The Cronulla Sharks fought back from a 10-0 start early in the first half to continue Parramattas' grand final hangover. The Sharks went on to win 30 to 26 and with the game so high-scoring, Cronulla five-eighth Matt Moylan told Andrew Moore that he thought they'd need to score more to hold on.
This week on ‘The Breakdown' we start by looking into the game between the Eels and Raiders. With the Raiders on a 5 match winning streak, this makes for an exciting game as the Eels are going into this match as the favourites, despite last weeks loss. We compare Dylan Brown and Jack Wighton in our player matchup for this game. We then look at Sharks vs Rabbitohs for our next match. The Rabbitohs will be full of confidence after knocking out one of their biggest rivals (Roosters) last week, whereas the Sharks will be trying to recover as quickly as possible from such a close loss to the Cowboys. Matt Moylan and Cody Walker make up our player matchup for this game. And to round out the show in ‘Rapid Fire', we discuss whether the Panthers or the Cowboys were more impressive in week 1 of the finals.
Vossy & Brandy are joined by The Captain's Run Cameron Smith and Morning Glory's Matty Johns to review the weekend of Rugby League and talk about all of the big issues in the game leading into the first week of the Finals.

Another huge episode this week as we celebrate our 12 month anniversary as a Network! Thank-you to all of our listeners that have supported us over the last year. This week in ‘the Breakdown' we preview all things Round 18 including the Friday night clash between the North QLD Cowboys and Cronulla Sharks. The Sharks have held their position in the top four for most of the season with some impressive performances under their rookie head coach Craig Fitzgibbon. Despite some up and down form over the past month, the Sharks have hit back off the back of some impressive moments from their recently re-signed half in Matt Moylan. While for the Cowboys they continue to impress after an understrength side put the Broncos to the sword before their Bye week. Who wins this top four clash? We also feature the Sydney Roosters as they take on the St George Illawarra Dragons. Both teams find themselves hanging on to their top 8 ambitions despite an up and down year. For the Dragons they currently sit in 9th position and will be desperate to get the win here. Dynamic centres Zac Lomax and Moses Suli will be looking to break the game open for the Red V. While for the Roosters they will be playing for the season as they currently sit in 10th position and are losing touch with the top 8. As the pressure mounts around the club, they will be looking to their forwards to the middle and give their talented outside backs greater opportunities. Which team wins, and will either side play finals football this year? And to round out the show in ‘Rapid Fire' we offer our picks for the remaining games and reveal our underdog tip of the week ~ Dan, Dana & Micki

Sharks 38Warriors 16The Warriors continue to go through the motions of a forgettable year.Like reruns of Friends, their season has gotten to a point where you know what's coming when you tune in. They're going to have moments where you think they could compete with the top six, but they're going to make unnecessary and, at times, inexcusable errors to invite pressure and concede cheap points.Their 38-16 loss to the Cronulla Sharks on Sunday night followed suit in their sixth straight defeat."We start good then we go to crap," Josh Curran told Sky Sport after the game. "We just need to put an 80-minute performance together."Everyone needs to transition. If we make an error, we need to go straight back into defence. But we're not doing that. We're just getting points put on us and, honestly, it's embarrassing."As usual, there were moments that caught the eye. Curran looked as though he hadn't missed a step in his return from injury, and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak executed a try put-down that we'll be seeing replays of for some time. But far more of those moments were negative. A passive first-half defence was exemplified by Shaun Johnson allowing Sharks winger Ronaldo Mulitalo to run the ball closer to the posts on the first of his two tries rather than make him put the ball down out wide. Fullback Reece Walsh had a forgettable night after running in the first try of the match and throughout the contest, their inability to slow down the Sharks play-the-ball and a few bad errors saw the Warriors take themselves out of the contest. In their first game under interim head coach Stacey Jones, the Warriors got off to a flying start and, to be fair, put on a much better display than last week's demolition by Manly. The Sharks started slow and thanks to a few ruck infringements and penalties, the Warriors were allowed to play the opening minutes in Sharks territory. And thanks to two moments of brilliance from Wayde Egan – one pinpoint pass to set up Walsh followed by a sneaky dart from dummy half – saw the Warriors lead by 12 inside as many minutes. Then things went predictably wrong. The Sharks hit back just two minutes after Egan's try – their first attacking chance in opposition territory – and the Warriors put the following restart out on the full. The Sharks ran in three tries in 10 minutes to take the lead, ultimately scoring five tries in the first half to take a 24-12 lead into the break.Again, the Warriors showed plenty of fight in the first 20 minutes of the second half while the Sharks staggered out of the blocks following the restart. After not getting the ball for what would have been a sure try moments earlier, Watene-Zelezniak took to the heavens to score a try out wide with a spectacular diving finish. The last time they played the Sharks, the Warriors didn't score a point in the second half. So, things were looking up – until the Sharks got going again. It took a try through wing Sione Katoa – initially ruled a no-try but overturned by the bunker after a long review – to get the Sharks going again, but just like in the first half, once they got started they were too much for the Warriors.Tries to Mulitalo, William Kennedy, and a final, length of the field effort from Katoa put the result to bed.Sharks 38 (Sione Katoa 3, Ronaldo Mulitalo 2, Siosifa Talakai, Matt Moylan, William Kennedy tries; Nicho Hynes 3 cons)Warriors 16 (Reece Walsh, Wayde Egan, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak tries; Walsh 2 cons)HT: 24-12- Christopher Reive, NZ HeraldSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Love seeing players look outside of the 4 walls at their club, Matt Moylan is getting on the front foot with his injuries and it has me excited. One of the most gifted ball players in the NRL, he just needs a good run of injury free footy. