We're BACK! In the Season 5 premiere I'm joined by Raven Hunter, Diz Mega & Ben Neumann to talk about the West Coast pioneer, King Tee. Tee isn't brought up enough when talking about West Coast artists & their impact. From his iconic album covers, his classic songs from the late 80's/early 90's, to introducing the world to Tha Alkaholiks, the OG member of the Likwit Crew deserves his spot in Hip-Hop history. In this episode of People's Party, Talib Kweli sits down with Tash from Tha Alkaholiks to discuss working with Pharrell, Bow Wow performing Tash's rhymes, King Tee, and much more.
B. Cox reviews West Coast hip-hop trio Tha Alkaholiks debut album 21 & Over, as it turns 30. The trio, made up of emcees Tash, E-Swift and J-Ro, formed in the late 1980s and were mentored by legend King Tee. After signing to Loud/RCA, the group started recording their debut album. The album would be a compact, but power-packed 35 minute effort that introduced this eclectic, but a serious group of emcess to the hip-hop game. The group's style, which was based around a fun-loving times filled with drinks, weed smoking and partying, was not of the slapstick or parody type of music that many thought it would be. Going more of the route of some of the West Coast contemporaries like Cypress Hill, Pharcyde and Souls of Mischief, the 'Liks' sound featured hard hitting and funky sample based beats with capable emceeing while maintaining a feel good vibe. The album featured the likes of Field Trip, Threat, the duo Lootpack (a young MadLib and Wildchild) from Stones Throw Records, and King Tee himself. The group and King Tee produced the majority of the album with E-Swift taking charge of much of the production credits. While none of the albums three singles charted on the Hot 100, they did catch on on the Hot Rap and R&B Charts and the group would gained a cult following in the coming years among West Coast fans and eventually worldwide due to their fun-loving demeanor while displaying a high level of emceeing and beats that could get the parties rocking or heads nodding.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comBuy Exclusive The Vault Podcast Merchandise!www.vaultclassicpod.com/storeSupport The Vault Classic Music Reviews on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodBuild Your Own Amazing Podcast Website In Less Than 5 Minutes!https://www.podpage.com/?via=ivecre8Show NotesAlbumism: Tha Alkaholiks Debut Album '21 & Over' Turns 25 | Anniversary Retrospectivehttps://albumism.com/features/tha-alkaholiks-debut-album-21-and-over-turns-25-anniversary-retrospectiveTime Is Illmatic: Tha Alkaholiks: 21& Overhttps://timeisillmatic.me/2017/06/02/tha-alkaholiks-21-over-august-24-1993/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
In 1991, Steve Rifkind founded LOUD RECORDS. In the decade that followed, LOUD would cultivate one of the most iconic rosters in hip-hop history, including Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Big Pun, 3 6 Mafia, Dead Prez, and Tha Alkaholiks. But the label's success was a product of more than just one man's effort. LOUD was the confluence of Rifkind's vision and network, childhood friend and partner Rich Issacson's iron-fisted governance, and the impeccable taste, tone, and tireless efforts of an ensemble cast of hip-hop obsessed young staffers. Not to mention the timeless art of some of the most talented rappers and producers to pick up a mic or tap on a beat machine. On this week's episode of Idea Generation's All Angles, we talked to founders Rifkind and Issacson, A&Rs Matty C, Schott Free, and Sean C, Radio VP MoeJoe, as well as Havoc from Mobb Deep, to hear the full story of how LOUD RECORDS grew from a one room office on Melrose Ave to one of the most successful record labels of the ‘90s. And how the inspired chaos that fueled their rise ultimately contributed to the legendary label's undoing.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Huge thank you to the CEO/Founder of Loud Records and Spring Sound Steve Rifkind for coming on my show for an interview! Steve talked about how the music business was failing before Covid hit, what he learned from his father Jules Rifkind, and creating the first Street Team. He spoke about his experience of managing New Edition when they made their Heart Break album. He got into not wanting to start Loud Records at first, then signing legendary acts such as Twista, Tha Alkaholiks, Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, and Big Pun, and when he knew that he had a hit with Wu-Tang. He told the stories of where he was when Big Pun and Prodigy passed away. He also got into how 2Pac was his roommate and his Biggie Smalls story. He discussed getting the Miramax Films picture deal for Paid in Full. He then talked about having the last laugh when signing Akon to SRC, managing DMX, wanting to have a 60th birthday concert combined of artists from both Loud Records & SRC, and how he is expanding his current label Spring Sound. In episode 32 I talk to Tash (Tha Alkaholiks) about King Tee, an American West Coast Hip hop rapper from Compton, California. Emerging as one of Compton's earliest hip hop artists, he was signed to Capitol records, where he released his debut album Act a Fool in 1988 with the hit singles "Act a Fool," "Payback's A Mutha," "The Coolest," and "Bass” [Remix], all of which were considered hip-hop classics. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he worked primarily with producer DJ Pooh, and was responsible for the rise of Tha Alkaholiks, whom he helped guide into the rap game. King T is also the CEO of his own record label, King T Inc.

