––– Kommentoi | Twitter | Instagram ––– - Daiz Twitterissä - Daizin luento DesucOnline 2020:ssa: Luin Sata Ranobea Vuodessa ja En Päätynyt Toiseen Maailmaan (YouTube) - Daizin luento Desutalks 2011:ssa: Anime ja kääntämisen kulttuuri - Erotiikkakustantaja Fakku ja sen sisarkustantajat, yleisempään mangasisältöön keskittyvä Denpa Books ja BL-painotteinen Kuma 04:34 – ISEKAI-GENREN ESITTELY - Slayers - Record of Lodoss War - Sorcerous Stabber Orphen - Scrapped Princess - Goblin Slayer - Danmachi: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? - Petterin isekai-artikkeli Anime-lehdessä 1/2019 (PDF) - Konosuba - So I'm a Spider, So What? - Do You Love Your Mom And Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? - Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Ascendance of a Bookworm 09:35 – MEIDÄN SUHTEEMME ISEKAIHIN - Sword Art Onlinen animesovitus alkoi 2012, kun isekai alkoi muodostua omaksi genrekseen mutta sanaa ei vielä juuri tunnettu lännessä - Steins;Gate - Chuunibyou demo koi ga shitai 19:40 – MODERNIN ISEKAIN SYNTY: NAROU-KEI - Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi - Digimon - The Vision of Escaflowne - Fushigi Yuugi - Inuyasha - Magic Knight Rayearth - Henkien kätkemä - The Familiar of Zero - Shousetsuka ni narou -sivusto - Lännestäkin löytyy tämäntyyppisiä, kuten Wattpad ja Royal Road - ANN:n artikkeli isekai-genren historiasta: Mushoku Tensei Is Not the Pioneer of Isekai Web Novels, But... 29:54 – RANOBEISTA YLEISESTI - Reki Kawaharan aiempi nettiromaani The Isolator julkaistiin kustantajan kautta vasta myöhemmin, kun Sword Art Online oli kerännyt suosiota - J-Novel Clubin Crest of the Stars -julkaisu - Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai - Oregairu - Haruhi Suzumiya - Spice & Wolf - Kino's Journey - Mangasplaining-podcastin Fullmetal Alchemist -jakso, jossa alun perin dissattiin ranobeja, mutta josta pahimmat asiattomuudet on sittemmin saksittu pois (keskustelu noin 11 minuutin kohdalla) 42:41 – NAROU-KEIN TYYPPIPIIRTEET: RUOKA JA KULTTUURI-IMPERIALISTISET PIIRTEET - Gate - Outbreak Company - Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody 47:43 – NAROU-KEIN TYYPPIPIIRTEET: PAKO ANKEASTA TODELLISUUDESTA - I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level - The Great Cleric 54:51 – NAROU-KEIN TYYPPIPIIRTEET: VOIMAFANTASIAT JA PÄÄHENKILÖKESKEISYYS - The Hero Is Over-Powered But Overly Cautious - Redo of Healer - Kun jälleensynnyin hirviönä - Overlord - How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom - Rising of the Shield Hero - Mapping: The Trash-Tier Skill That Got Me Into a Top-Tier Party - My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's - M×0, manga Pretty Facen tekijältä - My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! 01:15:21 – NAROU-KEIN TYYPPIPIIRTEET: TARINAN RAKENTUMINEN - Reincarnated as a Sword - I'm the Hero, but the Demon Lord's Also Me 01:23:15 – OTOME-ISEKAI - ANN: n artikkeli otome-isekaista: Welcome to the Isekai, Otome Game Villainesses - Kenkyo, kenjitsu wo motto ni ikite orimasu! - Obsessions of an Otome Gamer - I Refuse to Be Your Enemy - I'm in Love with the Villainess - Accomplishments of the Duke's Daughter 01:29:05 – ENGLANNINKIELISET RANOBEMARKKINAT - Spice & Wolfin länsijulkaisun alkuperäiset kannet yrittivät olla näyttämättä niin japanilaistyylisiltä kuin alkuperäiset (kuva) - …Kuten myös Haruhi Suzumiyan (kuva) - Seven Seasin ranobejulkaisunimike Airship - Yen Pressin ranobejulkaisunimike Yen On - Maaretin huono ensikosketus ranobeihin oli Kagerou Daze, joka toisti animetropeita liian kirjaimellisesti 01:37:19 – YHTEENVETO - Tearmoon Empire - The Devil Is a Part-Timer - Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon 01:45:00 – DAIZIN SUOSITUKSET - Ascendance of a Bookworm - Cooking with Wild Game - Reincarnated as a Sword - My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me! - So I'm a Spider, So What? 01:49:12 – YEN PRESS ALKAA JULKAISTA RANOBEJA ÄÄNIKIRJOINA - ANN: Yen Press Announces Yen Audio Imprint with 5 Novel Audiobooks - Yen Pressin tiedote asiasta - Äänijälki-podcastin jakso 4, jossa mietittiin eroa äänikirjan ja kuunnelman välillä - Monogatari-sarja 01:57:49 – KADOKAWA OSTI J-NOVEL CLUBIN - ANN: Kadokawa Corporation Acquires U.S. Publishing Company J-Novel Club - Kadokawan tiedote asiasta (pdf) - J-Novel Club - BookWalker, e-kirjapalvelu jonka Kadokawa omistaa - Joey The Anime Man, tubettaja jonka Kadokawa omistaa - Cross Infinite World (erikoistunut naisille suunnattuihin julkaisuihin) - Tentai Books 02:06:10 – KADOKAWAN VUOSIKERTOMUS - Kadokawan vuosikertomus 2020 (pdf) - Animea tuotetaan yli animeteollisuuden kapasiteetin, mutta Kadokawa ei siitä välitä - GeexPlus, Kadokawan omistama influensserifirma jonka palkkalistoilla mm. Hello Light Novel Podcast listeners! On this episode we are discussing the recent light novel licenses that were announced on Twitter and during the Anime Expo Lite online event. Black Lives Matter. Manga Mavericks stands in support of Black Americans and against the systemic racism and violence perpetrated by the police and the U.S. government. There are many ways to help the Black Lives Matter movement, be it engaging