Dr. Ben Skutnik, PhD, CSCS*D, NSCA-CPT*D, is an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Human Performance Lab Director at Butler University and Head of Nutrition Coaching at Power Athlete. Dr. Ben Skutnik joins the show to separate fact from fad in aerobic training, debunking zone 2 hype and explaining why VO2 max matters but isn't everything. Expect to learn why reading scientific literature is its own skill, how uncontrolled variables quietly derail hypertrophy and menstrual-cycle training research, why treating people as fragile backfires, why anecdote in human performance often outruns the research, how "closing the loop" with clients beats chasing mechanisms, what the Norwegian 4x4 method gets right (and what most zone 2 research gets wrong about training zones), and how to actually build VO2 max with the critical power model, and much more. In this episode of the Flex Diet Podcast, I sit down with my friend Kristi Storoschuk, a PhD candidate in exercise physiology, to unpack her review paper on zone 2 cardio and what the evidence actually shows. We dig into what “zone 2” really means (including lactate thresholds and why common proxies like heart rate and the talk test can miss the mark), where the 80/20 endurance model came from, and why messaging around zone 2 for mitochondrial function, fat oxidation, metabolic flexibility, and health may be overstated, especially for the general population. Kristi explains why higher intensities often produce equal or better mitochondrial and performance-related adaptations, how training volume and population context change the conversation, and where low-intensity work like walking may still fit. How many times have you heard it: “Just pay more than the minimum and you'll be fine.” Sure—if you've got a small balance. But if you're sitting on $80,000+ in credit card debt, that advice can turn into a slow-motion financial disaster. In this episode, Steve Rhode (the original Get Out of Debt Guy) and Damon Day break down the minimum payment trap with real numbers—how “doing the responsible thing” can still mean decades of payments, massive interest, and the kind of burnout that makes people quit right before progress shows up. We also dig into the high-income trap: when you can afford the payments, but they quietly destroy your future by stealing your cash flow, your investing years, and your peace of mind. You'll hear why conventional advice (beans, rice, and brute-force willpower) often collapses in real life… and why the smarter move is choosing the right tool for the job—whether that's a better payoff strategy, a negotiated plan, or (yes) understanding when bankruptcy is a realistic option instead of a scary myth.Want to keep up with the latest debt news Steve's covering during the week? "Authoritarianism thrives when people are isolated and dependent — when food, energy, housing and safety are controlled by a handful of elites. But when communities feed each other, house each other, teach each other and protect each other — they are less dependent on dominant systems, which allows them to mount a more effective resistance. Such communities, then, don't just survive. They become ungovernable by any unjust governing body, regardless of who is in power. Not every system can be fixed. But every broken system is an opportunity to build something better. Because once you build it yourself — you never have to ask permission again." - Barbara PetersonThe Sources:Barbara Peterson's Article: https://wagingnonviolence.org/2025/05/building-alternatives-key-counter-authoritarianism/See if local actions are happening near you: https://www.mobilize.us/Indivisible is doing some cool work + has great action items: https://indivisible.org/couphttps://indivisible.org/resourcesWe should be calling our representatives (+ reminding them they work for us): https://5calls.org/GET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. This episode is brought to you by Cozy Earth, LMNT, and Lumebox. There's no denying that birth control has given women greater freedom and control over their fertility. However, many young girls and women have been on birth control for decades without fully understanding the long-term effects of hormone-altering medication. Today's guest shares her research on birth control and provides key insights into its potential impact on long-term health and wellness. Today on The Dhru Purohit Show, Dhru sits down with Dr. Sarah Hill to discuss the impact of birth control on women's health and brain function. Dr. Hill shares her personal journey with birth control and how it led her to research this topic. She reveals what her findings say about the long-term effects of birth control on the brain and explores alternative options for women. She also explains why informed consent should include comprehensive education on birth control's potential impacts. Dr. Hill discusses her hopes for the future of women's health and highlights the research still needed to provide women with accessible, well-informed options for managing their health and fertility. Dr. Sarah Hill earned her PhD in evolutionary psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied under Dr. David Buss. She is currently a researcher and professor at TCU, the lead research advisor at 28, and a recognized thought leader in women's hormones and sexual psychology. Her groundbreaking research has led to nearly 100 research publications. She is also the author of This Is Your Brain on Birth Control, which sheds critical new light on the psychological impact of women's sex hormones and the birth control pill. Her upcoming book, The Period Brain, is set for release in September. In this episode, Dhru and Dr. Hill dive into: What Dr. Hill noticed after stopping birth control (00:25) The long-term impact of taking birth control (4:08) The benefits of birth control for women's rights (12:20) The