In this episode of the Animal Training Academy podcast, we are thrilled to welcome Peggy Hogan, an esteemed positive reinforcement trainer known for her groundbreaking work with horses. Peggy's journey into animal training began at a young age, fueled by a deep love for horses and a natural curiosity about communication between humans and animals. Over the years, she explored various training methodologies before fully embracing clicker training—an approach that prioritizes choice, consent, and clear communication. Throughout this engaging conversation, Peggy shares her evolution from traditional training techniques to a force-free, consent-based approach that empowers horses to actively participate in their learning. She delves into the importance of shaping, capturing, luring, and targeting—techniques that allow horses to offer behaviors willingly, without pressure. We also explore her work with miniature horses, the development of start buttons and consent signals, and how positive reinforcement is transforming the equestrian world. Chiara Poscente is a Mindful Horsemanship Coach, Horse and Rider Biomechanics Trainer, and BTMM Rider Pillars Apprentice Instructor. Zak Maytum is a Mindful Horsemanship Coach, Equine Behavior Specialist, and Innovative Traditional Western Saddle Maker. Together they have founded Un-Natural Horsemanship. Un-Natural Horsemanship is not a method, doctrine, or school. It is an Idea: Both horse and human can be equally valued and worthy parts of a balanced partnership. The highest goal is to find a good feeling for ourselves and for our horses. Beyond that, it can be fun to see how far we can carry it together. Un-Natural Horsemanship strives to honor the minds, hearts and bodies of both ourselves and our equine companions to the best of our ability and we wish to help ourselves and others find a way of existing with and without horses that negates the need for a set of orchestrated steps to achieve a pre-determined out-come. When the “how” we do everything leads us to a good feeling, the “what” we do just seems to show up. On this episode, we discuss how Un-Natural Horsemanship came to be, as well as biomechanics, behaviour, and mindful horsemanship. The Path to Authenticity [00:26:18] “And then the next eight hours we had to spend on that horse was going through the canyons, so hundreds of feet up. It was terrifying. And that's where I learned I have to trust the horse. I don't know what I'm doing, but the horse does, and I don't want to fall, and neither does this horse.” [00:29:30] “It's changing how we communicate. It's changing how we relate. It's changing everything. From the moments where we think the horse is stubborn or it doesn't like us because it's not working with us. Maybe that's true, maybe it's not. But if that's what we're perceiving…it's changing everything. So, when we start to question those patterns and where we have learned these things, everything seems different. Even though the horse didn't change, nothing really changed externally, everything changed internally.” [00:52:33] “As a kid, all of your growth happens through play. You're on the playground. There's no anxiety to it. There's no agenda. You're just playing for the sake of playing. But at some point, life, obligations kick in, the responsibilities, the expectations, and you leave the playground, and you enter a battleground or proving ground. And that was like, wow, yes. Let's get back to the playground where it doesn't matter whether the hoof comes up or not. I'm having fun with this nonetheless.” Connect with Tyler Thompson Website - https://www.tylerthompsonpsychotherapy.com/horse LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/tyler-thompsonAudio/video editing and show notes by Podcast Abundance. Zweitens: Mache keine Annahmen. Welcome to the Personal Development Trailblazers Podcast! In this episode, we dive into the power of animal communication and horsemanship. Anna Twinney has been sought out by zoos, sanctuaries, rescues, and people from all walks of life, including celebrities and the medical and veterinarian communities alike. Whether it be through private sessions, live and online classes, or her Animal Communication Mentorship program, her message of giving a voice to the voiceless has been heard on almost every continent. Anna's practice and her classes are founded in her ability to and the importance of relating specific, verifiable, and extremely helpful information. She became known for the many hats she would wear and her ability to connect with all species as a trustworthy linguist, behaviorist, medical intuitive, healer, mediator, life and business coach, minister and medium. With more than 10,000 consultations and over 200 hours of educational materials, the Ultimate Animal Communication Mentorship Course was launched. Before she embarked down the path of Animal Communication, Anna was a Police Officer with the British Constabulary. The philosophy within the British justice system is that violence should not be met with violence and as such clear communication is key. Anna trained extensively as an expert in her field holding many positions from the support of victims to the understanding of the criminal mind. The art of reading people's movements, behavior patterns, and understanding their agendas, coupled with listening to their perspectives Anna created a unique, highly