Send us a textToday's episode is my conversation about the 1930 film King of Jazz. I'm joined by Matthew Brady from the Warren Peace newsletter and we talk about the use of color in this film that sets it apart for many other films of the time, the relative success of various comedy bits throughout the film, and how many of the sequences throughout are reminiscent of the vaudeville days. You can watch King of Jazz online for yourself or pick up the Criterion release of the film, and be sure to check out Matthew's newsletter.Other films mentioned in this episode include:"Sinkin' in the Bathtub" directed by Hugh Harman and Rudolf IsingAll Quiet on the Western Front directed by Lewis Milestone"Africa" directed by Walter LantzHollywood Revue of 1929 directed by Charles F. This week, Evan and Skyler discuss the official hiring of Warren Schaeffer to be the eighth full-time manager of the Colorado Rockies. Is this the right move? What does Schaeffer bring to the table, and why is he a better fit than bigger name and potentially more expensive managers that were options? Meanwhile, there are still plenty of other decisions that need to be made soon with the Winter Meetings quickly approaching. Schaeffer needs to fill out his coaching staff and president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta needs to find his general manager and fill other front office positions. Can a Fifth Tuesday be the *first* Tuesday of the month? We're pretty sure we laid that groundwork over the summer, which is why we're kicking off back-to-school season with Sky High (2005), our non-spooky freebie for September. Though it definitely brings the Halloween dress up vibes, this flick may be more family friendly than fearsome, but it still stars horror icons like Kurt Russell, Bruce Campbell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. With its empowering message, extremely pleasing color palette, and an all-time bad-boy-with-a-heart-of-gold performance in Warren Peace, this movie was the moment back in the day — and, 20 years later, we're talking on our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday about why it still is. This week, the No More Late Fees gals are taking it to the clouds—literally—with a deep dive into Sky High, the 2005 Disney superhero flick that blended high school angst with spandex and laser vision. Jackie and Danielle relive the charm of Will Stronghold's awkward ascent from powerless freshman to full-on hero, fangirl hard over Warren Peace (because duh), and marvel at the casting perfection that gave us Kurt Russell, Kelly Preston, and Linda Carter in one glorious package. If you've ever wondered what Hogwarts would look like with capes and cafeteria brawls, this is your cinematic comfort food. But that's not all! The duo spill all the juicy behind-the-scenes tea—from the sequel that never was to casting “what-ifs” that will make your head spin (Alec Baldwin? Danny Trejo?!). There's debate over superhero genetics, impassioned rants about Layla's questionable choices, and a proper send-up to the real MVP: Ron Wilson, Bus Driver. Add in some throwback trivia, fandom hot takes, and a nostalgic love letter to Disney's mid-2000s magic, and you've got an episode that's more fun than a power placement day gone rogue. Buckle up, listeners—this one's sky high in laughs and geeky glee.·Season 5 Episode 16—No More Late Fees https://nomorelatefeespodcast.com909-601-NMLF (6653)—Follow Us on Social:Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/nomorelatefees TikTokhttps://www.tiktok.com/@nomorelatefees Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/nomorelatefeesYoutubehttps://www.youtube.com/@nomorelatefees Twitterhttps://x.com/NoMoreLateFees —CONQUERingmyconquering.com10% Off Code: JACKIE10

