For your convenience and listening pleasure, the first hour is just a church member and his pastor shooting the breeze about Evangelicalism, especially in North America and the West. The second hour, we get down to the nitty gritty of the Nicene Creed and Sola Scriptura. Do they fit like a hand and glove or are they like oil and water? Can Biblicists believe in the usefulness of creeds? Do creeds necessarily supplant the Scriptures? Gird your loins and enjoy a little Theology to Drive By 2026! Gird your loins, folks! We've accepted the low-paying position of assistant to Miranda Priestly, the legendary editor-in-chief at Runway Magazine, the fashion crown jewel of the Elias Clarke publishing empire. A million other people would kill to have this job, but it's sure to open up big doors for us in the future. Ms. Priestly's a little demanding, and doesn't like us to ask questions, and doesn't like when we don't understand things, and calls us fat, but all things require a learning curve. On an unrelated note: The podcast is covering The Devil Wears Prada (2006), the millennial classic about a hard-working striver who doesn't think she can please her boss, before wouldn't you know it, she pleases her damn boss? It might end up being the role Meryl Streep will be best remembered for, and she's truly electric in this movie. But Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are also incredible! And Anne Hathaway's doing her thing. Now, about that: During the history segment, we really try to unpack why people don't like Anne Hathaway. Including one of the people who hosts this podcast. Also in the history segment: The life and times of Vogue editor Anna Wintour; Lauren Weisberger working for Wintour and then writing a thinly veiled novel about it; how that novel was adapted into a movie; and how playing Priestly catapulted Meryl Streep into being a box office sensation for the first time in her career. Watch the history segment in full: https://youtu.be/iF8YfSnisqw Next week (May 8, 2026): Bride of Chucky (1998)! Time stamps: 00:06:33 — History segment: Anna Wintour; author Lauren Weisberger works as Wintour's assistant for 10 months, writes a novel about it; the novel gets adapated as a movie by director David Frankel; casting Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway; why do people hate Anne Hathaway? 00:51:55 — Movie discussion 02:05:15 — Final thoughts & star ratings The Devil Wears Prada was directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, based on Lauren Weisberger's novel. Gird your loins, the latest Movie Squad instalment has arrived. Simon Miraudo reunites with Tristan Fidler and together they bring two new reviews to their fashionable taskmaster, Breakfast host Pamela Boland. First up, Tristan reviews The Devil Wears Prada 2, the long-awaited sequel to Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway's iconic 2006 fash-com (fashion comedy, not fascist comedy). Pam saw it too, so listen in to find out whether or not it's (in the words of Miranda Priestly) groundbreaking or dirty, tired and paunchy. Then, Simon and Tristan jointly review Warwick Thornton's Wolfram, which is also a sequel… of sorts. The great Aussie filmmaker follows up 2017's Sweet Country with another brutal tale of colonial violence, but this time, there's perhaps a slightly more optimistic outlook. It stars Deborah Mailman and Pedrea Jackson. Stay tuned for the pod-exclusive segment, where Simon reviews the Australian thriller Seven Snipers, which sees an ex-military mum played by Radha Mitchell protecting her daughter from the vengeful marksman known only as The Dragon (Tim Roth). Would it shock you to learn she is helped by approximately six other snipers? All these films are now in Australian cinemas! Learn about the new season of Tristan's Trash Classics screenings at Luna Cinemas held on the last Friday of every month. Be sure to tune in to RTRFM every Friday at 7:30am to hear Movie Squad live on Breakfast with Pam!

That's all.Waar te kijken? The Devil Wears Prada is momenteel (25 april) te streamen via Disney+ of te huur via Pathé Thuis en Apple TV.

