anniversary edition, complete with eye-patch, the latter courtesy of Urban Legends/UMVD. While discussing his first appearance on wax on Tha Alkaholiks’ 1995 "Coast II Coast" LP, which found him rhyming alongside The Lootpack on “WLIX”, host Mike Pizzo surprises Dudley by producing a lost, unreleased demo EP of his on cassette, entirely produced by Madlib. The tape was put together by Pizzo and Perkins 22 years ago, complete with cover art made in Corel Draw. Dudley’s reaction is priceless. Originally released Feb. 2020.
Hot off the heels of her new album Overload (executive produced by Dudley Perkins, Aloe Blacc & Flying Lotus), Georgia Anne Muldrow selects several records that have influenced her over the years, from the endlessly sampled, genre-defining funk of George Clinton’s Parliament the 80s panache of Prince to the punk rock stylings of Bad Brains. Georgia’s reactions to each of the songs are absolutely priceless – at times heartfelt – such as when she explains how John Coltrane got her through experiencing 9/11 from under the World Trade Center, trapped in the subway. She also emotionally explores her musical family history, with selections from her husband and former Stones Throw labelmate Dudley Perkins, as well as mined 70’s obscurities from her mother Rickie Boger. Originally released March 2019.

Its time for another Best Of as Tunetourist flexes its record shopping muscle and makes a mockery of the notion of music programming by dashing around the globe like a label CEO hooked on air miles. We've got the mighty Spank Rock, an ace Brazilian Tropicalia rarity, NME-darlings Klaxons and We Start Fires, stoned soulman Dudley Perkins and more.