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Summer is coming and the Wests Tigers 2020 squad will soon be back into training, but who will be in that squad? That's one question we try to answer on this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast. We've had some confirmed Wests Tigers news confirmed recently, but not a lot has been going on - Chris Lawrence and Benji Marshall have both re-signed for another season and the club has again made a small profit off the field. But what of these rumours of guys like Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Matt Moylan, Zac Lomax and Kurt Capewell? Joel and Eddie discuss these rumours and the possiblity that they could be Tigers-bound. We also take a look at the just released 2020 NRL draw and how the Tigers fared in that. Download this edition of the podcast for a look back at the 2019 season, including our player scores for each 2019 Wests Tigers first grade player, and we name our best and worst games of the season too. And we get again into a discussion around the management of the Wests Tigers and the areas that we think could be improved. Don't miss this BIG edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

LISTEN TO CHAD TOWNSEND TALK WITH D'ARCY AND GORAN ABOVECronulla NRL halfback Chad Townsend believes Shaun Johnson is in for a culture shock when he moves to Sydney to join the Sharks following his bitter exit from the Warriors.Johnson is set to reunite in the halves with his former Warriors teammate next season, after he was granted a release from the Auckland-based club last week before signing a three-year contract with Cronulla.Townsend is looking forward to again teaming up with the Kiwis test star after the pair combined during his two-year stint at the Warriors between 2014 and 2015."We're very excited to have him on board and in our team," Townsend told D’Arcy and Goran."The biggest thing about Shaun is he's just a great bloke and someone I got on with really well while I had my time at the Warriors."We were able to hang out off the field and play a bit of golf, and around the sheds he's really easy going and a good bloke, and at the end of the day that's all you want."You want someone who's going to come in and put the team first and that's the type of player he is, so we're looking forward to having him here."But while Johnson practically owned the No 7 jersey and Townsend predominantly started at No 6 at the Warriors, the duo are now set for a role reversal, with the Cronulla local junior having settled in at halfback since he returned to the Sharks in 2016.After installing Matt Moylan at five-eighth this year, Townsend confirmed Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan is set to return the former Penrith captain to fullback to allow Johnson to play at No 6.It won't be a big adjustment however, as Johnson has always tended to play more like a five-eighth regardless of the number on his back, and Townsend, like Warriors playmaker Blake Green this season, was generally the side's main organiser."Our coaching staff will have a bit of a plan there and we've already briefly spoken about it, but we haven't gone into too much detail about numbers and things like that," he said."But at this stage I think Matt will shift to fullback which he's very familiar with so it's exciting times for our team."When asked how he felt about Johnson's shock departure from the Warriors, Townsend went into bat for the Sharks' new recruit while questioning the Warriors handling of the saga."I was pretty shocked actually [with] how it all unfolded. The timing of the Warriors announcement, in terms of them saying there was no contract for Shaun beyond next season, while he was overseas, I thought was a bit odd."But it's crazy how rugby league works and I never thought that he would've ended up at the Sharks."Having made the shift across the Tasman earlier in his career, the 27-year-old says Johnson will face a few challenges in his new surrounds."Any time you move country and to a different place that's foreign to you and you haven't had any experience of, is difficult. I can attest to that from when I moved to New Zealand."A new culture, new country, getting paid in a different currency, these are all things that Shaun's going to have to adapt to."After enjoying celebrity status throughout eight years at the Warriors, Johnson will initially enjoy relative anonymity in Cronulla, but Townsend predicts that won't last long."He'll be able to walk down Cronulla mall and probably no one will notice him at this stage. But as he gets into the community and gets his name out in the [Sutherland] Shire, people will warm to him for sure."However, he denies Johnson will have a difficult time dealing with the intense media scrutiny in Sydney, where league is the No 1 game in town."New Zealand media is pretty full-on, to be honest, but Sydney definitely is a rugby league hub."Obviously, a lot of focus is on the NRL here and especially with so many teams in Sydney, so he'll have to be on his best behaviour like the rest of us. But I have no doubt he'll handle the media and everything fine."The Sharks are known for their uncompromising play...