compassionate, direct and effective style of conversation and interview that allows her to share the animals' messages with their human companions. An ability to read "in between the lines", gave her a unique understanding and capability that carried over into her Animal Communication. In 1997 Anna followed the call of the horses and was eventually recognized as one of the top 5% in her field as a natural horse woman. She became the first head instructor and board member of the Monty Roberts International Learning Center, opening doors for thousands of national and international students to the world of natural horsemanship. Her love and connection to the animal kingdom inspired Anna to expand her work from Natural Horsemanship to animal communication with all species. Now, along with her work as an Animal Communicator, her company, Reach Out to Horses, leads the horse whispering movement into the next generation incorporating telepathy and energy work as integral parts of her methodology. Anna is a contributing author to two books and a variety of national and international magazines, publications, and websites including Equine Wellness, Holistic Horse and Natural Horse, Horse's Hoof and Horsemanship Journal and Western Horse UK, just to name a few. She has launched over a dozen educational programs including Animal Communication: The Journey Within and the original Reiki: Energy Healing for Horses. Her work can be seen on international TV, video streaming services, and on her own YouTube channel - youtube.com/ReachOutToHorses. Anna has been featured on U.S. and international television, radio and internet programs, including Chinese State TV, FEI TV, Martha Stewart's Living, the BBC fly on the wall documentary Living in the Sun and the French TV Program, Echappées Belles. Most training styles will NEVER completely FIX your horse and here's why. For starters, they focus on controlling the horse instead of teaching the horse self-control. Traditional training teaches you how to control the horse through pain, force, excessive pressure, and mechanics. Don't agree, get rid of all your aids and develop the horse from start to finish with just a rope halter, lead and lunge whip. There's nothing natural about Natural Horsemanship, not when it teaches you how to control the horse through operant conditioning (pressure and release) and repetitive mechanics they call “connection”. Science-based training such as Positive Reinforcement (R+) is just as excessive in its level of control. The only difference is it uses food, a basic need of the horse, to control the horse's behavior. Take the food away and what's motivating the horse to participate?R+/R- Reinforcement is just another name for operant conditioning and uses positive and negative reinforcement. And, finally, we have the gentle horse training methods. These methods emphasize the horse's well-being yet, like the other's fail in teaching people how to interact and work with horses the way the horse needs and respects. After 20+ years of evidence-based research, with thousands of domestic and wild horses, Caroline Beste (founder of Tao of Horsemanship) developed a 100% PROVEN training style that does WORK FOR THE HORSE – all horses, any situation. It's called HOLISTIC HORSEMANSHIP.Join our FREE 7-Day Holistic Horsemanship Mastery Miniseries https://www.taoofhorsemanship.com/mmp-mini-series to learn why people are saying, "Tao is the way to all things possible with horses,” and the most holistic, empathetic, and effective path to training, re-training, and rehabilitating horses. To learn more about me, Caroline Beste, and the Tao of Horsemanship Academy, please visit: -Tao of Horsemanship Academy Website, https://www.taoofhorsemanship.com/ -Tao of Horsemanship Academy Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/TaoofHorsemanshipAcademy -Tao of Horsemanship Academy Instagram, https://www.instagram.com/taoofhorsemanshipacademy/ May you always be one with your horse, Caroline

Welcome to season 7 everyone! I celebrated my 20th anniversary with my mare Diva earlier this month, and it fills me with gratitude to be continuously walking this journey of learning for the betterment of the horse, and to have all of you along for the ride. In this episode, I sat down with Karen Rohlf of Dressage Naturally to hear her perspective on the sport and discipline of dressage, which has attracted much scrutiny in recent times for its harsh and controlling treatment of horses. Karen walked me through some of her guiding principles, such as her Happy Athlete training scale, as well as her philosophy of making training choices based on conversations with the horse versus what she thinks the horse must or should do. This attitude was also reflected in her approach to training for correct biomechanics: good biomechanics feel good for the horse! It was refreshing to imagine what's possible for this discipline if more people learn to value building a foundation of welfare, trust and communication over simply achieving something that makes the horse “look” good. Learning from Karen is like having your own personal cheerleader. Her sense of responsibility to the horse, as well as her open, nonjudgmental, and fair-minded nature allows you to go beyond the rigid rules of specific disciplines and get to the heart of your mental, emotional, and physical partnership with your horse. Through her never-ending quest for personal self-improvement and her practice of authentic communication, she has become a powerful voice that helps guide riders to better partnership and results in harmony. Even after all the decades of being a professional trainer, instructor, and competitor at the Grand Prix level, she still wakes up everyday feeling like a little girl in love with horses… And you can too. Discover more of Karen's work at https://dressagenaturally.net