James "J-Ro" Robinson and The Alkaholiks brought a whole new sound to West Coast Hip-Hop in the early 90's, fusing East-Coast inspired, sample-chopped tracks, with laid back, punchline-riddled Cali flows. However, the journey to the top wasn't easy. Hear about J's upbringing in The San Fernando Valley, the failed demo-deal with A&M Records, and why spraying beer on a crowd isn't the best way to make new friends.Join the Stupid Fly Posse at www.stupid-fly.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Well, Friday is here, so that means we are turning our gaze to what's been happening in the world of #MMA They have put on some tremendous fights in their time (10 & 13yrs) with the 'UFC', but Alistair Overeem and Junior dos Santos have made the walk to the octagon for the last time! Thinking about what's next for them 'Rizin Fighting Federation' President Nobuyuki Sakakibara (who signed him at 'Pride') has said he'd be interested at talking with Overeem. And of course 'Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship' President David Feldman has said he's reached out to both. Now, ol Paulo Costa, for some reason, because you feel everyone had let it go. Well, he's still making up excuses for his title fight no show. Otherwise known as, 'excuse 20'. AND, we take a look at the 'UFC 259: Blachowicz vs Adesanya' weigh-in's. All three title fights are a GO and just one fighter missed weight, luckily not egregiously. Today's (ep 157) @ChinCheckPod breaks it all down, so let's get with it! - Alistair Overeem no longer a UFC fighter - Junior Dos Santos parts with the UFC - What next for Reem and JDS??? - Paulo Costa still making excuses!!! - UFC 259: Blachowicz vs Adesanya - weigh-in's *(Music) 'Anotha Round' by Tha Alkaholiks - 2010 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/eftv/message
With the third PPV of the year, and first of March, 'UFC 259' has to be the most impressive yet!!! Fithteen fights, with some intriguing storylines weaved within. Like Jake Matthews who has looked fantastic of late, with a real renewed focus to the game. But he's going in against the unbeaten Sean Brady who has looked like a beast! We then have the return of Kennedy Nzechukwu, who when he's on his game, seems to have a wealth of potential. He's standing across from 'Dana White's Contender Series' graduate and 'City Kickboxing' alum, Carlos Ulberg. And with the champ as his main training partner, you can't sleep on him because of the perception of inexperience! Joseph Benavidez and Dominick Cruz both have the opportunity to bounce back from their last fights and show the world they're still very much threats in the game. But their opponents have different narratives they wanna tell and next levels they wanna reach. Askar Askarov and Casey Kenney aren't here for the show money! And the card ends with the triple header!!! First up Aljamain Sterling hopes to cut down to size the man he calls 'Paper Champ'. And with his slick & funky BJJ skills, we could definitely be hearing a 'And New'. But, Petr Yan only just picked up the belt and has no plans of handing it over, to anyone! Megan Anderson will be looking to utilise her height & reach advantages and pull off something no one in the last seven years has been able to do! She'll be facing a lioness, and once uncaged, Amanda Nunes has looked pretty much unstoppable, beating the who's who of female MMA!!! THEN, we have the newly minted Light Heavyweight Champ Jan Błachowicz putting his belt on the line against the Middleweight Champ Israel Adesanya. So many questions, will experience play a part? Can speed over come power? Is the weight difference going to make any difference? Will we get a new 'Champ Champ' or 'And Still'! So, let's preview the upcoming action with today's (ep 156) @ChinCheckPod - UFC 259: Błachowicz vs Adesanya *(Music) 'Daaam!' by Tha Alkaholiks - 1995
