Beyond Meat Faces NASDAQ Delisting Beyond Meat, the once leading light of the plant-based protein business world, is in danger of being delisted from the NASDAQ stock exchange because its stock price has remained under $1.00 for more than 30 days. The company, which is in the process of removing the word “meat” from its brand moniker, received a letter of warning from NASDAQ on March 4. It has 180 calendar days — actually until August 31 — to remedy the situation or face delisting. Its closing bid price must remain at $1.00 or higher for 10 days in order to be in compliance. Beyond Meat went public in 2019 and at one point was valued at $14 billion. The rumors of a "yield-killer" feedlot virus with a climbing mortality rate in the Texas Panhandle began to spread in online publications and on social media over the weekend. One such report from agroinformacion.com said the news was drawing "immediate panic" from the beef industry, projecting a "brutal" hit to the market. The US House of Representatives has voted to remove gray wolves from the endangered species list, a decision supported by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.

China has secured at least seven million tons of U.S. soybeans after multiple purchases in recent weeks, and the Pet and Livestock Protection Act passed the House with a bipartisan vote, which would reissue the 2020 rule delisting gray wolves.

Pieter Swart, the President of the South Africa Taxidermy and Tanners Association, joins Robbie this week to discuss a recent proposal by the organization to delist giraffes from Appendix II protections. This proposal and its science were put forward to the DFFE (Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment) in South Africa, and the governmental agency has agreed and has moved the proposal forward to be reviewed, discussed, and voted on at the CITES COP in November in Uzbekistan. There is no reason this proposal shouldn't be adopted and approved by CITES. The science is there, CITES requirements have been met, and the proposal is going forward. At CITES, the requirement to pass is a two-thirds majority vote—which is the political gamesmanship of South Africa up against a global political machine to fight for the science. The USFWS had scheduled public hearings on the decision for Missoula, Coeur D'Alene, Cody and online this week. In a statement, the agency wrote the meetings were cancelled while the new presidential administration reviews the proposal.

The second DLC for Atari 50 is out, about the first console war, and it has some interesting games - as long as you have a second player on the couch with you. Tetris Forever is also out now, and I give some early impressions of the games included and the start of the documentary portion. SEGA is delisting many classic games on all platforms, probably to sell them back to you at a higher price. Epic Games has said they are supporting the Internet Archive's hosting of Unreal and Unreal Tournament. GOG announced a preservation program that has them taking on tech support and updates for older games. Then we talk to Rob about game archival and when holiday lights should come up.

Reports state that Supermicro (SMCI) has submitted a proposal to avoid being delisted on the Nasdaq-100. The fight to stay on the index is a result of accounting concerns that began several months ago. Caroline Woods notes an uptick in investor confidence, but warns of risks that remain with Supermicro and partners like Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD Inc. Two grizzly bears were trucked from northwest Montana to the Yellowstone ecosystem this week. The transfer is part of a multi-state effort to remove grizzlies from the Endangered Species list.

Federal wildlife officials will delay an anticipated decision on the protected status of grizzly bears until next year.

Earlier in February, the US Fish and Wildlife Service made a determination that a population of wolves delisted years ago in the Western United States should not be relisted under the Endangered Species Act. However, the decision is more complicated than that, and could create some unintended consequences for these states down the line. The guys explain that, and the entire legal history that got us to this point.
