In honor of Ken's new Golden Retriever - Brandy., We welcome back Kristina Flanagan, retired psychotherapist, MSW, Vedic astrologer and graduate of Richard Rohr's Living School. At Kristina's invitation (after Ken invited himself!), Ken and Carolyn spent a few days in a beautiful casita on her property, a lovely expanse of New Mexico's rolling hills and meadows just south of Santa Fe. She, her architect, and contractor completed the pleasing structures just a few years ago, a place of retreat and renewal she calls "La Molina." Kristina shares her journey - from her undergraduate years at Stanford University to her focus on social work, therapy, Enneagram, and eight visits to India. More recently, she discovered the writings of Fr. Richard Rohr. Kristina has served on the Boards of Directors at both the San Francisco and Santa Fe Operas. She is a lover of art - sculptures, paintings, and water features adorn La Molina at every turn. For more than a decade, her passion has been her horses. She is Chairman of the Board of a non-profit called A Chance of a Lifetime where she works closely with the organization's founders. They are authentic "horse-whisperers." The website says this: "Our environment fosters interaction and companionship with the herd where we build respect, trust, patience, empowerment, awareness, acceptance and vulnerability as we nurture a deeper experience of the horse–human relationship." Kristina relays her rich experience of building and living at La Molina. Ken is now a witness of how this extraordinary place transforms, heals, and awakens the spirit. Anna Twinney never expected to make a career out of horse whispering, animal communicating, and energy healing. After all, she was a police officer in England specializing in trauma. But then as a way to deal with burnout, she found herself in California working with Monty Roberts and learning the art of horse training and horse whispering. Anna went on to create the Reach Out to Horses® Program, a hands-on approach to understanding the mind of the horse and building a trust-based partnership. She now conducts clinics and workshops worldwide, from New Zealand to Mongolia, Europe to Canada and throughout the United States. She shares some amazing stories with Russell and Alan about horses, domesticated and wild, but also dogs, and even two elephants at a zoo. (You can check out her event schedule here.)
I had no idea that I'd end up boarding our horses with one of the greatest horse whisperers of all time this summer in Colorado. He turned out to be a friend of a friend of a friend, and was described to me as more of a horse person than a people person. Real horse people usually understand this about one another and get along anyways, which we did.A few things of note about this amazing interview: Johnny had the honor of blessing our horse trailer with our very first interview EVER inside the dream horse trailer itself! This was a very special moment for us, as the audio went great with all the soft walls. Our trailer had been parked at Green Mesa Ranch for over a week at that point, and I had been joking with Johnny about wanting to do an interview the whole time, but it was not until this moment that it actually transpired, and it was awesome. Prior to our interview, he gave me a portfolio of magazine articles, and newspaper clippings about his work over the past few decades, so I knew I was in for a treat if he'd let me record our conversation. Johnny Leverett is also just an all around stand up character, to know him is to laugh with him, and there is a lightness in the air when he works. It was truly an honor. The other thing about this connection is that he worked with my horse Jet. Honestly, I have not had anyone work with Jet in many, many years, doing most of the work myself, but to have a professional with so much experience work with and fall in love with my horse was very special. It was amazing to see someone else's approach to the same problem I had been dealing with for years in a new way. Through this journey, we reached a solution that i had not been able to find in nearly fourteen years together. If you want to see videos of Johnny working with Jet, mosey on over to social media for some reels that I will be uploading. @catcaldwellmyersCat Caldwell Myerswww.catcaldwellmyers.comIf you would like to meet me in person in LA or participate in a LIVE virtual event that I am speaking at on October 8th, click this link:https://jasmin-manke.mykajabi.com/a/2147667648/9boDbCPJJust says "buy the book on Amazon!"Support the showUpcoming events:The 2024 Adventure Paradox Digital Course HOLIDAY PRESALEConnect with me here:www.catcaldwellmyers.com@catcaldwellmyersThe Adventure Paradox Podcast Page (Fb)

Horse whisperer, leadership expert, and author Grant Golliher has spent a lifetime around horses. He knows how they think. What's more, he knows how that thinking can help humans. Grant joins Russell and Alan to talk about what leaders—from business CEOs and execs, to politicians, celebrities, and others—learn from horses at the Diamond Cross Ranch in Wyoming.
“Trust is not just a feeling. It's also an action, and it's a process that happens over time. Be slow to take, and quick to give.” These are just some of the gems that Grant Golliher has picked up in three decades of horse whispering, training, and teaching the art of trust-building. Today we're talking about what horses can teach us about reading people and intuition. More About Grant: Grant Golliher is a horseman and the proprietor of the historic Diamond Cross Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where he teaches corporate executives, coaches, celebrities, and families from all around the world the skills necessary to tame troubled horses and become leaders and better people. Today we're talking about his new book, Think Like a Horse: Lessons in Life, Leadership, and Empathy from an Unconventional Cowboy.

