Freemasonry, an ancient brotherhood steeped in symbolism and tradition, has a fundamental requirement for membership: a belief in the immortality of the soul. This concept lies at the heart of Masonic philosophy, but why? Bro. Angel Millar, author and editor of the Fraternal Review from the California Lodge of Research, joins me as we ask what does it mean for a Freemason to affirm the immortality of the soul, and how does this belief shape their journey within the fraternity?Show Notes:Visit Angel Millar onlineFollow the Craftsmen Online Podcast on Spotify Subscribe to the Craftsmen Online Podcast on Apple Podcasts Visit the Craftsmen Online website to learn more about our Reading Room, New York Masonic History section, and see our Lafayette Bicentennial Events Calendar!Get our latest announcements and important updates in your inbox with the Craftsmen Online Newsletter Email the host, RW Michael Arce! A little over eighteen months ago, we published the first issue of the Fraternal Review dedicated to “Fringe Masonry.” There, we provided a basic overview of esoteric Orders (from the Egyptian Rite of Freemasonry to the Asiatic Brethren) that claim, in one way or another, to connect to regular Freemasonry. In this, the second issue dedicated to the subject, we have gone deeper into ritual and the “magical” methods of non-Masonic esoteric Orders, especially where they have borrowed from the Masonic Craft.
Since becoming the Editor-in-Chief of Fraternal Review almost two years ago, Bro. Angel Millar has aimed, with the help of guest editors, to explore some of the more unusual ways in which Freemasonry connects to culture. In this episode, we preview the October issue of the Fraternal Review and the research on Masonic ritual and modern science.>>> Show Links:Start your FREE 7-day trial of our Patreon membership and get an early & ad-free listening experience, plus a subscriber extra episode with Bro. I read an article from Super Strength Training called "K.I.S.S" and then I relate this to Freemasonry and your lodge. At the gym, you start to get some results and then you begin to calculate that if you're getting this kind of results then if you work out more you'll get even more results. Does this actually work? Then I apply this mentality to Freemasonry and lodge life and the parallels between the two. I tell you why I've been absent from podcasting. It's not what you think. Finally, I open an envelope I received from Southern California Research Lodge, thank you Dago, and reveal what was in it. All I can say is Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. The Three Principal Tenets - Fraternal Review Gift Collection $55.00 Limited Edition Collector's Set – Only 300 sets in existence! Whence Came You? - Freemasonry discussed and Masonic research for today's Freemason
This week, we look at why a Masonic “Lodge” is also referred to as a “temple” and why it's not called a temple anymore or is it? In this philosophical look at the Temple versus Lodge debate, we'll take apart both terms and see what they mean and how they are interchangeable and maybe not interchangeable--within the greater umbrella of Freemasonry. Then Ill. Bro. Steven L. Harrison stops by—this week, a fantastic journey stemming from the Grand Lodge of the state of Missouri. The One Grand Lodge that gave us more Freemasonry than any other Grand Lodge! We'll also look at last month's Fraternal Review examining the Leo Taxil Hoax. Finally, we'll wrap it up with a contemplative exercise. Are you out there solving problems and moving toward your goals using a massive force of your intellect? Find out this and a whole lot more. His band is called "Thee Faded Pyctures". And finally, after the interview, that piece is a lenghty natal chard interpretation, like the one he did for Rudolf in the interview. As the Worshipful Master of the Southern California Research Lodge, Dago Rodriguez points out, one of the most revealing aspects of any individual is their actions, and those actions include the ways we clothe ourselves - every day. The fabrics and accessories that we decide to wear are an expression of our identity. In Masonry, we have our iconic attire such as the Masonic apron, officer jewels, gloves, and more, depending on your jurisdiction. These become the common implements that bind us, but the clothes those items lay over say more about the individual wearing them than anything else. In this episode, we turn our attention to the fourth, and final in our series of the four Cardinal Virtues: Justice. To pick up all four in-depth Fraternal Review issues on the four cardinal virtues of Freemasonry and to put these tools to better work in your life, please visit theresearchlodge.com. Freemasons are charged to cultivate Justice as a spiritual quality. As we listen to the wise words of Brother C. Douglas Russell, Editor in Chief and former Master of the Southern California Research Lodge, we hear how Justice has the ability to lift us further upward by integrating Justice as a crucial responsibility to our communities and the whole of humanity. Justice is truly a duty that extends to the four corners of the world. A duty that we owe to all regardless of race, color, sex, religion, age, or political affiliation. This virtue is not only consistent with divine and human laws but is the very cement and support of civil society.
In this episode, we turn our attention to the third of the four Cardinal Virtues: Prudence. In the July 2020 issue of Fraternal Review, Brother C. Douglas Russell, Editor in Chief and former Master of the Southern California Research Lodge guides an in-depth study of this virtue and enlightens the readers on how Prudence goes beyond simply being careful or cautious, and as having good judgement. Bro. Russell explains that for the brethren who built Freemasonry, and for those continuing to hone this virtue today, Prudence can be seen as all-knowing, eternal, and divine wisdom. In this episode, we turn our attention to Freemasonry and the Tarot. In September 2019 we dedicated an entire issue on this topic and studied how each is a comprehensive system of esoteric knowledge containing the gnosis that emerged from The Ancient Wisdom, stretching back to the dim recesses of human history. You can become a digital, print, or digital & print subscriber of Fraternal Review publication at theresearchlodge.com.
In this episode we have Masters of both South Pasadena Lodge #290 and Southern California Research Lodge (SCLR, Fraternal Review) to talk about their efforts to promote the fraternity and bring Masonic Education to the forefront of Freemasonry. Also how Esotericism is a much needed approach towards bringing the fraternity more younger membership.
In this episode, we are revisiting one of the most ancient and ubiquitous symbols of freemasonry, “The All Seeing Eye.” This topic was particularly popular and well-listened to in our previous episode, so we decided to share further study. Publisher, scholar, and author Mogg Morgan joins us in podcast episode 184 to discuss independent publishing house, Mandrake of Oxford, as well as his recent books Isis: Goddess of Egypt and India and Phi-Neter: Power of the Egyptian Gods.“Mogg Morgan is a publisher, writer, pagan practitioner, independent scholar & theorist. He was Wellcome research student at Oxford, where his teacher was the late Professor B K Matilal, a widely respected expert on South Asian rational thought. He has published on both Indology & Egyptology. His books include Ayurveda: Medicine of the Gods and Sexual Magick. More recently, Morgan has authored a sequence of books combining academic research with practical experimentation beginning with Tankhem: Seth & Egyptian Magick, The Bull of Ombos: Seth and Egyptian Magick II, The Ritual Year in Ancient Egypt, Supernatural Assault in Ancient Egypt, Phi-Neter: Power of the Egyptian Gods, and Isis: Goddess of Egypt & India.”Morgan’s work demonstrating continuity of the Egyptian religious cult over wide geographic and temporal distances is insightful and adds rich complexity to our understanding of these ancient deities and the people who worship(ped) them. I very much appreciate Morgan’s work along these lines, exploring the depth of ancient religious tradition and its extension into modern times. Now in the Chamber of Reflection, the Occult of Personality membership section, there are a couple of new recordings for members—an interview with the publishers of Fraternal Review magazine discussing their reader-voted list of top Masonic books, and a profile of the originator of Christian Cabala, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola.
