Chuck Strangers has been making noise from the Pro Era to the current era. Originally known primarily as a producer, Chuck is also nice on the mic and has released several acclaimed solo albums. Today he joins Dad Bod Rap Pod hosts Demone Carter, David Ma, and Nate LeBlanc to discuss his most recent album, A Forsaken Lover's Plea. It's more fun than it sounds. We discuss his Brooklyn rap Mt. Rushmore, the absurdity of modern vinyl culture, his friendship with underground man of mystery Ka, and the importance of honesty in writing and delivering raps. In the intro segment, your hosts roll up for a magical mystery tour. That's right, we spend the segment talking about hip-hop's undisputed drug of choice, the mostly legal but slightly controversial marijuana. We often ask our guests whether they prefer indica or sativa, and we begin there before talking about the haphazard nature of national legalization, and how music and weed have intertwined in our lives. Our theme song is spoken in a syncopated rhythmic manner by DEM ONE and the sounds were arranged in a slightly different rhythmic grid by our dear friend Cutso. The podcast itself was mixed by Taylor Weng. The podcast is available everywhere through access provided by Stony Island Audio, a super dope group of independent hip-hop commentators and practitioners to be associated with.

Episode Title: The Spiritual Awakening: Mind, Body, and SpiritMaster remaining multidimensional, recognizing your spiritual journey, the iteration and process of self-development, observing symbolism from the mind's eye, showcasing our genius, and becoming ready to face ourselves. 19 Keys ft Joey Bada$$Description:19 Keys presents High Level Conversations to bring you into the high frequency of speech and communication to elevate your mindset and value.S2E11 Ft. Joey Bada$$Featured Guest Bio:Joey Bada$$, born Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott (b. January 20, 1995) is an American rapper, actor, and record producer hailing from Brooklyn, New York. Becoming known for his rugged 90's style, an invigorating outcome of his Brooklyn neighborhood and surroundings, Joey Bada$$ has been a staple in the hip-hop industry for maintaining an authentic, unique and versatile sound. Whereas other rappers may take fewer risks with formulaic projects, Joey never shies away from keeping his music raw and original. He is a co-founder of the collective Pro Era, with whom he has released two mixtapes and toured the globe multiple times. Joey gained recognition after he released his debut mixtape, 1999, on June 12, 2012 to critical acclaim and recognition, followed by Rejex in September, and Summer Knights on July 1, 2013. His debut studio album, B4.DA.$$, released on January 20, 2015 (his 20th birthday) through Pro Era Records / Cinematic Music Group, sold an impressive 56,000 units its opening week making it the #1 rap and #1 independent album in the country. The project henceforth received acclaim from his critics as well as his fans and is the catalyst that has placed Joey among Hip-Hop's elite, as the album has sold 148,000+ copies worldwide to date. After his debut album, Joey has spent the better part of 2015 touring; playing overseas festivals; creating original music for soundtracks, such as Southpaw, as well as a national tour in the US, all while establishing the first annual Steez Day Festival in New York City on July 7th, 2015. Joey's sophomore album, ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$, was released on April 7, 2017, despite being leaked about a week earlier (which was due in part to an early physical press of the album). The project includes features from heavy-hitters such as ScHoolBoy Q, J. Cole and Styles P, as well as known collaborators Kirk Knight, Nyck Caution, Chronixx and Meechy Darko. In an interview with XXL, Joey Badass stated that he was influenced by Nas, Tupac Shakur, Black Thought, MF DOOM, J Dilla, Andre 3000, Jay-Z and The Notorious B.I.G. He has received heavy comparison to late rapper Big L. He has also been compared to Nas during his Illmatic era. This Episode:This episode goes high level into the conversation of our understanding of the ideology of the spiritual journey, being impressed by nothing but God, the necessity to plug into nature and recharge, Black power and mysticism, and the war on Black masculinity.