Rabbitohs' telling huddle after emotional week; Cam McInnes penalty was wrong; Matt Moylan's brilliance; and why the Panthers' season was a failure.
This week, the boys are back as the Storm and Roosters roll on, Matt Moylan kills a man, the Broncos rise into contention, the Dragons keep doing Mary things and someone's got Footy Club Dysmorphia. That, the news, questions, you know how we roll. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
BIG NEWS! Because our Kenta Shinohara podcasts were delayed we didn’t get around to covering a lot of important news from the past couple months. To remedy that, we decided to record a big news-focused podcast to get everyone up to speed! …This was a big bad idea. We accumulated nearly twelve pages worth of news, tallying to over one hundred stories in total! To make matters worse, we began recording late at night after I was already exhausted from drawing for nearly 20 hours that day. Thanks to a spotty internet connection, we ended up needing two recording sessions and over four hours of rough audio to cover everything we wanted to. Needless to say, recording this was a tiring process. You can definitely hear the exhaustion in my voice by the end of this podcast, alongside Colton’s groans of impatience. Though frankly, listening back to this episode I did most of the talking, so it’s kinda funny that Colton was more vocally upset by the experience. ^^, Regardless of how frustrating the process was, this was a necessary podcast to make. Discussing manga news is the reason this show originally came into being, and doing a purely news-focused episode brings us nostalgically back to the roots of our early episodes. Did we go a little overboard in the mountain of content we attempted to surmount? Perhaps. But hopefully you’ll find this podcast as valuable as we found these stories important to discuss. Manga Review for Street Fighter: Sakura Ganbaru! Volume 1 by Masahiko Nakahira. Translated by Michelle Hayashi and Rie Shibazaki. Adapted by Jim Zubkavich and Matt Moylan. Published by Udon for $12.95, size: 8.1 x 5.8 inches. Originally published in Japan by Shinseisha. 15-year-old Sakura Kasugane has a secret life outside of school that she doesn't want her parents to know about. She is a street fighter being trained by a martial artist from Hong Kong named Dan Hibiki. He originally came to Japan to study martial arts but he has become more and more intrigued by Sakura's natural talent when it comes to studying fighting techniques. All he has to do is show her a move and she can not only mimic it but incorporate her own personal styles to compliment it. Another student at her school, the heir to the vast Kazuki business empire, Karin Kazuki, is also a street fighter. Her ancestors were great warriors who lived by the motto "In all things, be victorious!" She has translated this belief into becoming the greatest street fighter in the city. She has no equal until she encounters Sakura, and then she sets all her energy into defeating her. I was never a big fan of the Street Fighter videogames, even though I remember when it was strictly a stand up arcade game. There was a time when Street Fighter 2 coming to the Sega Genesis was the biggest news this side of Halo 3. I bought the game and was decidedly underwhelmed by the experience, perhaps because my best friend could beat me easily. But I like the IDEA of the videogames and the design of its characters and I like a bit of fighting manga so I decided to give Sakura Ganbaru a shot. First up, the art is awful. Nakahira's characters all look a bit plump and the two main female leads look the opposite of feminine. Even when there's a panty shot, it feels like you're looking at a guy in his underwear because of Nakahira's lack of knowledge or total denial of the female body. I would even call the art a bit primitive. While the fights should have plenty of money shots, they mostly consist of blurred drawings with what look like small explosions signifying impacts. You really shouldn't have an artist that does poor fight panels doing a manga like Sakura. The personalities of the characters were interesting, if a bit colorless, but the art was just way too ugly. Has six color plates and some bonus pages taken from the Street Fighter Alpha manga showing how Sakura met Ryu. My Rating: C