“These are days of great looseness; everywhere I see great laxity of doctrinal belief, and gross carelessness in religious practice. Christian people are doing to-day what their forefathers would have loathed. Multitudes of professors are but very little different from worldlings. Men's religion seems to hang loosely about them, as if it did not fit them: the wonder is that it does not drop off from them. Men are so little braced up as to conscientious conviction and vigorous resolve, that they easily go to pieces if assailed by error or temptation. The teaching necessary for to-day is this: ‘Gird up the loins of your mind,' brace yourselves up; pull yourselves together; be firm, compact, consistent, determined. Do not be like quicksilver, which keeps on dissolving and running into fractions; do not fritter away life upon trifles, but live to purpose, with undivided heart, and decided resolution.” So Spurgeon describes the reason for preaching this sermon, and what more can we say by way of introduction? It expresses the preacher's profound concern and earnest plea. The sermon develops as the sustained exhortation of a pastor confident that the motives which the gospel supplies will be sufficient to establish and encourage the people of God in a lukewarm and watery age. “Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate. And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel. But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished. But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.” (Acts 12:1-17)

They explore how past safety gains have lost vitality, highlight cascading modern risks (the "messy nine"), and argue for mutual assistance and revitalized resilience practices. Wood's most recent writing on this is available in the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists called: Cheaper, Faster, and Who Gives a Damn about Anything Else. The episode connects space, aviation, cloud outages, and AI-driven engineering to show why coordinated foresight and cross-disciplinary cooperation are essential to prevent far-reaching harm in today's complex systems.

What is a Reformed Baptist Church? Pamphlets, booklets, and sermon series have been produced to answer this question for decades. Although their presence online may indicate large numbers, this would be mistaken. If the visible church is likened to a tree, how did the Reformed Baptist branch shoot out? What is the good, the bad, and the ugly, especially in North America in the last and present century? Have you visited a Reformed Baptist local church before? What was its ethos? Gird your loins as we scratch the surface on what a Reformed Baptist Church is.

FAM...I KNOW WE SAY THIS A LOT, BUT THIS ONE IS WILLLLLLLD. In the early 1960, we don't know exactly when, George Carol went out for a pack of cigarettes and never came home. His four kids spent decades wondering what happened to him. Their mother, Dorothy, didn't like to talk about George and she didn't want to answer any of her children's questions about him. As adults, the kids decided to search. They were given a clue from an unlikely source. And so they started to dig--figuratively and literally. What they discovered leads to one of the most shocking conclusions we ever seen. Gird your loins, grab your dog or your cocktail, or nearest loved one (WITH CONSENT, PEOPLE!), because you are not going to believe what you are about to hear. After reading Psalm 45 we meditated on what makes a person handsome. As the Psalm proceeds it becomes evident that several verses are prophetical of our Lord. Verses 6 & 7 are quoted in Hebrews 1 v.8,9. In the Psalm they read, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever: the sceptre of your kingdom is a sceptre of uprightness; you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions” This puts the relationship between the Almighty and his Son in its true perspective. But are verses 2 & 3 also prophetical of Jesus? “You are the most handsome of the sons of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever. Gird your sword on your thigh O mighty one, in your splendour and majesty.”This is in contrast to Isaiah 53 which is so evidently prophetical of the Lord, that “he has no form or majesty that we should look to him, and no beauty that we should desire him.” [v.2] The solution to this contrast is two-fold, the words that follow in the Psalm, “you are the most handsome” are – “grace is poured upon your lips therefore God has …” This reminds us of Peter's words, “let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a meek and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.” [1 Pet. 3 v.4] God will reward this kind of beauty. We read yesterday how – because “Joseph was handsome in form and appearance” [Gen 39 v.6] it proved to be to his disadvantage – but today we saw a contrast when “they quickly brought him out of the pit.” [41 v14] and when he had shaved and had new clothes he was brought before Pharaoh.Exalted to a position of honour before Pharaoh, did not these developments foreshadow in type, first the humiliation and then the exaltation of Christ. They also foreshadow the experience of true believers who, especially in certain parts of the world, struggle with opposition against the true way of life in Christ. This opposition is spreading as, even in this country, the Government is more inclined to pass permissive laws and seek to punish those who ignore them and even speak against them. Paul's words to the Romans should be engraved on our minds: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing, you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable …” [12 v.2] Our daily reading of God's word enables us to properly perform the “testing” and become “handsome” in mind and be ready for the time when our Lord will “gird (his) sword”..

