After successfully completing Teen Challenge , cosmetology school and Bible school, she attended and completed Iris Global Leadership School. Jenny was able to share the Gospel in Mozambique , Tanzania, South Africa and Australia. Her heart is to see the homeless, mentally ill, those trapped in human trafficking, touched, delivered and transformed by the Gospel. She has used her gifting of cutting hair on the streets for the homeless. She has a passion to see those set, free, holistically, body, soul, and spirit. She is pursued natural health and know that all of this plays apart to healing our bodies. Together, they completed Kaleo Leadership School and have been ordained and sent out to reach the least and disciple individuals. Their hearts are to see lives and communities transformed by Gods love, presence and power. 3. I started using drugs and alcohol when i was 13 years old , looking for love , Acceptance, and value in all the wrong places. It led me down a very dark place until I was 23 years old. By that time, I was addicted to drugs and alcohol, using heroin every day and smoking crack at night. It was a very dark season of my life. I felt hopeless, Ashamed, hated myself, very lonely, lost, depressed, never felt like I would ever be good enough for anything. I came to a very desperate place in my life where I cried out for help , God Rescued me when I was 23 years old I went into Teen Challenge a faith-based recovery home and my life has never been the same. That dark season shaped my in such an incredible way because my story is my passion to help others ! Here are 2 defining moments that shaped me in these last few years ! 1) 2020 of February we were away on a date weekend and we came home to our house burning down. it was an older mobile home and when we got home, everything was destroyed. In a moment, we lost our home, all our belongings, God spared my new son stuff that was only a baby. All I heard was, I will work all things out for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose. We had no money no place to go, but the Lord has just given us a church building . That week we had an ice storm where everything was frozen and shut down. The Lord provided aThat week we had an ice storm where everything was frozen and shut down. The Lord provided a place for us to stay for two weeks. right before the storm we went to sleep and we mentioned to each other it's going to be so cold. How could we have a building and not open our building for the homeless. So for one week we did an emergency shelter at the church building. It was the only building in that whole area that had electricity throughout the whole storm. we had nowhere to live yet God was calling us to take care of the homeless. It was a season of Depending and trusting on God. After that one week when we close the shelter down. That day, the Lord provided a home, Provided all the furniture and everything we needed for a home, provided financial blessings from all over the world to help us. We were beyond amazed and blessed for God‘s love and abundance and that season. 2) Another Defining moment for us was this last season the Lord has used betrayal, Disappointment, lost, and a lot of pain to shape us in a beautiful way! We went through two of our closest leaders betraying us, A lot of division on our team, too, leaving our building and taking a season of sabbatical and rest for our family and for our souls. I think one of the most beautiful lessons I've learned in the season is don't skim through grief, disappointment or loss, but allow the Lord to heal your heart, work through the pain of growth and don't be Afraid to step back as a leader to deal with the more important things of the heart. This season we have learned the importance of Rest, delight, replenish and allowing the heart to heal ! Truly know the meaning of Psalms 23 The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want, he makes me lay down and green pastures , He Leads me by Still-waters , He restores my soul, He leads me in the path of righteousness for his name sake. We launched the G.I.V.E project , Our heart still love, God and love people! Motto - Go impart Value to Everyone - GIVE compassion - GIVE the Gospel ! we wanted to create an easy tool to empower people to give compassion and give the gospel with easy resources, but also with giving value to the person receiving. So we created compassion kits to empower those that it's easy to give. The compassion kits have a QR code with resources to whatever city or state you're in to the shelters, food, bank, etc., we also have a questionnaire if you are being trafficked by someone you have a number to call ! everything is on the website if you have any questions. We are also working on getting our certification for anti-human trafficking so we can others on the signs of it and also create outreaches to different churches and community through the US. We want to see These compassion kits in every city and throughout the United States. https://givevalue.org
In this sermon we continue with the "He Leads Me" series part 5, looking at how the captain - Jesus/ Holy Spirit, can sometimes tell us to go there, don't go there or stay here. We look at how Holy Spirit leads Paul and Philip in Acts and they heard him. Do we then hear Holy Spirit when He Leads and are we obedient to what He says? Ps Jacques challenges us to to seek Jesus in this way- that He becomes the only captain in our lives. Enjoy!