in the protests yourselves or by donating to those fighting on the front lines. We’ve included links in the description of this podcast for people to learn more about petitions to sign and places to donate. We’ve donated all of our Patreon earnings from this year and hundreds of our own dollars to Bail Funds and Charities supporting progressive movements for change across the country, and if you can give, we strongly encourage you to do so. Otherwise, you can even watch videos donating all their ad money to charities too. Again, there are many ways to help, and every bit counts. To quote a great moment from The Boondocks: "What do you do when you can't do nothing, but there's nothing you can do?" "You do what you can." In that spirit, we’re also supporting and amplifying Black creatives in our community. We’ll be leaving links to them and their work, and links of where to find other great Black creatives doing great work in this community. Please check all these fine folks out. We’ll also be leaving links to organizations, charities, and petitions to help support Black Lives Matter protests and victims of police brutality. There’s another tragic bit of news we also must address: Zac Bertschy passed away on the week of May 19th, 2020. Zac was the executive editor in chief at Anime News Network, overseeing its editorial department. He was the host of ANNcast, the writer of Vice and Luna, and the original Answerman. He was always, in my eyes, the face, voice, and heart of Anime News Network. We’ll be leaving links to various people’s tributes and memories of Zac, including the final ANNcast, and links to some of the work of his I really appreciated over the years, including Answerman, ANNcast, Vice & Luna, his reviews of Death Parade and Keep Your Hands off Eizouken, and many others. There’s so much to say about Zac Bertschy and the legacy he’s left. But right now, there’s just one thing that I must say: Rest in Peace, Zac. See you over the rainbow. This is a news episode that was delayed and made sort of out of date because of the above stories and others that happened almost immediately after we recorded it in mid-May. Please keep that in mind as you listen through that there’s a lot of parts re-recorded or added on after the fact. That said, we had a lot to cover, including the endings of some popular series, new license announcements, COVID-related delays, Netflix additions, and the titular question on everyone’s mind: Who Did Sesshomaru FUCK?! There’s plenty of news we don’t cover in this episode we’ll get to in a future installment, but it’s good to break these things up anyway lest we have another four-hour long podcast. You can be sure that this will also not be the last time we discuss Black Lives Matter and have conversations on important political and social topics on the show either. What’s going on matters way more than any of the manga we talk about, so while we hope to entertain with our podcast, we also want to make sure we don’t distract from what’s going on in the world and are amplifying voices and causes that matter. Hello there Light Novel Podcast listeners! Welcome to another episode. This time the Light Novel Podcast is covering the new licenses for English release that were announced at the end of April. There are titles from J-Novel Club, Seven Seas, Cross Infinite World, and Tentai Books! In total, ten new light novel series were announced! […]
To say times are rough would be an understatement. The pandemic has infected the anime and manga industry, affecting the production and release of several anime and manga titles. It has even taken down several once-though indomitable cons this year, including SDCC and Anime Expo. So, naturally, we’ve got to talk about all the stuff that’s either been delayed or outright canceled. Which is a real downer, man. Yet, even this pandemic can’t slow down the fast-paced world of manga, so we’ve got tons of serialization and licensing news to talk about as well. Plus, we’ve got some lighter fare including the likes of a list of manga people want to see animated, which includes a surprisingly goofy choice that I’m disappointed isn’t even Goofy-er! We’ve even thrown in a mini-review of the newest Jump series Moriking in the middle of this discussion too! So even though we’ve got some bummer news to talk about, hopefully, you’ll find this episode a humorous and hopeful romp through the latest goings-on in the always lively manga industry! On this episode of Manga Mavericks, Colton and Lum are joined by quite possibly their biggest guest yet! As they have the chance to sit down and chat with longtime translator of manga and video games, as well as the CEO of Irodori Comics himself, On Takahashi! Originally this interview was supposed to be an opportunity to discuss titles from the company's newest line of all ages doujinshi known as Irodori Aqua, but unfortunately, On spent most of our time talking about other amazing things, such as his unlikely journey in becoming a professional translator, as well as a breakdown on how much most manga artists typically make off of their work, and for that, we humbly apologize (lol)!! But seriously, we can't thank On enough