On November 28, 1974, 28-year-old Karen Silkwood was killed in a car wreck on Highway 74 near Crescent, Oklahoma. Her death was officially ruled an accident. But her friends, family, and co-workers knew the real story: she had been killed for what she knew - and what she was about to do about it. In her car was a folder full of evidence that she was about to turn over to the New York Times detailing the plutonium contamination of herself and her fellow workers at the local nuclear energy plant, and, crucially, evidence that the plant and THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT, was complicit in nuclear proliferation - AKA GIVING FOREIGN POWERS THE TOOLS TO MAKE NUCLEAR WEAPONS. 45:1 My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. 45:2 Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever. 45:3 Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty. 45:4 And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things. 45:5 Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee. 45:6 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. 45:7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. 45:8 All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad. 45:9 Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir. 45:10 Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house; 45:11 So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him. 45:12 And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour. 45:13 The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold. 45:14 She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee. 45:15 With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace. 45:16 Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth. 45:17 I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.

Today's Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Father Robert Garon joins Terry to discuss his journey as God led him from false religions into the Priesthood Gospel - Luke 12:35-38 - Jesus said to His disciples: "Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master's return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. And should he come in the second or third watch and find them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants."
Pastoral Reflections Finding God In Ourselves by Msgr. Don Fischer
Gospel Luke 12:35-38 Jesus said to his disciples: "Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master's return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. And should he come in the second or third watch and find them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants.” Reflection Whenever a wedding is used as an image in Scripture, it makes reference to God's union with our humanity. He wants to marry us. He wants to be a part of us. He wants to make a vow with us, it will take care of one another. And here we see Jesus talking about being open and vigilant for this great message of union with God. And then he goes on to say that when he himself knows that you understand this, he is delighted and he does something so unusual. He, the master, takes care of and ministers to his servants. What a beautiful image of God's relationship with us. God taking care of us because we are open and receptive. Closing Prayer Father, bless us with an awareness of all that you long to say to us. Give us time. Quiet, restful time when we can simply listen to you and understand that you are there to serve us. It is beyond our imagining, but you are the God of service. Help us to live in that. And we ask this in Jesus' name, Amen. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Read OnlineJesus said to his disciples: “Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master's return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.” Luke 12:35–36What does it mean to “Gird your loins?” This phrase, which is not commonly used today, literally means “tighten your belt.” It traditionally refers to one who is wearing a long robe that makes it difficult to move quickly and easily. Thus, to gird your loins means that you tuck in the long robe and tighten your belt so that you are prepared for some physical activity. It was also commonly used to exhort those preparing for battle to get ready. Symbolically, then, this phrase simply means to be ready for something difficult or challenging. It means to be vigilant and prepared. Spiritually speaking, Jesus is telling His disciples to be ready for the spiritual battle that awaits them.Jesus then tells His disciples to light their lamps. That phrase could have a variety of meanings, such as “Do not remain in the darkness of sin or ignorance” or “Let the light of charity shine forth as you navigate through life” or “Allow the light of truth to shine within your mind.” Hence, by the light of faith, they are to be prepared and vigilant, ready to do all that the Lord sends them to do.Today's Gospel ends by Jesus saying that the disciples will be truly blessed if they remain vigilant even until the second or third watch of the night. Some Church Fathers see this as a reference to three periods in one's