On today's episode of the "Helping Families Be Happy" podcast, host Dr. Carla Marie Manley talks to June Smalls. She will be talking about her upcoming book, "Hear Them Roar: 14 endangered animals from around the world". June shares how we do so many things naturally and can do more of them that mimic the animal world which would be really good for us. Episode Highlights 2.02: June talks about her love for reading and writing books at an early age. She got serious about sharing her work with the world back in 2013. That is when she joined the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and started looking for critique groups. 3.11: June talks about the book written by her - She Leads, that's part of a series. Then there is - He Leads which is about the mountain gorilla and then the follow-up book that will be out in the fall - They lead, which is about the Gray Wolf Pack. So, we have different leaders and different family structures throughout the animal kingdom. 05.14: June talks about her upcoming book and the research that she did and all challenges she faced. 07.15: June makes the sound of a baby rhinoceros. She shares how they make they make little, tiny sounds that should be coming out of a much smaller animal. 08.15: June and Carla talk about poaching and how rhinos are endangered because of it. 10.16: The best thing when we look at animal families is that we see that there is no one way to be a perfect family. And there are some animals that are solitary that are only with their parents for the first couple of years when they're growing and then they are solitary. 12.18: June shares how as a family, there are so many different ways to be a family and to help each other. 13.19: As per Carla, we often forget in today's busy world, the importance of playing together. 16.46: Childhood and families, sometimes they are messy, sometimes it's not always perfect, says June. 17.21: June shares how reading a book together is a way to bond and a way to open and spark conversations. 19.51: The good thing about nonfiction animal books, is we are going to mention that there is birth, which is beautiful, and there is death, which is hard, and there are struggles those animals don't always eat every day, and sometimes that can open a conversation about different animals. 22.56: June talks about flying foxes and how they are endangered. They are megabats, but they are so important because they are just like butterflies and honeybees because they pollinate, they eat fruits, and they eat the nectar out of the flowers. 3 Key Points June explains how she sees books about families, animal families, extinct animals, and all of that as a package. How can the book make families happier? How does this impact families? There is the capacity for us to not only see different ways of doing things through the animal world but realizing we can incorporate those into our own lives in beneficial ways because sometimes it does take more than a single mom or a mom and dad or a single dad to raise a child. June shares some of the key lessons that she can offer to her listeners about the importance of reading for family, togetherness, family happiness, and having parent, child caregiver, and child reading together. Tweetable Quotes "Some animals are so rare that even though we have had them in captivity, we don't have any recorded sounds for them." - June "There are so many elements when we look at the animal world where they are working together while being part of a family, and it sounds like that makes these animals much happier." - Carla "I would rather help support a child to be a B student who is happy and well-rounded than an A student who is stressed and anxious and unhappy." - June "If you are afraid of bats, look up the flying fox eating a banana, then you will never be afraid of bats again." - June Resources Mentioned Helping Families be Happy Podcast Apple https://junesmalls.com/ Podcast Editing
The thumb is the captain of the other fingers. He Leads them to battle. He bears the weight of the bar but can only do so with the support of his team. The thumb is not making a sacrifice. It is merely showing his squad that he is willing to put his life on the line for each of his men. This display of courage boost overall morale of the whole squad leading to more successful missions than compared to the squad where the thumb hides behind his men while they fight for their lives. Sounds like a great coupla of weeks. There is a varied mix of celebratory and solemn events coming up, for sure, each deserving of our attention. So, make plan, if you can. AND remember: Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened! No Regerts! This morning, we buried my sister Noreen. To our listeners, thank you for all if the hugs, well wishes, shared stories and friendship. At her passing, she was surrounded by all of her kids, grandkids, siblings and our parents. She said several times as we all prayed together, that she was at peace, and I believe that she is. We each told of what will always remind her of us, of how we know she is near when we see it, and she smiled as best she could. She could hear our conversation, tho her oxygen assisted breath was labored. “I am fine, I am fine” she said. We cannot do justice to her heart, her fight, her grace, her faith, her smile, her active support of so many, and her deep love for God. This is Noreen's Alliteration I see you in the water, when you wouldn't let me drown I see you in the in the music, as opposed to watching The Crown I see you on the ice, and a fistfight with the male bully I got your glasses safe; the lessons I absorbed, fully I see you singing at Erieview High, in Annie Get Your Gun impressions I see you in your young Annie, the motions and facial expressions I hear you in my