for taking the time to come on our show and we hope have him on again in the future! Until then, please support Irodori Comics and their work, as well just your favorite artists in general in whatever way you can! Enjoy! Enjoy! Next time, we'll going over the results of our annual Manga Mavericks survey, as well as catching up on all the cool new manga that have started simulpubbing recently! On Thursday, July 18th, a devastating fire burned down Kyoto Animation’s 1st Studio Building, claiming the lives of 35 people and hospitalizing 33 more. The human costs of this tragedy are unfathomable and the damage done to the studio is immeasurable. We stand together with KyoAni in their time of need, and want to do our part in spreading the word to fans on how to help the studio and its staff. For our Community Shout-Outs this week, we’ve compiled a list of resources that you can use to donate to the studio and reflections from the fandom that celebrate the legacy of KyoAni, its staff, and their stories. Please take the time to read each of these pieces and, if possible, take part in the efforts to send love KyoAni’s way. Anime Expo was so packed with news and events that it’s taken us a month and two podcasts to cover it all! In this first installment of our AX coverage, we spend over two hours simply discussing all the exciting announcements made at Anime Expo, from long-awaited licensing announcements to new projects by legendary artists like Katsuhiro Otomo and Yoshitaka Amano! Then, we take a trip back in time to share a podcast we recorded pre-AX, discussing our impressions of the then-upcoming convention and what we did on Day 0. This includes VLord’s thoughts on the LA premiere of Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer and a couple of other panels live-streamed from Petree Hall! If you think this podcast is lengthy, well, just wait until the next episode, where we’ll discuss our entire AX experience in an episode that’s over four hours long! Until then, get a taste of how exhausting AX is by listening to this extensive episode! 2019 marks the centennial anniversary of the Yuri genre, celebrating 100 years of girls in love challenging the expectations placed upon them by patriarchal definitions of love and gender. To commemorate the legacy of the genre and the stories that’ve been told, we interviewed Erica Friedman, a Yuri historian and tastemaker who has been at the center of the fandom for over two decades. Erica is the founder of Yuricon, an organization dedicated to uniting the community through fan events and scholarship, and has written extensively on Yuri on her blog Okazu, which has reached its 4000th post after over 16 years! Erica’s planning an incredible number of events to celebrate 100 Years of Yuri with the community, including numerous convention appearances and a Yuri pilgrimage in Japan in the fall, all leading up to the release of her comprehensive book on Yuri set to come out in 2020! We chat with Erica about the work she’s done growing a proactive community around Yuri, the history of the genre and its fan culture, the influence of digital comics in helping newer creators and more untraditional stories to get published, and how we’ve reached a point where these stories can be spread more widely thanks to the efforts of trailblazers who fought to create a space for those who came after them to work in and expand. Like the pun in Okazu’s namesake, we hope our interview serves as an appetizer before you enjoy the full buffet of information out there about yuri and the works themselves! Our conversation with Erica is the first of an entire month of interviews with manga industry professionals about their work and fandom. Up next will be our interview with Joey Weiser, the award-winning comic book artist and creator of the Mermin series, who joins us to discuss his new book Ghost Hog (available NOW!) and the influence that manga and japanese culture have had on his work. ANOTHER news-only episode?! What is this, 2016? Don't worry folks, we'll have series to cover and topics to discuss very soon! We've been listening to your feedback and we'll be implementing some changes that we think you'll be really happy with starting from the next episode onwards. We're committed to bringing on more guests and talking about more than shonen series, not just other manga, but discussion-forum episodes on important topics that deserve a thorough dialogue. We've got a lot of plans, and here's hoping we'll be able to follow through on some of them before the year's out! For now, it's just the two of us and the news, but it's quite a crop of news! We've got an MHA-dominated Bookscan list, new simulpubs at Crunchyroll, a Promised Neverland character popularity poll, and a whole lot more to cover! Listen and be entertained as Colton tries to blindly guess who the top ten most popular Promised Neverland characters are after not having read the series for a couple months. He didn't even know the Nameless Man is now named! On this episode of Manga Mavericks, we manage to record an episode before Sid joins Vlord to head out to Los Angeles for Anime Expo! Which means we didn’t have much time to dedicate to getting ready for another long series discussion, but we did sit down to talk about our first impressions of Hiro Mashima’s first chapter of Eden’s Zero! We discuss why we think the first chapter of this new series is already a lot better executed then most of Fairy Tail and where we hope the series goes in the future, but not before we talk about our fair share of news! Including a list of the top selling media franchises in Japan in 2018 so far, Tite Kubo’s upcoming new one shot, and Seven Seas’ biggest LGBTQ manga license to date! We’re taking a short break from Shonen Jump-related podcast to talk about a creator celebrating a special 50th anniversary milestone – Go Nagai! 