Lucinda Baker started learning about horses at a very young age. Her father Jack was an avid rider and taught her kindness and a profound empathy with all animals. She learned classical hunter jumper and hunt seat at Flintridge Riding Academy starting at age 5. After raising a family she bought a horse and spent 10 years of "Natural Horsemanship" clinics. This led her to begin studying Neuroscience and Equine Ethology and the development of the Equine Mandala
En pocas palabras, he aprendido mucho gracias a ella. *****Para contactar con Carme, mandále un correo a camacarme@hotmail.com Biblioteca : "Understanding the ancient secret of the horses mind" - Robert.M Miller ***** ¡ Hazte mecenas y accede a ventajas exclusivas ! : https://www.patreon.com/themodernriderSigue a The Modern Rider :https://www.instagram.com/the_modern_rider/https://www.facebook.com/The-Modern-Rider-Podcast-172209469997478 https://www.themodernrider.com/ Recibe la newsletter : https://themodernrider.systeme.io/newsletter
Gubben Med Hatten #14 - Emotionell Fitness i oss & i hästen! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Va?? For our initial offering, we thought that a more personal touch was needed. My wife will be conducting the interview this time and I'll be the subject. We discuss our life. We laugh. We flirt. We talk about some of our personal horses and just our life in general. It is our intention to have interesting discussions with interesting people about horses. It is also our goal, however, that these be easy going, informal, and candid discussions with lots of humor.I know the audio quality is poor for this one and we'll certainly be working on that aspect as we have new episodes.
In this episode Gen and Chloe discuss their views and experiences with NH/Liberty training, how R+ is different and the ethicality of it. NH is a controversial topic, please understand that these are views and opinions, not an attempt to dog on NH trainers and those who practice it.

When we learn to ride as children or as adults, we learn how to do just that: ride. But when do we learn how to understand our horse's behavior? Why he does what he does? How he views the world and what we're asking of him? Host Caroline Culbertson sits down with Tik Maynard, who has made a career out of marrying competitive riding with groundwork as an avenue to gaining a deeper understanding about the inner workings of the horse's mind. It has made him more successful (even with the most complicated horses), more patient, and most of all, more fulfilled in his work. In this episode, we talk about: Why groundwork is the key to gaining a deeper understanding for your horse, which will help greatly in your ridden training. Why this isn't included in the standard curriculum for riders. How you can apply this to your own program without dedicating an overwhelming amount of time to it. Lots more... it's a deep dive episode!
Natural Horsemanship is not a new phenomenon, this style has been a since Xenophon. Lucky for us, Pat Parelli helped to connect the pieces from masterful horseman around the globe. Listen is as he reflects on one of his mentors, Ronnie Willis.
Welcome to Episode 3 of Parables: Life Lessons From A Horse. Today, we are talking with Pat Parelli about love, language and leadership. There is an unspoken language between humans and animals, but to many people, that language is foreign and can be frustrating. When we are present and connected, the language barriers disappear. Kat Chrysostom saw this happen in real-time with Para. After being with multiple trainers that could not solve his puzzle, he became defensive and was acting as any prey animal would. If you haven't listened to Para's story, you can listen to his story here. Through love, language and leadership, Pat Parelli solves this dilemma. Pat is the Ceasar Millan of the horse world and has revolutionized the equine industry with his philosophy of Natural Horsemanship. Using love, language, and leadership, Pat has helped over 700,000 students in 72 countries develop safe, ethical and effective partnerships for life.
In this episode, Pat Parelli discusses the roots of Natural Horsemanship and the trend of becoming a clinician. Not all clinicians are natural, nor are all clinicians horseman. Pat and his wife Linda, have presented to over a million horse lovers through clinics, events, DVDs, and TV shows. A clinician needs to be natural, a people person, and a horseman.
In this episode Pat Parelli shares the origins of Natural Horsemanship, where did it come from, how did it get started? Before Pat and Linda coined the term, Natural Horsemanship, this style of horsemanship was just called "It." Listen as Pat debunks the myths around Natural Horsemanship and how to apply it into your training program. Start your Natural Horsemanship journey today at www.parellisavvyclub.com
In this episode I talk about my goals for 2020 and all about the natural horsemanship clinic.