Getting his start in Frederickburg, VA, Cane, commonly known as the Don Draper of rap, has built serious momentum over the past few years. After his fans turned out in support of his race to open for DC's ill-fated Rock the Bells, those in the industry began to take notice. Cane appeared on MTV's RapFix Live as a part of their Get in the Game segment. With Joey Bada$$, Pro Era, and Sway in the studio, he received enormous praise for his visual "Grassroots Tangent" During his appearance, Cane caught the ear of Statik Selektah, which led to multiple collaborations, including a spot on Statik's latest album “Lucky 7,” where Cane was alongside the legendary Talib Kweli & Pro Era standout CJ Fly. Keeping up with the buzz, Cane dropped “Lou Cane”, a joint project w/ long time collaborator Lou Burna. Cane has made numerous appearances on SIRIUS XM Shade 45, as well as performing with artists such as Earl Sweatshirt, Rapsody, and headlining at DC's historic Howard Theatre in 2015. Cane has performed shows at SXSW, and NY hotspots Webster Hall and SOBs. Gaining the attention of coveted sites such as XXL, The Source, 2DBZ, and more Cane has become a prominent fixture in DMV rap.

For Episode 68, Ray, Sillah & Toren begin by reflecting on DMX and his legacy, rest in power to an icon and music legend. Reflecting on X's legacy leads to a conversation on the rap game and which coast has been running it since the turn of the century? The trio argues that the East Coast were dominant in the early 2000s specifically with the likes of Ja Rule, 50 Cent and Jay Z in their primes. In 2005 came the introduction of The Game and the Documentary album, with him 'bringing back the west coast" and at the time arguably carrying it on his back, at the same time that Kanye West was on the come up with the release of Late Registration and College Dropout the previous year. In the latter 2000's we saw the South start to take stride with the rise of both trap and crunk music, notable names include Jeezy, T.I and Soulja Boy. From 2010 we saw the emergence of a new era of east coast music with A$AP MOB and Pro Era setting trends and new styles, whilst over on the west coast TDE were also gaining popularity, as we argue that the game was more contested between the turn of the last decade up until around 2015/16. From thereon can it be argued that the south has taken back control with Atlanta arguably being at the forefront of the music game with the likes of the Migos, Future and Playboi Carti? Let us know your thoughts! In the second half of the episode, Ray poses the concept of 'Green Flags' as opposed to Red Flags when considering a partner, and asks Toren & Sillah what some of their green flags are? These include having a drive, a good relationship with family and being a patient individual. These throwback Episodes initially aired public but were removed as a result of the change in plans of the audio service we were using before. Now we are happy to share these insightful interviews which began the AUDIO journey of Artist Interviews with Out Da Box Radio. Original Show Description: Out Da Box Radio is happy to bring you an enlightening interview with Veteran Producer and Emcee, Ray West and OC (of D.I.T.C.). They also spoke on the album’s theme and the importance of preserving Jazz and Blues music for today and future generations. In addition they talked about what naturally evolving Hip Hop should sound like in 2014 and referenced artists like Roc Marciano and Ka as artists who exemplify the New York sound in its most authentic form today. On the beat making side, Ray took a moment to speak on the subject of Analog Vs Digital production as well as his thoughts on artists who use a software approach. He states “I try not to hate on anybody’s process, as long as they’re creating music that they feel good about and they can make it sound dope, then I’m a 100 percent with it”. As the interview progressed, OC gave some insight into his earlier career in reference to his debut LP “Word Life”, and the story behind his successful “Time’s Up” Record. He further touched on the success of being a part of the D.I.T.C. crew and offered up some advice for hip-hop crews of this generation (i.e. Pro Era) to continue to flourish. In conclusion, Ray and OC spoke on their relationship with fellow D.I.T.C. emcee and friend “AG”. They also offered some insight into the reflective subject of “Rules They Would Break And Rules They Would Keep” if they had the chance to start their career all over again. This was truly an insightful interview that taught me a lot about these artists, their perspectives and their profound contributions to Hip Hop music. I feel that true fans of 90’s Golden Era Hip Hop will deeply appreciate this interview. It was a great pleasure to build with Ray and OC and I wish them much success in their future endeavors. Feel free to support their latest project entitled “Ray’s Café” out now via Red Apples 45, available on vinyl as well as itunes. In the meantime, certainly take some time to listen to our in-depth interview with the two artists. We truly hope you are inspired!

Joey grew up around the corner from the Macy projects in Brooklyn. Initially he had his sights set on becoming an Actor and was enrolled in the drama class at his school. There he met up with his future Pro Era collaborators and they would rap at lunch, in class, after school pretty much all the time. He knew about Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole before 99% of the world did and studied them as they were coming up. He would find success early when a video of him rapping at 15 would catch the attention of Jonny Shipes from Cinematic Music Group.