lack of fully informed consent in birth control decisions (16:06) Using birth control as a prescription for period problems (21:06) What happens to your brain on birth control (27:18) How birth control influences partner choice (38:15) The possible link between autoimmunity and birth control (44:15) Recommendations for young women considering birth control (51:15) Alternatives to birth control (54:15) The research we still need on birth control (59:25) Dr. Hill's hope for more options for women (1:05:15) Also mentioned in this episode: Dr. Hill's book This Is Your Brain on Birth Control: The Surprising Science of Women, Hormones, and the Law of Unintended Consequences For more on Dr. Hill, follow her on Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, and her Website. On Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 Dr. Roger McFillin was interviewed by Dr. Nikki Johnson, a pediatrician and the Director of FAIR (Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism) in Medicine for a live webinar event. The webinar, titled "Informed Consent and SSRIs Revisited: Side Effects and Treatment Alternatives," tackles one of the most pressing issues in mental healthcare today. It was too important to not get out on a podcast episode. Medical freedom and Informed consent are one of the most pressing issues of our time. The Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism ("FAIR")is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to challenging threats to civil liberties from identity-based practices. As an organization committed to promoting honest scientific discourse and defending medical freedom, FAIR is uniquely positioned to facilitate these crucial conversations. During this live webinar, Dr. McFillin and Dr. Johnson explored critical questions about SSRI medications that often go undiscussed: What are the full range of side effects? What alternative treatments exist? How has industry influence shaped our understanding of these medications? Most importantly, what information do patients need for genuine informed consent? The Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism ("FAIR") WebsiteYoutube video of the Live Webinar RADICALLY GENUINE PODCASTDr. Roger McFillin / Radically Genuine WebsiteYouTube @RadicallyGenuineDr. Roger McFillin (@DrMcFillin) / XSubstack | Radically Genuine | Dr. Roger McFillinInstagram @radicallygenuineContact Radically GenuineConscious Clinician CollectivePLEASE SUPPORT OUR PARTNERS15% Off Pure Spectrum CBD (Code: RadicallyGenuine)10% off Lovetuner click here—-----------FREE DOWNLOAD! We all know about FOMO, or the Fear Of Missing Out. We're scrolling through our social media feeds, and there it is: post after post of a friend who's somewhere exotic, having a great time, or at an exciting new job… and we're not. We can't help but compare our lives with people who seem to be doing so much more. The result can be an uptick in anxiousness, distress, grinding to “keep up” and sometimes FOMO can even stop us from taking action…that feeling of being overwhelmed. FOMO – the acronym and the idea – really struck a nerve in the social media age. Not only is it now in the Merriam Webster dictionary, but it's spawned a whole slew of related acronyms: FOBO (Fear of Better Options), JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) and even inspired me to coin the term FOPO, the Fear Of People's Opinions.Today on the podcast is writer and entrepreneur Patrick McGinnis, who invented the term FOMO back in the early 2000s. He did it flippantly, but then the idea took off, and he's been owning it and studying it ever since.Patrick has come up with a way of looking at our fear of missing out, how to train ourselves to work with it, and even use it – in positive ways – to really go after the things we want and elevate our lives. It's a fascinating story, a unique perspective on modern culture, and a great way of using this “negative” idea and turning it into a tool for better living. In the spirit of FOMO... you DO NOT want to miss this one :)With Fire,MG-----WATCH this episode on our YouTube channel.Connect with us on our Instagram.Order my book, "The First Rule of Mastery" HERE!For more information and shownotes from every episode, head to findingmastery.com.To check out our exclusive sponsor deals and discounts CLICK HERESee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Truly an honor to have him on this podcast. I hope you take something great away from this one. If you do, share it with a friend and let us know what you liked! It's a common story that always comes with unique challenges. But at its core, there's a limit to how long you can underserve your clients. Because even if they don't know better, you certainly do, and rate increases taste different with nowhere to go. That's when your path to independence might start to illuminate and a new customer experience takes form. Ivan Hudson, Owner of the Ivan Hudson Agency, talks about his journey finding a place to stand on his own.

Locked On Chargers - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Chargers
It's Draft day for the Los Angeles Chargers and Daniel and David feel like they know who the pick will be at 21. Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer seems like the safe pick in round one, but that doesn't mean it would be the best choice. The guys discuss why the would be ecstatic for Zay Jones or Nolan Smith if they make it to them, and other players they would still be very happy with. How could you be mad at adding Bijan Robinson? There are also some players like Lukas Van Ness and Trenton Simpson that should be on the do not draft list for Los Angeles in round one. After all of the film and mock drafts the hosts get into their biggest draft crushes in the 2023 class. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BetterHelpThis episode is sponsored by BetterHelp.
