Most women don't find gut health because they think there is a gut issue. They find it because they're trying to understand the symptom right in front of them.In this episode, Juniper shares the deeply personal story of trying to understand her son's eczema, reflux, colic, food allergies, mucus-filled stools, behavioral challenges, and speech delays and how she eventually realized these symptoms were not separate problems, but communication connected to the gut. This episode is for the woman or mother who has been chasing symptoms one by one and wondering why nothing has fully made sense yet. You'll learn why the symptom is the doorway, not the whole story, and how gut health is connected to digestion, nutrient absorption, immune function, inflammation, skin, mood, cravings, energy, the nervous system, hormones, and how reactive or resilient the body feels. If you've been trying to understand your symptoms, or your child's symptoms, through disconnected answers, this episode will help you begin seeing the pattern underneath it all. What do you do when you've experienced years of symptoms and no real answers? In this episode of Follow Your Gut, Juniper shares her deeply personal story of trying to heal her son after years of reflux, eczema, food allergies, mucus-filled stools, allergies, explosive meltdowns, and being dismissed by professional after professional. This episode is for the woman or mother who knows something is off, even when labs look “normal,” even when she's told her child will “grow out of it,” and when every answer she's given feels partial, temporary, or disconnected. You'll learn why symptoms are not your body betraying you, but communication from a body asking for deeper support. In this episode, we sit down with Ryan Malphrus, a Licensed Certified Social Worker (Clinical) with over a decade of experience helping adolescents and adults navigate meaningful personal growth—especially men who often feel underserved by traditional mental health care. We begin with a critical and timely topic: why so many boys are labeled with behavioral issues in school—and what might be misunderstood beneath the surface. From there, the conversation expands into the broader mental health challenges facing men and boys, and why many struggle to find support that truly resonates. Ryan shares his psychodynamic approach to therapy, emphasizing the importance of understanding one's full life story and building a real, honest therapeutic relationship where nothing is off-limits. In this episode, we explore: Why boys' behavior is often misunderstood or misinterpreted in school systems The ongoing mental health crisis among men and boys What makes therapy effective—and what clients should actually expect in a session The importance of fit, trust, and openness between therapist and client How exploring your story can unlock meaningful and lasting change Ryan's work is rooted in the belief that true growth happens not just through insight—but through experiencing a different kind of relationship, one built on honesty, curiosity, and acceptance. This episode is for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of men's mental health, therapy, and personal growth—whether you're a client, parent, or practitioner. Pressure is a privilege, according to Billie Jean King, who said it's what you do with it that matters. Millions of students, however, may beg to disagree about the privilege part, and what many of them do with it impedes rather than elevates their performance. Amy and Mike invited ed tech specialist Deanna Oliver to explore what happens when academic pressure turns into behavioral issues. What are five things you will learn in this episode? How does academic pressure typically show up in schools? Why do some students "act out" while others withdraw or disengage? What are the most common warning signs that adults miss until the situation escalates? What does a healthy system of school-based support look like? If a parent could implement just a few changes at home, what would make the biggest difference? MEET OUR GUEST Deanna Oliver is the CEO & Co-Founder of Psyflo, an AI-powered youth mental health platform that helps schools shift from reactive crisis response to proactive, early support. With a background in public health and health technology, she focuses on practical systems that fit real school constraints—supporting student wellbeing through scalable check-ins, skill-building, and clear safety workflows that reduce burden on counselors and educators. Parents are asking a fair question: is what's on the school tray really food? In this episode of the Nutritional Therapy and Wellness Podcast, host Jamie Belz and guest Shari Gilford, NTP (Full Table Nutrition) open the lunchbox and get practical about raising healthier kids—at school and at home. The conversation swings from frustrations to solutions. Listeners will hear why many “kids' foods” are hyper-processed, hyper-palatable, and nutrient-void—and how families can pivot to real, brain-fueling meals without perfectionism or overwhelm. Shari Gilford is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner who helps children and families build nutrition habits for lifelong health. Through Full Table Nutrition, she educates and inspires families to enjoy fresh, whole foods and be nourished for life. Diagnosed with hereditary kidney disease at age 11, she understands how poor health can disrupt childhood—and why preventing obesity and type 2 diabetes (a leading cause of kidney disease) matters. Her mission is to help transform the health of an entire generation. In this episode, expect: Clear, compassionate guidance on sugar, dyes, and ultra-processed “food-like products,” including why kids average ~17 teaspoons of added sugar/day, how that relates to focus, mood, and classroom behavior, and why protein-first breakfasts change the school day. Practical lunchbox wins: muffin frittatas; meatball “muffins”; leftover taco meat with crunchy chips; tuna or salmon salad for omega-3 brain power; beef sticks; hard-boiled eggs; colorful produce that packs and keeps. Picky-eater strategies that actually work: involve kids in choosing veggies (beet or grated carrot salads, jicama “dippers”), taste-training away from constant sweetness, and fun “compare & prepare” nights to find favorite veggie textures. Smart swaps & step-downs: the sugar-cube visual (4 g = 1 cube), gradual transitions from sweetened to unsweetened peanut butter and yogurt, and moving from juice to whole fruit. A simple at-home experiment kids love: three days of protein-strong breakfasts vs. one high-sugar morning—then track energy, mood, focus, and “battery level.” Parent empowerment: how to teach kids the “why,” build a two-week rotation of packable meals, and make real food doable on busy school mornings. This conversation is hopeful and hands-on—less about guilt, more about doing the next right thing with real food that steadies minds, builds bodies, and sets kids up to thrive. Slam the Gavel welcomes back Deanna Kloostra to the podcast. Deanna was last on Season 5, Episodes 60 and 201. Today we discussed the case of 14 year-old, Emily Pike, a teen who was missing and found murdered in Arizona. Deanna talked about the group homes, foster care and CPS that contribute to unhappy children