head, with gentle little nudges Cape Cod –trying to teach me to smile, we wept over the judges The green crash and Roger Fallon, the IA at West 93rd Camogie, The Jerk, the front porch, the sounds I never heard At times we had like-minded magic, at times we had Dairy Queen And of course, we had St. Patrick's Day, laughing over everything, so obnoxiously green The stories of Mike, the depths of love, the hope running ever eternal Watching you raise your kids, trying not to laugh, while eyes seemed fire infernal Instilling the love, of God & country, and the one across the pond The door always open; the kettle always boiling, of this we are inordinately fond I see you in the church, and the bishop embracing The love of God rising by day, so many trials head on facing I see you Irish dancing, and thinking, Hell NO Why did you have to leave us, with so many joys still to go? I bid you farewell; watch over your kids and theirs too There's nothing stronger than a mother's love, for what else can a mother do? Tho you fret, though you worried, you will always be adored Rest in peace, Dear Noni, in the gentle arms of our Lord *** Noreen's obituary reads: Noreen O'Brien Beardmore April 28, 1961 - June 13, 2021 Noreen Theresa (O'Brien) Beardmore passed away on Sunday, June 13 at home, surrounded by her family. Her last hours were filled with faith, praying rosaries with friends the night before her passing and with her family the morning of. Noreen fought a vigorous battle with cancer and her family considers the battle won as her whole life is a miracle. Noreen was born in Montreal, Canada to Irish immigrant parents on April 28, 1961 and was the oldest of four children. As a devout Catholic family, the O'Brien's never missed Mass. When they moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1963, their home melded the best of Irish-American culture, including a beloved Irish festival that the whole family participated in running. Noreen graduated from the all-girls Catholic high school St. Joseph's Academy in Cleveland, Ohio in 1979 and was class president. Cleveland served as the highly social platform for her upbringing as she attended dances, organized fundraisers, and navigated the city working various jobs to earn money for school. Noreen attended Duquesne University to study nursing. While at Duquesne, she was awarded the Heinz scholarship for women in global leadership which allowed her to travel to many different countries. When asked during the interview process about which quality defined her most, she said, "I am, above all things, a Catholic." Noreen was truly a very devout woman. She hungered to know the teachings of the faith and to love Jesus more and more. She spent time volunteering at St. Boniface Parish, the Lafayette Catholic Schools System, and to personal prayer and growth in faith. As a nurse, Noreen was the first person in Ohio to be accepted by the Amish community to give immunizations. She was tender with patients and loved her career as pediatric nurse. It is how she met her husband, pediatrician Mike Beardmore. Noreen married Mike in 1990 and they moved to Lafayette, Indiana. Their marriage was one of deep love, hard work, and beautifully shared values. Together they raised 8 children and sent them all through Catholic schools. Noreen and Mike built a family that was centered on humor, music, quality time, and faith. They too ensured that Mass was never missed, and family dinner was central to their lives together. Noreen served as a member of the Governance Board of the Catholic Schools and started a Catholic moms group called "What Would Mary Do?" Unofficially, she was known for seeking out new moms in the parking lot or recognizing when young moms were having a tough time. Noreen loved to connect people with new friends or opportunities that used their gifts. Later in life she worked as the Health & Safety coordinator for the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana. When Noreen was diagnosed with cancer, the family committed fervently to family rosaries and she brought many others into the fold. A weekly zoom rosary was started for friends from around the country and in Ireland to pray together for healing. These friends say it was an inspiring group to be part of, par for the course for a friendship with Noreen. Recently Noreen was given the "He Leads, I Follow" Award from St. Boniface Principal Sr. Lenore and former pastor Fr. Tim Alkire. Noreen was presented a statue of Blessed Mother Maria Theresia Bonzel for the goodness and humanity she has shown to so many people. Noreen wasn't perfect. She wasn't good at cooking eggs until her later years. She frequently told her children that she couldn't hear herself think. And she kept far too many Martha Stewart magazines with very little intention of ever reading them again. But those closest to her say that she always knew the right thing to say. She was everyone's shoulder to cry on. And her children would have rathered had a short amount of time with her as a mother than a lifetime with any other. There was always room at the table with Noreen and her magazine-worthy garden doesn't compare to the blooms of friendships she cultivated and kept around the world. Her family is certain that she will work even harder from Heaven for her friends and family and encouraged everyone to reach out in prayer to Noreen throughout their lives. Noreen is survived by her loving husband, Mike and her eight children: Caitie, Tommy (fiancé Natasha), Brian, John & Casey, Will, Michael, Annie & Caroline. She has two grandchildren: Henry & Peter. She is also survived by her parents; John & Eileen O'Brien of Cleveland, her sisters Cathy (John Lang)of Cincinnati and Patricia (Philip Parente) and brother, John, Jr. of Cleveland. She has 11 nieces and nephews who have always meant so much to her. Proceeding her in death is her infant daughter, Mary Clare, who the family knows greeted her excitedly in Heaven. Although Noreen loved flowers, what would mean most to her would be the Catholic education of more children. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Lafayette Catholic School System. *** I need time. I can't look back, over the pain. How does life go on, when death quakes our earth? Who is he? 1. He Restores a Covenant (vv. 1-7) 2. He Leads in Worship (vv. 8-12) 3. He Arranges for Peace (vv. 13-27)