I would almost consider 2018 the new golden years of hip hop. Its been a lot of great projects that have been put out by rappers. A lot of people say that rappers sound the same nowadays, but if you dig deep enough you will always find gems. This year you did not have to. Good material is easily accessible. Anderson. Paak was highly in anticipation after gifting people with his classic album Malibu. Dr Dre took him under his wing and helped him polish another possible classic and that is Oxnard. I think every track sounds sonically dope besides maybe 1 song and that track may grow on me. Big K.R.I.T dropped a surprise EP as well. Kirk Knight of Pro Era dropped an album too. I go back to the previous podcast and talk about Swizz Beats last album versus 9th wonders album. I think 9th wonder should make Swizz go back to the drawing board. 9th has star power throughout his album but nowhere near the superstars that swizz has throughout his album, yet it outshines from lyrics to beat selection. Both are solid efforts. Kevin Durant and Draymond get into a rift and Draymond hits Kevin Durant below the belt with his words. Kevin is gone after this year. As a OKC fan you know where i want to see him sign. Come home. Carmelo Anthony cut from the Rockets just after 10 games. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jameel-monroe/support

Straight out of Joey Bada$$ clique, Nyck Caution drops by to talk about the future of his Knicks, LeBron vs. Kobe, how Westbrook and Paul George will mesh on the Thunder, and the responsibility of being a New York rapper. Before he joins, Tyler talks about why he absolutely will not be watching the new season of BoJack Horseman and why he remains unexcited about the upcoming NFL season. Coley rubs it in Tyler's face that he met Jon Taffer today, because Coley is a bad person. Not as bad a person as that sentient lard of curdled cottage cheese Jason Whitlock. But a bad person nevertheless.
First off, shout out to Shiest Bubz for having one of the illest podcasts in hip-hop right now. Episode 7 definitely does not disappoint and takes the Bubz World podcast to another level. When Bubz and his special guest Joey Bada$$ sit down for a conversation, or a “reasoning” as we say in the West Indian culture the two herbalists have a really intense reasoning full of gems. Joey starts off the episode speaking about Synchro Life, being one with the universe, having spiritual knowledge and believing in yourself which is something I preach to almost everyone I know so it’s refreshing to hear other people on the same wave, especially a superstar such as Joey Bada$$. They also touch on the life, legacy, and influence of Capital STEEZ. Professor Badmon also touches on the college lectures he’s been doing as of late, how proud he is of his fellow Pro Era brethren who are also turning into superstars in their own right. For as young as he is, Jozif definitely has an impressive insight and is 1000% on his way to becoming a cultural icon, not just in Hip-Hop but Pop Culture as a whole. Take 24 minutes out of your day to smoke up and listen to Joey and Shiest chop it up and peep the gems. Joey Bada$$ released his debut album on January 20, 2015: his 20th birthday. It hit the Top 5 on the Billboard charts. For the track "Hazeus View," he worked with Kirk Knight, another member of the Pro Era hip-hop collective. In this episode, the two of them break down the process of making "Hazeus View," how the lyrics reflect Joey’s wide-angle take on religion, and how the beat was inspired by DJ Premier and a beat he made for the Biggie song "Ten Crack Commandments."

Biography: Leon Marin is an independent Hip Hop Music artist from Gowanus, Brooklyn, N.Y. described as a "breath of fresh air" by his audience. He refrains from creating music about typical topics such as sex, drugs, and money that oversaturate the radio and music industry today. Instead, Leon creates music about his past and present experiences, his optimistic hopes, and his dreams for the future. His music incorporates story telling, advanced rhythmic flows, and wordplay, while using complimentary production that helps capture and set the mood. Deriving from much ridicule, harsh living environments. and other obstacles, he uses his struggles as fuel to do and create more. Over the past few years, Leon has performed in hundreds of show with legendary entertainers such as The Roots, Uncle Murda, Jack Thriller, and more. He received his debut of national exposure during a performance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" which catered to over four million viewers world wide. Leon Marin is ready to secure his spot as one of New York's greatest Hip Hop Music Artists and will not stop until he has gained his rightful title.