and families that suffer through the systems. Talking at length about being a Program Director for group homes, being under staffed and unsafe, Deanna explained from her experiences what really goes on in these group homes. CPS will remove a child from a fit home (or not), and place them in a group home. Most often this child is unprepared to handle what goes on when meeting other violent individuals in these homes. By six months the child can't handle it, so staff refers to a psychiatrist who diagnoses, places the child on medication, and now the child is labeled, "mentally disabled," and is now worth more money to the Title IV-E system. Plus, she provides a checklist to help owners determine when and how to gradually reduce structure while maintaining a respectful and trusting relationship with their dog.Throughout the episode, Millie and Andreia stress that while treats are great for teaching tricks, they don't address deeper behavioral challenges. They highlight the importance of consistency, understanding each dog's unique personality, and using structure to create a harmonious home environment. If you want to strengthen your bond with your dog, prevent behavioral issues, and ensure long-term success in training, this episode is a must-listen!Support the showFollow Us On Instagram: @thinklikeadogpodcast @Mirrorimagek9 @OzzieAlbiesFoundation Work with Mirror Image K9 here: https://www.mirrorimagek9.com/contactusBe Our Guest: https://www.thinklikeadogpodcast.com Learn More About The Best Chance Program: https://www.ozziealbiesfoundation.org/

A Parenting Resource for Children’s Behavior and Mental Health
As parents, we want to ensure that our children are getting the right support, especially when they face complex challenges like PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) and PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcal Infections) or mood and behavioral issues. These conditions can be overwhelming, not just for the child but for the whole family. The impact of a strep infection on a child's brain can lead to sudden and severe changes in behavior, making it even more important for parents to be proactive in understanding their child's needs. That's why it's essential for parents to be on the same page and work together when it comes to being actively involved in their child's care. In addition, maintaining your own mental health is crucial in ensuring you can support your child effectively during this challenging time. When parents collaborate and share a clear understanding of how these conditions affect their child's behavior, it creates a more stable and supportive environment, which is vital for the child's well-being and long-term progress. It definitely makes a great difference when parents work together—when they get informed, show up, and support each other. How to work together as parents to support a child with PANS/PANDAS or mood or complex behavioral issues is crucial for creating a unified approach. Family members can also play a key role in providing support and understanding. So let's talk about those steps to get there, because your child deserves a team that's in sync. Not sure where to start? We'll help you find the right solution tailored to your needs. Healing isn't a quick fix. It's a journey, and it can feel so isolating and overwhelming - especially when you're trying to help your child heal. I know because I've been there, working through the endless nights of searching and hoping, visiting and investing in every kind of healthcare professional only to be faced with more questions than answers. That's why I created my course and why I now gift you free access with every Rebalance Kit. To ensure you have everything you need in order to truly heal. The title of this episode is You Will Never Fully Heal if You Don't Do This. Any guesses? Let me give you a hint: It has nothing to do with what you eat, the supplements you take, or even your genetics. It's not about the possible mold in your home or the level of stress in your life. So, what is it? It's something far more subtle yet incredibly powerful - your mindset. The way you think and what you believe about your ability to heal will make all the difference. It doesn't matter how many doctors have dismissed your concerns, how often your symptoms have been brushed off, or how many people have told you that you'll suffer for the rest of your life. Your mindset can either be your greatest ally or your biggest obstacle. Healing goes beyond simply following a regimen or taking the right supplements—it's about the energy and belief you bring into the process. Your thoughts and beliefs shape your reality, and when you truly believe in your ability to heal, you unlock the full potential of your body's natural healing powers.Links from the episode:Explore the Children's Gut Rebalance KitExplore the Women's Gut Rebalance KitExplore the Maintenance BundleExplore Balance CBDThanks for listening! So, you've just completed a gut rebalancing journey with my Women's or Children's Gut Rebalance Kits - congratulations! You've taken a beautiful step towards better health for you and your family. But there is something you need to know: gut health isn't a one-and-done deal. It's a lifelong relationship that needs care, attention, and yes, maintenance. How do you do this?Think of your gut like a garden. Depending on how many rebalances you needed to heal your symptoms, you have spent months planting seeds, watering them, and pulling out the weeds. Now, those seeds are sprouting into beautiful, healthy plants. But what happens if you stop watering them, if you let the weeds take over again? The garden's health will slowly decline, losing all the progress you made.Your gut microbiome works the same way. After the rebalancing phase, your gut is in a healthier state. The beneficial bacteria are thriving, and the harmful ones have been eliminated. But we are all chronically exposed to bad bacteria, pathogens, yeast, mold, heavy metals, fungus and parasites daily and if you don't work to intentionally maintain your balance, the imbalance can creep back in.In this episode I will teach you exactly what to do to maintain your microbiome balance. This is where the real magic happens. Where balance becomes your new natural state of existence and you thrive! When you or your child experience persistent symptoms - whether it's digestive discomfort, skin issues, mood swings, or chronic fatigue - you might not immediately connect these issues to your gut. I experienced this firsthand. After battling the healthcare system and fighting for my son's health for two and a half long, arduous years, I finally learned that his eczema, acid reflux, sour-smelling poop, chronic diarrhea, restless sleep, developmental delays, food cravings, sensory issues, and behavioral outbursts were all directly related to his gut health. Realizing this was a pivotal moment for our family. Understanding the link between these symptoms and a severe gut imbalance was the crucial first step in healing his body from the inside out. In this episode I will help you connect common symptoms to your gut so you can heal just like my son. ♡Links from the episode:Explore the Children's Gut Rebalance KitExplore the Women's Gut Rebalance KitExplore Balance CBDThanks for listening!
