The electric vehicle revolution may be hitting a roadblock. Auto expert Jack Nerad joins us to unpack why we might have already reached "peak EV" in the American market. With gas prices low in most states and consumer interest waning, Nerad explains why the billions invested by certain automakers in all-electric futures may have been premature.Diving into the recent Senate vote to block California's 2035 gas vehicle ban, we examine how this regulatory shift could reshape automotive manufacturing priorities across the industry. The conversation highlights how Toyota and Honda, once criticized for "dragging their feet" on electrification, may have been following the smarter strategy all along.Beyond the EV discussion, we tackle the affordability crisis sweeping through the automotive market. With average new car prices hovering around $49,000 and the annual cost of vehicle ownership exceeding $12,000, many Americans find themselves priced out of new car purchases entirely. Nerad shares a striking example of how a Kia Sorento that cost $28,000 in 2015 would now command around $60,000 for a comparable model. The episode also explores how advanced driver assistance systems, while promising enhanced safety, have dramatically increased both insurance premiums and repair costs. Something as simple as replacing a windshield has become a complex, expensive proposition due to embedded sensors and cameras. For those looking to explore automotive culture closer to home, Mike introduces a new "Driving Destinations" feature highlighting hidden Houston gems like the Art Car Museum (aptly nicknamed the "Garage Mahal") and the impressive Hemi Hideout in Brookshire. Jeff rounds out the show with upcoming cruise-in events perfect for Memorial Day weekend exploration.Whether you're considering an electric vehicle purchase, wondering about the future of auto manufacturing, or simply looking to understand why car ownership costs continue to climb, this episode delivers expert insights into the rapidly evolving automotive landscape.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Beyond the highways and byways lies a world of hidden automotive treasures most people never discover. Our journey begins in Houston, uncovering six remarkable destinations that fly under most visitors' radars. We explore the Sam Houston Boat Tour, offering free 90-minute cruises that reveal the bustling Port of Houston from a completely different perspective. Then we venture into Buffalo Bayou Park, a surprising 160-acre natural oasis nestled right in downtown Houston, complete with walking trails and family-friendly activities. For automotive enthusiasts, we uncover the Art Car Museum (affectionately called "Garage Mahal"), showcasing vehicles transformed into rolling works of art. Just outside the city, we visit the impressive Hemi Hideout, housing an extraordinary collection of restored Mopars and Americana in a 21,000-square-foot facility that's an attraction all its own. Racing fans will appreciate our discovery of the Houston Motorsports Museum, preserving Texas racing heritage with collections ranging from IndyCars to NASCAR machines. We round out our Houston exploration with the Lone Star Flight Museum, which surprisingly includes significant automotive elements like World War II Jeeps and military vehicles. The conversation shifts to "banned, crushed, and forgotten muscle" – those legendary cars that never quite made it to glory. From the ultra-rare 1969 Chevrolet Corvette ZL1 (only two ever built) to Ford's answer to the Dodge Charger Daytona – the 1971 Ford Torino King Cobra – we examine six fascinating vehicles that represent automotive history's road not taken. These cars, often too expensive, too radical, or victims of changing regulations, offer a glimpse into what might have been.We conclude with a comprehensive review of the completely redesigned 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor. This midsize pickup delivers impressive off-road capabilities with Fox shocks, increased wheel travel, and a powerful 3.0-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost engine generating 405 horsepower. Starting at $57,065 for the Raptor version, we examine how it stacks up against competitors like the Toyota Tacoma TRD and Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison. Introduction: Host Michael Rand notes the debut of Twins pitcher Zebby Matthews and just how much Minnesota is relying on young throwers drafted in the middle-to-late rounds by Derek Falvey. Is this the arrival of the much-anticipated Falvey pitching pipeline? And if so, how will Matthews, David Festa, Bailey Ober and Louie Varland fare down the stretch of a pennant race? Rand also makes two big points about J.J. McCarthy's injury and its impact on this year's Vikings. 14:00: Rand welcomes in Star Tribune reporter Jeff Day, who wrote the story of the week about a dispute over a house on Lake Minnetonka that has former Viking Chad Greenway as a key character. Plus Rand and Day talk about their favorite subject, the Timberwolves. 37:00: Another significant injury, this time with the Gophers football team.
