Episode 118 is our tribute to the late, great Tame One. We love doing tributes on Take It Personal, but we absolutely hate having to do a tribute them under these conditions. We've lost many great artists over the years like Biz Markie, Kangol Kid, MF DOOM, Prince Markie Dee, Gift of Gab, Shock G, Zumbi, Black Rob, Double K, Len Hub (The Roots), Malik B, DJ Kay Slay, Coolio, Takeoff, Pop Smoke, Hurricane G, Ecstasy, Blacastan and Don Newkirk to name a few. And it feels like we're still getting over the loss of Prodigy, Phife Dawg, Sean Price, Pimp C and Guru. On this episode, we're honoring the art created by Rahem Brown, better known as Tame One, one half of the Artifacts and an intricate part of New Jersey hip-hop movement. Tame entered our lives in the early 90s with witty lyrics, an appreciation for graffiti and a passion for hip-hop. He went on to give us two remarkable albums with El Da Sensei as the Artifacts before he took a journey into his solo career. On this tribute we're showcasing everything from the early days with El and Redman to the Eastern Conference days. We got everything from the Leak Bros to The Weathermen to all his great collabos with artists like Del, Sean Price, Hussein Fatal, Yak Ballz and Govna Mattic. This is our Tame One Tribute. We hope you enjoy it! Doe and Meeks took a break last week and actually enjoyed the Super Bowl for once - no Tom Brady, its was Rams vs. Bengals, Dre and company for the halftime show, and lest not forget about the crip walking on the 50 yard line in front of the entire world. BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep224! Doe is out of pocket this week so we’re giving ya’ll his August appearance on Techniques Radio, a weekly hip-hop show that airs on WREK 91.1 FM Georgia Tech Radio in Atlanta, and is run by Ran Mo & The Wrecking Crew All-Stars DJ crew. This was recorded August 22, 2019 and as usual features tons of new hip-hop - radio clean, mind you - kind of safe for work / family! The homie Supastition also dropped by the station for the show to rap about his new EP “Sacrifice” and he dropped a brain melting freestyle over some Trox beats off the new Ty Farris X Trox album “Room 39 Pt 2”. If that ain’t enough, Supreme from Brooklyn Republic / J Dilla Youth Foundation dropped by to talk about the work they’re doing for the foundation in Atlanta and beyond. WHEW! Ok, so - a few things - 1) don’t fret - Meeks and Doe will back with the regular twice a week goodness next week 2) If you’re in Atlanta on Thursday nights, make sure check out Techniques Radio from 9p-11p ET, or check out WREK.org for the live stream and the 2 week archive AND 3) for you history buffs, this Thurs time slot at WREK is the longest running hip-hop slot in Atlanta - it started way back in 1986! BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep 149! Whew folks, last week was a barnstormer personally for your guys Doe & Meeks - massive personal challenges on the home front coupled with a few snow days left us bailing on an episode & interview session. Yeah, we know we said it was coming later in the week on Thurs - we apologize. ALAS! Here we are - our Ep149 mix with so much heat you won’t be able to stand it, AND an interview session with top shelf NYC photographer Photo Rob! If you don’t know the resume, you’re about to find out - it’s pretty likely some of his photos are your favorite and are found a number of hip-hop albums and publications you own. Remember those Jay Electronica & Jay-Z flicks from the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival a few years ago - yep, that’s just a small sample. STREAM or DOWNLOAD On this seven hour broadcast Mista Montana and Menace do this: We catch up with Caxton-Press founder and Speakers Corner co-creator, Manage, and reflect on Chuck-D’s praise of Caxton Press’s recent show at Koko Club, the addition of performing with a live band, ‘Shame The Devil’ receiving best ‘UK Hip-Hop album’ in Wordplay magazine, Tim Westwood leaving the BBC, forthcoming solo material and of course the future of Caxton Press as a group and as solo members respectively. Taking to Conspiracy Worldwide Radio, Stalley climbs in the saddle and rides with Mista Montana and Menace to talk his latest mixtape ‘Honest Cowboy’, XXL’s recent accusations of Maybach Music Group holding him back, sampling, working with DJ Quik and his forthcoming debut, which he reveals is 80% finished and features the assistance of DJ Quik. We also talk about his future, which will include more work with Scarface and a show this month at London’s Jazz Café. Willie the Kid is with us to discuss his Alchemist laced release, ‘Masterpiece Theatre’ and its creation. We talk everything from its cinematic cover-art, working at what Alchemist calls ‘Rap Camp’ where ‘Rare Chandeliers’ was being recorded at the same time as ‘MPT’, Alchemist’s modesty as a rapper and more. We also touch on his upcoming ‘Aquamarine’ mixtape, a short-film called ‘The Fly’, which he assures us is “not a typical Rap movie” as well as future work with Alchemist and Action Bronson. Two artists responsible for one of this years dopest albums, Killer-Mike & El-P join us in the form of Run The Jewels to talk about their latest release, chemistry, the influence 80’s Hip-Hop had creating it, the prospects of a UK tour, Mr. Killums’ drug problem, Killer Mike’s plans to work again with Immortal Technique and Brother Ali, the possibility of releasing a Mr. Killum’s soft-toy and the future of Company Flow, which El-P reveals isn’t “impossible”. Fresh off tour with Tony Starks, the ever consistent Killah Priest is back with news of upcoming music, most notably including an upcoming album with Ghostface Killah titled ‘Natural Born Killas’, which is already 4/5 songs deep! In addition, we talk ODB’s forthcoming Rock the Bells hologram appearance, turning down major label deals, the future of The Four Horsemen, Black Market Militia and Wu-Tang’s long awaited ‘A Better Tomorrow’, which he reveals he’s recently been exchanging ideas with Ghostface, Inspectah Deck and GZA for. Exciting times! Minneapolis’s Dessa serves a critical and enchanting insight into her latest and 3rd release ‘Parts Of Speech’ and explains why she feels it’s her most “clear-eyed” album to date. Intimate and oft moving, the first lady of Doomtree descends into focus mode and details her creativity’s relationship with the human condition. Listen.  