life: childhood being the first watch, middle age being the second, and old age being the third watch. With these meanings understood, one message we can take from this Gospel is that Jesus is calling us to be vigilant in our faith at every moment of our lives. For those who have lived many years, it may be useful to look back at how faithful you have been throughout every period of your life. God wants to use you in many ways during childhood, through your middle age, and even in old age. The journey of faith must never end. Instead, it must continually deepen as you age. But this will only be possible if you “gird your loins” and “light your lamps.” You must continually be vigilant, continually attentive to the light of faith, and continually be ready to act every time God inspires you to act. Reflect, today, upon the lifelong journey of faith and service of God to which you are called. Being a Christian is not simply something you are born into. If you were born into the faith, then ponder especially what you have done throughout your life to daily deepen and strengthen that faith. Ponder whether or not you have diligently responded to the countless inspirations of the Holy Spirit to spread the light of faith to others. If you have been truly faithful throughout your life, then give thanks to God and recommit yourself to this fidelity for the rest of your life. If you have lacked faith and vigilant attentiveness to the will of God, then place that in the hands of God's mercy and resolve from this day forward to do all you can to respond to the will of God the moment God calls. My most merciful Lord, I thank You for the countless ways throughout my life that You have spoken to me, calling me to fulfill my mission of faith and love in this world. I commit to You, this day, to always remain vigilant and attentive to You every time You call. Use me, dear Lord, so that I may bring the light of Your saving Gospel to a world in need. Jesus, I trust in You. Image: Duccio di Buoninsegna, Public domain, via Wikimedia CommonsSource of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Description: Today's conversation might have you clutching your pearls and purity rings. Jen and Amy sit down with Dr. Celeste Holbrook—sexologist, educator, and author of Missionary Position: A Slightly Irreverent Guide to Sex After Purity Culture—for the candid, hilarious, and healing “sex talk” you never had but always deserved. From busting purity culture myths to unpacking women's complicated relationship with pleasure, Dr. Holbrook shares the four “inner missionaries” that shape our approach to sex, why sexual shame runs so deep, and how to reclaim intimacy as the joyful gift it was always meant to be. Highlights include: Unpacking women' s complicated relationship with pleasure Dr. Holbrook prescribes the best sexy-time soundtrack Review of the four inner missionaries (the Analyst, the Assassin, the Healer, and the Explorer) – the archetypes that define our individual approach to sex Celeste reveals a surprising fact that both golf carts and ejaculate have in common How the combination of purity culture, patriarchy and capitalism are the oppression cocktail for sex And the conversation veers off course when the trio discusses an exercise that uses Jason Mamoa to evaluate their sexual ethics Thought-provoking Quotes: “When I say sex education saved my relationship, I am not being bombastic. It really did help me find myself.” – Dr. Celeste Holbrook “We view sex through a patriarchal lens. Media tells us how to feel about sex and what is sexy. So what is sexy has been historically white, thin, able-bodied, young… And the way that we view ourselves then says, well, what if I'm not all of those things? Am I still sexy? Is my body still OK?” – Dr. Celeste Holbrook “The work for us, especially as women, is to anchor into our body to experience sensuality in order to experience sex instead of perform sex.” – Dr. Celeste Holbrook “We need to be inside the system in order to take down the system.” – Dr. Celeste Holbrook Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Jen Hatmake's Sex MeCourse: SexEd For the Rest of Us - https://shop.jenhatmaker.com/products/sex-101 Pantsuit Politics - https://www.instagram.com/pantsuitpolitics/ Missionary Position: A Slightly Irreverent Guide to Sex after Purity Culture by Dr. Celeste Holbrook - https://amzn.to/46StjOa For the Love of Men by Liz Plank – https://amzn.to/41JtRSS Say Yes to Pleasure: How to Talk About Sex and Rekindle Intimacy in Midlife with Vanessa Marin – https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-64/say-yes-to-pleasure-how-to-talk-about-sex-and-rekindle-intimacy-in-midlife-with-vanessa-marin/ A Tribe Called Quest – https://atribecalledquest.com/blogs/discography The Pleasure Club - https://www.drcelesteholbrook.com/https/thepleasureclub Guest's Links: Website - https://www.drcelesteholbrook.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/drcelesteholbrook/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/DrCelesteHolbrook/ Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy.