Send us a textToday's episode is my conversation about the 1928 film White Shadows in the South Seas. My friend Matthew Brady from the Warren Peace newsletter joins me to discuss the film and we talk about why this film was almost a shoe in for winning Best Cinematography at the 2nd Academy Awards, how interesting it was to be able to see some aspects of indigenous life on the South Pacific islands of around 100 years ago, and the cautionary tale that is this film. Who Goes Here? by Bob Shaw is a quirky Sci-Fi adventure. Our protagonist, Warren Peace (yes, Warren Peace!) awakens in a doctor's office with literally no memory of who he is, why he's there, or anything about himself. The memory erasure is a "perk" of having enlisted in the Space Legion. Warren quickly realizes that the only way to survive is to regain his lost memory and flee the Legion. It's a fun tale, with a number of surprises and an unexpectedly complex plot. A favorite of Tom's, Tony had never heard of it before. It's nowhere near Cancer season, but we're talking about it anyway because we'll be on hiatus in July. Join us this episode as we talk about nurturing characters in every capacity, with such hot takes as “Steve Harrington is a better father figure than Hopper,” “Regina George is more nurturing than Lorelai Gilmore,” and “Carlisle 100% should have been the main character of Twilight.” From smothering mothers to reluctant father figures, side characters nerfed by niceness to plant girlies who should have ended up with Warren Peace, this episode is here for all your nurturing character needs. Disclaimer: We are in no way making a comment on actual Cancers, nor are we talking about canonically Cancer characters—we're simply using Cancer traits as a frame to talk about writing fictional characters. CAR! On this week's episode, the Podcast Two have received a call from Bob Iger to write a sequel to the 2000s cult classic Sky High. They're joined by Actor/Musician Shayan Sobhian who knows a thing or two about superheroes from his time playing Behrad on DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Will the script send the characters to college like the original pitch outlined? Will Layla end up with Will or the real hunk Warren Peace? Will this family film still treat a caste system like it's totally normal? Will the Podcast 2 win their $1000 bet with Shayan? Does the original star Bill Pullman or Kurt Russell? Ryan does his best in this episode to explain why he isn't like other cult leaders. Tiler leads us down a road of reminding us just how violent the game of American Football was. We're SUPER stoked about this week's episode! All aboard the rocket bus, it's time to fly up to Sky High (2005). An unquestioned staple of our superhero loving childhoods, we absolutely adored this movie growing up and didn't realize until much later that it included so many big name actors! Not to mention the universal bad boy blue print: Warren Peace. Our fellow podcaster and friend Christina Jumper joins us this week as we determine whether Sky High is just as heroic and heartwarming as we remember from our youth, or if this floating school was better left grounded. Let's find out together!

The “Second Act” series is based on the fact that, in my mind, everything we did “pre-covid” was the First Act. The Second Act is what we’re in right now as states start to re-open and we get back to events. What I’ve come to realize as we’ve been going through this pandemic is that there are a lot of great stories out there – things of hope, things that are super raw for folks, and even stories of great loss. I wanted to get these stories out there because I think we can learn a little something from others that are going through it, just like we are. In this episode (volume 5), I interview Michael Mahler with Vibo, Hector Escobedo from Pioneer and Warren Peace from Direct Music Service in 3 separate mini interviews. These companies are so important to our industry yet they have no outlet for sharing how COVID has affected their businesses. Enjoy these candid conversations. Have a topic you want covered? Let the Record Show – the crate-dug interview series in which musicians, DJs, rappers, and producers discuss their favorite songs of all time as the tracks spin on vinyl – continues with its “Socially Distant Series” of video-conference episodes. Episode 49 features indie-rap-sensation-turned-funky-drummer J-Zone. With the release of the fifth Du-Rites album A Funky Bad Time coming on November 13th, J-Zone joins hosts Mike Pizzo and Warren Peace to dig through some of his favorite tracks. Early 90s hip-hop deep cuts from Ice Cube, Terminator X, Schoolly D and Tim Dog show the clear influence seen in J’s early rap solo recordings on Old Maid Entertainment, while a selection of refined rare grooves from Kool & The Gang, Slave, and Jack DeJohnette exemplify his love for drumming as a part of The Du-Rites. In each case, oddball pressings and vinyl rarities are showcased for each song. J-Zone’s appearance on Let the Record Show marks the 49th episode in the series and the fourteenth episode of Season 4. Guests on previous episodes this season have included Cut Copy, Blu & Exile, Sofi Tukker, The Free Nationals, R.A. Richards’ set of song selections almost plays like a recipe for his G-House sound, mixing pioneering electronic classics from Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder with west coast hip-hop standards from Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, and adding in a dash of darkness from Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails. Having founded the Electronic Daisy Carnival, Hard Fest, and AMFAMFAMF festivals, as well as having worked alongside Rick Rubin at Def American, and still regularly producing his own brand of electronic music, Richards has spent a lifetime in the music industry. He recounts tales of strange dinners with Ruthless Records founder Jerry Heller, Warren G passing out in the studio, getting The Cure to cover Depeche Mode and upsetting Giorgio Moroder.

Also touching upon the music of George Clinton, Del reveals the history behind the creation of his 1991 debut album "I Wish My Brother George Was Here" with his cousin Ice Cube.
