Chicago has birthed some of the most prominent pop-punk bands in the scene. You have Fall Out Boy, Knuckle Puck, Action/Adventure, and Belmont just to name a few. I wonder if there is a correlation between the deep dish pizza and the music? Either way, Fluorescents is following in their footsteps as one of the next bands to be on the rise. Tyler joins us to give some insight into when we can expect new music, and what his favorite music releases were of 2021.
Oh, Chicago. So many great things have come out of the 312. Kanye West, Rise Against, Soulja Boy, Midwest FurFest (Yep, google it), the list goes on and on. Well, the list just added another band to the roster, please welcome this week's guest Sasquel and Tyler of Fluorescents! Listen in as we discuss the new record "Ultraviolet", the power of DIY, and goodbye emo? Chris flirts with the idea of joining Team Pop Punk. New age Chicago pop-punkers Action/Adventure went viral in 2020 for their polarizing TikTok that highlights critics and their prejudiced stereotypes when it comes to the way their music is “supposed” to sound. After 1.3 million views and counting, the world is starting to give Action/Adventure, as well as the elite Chicago scene, the attention they rightfully deserve. As a result of their recent success, AA just announced that they have officially inked a deal with Pure Noise Records. Brompton's Band Recommendations: Honey Creek, High Wire, Tiny Kingdoms, joyful., Wolf Rd, The Day After, The Splits, Erabella, Four Stars, Fluorescents.

My Summer Lair host Sammy Younan interviews director and co-writer Daniel Warth and actress Naomi Skwarna of Dim the Fluorescents. My Summer Lair Chapter #68: What Is Dim the Fluorescents? Recorded: December 5, 2017 5:30pm
Dim the Fluorescents is finally opening in Toronto, so here’s co-star Claire Armstrong on the subtle, potent notes of Never Let Me Go, Mark Romanek’s eerily calm adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s disquieting novel about lifelong friends with a very specific destiny. Your genial host Norm Wilner is glad to bring this one back into circulation.
So, I meet this kid, Daniel Warth, who wants to be a filmmaker. He’s about eight-years old. His Dad works at TVO the same time I was producing and hosting Saturday Night at the Movies. I had to admit, for an eight-year old (even if he had been forty) this kid knew his movies. Years later, I get an email from Daniel Warth asking if I wanted to take at look at his film, Dim the Fluorescents which just took Slamdance by storm. Yep…Daniel Warth is now twenty-something with a hit independent film to show for his film enthusiasm. Naturally, I begged him to come on TMAY, and he does making this episode of TMAY something very special indeed.
What to do with a stack of Stax (Lay’s, that is) and a stack of knowledge about casinos? Try your luck with this episode, where we lay it all on the line. We are joined by filmmaker Daniel Warth (Dim the Fluorescents) to discuss everything, stacks, Stax, chips, and chips, and we find out Zoë’s special talent. Mindfreak, c’est chic. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
As Dim the Fluorescents has its second screening at Slamdance, co-star Naomi Skwarna stands up for the complex, messy humanity of Kenneth Lonergan’s Margaret — and all of Lonergan’s work, really, which is why this episode includes sweves into You Can Count on Me and Manchester By the Sea. Your genial host Norm Wilner is up for it.
This week on the show, Adam and Kevin take a look at the 2017 Slamdance Film Festival with reviews of Withdrawn, Dim the Fluorescents, Dave Made a Maze, Kuro, Strad Style, Brad Cuts Loose, and Plena Stellarum. You’ve been good and you deserve a special Friday episode, so here’s Dim the Fluorescents director Daniel Warth — who’ll be in Park City for its Slamdance world premiere tomorrow night — on John Cassavetes’ 1984 swan song Love Streams. Your genial host Norm Wilner can’t believe this is the show’s 100th episode. Where did the time go?
In the 1980’s compact fluorescent light bulbs hit the market, but the now familiar spiral shaped bulbs may soon become a fad of the past.