Welcome to another episode of the DNA Of Purpose. When it comes to purpose the last place you might expect to find meaning is straight from the horse's mouth. Today that is precisely where we will be finding inspiration. After all, it is in the reflection of a wild horse, (or more specifically how that horse behaves in our presence) that we learn more about how we present ourselves to the world, and how we express our DNA Of Purpose through energy and emotion as opposed to the words that we say.Today's guest is the one and only Koelle Simpson who is a world-renowned life coach, horse whisperer, and leader of the Equus Coaching Movement. After experiencing early childhood trauma, horses became an important part of her journey to rebuilding a sense of trust in herself and the world around her. The safety, honesty, and wisdom she witnessed in these powerful four-legged teachers offered a profound and playful roadmap to reconnect with her own inner wisdom.Since then, Koelle has been honored to study with some of the world’s greatest teachers including world-renowned equine trainer, Monty Roberts, and best-selling author, life coach, and O Magazine columnist, Dr. Martha Beck. Koelle’s own work has been featured in O Magazine, BBC Business Report, the National Journal, the OWN Network and TEDx. She works with individuals and institutions around the world including South Africa, Europe, the UAE, Canada, and the United States. In 2006, Koelle founded the Koelle Institute for Equus Coaching out of a desire (and demand!) to share her life-transforming insights with others. The Institute has evolved into a remarkable community of compassionate and highly skilled Equus Coaches dedicated to facilitating transformative encounters with horses. Koelle is in awe of where her journey has led thus far. As a humble student of life, she marvels at the magic and resilience of the human spirit, and hopes to continue serving others.

What does horse whispering have in common with entrepreneurship? More than you might think; unless you are already running your own show and know exactly how fickle taming a wild new business can be! I loved this conversation with Elaine Kenney on her trials as a single mom building a business, her resilience in the face of dips and defeat, her obsession with horses, and how she navigates every next phase with joy, grace, and perseverance. Topics that caught my eye for this episode are volunteering and loan agreements. Volunteering at equestrian events is brilliant for meeting people, if like me you have a small circle of horsey friends. I also find it a great way of learning new things and seeing different parts of the country. You also never know what may happen! Listen to see what @SophiexJane witnessed. Loan agreements have been around for ages and we're no stranger to loans going wrong. One police force is reiterating the importance of having an agreement in place if you are loaning your horse as incidences of loan's going wrong is on the increase. Do some research and get an agreement drawn up to make sure you maintain 'ownership' and control of your horse as best you can while they're out on loan. It may also lend weight to your case if it goes wrong. It's a fascinating chat and one that really makes you think about how you interact with horses on an individual level - Kingsmead's website is - www.kingsmeadhorses.co.uk Telephone - 0208 657 0832 Mobile - 07834 181614 Facebook - Kingsmead Equestrian Centre Twitter and Instagram - @KingsmeadHorses About Kingsmead Here at Kingmead we offer a combination of natural and traditional horsemanship to give every rider an understanding of the horses as we believe a good relationship and clear communication between horse and rider is the key to success. We welcome riders of all age and abilities. Our coaches work closely with each rider and together we plan a programme for you to work on and enjoy. We offer lessons in one of our three schools or if you prefer we can offer coaching whilst out hacking. Our primary aim is for riders to feel happy and confident; from these foundations everything else can grow. At Kingsmead Horses we can offer regular riding throughout the year or a one off session. Our all inclusive ethos caters for any age and ability; we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming environment combined with a tailored learning programme. We have chosen not to impose an arbitrary weight limit for our riders. Children with emotional, behavioural and social challenges can achieve and find working with the horses a highly rewarding experience. We have a range of suitable ponies who enjoy working with our riders with physical limitations. Many of our riders start out with our lead rein lessons where they can gain confidence and basic riding skills before progressing to our group lessons. Our lead rein rides are great for children and adults alike and many riders find they make excellent progress while enjoying the countryside. During these rides you may get to see a range of wildlife from foxes to deer, we have also seen buzzards, owls, pheasants as well a more usual birds and in the spring you can enjoy an abundance of bluebells and other native flowers. We cater for adult riders (as well as children), some starting out for the first time and others returning to riding after a long break, we have a range of horses to suit every one. We aim offer riding and social events including talks and outings. Please let us know if you would be interested in joining us , we welcome your feedback and ideas. At Kingsmead we offer an innovative approach to riding, by using Ground Work (sometimes known as Natural Horsemanship or Horse Whispering) riders can gain a deeper understanding about how their emotions impact on their horses and their riding. Working on the ground can enable nervous riders to see how they are influencing their horse when ridden whilst our more confident riders can explore ways to get the best from their mount. Ground Work involves anything from quiet moments with their pony to completing obstacle courses and playing ball games. You can see the pleasure on the handler's faces as they 'join up' with their pony and the pony follows them where ever they chose to go; having that relationship with a horse, even for such a short time, is truly amazing. We use Ground Work in our Equine Assisted Learning Programmes. We have a particular interest in complementary education alongside formal learning. We have young people here doing work experience to support their education and we provide regular riding for a number of children who are educated out of school. We offer a range of nationally recognised qualifications and can assist with the riding element of their GCSE's.

Alan Day took a risk to start the first government-sponsored wild horse sanctuary, which was located on 35,000 acres in the Sand Hills of South Dakota. After successfully lobbying Congress to approve the idea, Alan received 1500 wild horses in 1989 from the Bureau of Land Management. His deep connection with the animals in his care is clear from the outset, as is his maverick philosophy of horse-whispering, which he used to train the entire herd. Join Alan Day and me on Tuesday, September 2, 10-11 A.M. CT US, as we discuss his inspirational memoir, The Horse Lover: A Cowboy’s Quest to Save the Wild Mustangs.
The art of emotional congruence is admitting to yourself what you are experiencing emotionally at any given time. When you pretend to be calm when you are nervous, your energy feels weird to the people around you; it feels incongruent. This is especially true with horses, which I learned at a horse whispering coaching event this fall.
