"Give Me Your Heart" With Bishop H.A. Stephens | Sunday, January 29th, 2024 | 12pm Service
In this captivating video, our pastor delves into the profound wisdom found in Proverbs and Ezekiel, exploring the concept of giving one's heart to God. You'll discover the true meaning of the heart in a spiritual sense and unravel its significance in our faith journey. Join us as we embark on this enlightening series. Highlights 1. The Heart's True Definition The heart in the Bible refers to our mind, will, conscience, and emotions. It's the seat of affection, wisdom, and understanding. So, when we talk about giving our heart to God, we're talking about giving Him our entire being. 2. The Mind's Role The heart thinks, decides, and discerns right from wrong. It's where our thoughts reside, as seen in Matthew 9:4 when Jesus knew their thoughts. 3. Purpose of Heart Acts 11:23 emphasizes the importance of a "purpose of heart," indicating a strong and determined will to serve the Lord. 4. Emotions and Joy Our hearts also house our emotions. As in John 16:22, it's where our joy and sorrow are deeply felt. 5. The Conscience Connection Our conscience, an integral part of the heart, plays a significant role in guiding us to distinguish right from wrong. 6. The Inherent Deceitfulness It's crucial to acknowledge that by nature, the human heart is deceitful and wicked. Jeremiah 17:9 attests to its deceitful nature. 7. God's Call to Give Him Our Heart In the main verses, we witness the Lord's call to give Him our hearts. This request is made by our Creator, the Father of all, and it carries immense significance in our spiritual journey. In conclusion, our pastor's message is a powerful reminder to give our hearts to God, surrendering our entire being to His divine wisdom and guidance. Will you answer His call to "Give Me Your Heart" today? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/gnbc/message
In this episode of I Thought You'd Like to Know, Roy Schoeman of Ave Maria Radio interviews Ronda Chervin on her book Charles Rich, Give Me Your Heart: Preparing for Eternal Life (October 14, 2023)How about a book for the elderly by a sage who was still making disciples in his nineties?Who was this Charles Rich, anyhow? One of the most fascinating Hebrew-Catholics of all times was Charles Rich (1899-1998). Born in Hungary in a Jewish village similar to the one in Fiddler on the Roof, Charles was noticed by the rabbis as an extraordinarily religious boy. He loved to stay in the forests to pray alone. His father joined one of the many waves of Jews who went to America to seek better opportunities. After establishing himself in New York City, he sent for the family. This was the beginning of a very dark time for Charles. He found it impossible to be close to God in the teeming city and among the strict legalistic rabbis he had to study with. Eventually, he lost his faith. He worked as a waiter by night and spent 8 hours a day at the 42nd St. public library searching world literature, philosophy, and religious writings searching for the God he had lost.Eventually, Charles fell into despair and tried to commit suicide. Three times he tried; three times he failed, being rescued the last minute. Feeling even more of a failure, one day he went into a Catholic Church. Jesus spoke to him directly from a painting telling him that He was God and to trust in him.Instructed by the Jesuits, Charles became a Catholic and then a lay contemplative, spending hours and hours of the day rapt in prayer. Catholics seeking a deeper prayer life were attracted to him, especially Jewish converts such as myself. Quite a number of books of his thoughts and meditations have been published.Charles Rich: Give Me Your Heart–Preparing for Eternal Life by Charles Rich | En Route Books and Media

The central issue of Christianity is the cross, for it was upon the cross that Jesus died. All sin of all people, from Adam to the last person to pass through a birth canal was placed on the heart and shoulders of the Lamb of God. What was it that motivated Jesus to do such a thing? It had everything to do with the heart relationship he had with his Father. Push rewind thousands of years. Under the Law of Moses, the central issue between Israel and the Lord was a matter of the heart. Indeed, the heart of the matter is the heart. Come with the Grace United crew as we hear God's call resonate down through the ages: "Give me your heart."

Proverbs 23:22-26 If there's one Last Days characteristic that has come swiftly upon Western society over the last 60-70 years, it is the flippant and widespread rebellion of children against their parents. It is almost an accepted norm that when children turn teenagers, the relationship between them and their parents breaks down. It used to be that the most important unit in the life a young person was their family. Families are God given institutions of grace. Conduits of His love which provide for children safety and nurture. As Christians, do we not endeavour to raise our children in the fear and discipline of the Lord and to communicate to them in word and deed, the love of Christ. Children are supposed to be among the happiest people on the earth and when they are in the confines of a loving family unit, they generally are! Satan is well aware of this and seeks on every hand to destroy our young ones. How does he do this? He seeks to destroy the family unit!! This sermon is a call to Fathers and mothers to gain the hearts of their children. It is call by our heavenly Father also, to His children, saying, “Give me your heart”.

The seventh commandment is probably the most maligned and resisted commandment in our culture. Sex is big business and pervades ever aspect of daily life. Most people think that God hates sex. Nothing could be further from the truth. God designed sex and gave it as a gift to humanity. In this message, Pastor Derek Holmes takes us through God's design for great sex.

Charles Rich quote: "You have a cross. You mistake your cross for a problem, so you try to solve it. But it can’t be solved. That is your problem!” (from "Give Me Your Heart" edited by Ronda Chervin).Carl Jung quote: “Mental illness is the foundation of the avoidance of true suffering.” In other words go ahead and make efforts to solve your problems but understand that not all can be solved. Some are "sufferings that can't be avoided," and "crosses that can't be solved" but instead must be lived with and accepted. If we do this God can and will bring greater good out of whatever causes us suffering and pain. And "Joy is the inner delight of knowing I am loved by God," Saw this quote on a board at the Franciscan Friary I attend and was struck by its simplicity and truth. (April 8, 2019)

For the first time ever, I did a live episode of The nsavides Podcast a few days ago, and what an honor it was to do that as an official event at SXSW 2018. What's more I got to do the show with my friends and some of the most talented filmmakers I know in Louisiana: cinematographer Matt S. Bell, director-editor Misty Talley, and producer Sam Claitor. All three are from Fable House, a production company in Baton Rouge that has produced over $2 million in content. Whether shooting commercials for Toyota and Airbnb, working with artists like Kendrick Lamar and 30 Seconds to Mars, directing films with all kinds of creatures (including the dreaded zombie shark!) or doing effects work for projects like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Game of Thrones, and Star Trek: Into Darkness, Matt, Misty, and Sam truly have experiences that run the gamut of what film production involves. Some of our discussion topics include How Matt built a reputation by taking memorable band photos Developing an artistic sensibility by collecting samples of inspiring work from others What Misty learned as an editor that makes her a better director Why Sam transitioned from vfx work on massive projects to producing films with smaller budgets How Fable House works together to develop an effects-driven sequence Essential elements of a compelling shark film Towards the end of the show, we also delve into deeper territory, discussing some of the obstacles that get in the way of the creative work we want to do and the people we want to be and how we combat those challenges, but we still tried to have some fun along the way. Since it was a live show, we decided to change it up a bit. In other words, this episode is a little different than a typical one, but I hope that you'll still get some practical suggestions and inspiration to keep your dreams alive. # Want more coverage from SXSW? If so, you might be interested in the coverage I did at SXSW 2017, where I did a variety of interviews during the festival including New York Times best-selling author of The Perfect Storm, Sebastian Junger; director of an award-winning documentary at SXSW, Miao Wang; and esteemed film critic Leonard Maltin.