We come out hot on this week's #EFTV as Harry & Megan telling Oprah "It's been hard leaving the Royal lifestyle, to just being filthy rich"! Then the continuation of rewriting the past is happening, as six Dr Seuss books are pulled from circulation! A @nike exec gets caught in a reselling situation, Taylor Swift gets angry cause someone has pointed out facts about her life AND @amazon bow to dumb social media and change their App logo Plus a LOT more!!! PLUS, we return to Netflix for the live action remake, and check out 'Fate: The Winx Saga'. Which goes into a world where fairies and magic are real. And those with the abilities often head to Alfea College to harness the skills. BUT, evil always lurks in dark places. AND, our Audible of the week, is a return to Octavia E. Butler's 'Xenogenesis trilogy' and the continuation of the story of Lilith Iyapo, the Oankali and survival of the human race, with 'Adulthood Rites'. This week: - Harry & Megan talk with Oprah in a tell all interview and the previews look ewwwww!!! - The Dr Seuss estate has decided to pull six of the books due to racial depictions - By 2030, Volvo will be fully electric! - Nike Exec caught in a family resale husstle! - Cinema release window argument continues to rage. - Taylor Swift butt hurt over line in Ginny & Georgia! - Amazon change App logo - Chin check REVIEWS & RECOMMENDATIONS - TV: Fate: The Winx Saga - Season One - thoughts AUDIBLE - Adulthood Rites by Octavia E. Butler *(Music) 'Contents Unda Pressure' by Tha Alkaholiks - 1997
In Miami, Avni Yıldırım challenged Canelo Alvarez for his WBC and WBA super middleweight titles. It seemed that he forgot the task though once he hit the ring. Because over three rounds, Yıldırım offered little to no offence and after Alvarez put him down in the third, one of his trainers called the fight before the fourth. Over in Las Vegas it was 'UFC on ESPN+ 44', which had been reduced to nine fights, as Angela Hill vs Ashley Yoder was postponed due to the COVID! Dustin Jacoby opened the card up against Maxim Grishin. And Jacoby's movement and workmate wore down Grishin and 'The Hanyak' walked away with a solid victory! One of the best performances of the night came in the second bout, Ronnie Lawrence put on one hell of a display against Vince Cachero. Both worked at a super fast pace throughout, but Lawrence was relentless with his diverse attack, eventually getting the sole finish of the night with a rear naked choke in the third! To close the Prelims, Thiago Moisés showed that now his stand-up is just as sharp & dangerous as his ground game! Opening up the Main card Alex Caceres had a dominant performance and got only his second four fight win streak. With the form Caceres has been showing, who knows when that streak will end!! Jimmie Rivera and Pedro Munhoz put on one hell of a rematch! With the shots that were going back & forth, it's surprising either were standing by the end of things. And that's not even taking into account the calf kicks Rivera ate. With Munhoz's win, anyone who tries to say they wouldn't watch a third in this series, is a liar!!! AND, the Main, well, it was a bit like 'Yıldırım vs Alvarez', with Ciryl Gane using his reach and Welterweight like movement to deliver and avoid damage over the five round fight. Gane didn't really deal with a lot coming back at him, and fought at one gear throughout, it seemed. He stays unbeaten and who knows what will be next, maybe Derrick Lewis. So, let's break it all down, in today's (ep 155) @ChinCheckPod - Canelo Alvarez vs. Avni Yildirim - UFC on ESPN+ 43: Blaydes vs Lewis *(Music) 'Best U Can' by Tha Alkaholiks - 2001

How many people in the music business can say they worked with Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep, Tha Alkaholiks, Xzibit and Big Pun and just go about their day all cool, calm and collected? Let the Record Show – the crate-dug interview series in which artists discuss their favorite songs of all time as the tracks spin on vinyl – continues its fourth season today with rapper / singer Dudley Perkins aka Declaime. Dudley recently released a new collaborative album with Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Georgia Anne Muldrow – who is also his wife – entitled G&D "Black Love and War". Hot off the heels of this release, Perkins sat down with longtime friends Mike Pizzo and Warren Peace to discuss some of his most influential cuts of all time. Heavily influenced by the funk, his selections span classic cuts that somehow all related back to one another. Vinyl rarities and oddities are shown, such as a 1978 Parliament picture disc, a double-cut/parallel groove De La Soul record, and a Slick Rick "The Great Adventures of..." anniversary edition, complete with eye-patch, the latter courtesy of Urban Legends/UMVD. While discussing his first appearance on wax on Tha Alkaholiks’ 1995 "Coast II Coast" LP, which found him rhyming alongside The Lootpack on “WLIX”, host Mike Pizzo surprises Dudley by producing a lost, unreleased demo EP of his on cassette, entirely produced by Madlib. The tape was put together by Pizzo and Perkins 22 years ago, complete with cover art made in Corel Draw. Dudley’s reaction is priceless. Originally released Feb. 2020.