He Leads, He Restores, He Comforts, He Disciplines, He Vindicates, He Preserves
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.4 Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Verse 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. This scripture is clear and intentional - HE LEADS! We have surrendered to His Divine Leadership - HE LEADS ME We also saw the word 'lead' in v2, However they are different Hebrew words - Hebrew word in v2 - to lead, give rest, lead with care, guide to a watering place or station, cause to rest, bring to a station or place of rest, guide, refresh. Hebrew word in v3 - to bring, to govern, to guide. Wisdom is to trust in God: God denounces this spirit: “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” (Isa. 5:21), because such a spirit leads to self-dependence, and is inconsistent with His leadership in our lives! The great hindrance to all true wisdom is the thought that we have already attained it "He Leads me" There is nothing that comes out more clearly in Scripture than the individual care granted to all who trust in God, exactly adapted to the various conditions and circumstances of each. I can boldly say, I am under the expert management, and compassionate, tender care of the Good Shepherd! For full episode notes head to hz.church/podcast

Last week: 1) Jesus' greatest commandments involve relationships - Love God and People 2) Paul wrote: put to death or take off like filthy clothes (sexual immorality, anger, lies) they are toxic to relationships. 3) As children of God, put on compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience. 4) Over it all put on love. Colossians 3:15-17 15. "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts." Peace - well-being, wholeness. B/c of what Jesus has done, my soul is well. "Rule" is to umpire or judge. Let peace rule in your hearts, home, church. Set the table with peace. Have you been around a table of anger? Discord? Jealousy? Criticism? When we live in the peace of Christ, we reflect his image and his work in us. 16. "Let the word of Christ dwell in (each of ) you richly. " Let Christ's words live with you, influence you, like your companion. Inward: let the word of Christ dwell in you. Outward: Teaching and admonishing each other. You cannot be a stranger to the word of Christ and have wisdom to share. Singing has been a part of Christianity from the beginning. Music is a gift to express our faith or to worship God or declare his goodness. These are all part of the Christian ethos. 17. Do everything in the name of The Lord Jesus. Reflect Jesus in all that you do. Be intentional in living to honor God. Paul moves on to answer the question, how do I glorify God in my home? Martin Luther referred to passages like these as haustafel or "house-table" a list of rules for life at home. The idea carries from v. 17, in your relationships honor The Lord. For your whole life thought and behavior, in the church and in your family, at home and at work - honor the name of The Lord Jesus Christ. Colossians 3:18-21 Paul addresses three relationships in each. He first speaks to the subordinate party first, but then addresses both parties in each relationship. 18. Wives are asked to voluntarily submit to their husbands - in The Lord. It is not absolute surrender of her will. Nor is there any thought that she is inferior to her husband. Paul uses this same word to describe Jesus and he is lord of all. Her submission is in response to her relationship with Jesus. Her submission honors her husband and affirms his leadership in their home. 19. The parallel: the husband is to love his wife. Agape is used here, the word for God's love: selfless, self-giving, unconditional, serving her for her entire well-being. Keeping his wife's ultimate good at all times. He Leads by serving her well. Do not "be harsh" (embitter). It is hard to submit. It is hard to love self-sacrificially. Sin in us pushes back on those commands. Ultimately, we want marriage to be about us, meeting our needs, fulfilling us. Ladies, when you submit to your husband, you honor Jesus Christ. Men, when you love your wife sacrificially as Jesus loves his bride, you honor him. Your marriage is not primarily about your fulfillment, but about honoring God. Many people walk around feeling sorry for themselves that they aren't getting enough out of their marriage. "I'm just not getting all my needs met." You're not going to. No one gets all their needs met in marriage. There isn't a man or woman who can meet all your perceived needs. But we serve a Savior Who does. If you are looking for fulfillment, you will find it in him. Then you can willingly submit, love sacrificially. 20. Children, obey your parents in everything. Why? It pleases The Lord. Obey tour parents out of a desire to please The Lord. 21. Fathers, do not provoke your children lest they become discouraged. "Provoke" - stir up. Constantly criticizing or never acknowledging their effort. That they can never measure up to your expectations, that they are of no worth Your children are not primarily about your fulfillment, but about honoring God. Colossians 3:22-24. There is no sacred/secular divide. Even at work, you are serving The Lord.
