AND THE DEAD SHALL RISE AND WALK THE EARTH! City of the Living Dead (as it is known in the U.S) was released in 1981. The late, great Lucio Fulci made this movie, and it is the first in his famous trilogy that also contained House by the Cemetery and the masterpiece The Beyond. It is a truly hallucinogenic movie, featuring crazy set pieces and disturbing gore. Why not celebrate this 4th of July with a little gorefest. Join us for a horror movie review of City of the Living Dead in Part 1 of our Gates of Hell Trilogy retrospective. check out Gore-Aphobe's channel here: https://youtube.com/channel/UCgpseO2T...

Happy October! Hope we can kick off your spooky season with a horrific and violent trilogy of movies by the Italian horror legend Lucio Fulci called the Gates of Hell. While the movies aren't connected beyond a general theme of....death, hell, gore, rot, Catarina Maccoll...and just pure screaming terror. Enjoy!!
This week we're talking about one of the top horror directors. Lucio Fulci was prominent in the Italian gialo film movement (from the late 1960's through early 1980's). His three films in the "Gates Of Hell" trilogy are considered some of his best. They include; "City Of The Living Dead" (1980), "The Beyond" (1981), and "The House By The Cemetery" (1981). I'm saving his other classic "Zombi"/"Zombie 2" for a later date. Hallmarks of Fulci films include: lots of gore, almost always an eye gouging scene, and an often confusing plot. Don't try to understand the specifics of what's going on. Instead view the movie as a dream and you'll enjoy it much better. And in honor of Fulci's homeland, I've included some iconic Italian dishes. Number 1 is ALWAYS pizza but dont forget about lasagna, polenta, ossobuco, risotto, carbonara, focccia, and gelato. We reviewed these films out of order and compiled all 3 reviews into one special bonus episode of the Last Roundup Horror Show. The "Gates Of Hell" trilogy is an unofficial "trilogy" consisting of three Lucio Fulci films: City of the Living Dead (1980 film), AKA The Gates of Hell, Twilight of the Dead, and Paura nella città dei morti viventi The Beyond (1981 film) AKA L'aldilà and Seven Doors of Death The House by the Cemetery (1981 film) AKA Quella villa accanto al cimite CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD: In this gory Lucio Fulci splatter film, a reporter and a psychic race to Dunwich to close the Gates of Hell after the suicide of a clergyman caused them to open, allowing the dead to rise from the grave. THE BEYOND: Louisiana's haunted Seven Doors Hotel has been home to a string of bizarre and supernatural tragedies, beginning with the lynching of a warlock in the hotel's cellar in 1927. When a young woman tries to re-open the hotel, she inadvertently opens one of the "Seven Doors of Death", allowing the dead to return to Earth. THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY: A plot that revolves around a series of murders taking place in the Oak Mansion – a New England home which happens to be hiding a particularly gruesome secret within its basement walls.

Actually, I'm not sure why this is a trilogy, to be honest. Mamma Mia! I studio: Chris CalzoneyLes merEpisode 76: Gates of Hell Trilogy
Lee and Paul kick off October by covering the other two parts of Lucio Fulci's so-called Gates of Hell Trilogy, "City of the Living Dead" (1980) & "The Beyond" (1981). Including-in "House by the Cemetery" (which was covered here on the podcast two years ago), is this really a trilogy? Which is the best film of the three? Do any of these films make any sense? The hosts drunkenly ponder these questions inbetween several cuts from Fabio Frizzi's amazing scores for the films. They also talk about what they've watched and purchased as of late, and cover a plethora of listener comments. City of the Living Dead IMDB The Beyond IMDB Featured Music: "Suoni Dissonanti"; "Apoteosi Del Mistero"; "Verso L'ignoto" & "Voci dal Nula" by Fabio Frizzi.
