These primary colour flatland print objects are growing up. They have kids now. Responsibilities lacking in youth. Time slips away from them, leaving past triumphs in the past. Tradition spurs them forward. Tradition and the perpetual threat that one day the status quo will no longer suffice to push units. Ask yourself who benefits. Thank you to Austin for sponsoring this stream in which I discuss the comic book Promethea by Alan Moore. This comic is filled with magic symbolism and centers around spiritual possession which coincides with the actual magic practice of the author Alan Moore. OK, let's get it out of the way early: J.H. Williams III is an amazing artist with an equally amazing name. From his early work on Deathwish, Shade, and Chase, you might get an inkling that there's something special going on. But then, after two Elseworlds projects (Justice Riders and Son of Superman), J.H. blew our minds with a 32 issue run on Promethea with Alan Moore. Changing sizes, media, colors, formats, it was a defining statement of what a comic book could look like. More groundbreaking projects followed, including a run on Detective Comics focused on Batwoman that won a GLAAD Media Award, and Sandman: Overture, another magnum opus. He's now working on Echolands, an original story told in a widescreen format. You can follow J.H. on Twitter and Instagram @JHWilliamsIII.______________________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you liked this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. On this episode, J.H. Williams III (Sandman Overture, Promethea, Batwoman, Batman, Desolation Jones, Blondie, The Sword) returns to the show after the release of the first volume of his series Echolands from Image Comics. Our first conversation happened after Issue 1 which only gave us a brief glimpse into the world he co-created with W. Haden Blackman (Star Wars, Elektra). The team is once again joined by the legendary Dave Stewart on colors and the GOAT Todd Klein. In a bizarre future world that has forgotten its history, a reckless thief, Hope Redhood, holds the key to excavating its dark, strange past—if only she and her crew can escape a tyrannical wizard and his unstoppable daughter. But fate will send them all on a path leading to a war between worlds. Echolands is a landscape format, mythic-fiction epic where anything is possible—a fast-paced genre mashup adventure that combines everything from horror movie vampires to classic mobsters and cyborg elves, to Roman demigods and retro rocket ships. It's full of things you know spun in an entirely new way. With this interview Dan and J.H. were able to really dive deeper into the world and its inspirations. The discussed quotes as a form of inspiration to them as creators. Williams got a bit in depth on each of the different parts of the world of Echolands including Horror Hill which Dan was eager to learn much more about. Dan talks about their discussion of Cor in the first episode and why the character is important for him and others. Both of their minds spent some time in the gutters... no not those gutters weirdos... the gutters of the page itself to discuss how it can effect the art and story on page physically. They also once again talk about music and specifically Lizzo. Echolands Vol 1 is out now wherever comics are sold in a hardcover format. This is the series you want to read physically to truly absorb all of the feeling of holding the abnormal formatting. Read our review here!

As they continue to investigate the Captain's access corridor, the party eventually emerge into the various self-contained rooms which house Promethea's arcanomechanical engines, boilers, and gears. What discoveries await in these small rooms? What's the perfect way to hide a body? Are the party expected to investigate the entire Floating City for a small group of people - is this even feasible? ALL THESE QUESTIONS AND MORE! After deciding to split up for investigations, the party then decide NOT to split up after all, and search together through the small service corridor Meri discovered on the projected map. Along the way, there's some totally inconspicuous NPC behaviour and some new areas to investigate, but the fight to save Promethea has only just begun... As the party regroup from splitting again and subsequently encountering an enormous air elemental, they update Gunnark and the NPCs on happenings from above, before studying the map of Promethea and making plans to... split the party... again... Join us as we briefly time-skip backwards to see what Seth did during their journey to the Temple of the Gods to seek answers. Enjoy the moving scenes of their communion with the Raven Queen, before we slooooow things down for a morning of calm before the storm with Meri, Seth, Kuijo and the Keepers inside the Companion's Guild. Gerald tells one of the best stories in the history of stories. It's official. Meri said so. We also head back to Promethea for a bit of insight into Gunnark and Ethan's sleepless night. Return now to The Forge as Meri undergoes the surgery necessary to attach an arcanomechanical prosthetic to her new stump! In the meantime, Ethan and Gunnark settle down in the cargo hold of Promethea, guarding the box, and engage in a deep discussion, learning new things about each other - even becoming privy to new decisions. As the discussion comes to an end, they make some interesting discoveries... Return, once more, to the cargo hold of Promethea where we investigate the large metal box discovered previously! As the team investigate the box, Meri does some searching of nearby boxes and sends her little spider minions to do her bidding and assist her in finding the shinies. The crew begin to turn to their Gods to look for answers, and even Gunnark hears a strange voice that appears to be connected to his powers... As the investigation continues further, Meri discovers a variety of magic auras, prompting a reveal of exactly who the Keepers are and what they're doing aboard Promethea, before the party splits (AGAIN) into two groups for the night. After a 2 month-long break, the Immortals crew finally reunite on the deck of Promethea (unfortunately, sans Yuri due to work commitment - solo episode to follow ;) ) to find answers to their questions - what were the keys the Keepers held? Why do they have them? What happens if Promethea should fall? What sort of defences are available? Has Captain Sigmund ever seen any evidence of a large cube-like the one the party found at The Circle?
