For this week's Select, we have Berlin-based underground DJ/producer duo Marko & Bene, aka Longhair. Arguably one of the leading figures in the electronic dance scene, they're known for their devilishly pumping and harmoniously uplifting sets that dabble in versatile shades of hazy house, with influences that range from disco and balearic to trance and electro. Earlier this year, the duo released ‘Surf & Turf' EP on the famed London-based label OPIA Records, a deep and progressive house fusion of futuristic funk and dreamy rave nostalgia across four cuts. For their select set, Longhair came in with a pulse-pounding house set, featuring psychedelic layers, acid-licks and rousing synth-heavy grooves with hip-thrusting kicks, combined with a subtle pinch of trance-like repetitive rhythms. The set features tunes by famous international producers such as Eddie Richards, Nanami Togarashi and Hidden Spheres.

Bside Incoming: Ruben Spa Reflecting on Episode 100 with the incredible Detroit In Effect, we just wanted to thank all the people that tune into Bside Podcasts, to everyone who reaches out to us with positive feedback, and of course to all the fabulous guests who take the time to share with us their life's work of collecting, curating, and sharing all the beautiful music in the world. Without wanting to sit back and admire this landmark, we move on from number 100 with an international superstar to Episode 101 with someone very close to our heart and an integral member of the Bside team: Ruben Spa With a big love of music, his graphic design skills, and some social media wizardry, his creativity and passion continues to drive the project forward. Ruben Spa continues to build upon his invaluable knowledge of the industry with his involvement at the Surefire agency. He also runs the Koselig event series in Edinburgh, who booked Hidden Spheres for an evening of mid-week madness at Sneaky Pete's, before which we recorded an incredible live episode of the podcast. It was actually his co-founder of Koselig, James Cook, who recorded the very first episode for the Bside podcast. Over 2 years have passed since then, and the platform has grown substantially: 99 other guests and more than 60,000 listens from all over the world, and lots more in the works. So, it felt only right that our beloved Ruben Spa, should welcome us into the second century of Bside. Happy 1st Birthday Bside! We cant believe it's already been a whole year. And what a year it's been. We have brought you 25 fortnightly shows, releasing some of the finest Bsides from selectors near (Edinburgh and Glasgow) and far (Dublin, London, Naples, Berlin, Lyon, and NYC). It's been a great privilege to host some of our biggest inspirations including Glenn Astro, Gnork, Hidden Spheres, Waxist, and Bobby Analog onto the Bside airwaves, and a pleasure to showcase the music to you lot. It is safe to say we are really grateful for all the support and anyone who has come along and listened to the mixes live, or streamed it online. To celebrate such an occasion Bside's boss man, Calum Archibald, delves deep into his collection and extracts some of his personal favourites from the flip side. If you've seen him spinning records with Samedia Shebeen, the EDL (Edinburgh Disco Lovers), or Disco Makossa, or even warming up for the likes of O'flynn, Marshal Jefferson, and Aroop Roy then you know what to expect: Disco, Soul, Jazz from across the globe, some soothing house rhythms and of course a selection of floaty electro and breakbeat. The Map of Existence -- Internal Energy (chapters 1-48) Divine Structure: The Supernal Man of Atzilus (chapters 5-17) The Hidden Spheres Ayin Beis Volume 1, Discourse 4, Chapter 15, p. 24-25 The root of the relatively formless energy is in the ten hidden sefirot (eser sefiros ha'genuzos) (the Pardes holds that the ten hidden sefirot are the root of the containers, which means that the energies are entirely formless. But according to the discussion here the energies have some abstract form, and thus are rooted in the ten hidden sefirot). But above the ten hidden sefirot is the infinite divine energy that has no shape and form at all, and is beyond any sefirot (even in their most abstract form). This answers a question about an apparent contradiction between the Zohar (Idra) where uit appears that Atik is the Divine Essence, and the Arizal who states that there are level higher than Atik (A"k and akudim), even higher than the Atik above A"k. And also, that in Zohar it states that Atik has a structure (of a skull, eyes, mind, which reflect ten sefirot) -- how can that be if Atik is Atzmus, which is beyond all sefirot? This is answered according to the above: Atik of A"k is the level of the ten hidden sefirot (yechida of A'k, with the kav being chaya or neshama, and the circles and line being nefesh and ruach of A"k), which are all encompassed in the divine infinite light, ayn sof, before the tzimtzum (and the kav emerges from its lowest level, malcuht of malchut of ayn sof), and are therefore Atik is called Atzmus. But it still contains structure (the ten sefirot), being the source of the defined kav. Unlike the higher levels of the divine infinite light that reveals the essence, which has no relationship with sefirot. Concepts: Ten Hidden Sefirot; Atik and Atzmus

After a string of mixes from international DJs, (Gnork, Bobby Analog & Hidden Spheres) it was time to return to some Scottish talent. For Ep. 16 we invited the Glaswegian duo - Rhys & Matt. As always on Bside, the DJs were only allowed to play the B-Side of their favourite records. Having only recently started integrating a CDJ into their sets, the pair have an extensive record collection. They take us on a smooth trip, showcasing some of their favourite wax. The mix starts with some breaks & spacey chords, then progresses into some extraterrestrial house sounds, and finishes with some club equip techno. Rhys & Matt both are heavily involved with @subclub, both in promotions and DJing. Recently Matt was in charge of setting the tone for Harri & Dom, as well as Model 500 for Subculture.