In most things in line almost is not good enough. We can go to many things, but unless we go through it, we have not accomplished anything. If a runner running the race does not cross the finish line, he has not accomplished anything. Sometimes God leads us to it, and we must rely on Him to lead us through it. There may be an obstacle in our path, but God has brought us to something to see us through it. God did not bring us to the valley to leave us. He LEADS us through the valley. We need to rejoice in going through something, because on the other side is blessing. If we are going through something, God hears our cry and will pick us up out of the miry clay and set them on solid ground. We sometimes question God when we are going through something. It is not a sin to do this. job questioned God, but He did not sin in doing so. After Job questioned, God replied that He had some questions. His questions put into perspective that God has it all in His control. We do not have to understand what we may be facing, but God knows. He knows the beginning and the ending. The God that can create the heavens and the earth can more than handle whatever problem we may have. He knows what He is doing. He will get us through it. In our text Moses was leading the people out of Egypt. When God called him, Moses doubted and protested. God simply said go. Every time there seemed to be an obstacle, God provided a way through miracles and wonders. When they reached the Red Sea, Moses did not know how to do it, but God provided him with instructions. God brought Israel to the Red Sea and then through it. There was certainly fear and wonder in them as they walked on the dry seabed with walls of water on both sides. The did not understand what was happening, but they went through. When they got to the other side, they still had to endure the wilderness. Sometimes when we get through something, God needs to take us through something else. Through it all, God has it in control. God does not bring us to an obstacle and leave us there. He is right there with us along the way.
The church is the BRIDE of Christ: HE takes time for us. He speaks what He means - He is not vague and doesn’t beat around the bush. He knows our perceptions cloud the truth, which is why He LEADS us into all truth. BUT HE DOES LISTEN, any and every time we speak. And His Spirit feeds back our perceptions verses His reality. http://vimeo.com/27677304 http://www.flickr.com/photos/ourelement/6040937284/in/photostream
Life can be like an unmarked road; Blind curves, unmarked cross roads. Life can be filled with mistakes. Life passes before us, and we get one chance at it. It is important that we get life right. It can be easy to lose or way, or to be unsure of the next step. Jesus provides us with a sense of direction. When Jesus is leading our life, nothing can happen us that is outside of His divine purpose. If he is leading, everything is going to be okay. The text is careful to say that He LEADS me not He DRIVES me. Bro. Hughes tells us that if He is leading, He is in the same situation we are. If He is leading, He is going ahead of us up the mountain or down into the valley. By leading, He is taking us down the right paths. The ones that will produce the best results and that are like Him. He leads because He knows the needs of the sheep. Sheep have several habits and tendencies that are destructive to themselves. If left to themselves, they will over graze a pasture. They will not return to the barn at night, they have no sense of direction. People are the same way. They will return to the same destructive situations and places over and over. The good shepherd directs his flock to new pastures each day to ensure that there is adequate food. The single greatest thing that the shepherd does to ensure the safety of his flock is to keep them moving. If we will but follow Him, He will lead us to the right places for the right reasons.