What kind of auto repair shop do you wish to build? One with excellent customer service, one that is comfortable and visually pleasing, or one with incredible installations for your internal customers? Kori and Troy: Yes.In today's episode, a power couple joins Kim, Jason Patel, and Geoff Berman at ATI's Annual Super Conference, the owners of Graham Auto Repair, Kori and Troy Vaninetti. They started at Kori's stepdad's auto shop when they were teenagers, and after cleaning toilets, picking up millions of cigarette butts, and sweeping the floor thousands of times, they worked their way up and bought the place. From day one, they treated the place as if it was theirs, which eventually happened. We had a fantastic conversation about Kori and Troy's extraordinary transition from internal customers to owners, the advantages their experience as auto shop employees gave them at the moment of leading technicians, and their unnegotiable convictions on building a culture they feel comfortable with. Kori and Troy also share their thoughts on the importance of creating a cozy space for internal customers and how to keep bench warmers happy and active. Additionally, you'll hear Kori and Troy's experiences opening a second location, how they found out the things they didn't know they didn't know, their "give 'em the pickle! approach" to customer service, and more.In This Episode, You Will Learn:How it all started for Kori and Troy (2:30)Troy talks about the challenges of building the auto shop of your dreams (7:20)The importance of taking care of your internal customers (12:00)How to turn your auto shop into the "Garage Mahal" (18:00)Kori and Troy talk about the challenges of opening a second location (22:20)How to keep your bench warmers engaged (27:30)Kori and Troy find out the things they didn't know they didn't know (32:50)Connect with Kori and Troy Vaninetti:Graham Auto RepairGraham Auto Repair Yelm, WAFollow Graham Auto Repair on InstagramFollow Graham Auto Repair on FacebookLet's connect:WebsiteLinkedInFacebookEmail: info@maximumoctane.com Hosted on Acast. Hailing from Longmeadow, MA, Peter Venti says hello. Having received proper exposure to music as a kid, after his three years of mandatory piano lessons, and exploring the bass guitar in college, this keys player/singer ends up in Arizona in the late 80s. He mucked it up in various bands such as Garage Mahal, The Unholy Alliance, The New Subterraineans, Black Sheep Choir, Suffering Bastards and eventually in 2004 we start a band called Ten Dollar Outfit. From it's creation at an open mic at Rula Bula in 2004, to making our first studio album "East Meets West," this trio still performs to this day. Many studio and live albums later, we still enjoy making that music. For more information and to listen to TDO, please visit: www.tdo.brianchartrand.com/music
With P Nate away, Elder P and Air Jordan put their master plan into action and storm Garage-Mahal with mutiny in their hearts. Or at least, with P Nate away they take advantage of the mic time and talk a little bit about a Christian response to Sound of Freedom, Hollywood and the evils of the entertainment industry.
In Willie's view, it represents “everything outside the car that means more than the car.” It's your own personal Garage Mahal, “the getaway spot where you go to find your soul,” says Kevin. “My garage is where I go to find myself.” Today the guys welcome Brian McNamara of Gearhead Homes to lead them through the ins and outs of searching for, identifying, and purchasing the perfect place. “I find people a garage with an attached house,” he tells them. “You need the bedrooms for the toys, too.” Learn more about your ad choices. This week the Rebels continue the new mini series started last week about Paradigm Shifts in faith and doctrine. A paradigm shift is a fundamental change in thinking or assumptions. Certain doctrines, when discovered in scripture or embraced in the life of a believer have the potential to change EVERYTHING! In the second installment of this fun series P Nate, #1 and Air Jordan are back in Garage-Mahal to discuss why Complementarianism is not enough... and how they’ve transitioned from a pretty complementarian lite- to a rich and robust Patricarchical view of the World. Random Vegas Mandalay Beach is 11 acres, has 2.700 tons of real sand and a 1.6 million gallon wave pool (@MandalayBay) Twitpic of the week Probably the best view of @mandalayBay I've ever seen. It's a shame this property is located so far south. True, it has incredible views of north strip but it's a hike to get any place else. Here is where the Las Vegas monorail should have started. Instead, we have retreated underground as plans for the Elon Musk, subterranean Vegas loop continues to progress. Those plans include stops at the airport and virtually all properties on the strip. It will even have a downtown station at Circa's Garage Mahal. While it will help to elevate traffic concerns for the future, this progress will rob people of the experience of seeing the strip while in transit to your selected home away from home, if only for a weekend. Mixing storytelling with conventional Q&A, Jason Singh joins Episode 18 of the Life Is Peachy Podcast to look back on and celebrate 20 years of Taxiride's major label sophomore “Garage Mahal”. The 90's alternative music in Australia essentially acted as a “gateway drug” into the wonderful world of heavy music and all that falls under its umbrella and Taxiride are a result of that journey; laced within the time and place of ‘turn of the century' pop culture and mainstream music. If you follow the Kats! Column, you know that Derek is the bold overlord of The D Las Vegas and Golden Gate. His company also operates the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, the site of the naming-announcement party on January 10th. Born in 1963 to a Pakistani father and Chilean mother, Fareed’s extensive travels and especially long stays in Spain, France, Iran, Pakistan, and Chile exposed him to different kinds of music from a very early age. His musical accomplishments are many ---including being named "Best World Guitarist" by Guitar Player magazine in 2009 -- but in my humble opinion tho the coolest thing about Fareed is that he named one of his bands "Garage Mahal".
This week we chop up Loctite's work on CP's tins, my relocation to the new home, most frustrating aspects of a build, the podcast booth at Full Speed Ahead, our new #JustTheTip section and most importantly, ask some questions of YOU, the listeners.
