Mary Stone discusses how Violets and Pansies bring joy to our gardens and pots in the cool seasons of Spring and Fall. She revisits bits of Vicki Johnson's story, shared in Episode 202, of how pansies grown by her mother, a Swiss giant pansy in particular, inspired her to start gardening. Mary explains the differences between Pansies and Common Blue Violets from the Viola genus, as well as how and where to plant them. She clarifies the differences between short-lived perennials, biennials, annuals, and perennials. The episode concludes with her reminiscing about her mother's influence on her gardening journey and encouraging listeners to share their own stories about gardens and nature by emailing her at AskMaryStone@gmail.com.Related Podcasts and Posts: Ep 202. Listen to today's podcast... Roses are red, Violets are Blue Stinky feet? Try some perfume. Fragrance Day is a celebration for the olfactory nerves in your nose. There is nothing like the scent of a good wine, a beautiful flower, the coming of spring, fresh baked cookies or a touch of perfume. The sense of smell, called olfaction, involves the detection and perception of chemicals floating in the air. The olfactory tract transmits these signals to the brain, particularly the limbic system. The limbic system is involved with emotional behavior and memory which is why when you smell something, it often brings back memories associated with the object. The connection between smell and memory happens almost immediately for us. Baby's recognize the smell of their mother. No two people have the exact same odor-identity or “smell fingerprint” which is determined by many factors including: our genes, skin type, diet, medicine, mood state and even the weather. Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! Here are today's Tips To Celebrating Fragrance Day: Use different smells to purposefully relax you, energize you or excite you. Citrus provides energy and lavender can help you to relax. You can buy room fresheners, candles and even incense to add that dash of fragrance. Take a fragrance walk. Now is an excellent time to get out and notice the smells of spring such as the melting snow or the first flowers. So Happy smelling! If you like today's wellness tips, let me know. Fetus John the Baptist knew exactly who Jesus was, according to Luke. Adult John the Baptist sends emissaries to ask Jesus who he is. Jesus does not answer John's question, but rather instructs the question-askers to simply report what they see and what they hear. It seems that, according to Jesus, his identity must be shown, enacted, embodied for it to be real. Similarly, our Anabaptist faith has a centuries-long history of being done, enacted, embodied. Our faith is a lived faith and has traditionally been proclaimed more in deed than in word. This is why the decision of our denomination to be the named plaintiff in a lawsuit against the Dept. of Homeland Security (Mennonite Church USA et al. v. United States Department of Homeland Security et al.) is completely in line with our 500-year history of following Jesus. Because our faith IS caring for our neighbor. So when the U.S. Government tries to prevent us from doing that, the free exercise of our religion is compromised and we must resist.Sermon begins at minute marker 6:18Luke 7:18-35ResourcesBibleWorm podcast: Episode 626 – Are You Really the One?, Amy Robertson and Robert Williamson, JrIris de León-Hartshorn, “Our Anabaptist Witness as Mennonites,” (theological basis for legal action taken by Mennonite Church USA - see link below) February 12, 2025.“MC USA and more than two dozen Christian and Jewish denominations and associations sue to protect religious freedoms,” February 11, 2025.Mary H. Dave Klatsky is the Men's Basketball Head Coach at New York University. He was named head coach of the Violets in May of 2022. Klatsky produced his second consecutive winning season at NYU in 2023-24, as he led the Violets to a 21-6 record, the University Athletic Association (UAA) Co-Championship (the program's first title in 30 years), and to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. In his first season at NYU, Klatsky led the Violets to their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2015-16. He set a new standard for the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history as the Violets posted an 18-8 overall record and added a 7-7 mark in the UAA, the most victories since 2015-16.Klatsky came to NYU after an 11-year tenure as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Colgate University under Head Coach Matt Langel, helping lead the program to three of the last four Patriot League Tournament titles.Prior to Colgate, Klatsky served as an assistant coach at Stevens Institute of Technology from 2007-11. Klatsky, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with a concentration in Finance and Accounting from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003, played for Coach Fran Dunphy from 1999-2003. He set the program's then-single-season assist record in 2000-01.After graduating from Penn, Klatsky worked as an equity analyst and trader in Manhattan and Jersey City, before entering the coaching profession. On this episode Mike & Dave discuss Dave's journey from assistant coach to leading the Violets of NYU in this insightful conversation. Klatsky discusses the significant decisions that come with being a head coach, emphasizing that everything ultimately falls back on him, not just game strategies and player substitutions. Klatsky reflects on his early development as a player and how the landscape of basketball has changed, particularly in terms of skill development and creativity. He highlights the importance of creating a culture within the team and how he approaches practice design to foster competitiveness and efficiency. As he looks to the future, Klatsky expresses both excitement and challenge in maintaining the talent and culture of his program while enjoying the collaborative spirit of coaching.Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @hoopheadspod for the latest updates on episodes, guests, and events from the Hoop Heads Pod.Make sure you're subscribed to the Hoop Heads Pod on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts and while you're there please leave us a 5 star rating and review.