We chop it up with BK mainstay Block McCloud to explore his new group Gods of Chaos, which is comprised of himself and Big Duke of Pyscho Realm. Set to solidify itself as an evolutionary and ambitious project in both of their catalogues, we discuss the creation of ‘13’ and some of its dark concepts. We also talk about the many upcoming projects he has in the works including, a collaborative album with Blacastan entitled ‘Black Blocks’, a new Army of the Pharaohs album, a project with his wife and music with Shabaam Sahdeeq!  Legendary film director and creative cultural artist Charlie Ahearn takes 30 minutes out his schedule to discuss his latest documentary ‘Jamel Shabazz: Street Photographer’ and the legacy of Wildstyle, which he discloses details of an upcoming 30th anniversary Bluray edition of the iconic film set to feature additional footage! We also talk Hip Hop in 2013, Kickstarter, Instagram and so much more in an interview with a bonafied cultural legend! AND THAT'S NOT ALL! STREAM or DOWNLOAD On this episode of CWR Mista Montana and Menace venture south with: Fresh off the release of his recently released Intermission mixtape, Freeway joins us during an intermission to discuss his forthcoming Roc-A-Fella Records documentary, the revelation of a new State Property album and projects with  Brother Ali and The Jacka in a self-assured and colourful interview with one of Hip Hop's brightest lights. We also discuss future collaborations with rising Philly heavyweight Jakk Frost, his hopes of working with Kanye West again and much more! Rapper Big Pooh has every reason to be proud. His new album Dirty Pretty Things and self-owned record label are causing a buzz rarely seen outside wasp nests, so it was a true honour to talk with the man himself. Expect the unexpected as Pooh breaks down the creation of his new opus, 9th Wonder, Phonte, his forthcoming colabs and his future work.     More than ever before, Consequence is on demand. With a new project entitled Curb Certified on the horizon and a new-found passion in growing his own business with his label Bandcamp Records, Cons is on his own spaceship right now. In this interview the ever optimistic and ambitious Consequence talks the creation of Curb Certified and its recent leaks, plans of working with DJ Premier, Jay Dilla, hardships of his past, Don't Quit Your Day Job and it's relevance with today’s political climate plus more. Statik Selektah joins us in busy form to discuss his new production for Eminem, to be featured on Eminem's forthcoming collaborative effort with Obie Trice. Forever working, Statik tells of his plans to make an album in a day with Bun B, as well as his reaction of some people to his latest compilation Population Control. We take time to discuss Nas' new album, a project that Statik has a firm hand in, as well as his hopes to work on future Slaughterhouse material. A rapid update. Blacastan is a master and builder, crafting some of Hip Hop' strongest architecture, so it was a pleasure to build with the workhorse about his new project; Master Builder 2, which is scheduled for release early 2012.  We also talk his recent accomplishments such as his recent induction into the Demigodz, landing a spot on Violence Begets Violence, forthcoming collaborations wth AOTP and Celph Titled, performing, his grass roots grind and more before being joined by Jus Allah and Virtuoso for an update on their new projects and a fatal three way acapella. Essential listening! The People Under The Stairs are back, joining us in the form of one half of the group's Thes-One to hold a detailed discussion on their fantastic album Highlighter. Rated as one of the most consistently innovative groups to emerge from L.A., Thes-One talks us through the creation of Highlighter and identifies the reasons behind choosing to record it at multiple hand-picked studios in Los Angeles. In addition to the aesthetics of this, we also talk sampling, artwork, longevity, touring and more in an definitive highlight interview. Eligh and Amplive step into the studio for a candid therapy session and discussion regarding their forthcoming release Therapy At 3. We discuss the origins of the album and the aesthetics of its creation, Eligh's writing process, the therapy of touring versus the therapy of recording, being therapists of each others work together in the process of communication, creative approaches and more. In addition, we talk the future of both Eligh and Amp-Live, which will include a tour in support of Therapy At 3, a potential collaborative project between Grouch, Eligh and Zion-I and a new Livin' Legends album next year! Hasan Salaam nobly enters the show filled with anticipation for his forthcoming release Music Is My Weapon, available Dec 6th. We discuss the importance of this new project, with all of the proceeds being actively used to fund the building of a school, clean water well, and medical clinic in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. YOU must support this justified cause HERE and watch Hasan's excellent new music video for the single 1911 HERE In addition to a frank discussion regarding these efforts to provide change to a country that remains one of the poorest and least politically stable in the world, we find time to discuss the new range of producers Hasan is working with including The Snowgoons and CWR's long-time affiliate Cross Bone T J-Zone dramatically leaps onto the show live from a car journey to discuss his brand new book Root For The Villain, available to purchase HERE .Far from a comfortable, cozy documentation of a glamorous Rap Life, this piece of brutally frank and at times, painfully truthful literature is an essential read. We take time to discuss the creation of the book, J-Zone's musings regarding future musical output, Heavy D's sad passing and a mutual celebration of Too Much Trouble's mass murdering midget, Bar-None. As live as it gets. Ho.   AND THAT'S NOT ALL! BONUS PODCAST-ONLY FOOTAGE An accomplished Moka Only swings through the studio just hours before his debut show in London, offering a detailed exploration behind the making of his latest set Crickets, as well as revealing new forthcoming music with Madchild.