Although he toured the world fronting garage-rock kingpins The Mistreaters in the early 2000's, Chris Schulist has never lost his affinity for the boom-bap style of 80's and 90's rap. Dope Folks Records -- a Milwaukee label he co-founded in 2010 with friend John Kuester -- is fueled by a passion for crate digging; Dope Folks primarily represses underground or deep cut 12" rap singles with minimalist packaging in limited quantities, even working with legendary acts like Black Sheep and Tha Alkaholiks. If that didn't keep him busy enough, Chris is also a partner in the popular Milwaukee restaurant The Vanguard (with fellow garage-rock veteran Jim McCann of the Baseball Furies), serving unique sausages and cocktails to everyone from WWE wrestlers to headlining comedians like Bill Burr to Chris' old pal Jack White. On today's show, Chris details how his uncle got him into record collecting, which Sesame Street record has the best bass lines, why Kiss makes it increasingly tough for their fans to stick with them, and much more. BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep 124! Don’t fret folks, we haven’t left! As we warned throughout the month of June, it was gonna be a tough July. DJ Jon Doe moved at the end of June / early July, and he’s been working fast and furious to get the family settled at the new place and get V4 of Dirty Blanket Studios up and running. Alas - he’s not QUITE there yet - so we hollered at The Wrecking Crew All Stars, who hold down WREK FM GA Tech Radio on Thursdays from 9-11pm with Techniques Radio. BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep 120! Fresh off a Memorial Day break last week, Meeks & Doe are back in the saddle wrangling up that raw like they always do on Tuesdays. This week is pretty darn special - not only does this weeks mix show episode number coincide with the infamous 120 Loop in Marietta - we also have Marietta’s own Kyle Lucas in studio for our Thursday interview session! On top of that, friend of Southern Vangard and special guest host, the one and only J57, also dropped by! Interview snippets are at the end of the mix, and the full interview will drop on Thursday. It’s quite an extravaganza, wouldn’t you agree? So without further delay, hit play and partake in that #smithsonian #grade #twiceaweek // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on #itunes #podcast #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud // #hiphop #rap #undergroundhiphop #DJ #mix #interview #podcasts #ATL #MARIETTA #WORLDWIDE Recorded live June 5, 2017 @ Dirty Blanket Studios, Marietta, GA southernvangard.com @southernvangard on #itunes #podcast #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud twitter/IG: @jondoeatl @southernvangard @cappuccinomeeks Inst. beds prod. Tonight was Adam's final appearance on the show. Most of the show's talk revolved around why this was happening, but we also found time to reminisce over nights gone by and play a few segments from past episodes including: Adam Norton vs. Tim Wong - Rap Battle The Adventures of Lethargy Man & Internet Kid Adam Sings in the Car!?! Also, Cici called in several times to play Who's Got the Mustard?, Darcy called in to defend Adam, and Julien played audio of John vomiting. This week THE ZRO HOUR salutes one of the illest groups in hip hop- THA ALKAHOLIKS. Tha Alkaholiks repped with party music full of crazy flows and banging production. After making an appearance on KING TEE's "Tha Triflin' Album", Tha Liks (J-Ro, Tash and E-Swift) released their first album "21 & Over" in 1993. As one of the first groups to sign with Loud Records, they were among the most influential groups to come out of that era as well as label mates with some of the finest in hip hop music including Big Pun, Wu-Tang and Mobb Deep. Their catalog consists of 5 albums with a couple of solo projects by Tash and J-Ro respectively. Tha Alkaholiks' emcee Tash calls in to talk about the formation of the Likwit Crew, studio sessions with Ol' Dirty Bastard and current tours. Tash also introduces me to rapper Black Silver and they speak on a new supergroup featuring Prince Po from Organized Konfusion! Enjoy the show! PLAYLIST DAAAM!
