When you're scheduling your day, when you're writing your to-do list, when you're crossing stuff off that list, when you running around like a chicken with your head cut off, are you in fact just being busy? Or are you actually being productive. For today's episode of Life Made Simple, we look at the difference between being busy and being productive. I also offer you a new way to view your time and how you spend it. I then offer you some actionable tips on how to make the shift from being inadvertently too busy to being intentionally productive. Just a little warning: I say the word "priorities" A LOT during the episode... because *spoiler* it's definitely a big factor. If a big project is a priority to you, then you have to consistently schedule and plan adequate chunks of time to dive in and tackle it. There's really no way around it. It's a process. Try to trust the process. In our last episode I gave reason as to why you might want to schedule big chunks of time, but if that's not feasible for you, then maybe you need to start small, which is so much better than not starting at all. Have you ever heard that quote "A year from now you will wish you had started today"? Well, in this episode I give you a scenario to think about that might inspire you to start with small chunks of time rather than push the project off for tomorrow. How Do I Make the Most of the Rest of my Life? Romans 12 - Jonnie Wintle - 17.06.18 by St Stephen's Willoughby
Just because I've been a home organizer and time management coach for over 15 years, it doesn't mean I always have it all together. There are still areas of my life that I struggle with. And it's not because I don't have the right strategies or tactics. I definitely have a HUGE arsenal of tried and true tips and techniques... that's not the problem. It's simply because success at almost anything in life is dependent on only 20% strategy and 80% psychology. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true in so many ways! Most personal development coaches agree... success is 20% strategy and 80% psychology. Which means you not only need good strategies to simplify your life, but you need good mindsets and discipline to actually implement those strategies. And I admit it, that's where I struggle the most. For last's week's "3 Minute Thursday" episode I read to you a short story about a professor teaching his class about priorities and time management. Since life can get so busy sometimes - or like I often say "crazy busy" - in order to find the freedom of simplicity, we need to figure out how to simplify our time. We need to figure out how to manage and cope with our inevitably busy lives. On today's "CarlaRae Confesses" episode, the time management strategy that I talk about is actually one that I've known for years and I've taught many of my clients, but I confess it wasn't until recently (like this past year) that I've actually put it to practice in my own life. And let me tell you, now that I've consistently implemented this strategy it has made a HUGE difference! Total game changer! It's called margin. Do you have margin in your life? Margin is the intentionally scheduled empty space in-between tasks, to-dos, appointments and events. In today's episode we look at why we need margin, why we tend to resist margin, and how to include margin in your daily life.