2018 is the 50th year of the legendary mangaka's career, and he’s seen a resurgence of popularity thanks to a slew of new anime based on his works like Mazinger Z: Infinity, Cutie Honey Universe, and most famously, Devilman Crybaby! To celebrate Go Nagi’s legacy and the renaissance of his work in the anime community, we’re discussing the original Devilman manga, recently released in the U.S. for the first time in a beautiful hardcover edition courtesy of Seven Seas! Joining us is our good friend and devilishly handsome Go Nagai devotee Josh Dunham, host of Senpai Coast to Coast of co-founder of Wave Motion Cannon! We go over Go Nagi’s career, what inspired him to write Devilman, and how his personal demons may have carried over into his work. Josh provides a ton of wonderful insight on the chaotic, anarchic mind of Nagai, making for one of our best analytical discussion so far! This podcast has literally been two years in the making – we’ve been planning to do a Devilman podcast with Josh since we first had him on the show all the way back in July 2016, so it’s exciting to see it finally come to fruition! Sit back and listen as we explore the macabre world of Devilman and gleam as many insights we can from its dark and twisted world. But first, we’ve got our usual news roundup to go through! We discuss the Oricon Top Selling Manga list, which has some surprising series making it on to the top ten! Then, we discuss the deaths of several manga magazines in print, and speculate whether this trend heralds the end for manga magazines in general. Plus we discuss a lot of new manga, new licenses, and new anime that we’re really looking forward to! BIG NEWS! Because our Kenta Shinohara podcasts were delayed we didn’t get around to covering a lot of important news from the past couple months. To remedy that, we decided to record a big news-focused podcast to get everyone up to speed! …This was a big bad idea. We accumulated nearly twelve pages worth of news, tallying to over one hundred stories in total! To make matters worse, we began recording late at night after I was already exhausted from drawing for nearly 20 hours that day. Thanks to a spotty internet connection, we ended up needing two recording sessions and over four hours of rough audio to cover everything we wanted to. Needless to say, recording this was a tiring process. You can definitely hear the exhaustion in my voice by the end of this podcast, alongside Colton’s groans of impatience. Though frankly, listening back to this episode I did most of the talking, so it’s kinda funny that Colton was more vocally upset by the experience. ^^, Regardless of how frustrating the process was, this was a necessary podcast to make. Discussing manga news is the reason this show originally came into being, and doing a purely news-focused episode brings us nostalgically back to the roots of our early episodes. Did we go a little overboard in the mountain of content we attempted to surmount? Perhaps. But hopefully you’ll find this podcast as valuable as we found these stories important to discuss. From lists to licenses, endings to sequels, controversies to scandals, and adaptations to anime this podcast is jam-packed with all the stories you need to know to understand where the manga industry is at as of Spring 2018! Rounding off our My Hero Academia podcast trilogy is this long-awaited Q&A special! We received so many questions for our Manga Fight we couldn't possibly use them all, so we organized this special episode to answer them! Both Jeff Ruberg and Doctor return to give their takes on your questions, and what results is the realization that all podcasters are evil, Stain is best girl, Mineta should make a Spirit Bomb out of sticky balls, and lots of lucrative ideas for ScrewAttack! Before we get to all that we have to cover the news first, but because Colton abandoned the podcast to go to Anime St. Louis to buy cigarettes, I had to find another co-host for the week. Thankfully, that scumbag VLordGTZ just happened to be in the room so I pulled him over, sat him down, and forced him to talk about the latest happenings in the manga industry for fourty-five minutes. We discuss how confusing Yu-Gi-Oh! is now, dance on Fairy Tail's grave, and speculate on the Attack on Titan/Madagascar crossover that is totally definitely going to happen one day. We close off talking about a list of japanese readers' favorite Shonen Jump mangaka. Did MHA's Kohei Horikoshi make the list? Listen and find out!
