Jalen shares insightful perspectives on the challenges and rewards of navigating the contemporary landscape of college basketball, particularly in light of the evolving transfer portal and NIL opportunities. Dr. Mark Farnham graduated from Westminster's PhD program in Apologetics. His book, "Every Believer Confident" was recently released by P&R Publishing. He currently teaches at Lancaster Bible College. Nate sits down with Dr. Farnham to discuss apologetics and how every Christian believer is equipped to do the work of apologetics. It's not just a discipline for those who are trained philosophers or expert theologians. The early Christians didn't get sent off to Athens to learn Aristotelian philosophy before they were allowed to engage their friends and neighbors in evangelism. The Scriptures are sufficient for apologetics. If you enjoy this episode, you can access tons of content just like this at wm.wts.edu. Research (Dr. Elliot Stephens) has shown that there are three factors that affect attrition on the mission field: interpersonal skills, ministry competency and spiritual formation. Agencies can train for skills, but it's these softer skills that are often neglected at higher levels of Christian education. Ed Scheuerman built his program at Lancaster Bible College largely in response to this research. Listen in as Ted Esler, Matthew Ellison, and Ed Scheuerman discuss trends in higher Christian education as it relates to missions and mentoring the current generation of students. After getting his BA in Philosophy (with an emphasis in Religious Studies) from West Chester University (PA), Ed completed one year of formal Bible training, taking 42 hours of Bible and Missions classes at Tennessee Temple University in 1985. In 1986, he completed his MA in TESL from WCU. In December 2007, he completed his Doctorate of Missiology degree from Biola University. He was ordained by Calvary Bible Church in Hanover, PA. Ed and his wife Carol served with PIONEERS, International, in Southeast Asia for 23 years. They served in China for nearly seven years (starting in 1987), teaching and ministering at a university. Their work was primarily with their students, discipling those who came to faith. They were then based in Hong Kong for four years (1994-1998) as a support link to the in-China team. In 1997, Ed was asked to assume the role of Area Leader for South Asia / Mainland Southeast Asia (shepherding the teams from Vietnam to India). The family relocated to Chiang Mai, Thailand. The Area Leader role was primarily a pastoral role, shepherding church planting teams. While there, Ed also became involved in various member care ministries. In May 2010, Ed was recruited by Lancaster Bible College to be the Coordinator of the Intercultural Studies major. His book, Knowing God to Make Him Known: Living out the Attributes of God Cross-Culturally” was published in 2021 and is used by churches and missions agencies to help train potential missionaries. His passion is to help students find and follow God's call for their lives in the cause for world missions. The Mission Matters Podcast is a place to talk about the importance of our Mission as Christians. Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This month we are so excited to kick off The Wives Restoration Series, a four-part series giving us a glimpse into the lives of 4 different wives and their side of their husband's restoration story. This week we sit down with Nyasha, as she shares her journey through dating, deaths in the family, and a thriving marriage with her husband Cesar. Nyasha grew up in the church and later attended Lancaster Bible College. Through her best friend, she met Cesar, and their story began. Despite coming from different ends of the country and different upbringings, their faith in God ultimately drew them together.  Their relationship blossomed, with Caesar demonstrating spiritual leadership even while dating. But life wasn't without challenges. Caesar faced deep loss, and together they endured a difficult season in their marriage. Through prayer and encouragement, Nyasha reminded him of his calling and God's faithfulness. Men's of Iron's Anchoredman Bootcamp (menofiron.org/product/anchoredman-leaderpack) became a pivotal experience for Caesar, helping him grow spiritually and connect with other men. Moving from California to Pennsylvania, Caesar found it hard to form close friendships, but this program became a bridge, strengthening him as a husband, father, and leader. Today I had the chance to chat with Kevin Gushiken about his new book out of Kregel Press, “A Theology of Play: Learning to Enjoy Life as God intended.” It is such a unique topic of study and one that hasn't received that much focus. To think that God created play, gives us the freedom and permission to play, and that he actually delights in his people playing. How incredible! In our conversation, I asked Kevin every question about play that came up for me as I read his book. I hope they are questions that you have asked and wondered about too. Enjoy and as always, consider picking up this book. Whether you struggle to make time for play, or you struggle with shame in your play, this one is well worth the read. Kevin M. Gushiken (PhD, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School) serves as the PhD and Leadership Director at Lancaster Bible College, Capital Seminary & Graduate School. Leadership in Ministry - Don Pardum

Leadership in Ministry Don PardumHaving been in leadership positions since the ripe old age of 21 when I was in the military… as an E-4 put in charge of a squad of five men… responsibility, leadership, motivation and accomplishment of the mission has been instilled in me for over 40 years.Having answered the call to ministry in 1995 and working for a major national music ministry, handling everything from scheduling, to travel to stage management and production, I soon learned the leadership training in ministry was not something taught in Bible School. I praise God that I had the background in leadership because it served me well in those first few years I was involved in large scale ministry operations.Because of my leadership background, I was quickly identified as a “leader” while at the police academy – and then rose fairly quickly into leadership positions on the department.Once I retired and entered full time ministry on my own – those skills help to keep me focused, on target, and managing my “team” under me. Although not a church – I still have four others that help me do what we do in ministry. Even though we are not in the same building, but connected all around the country via the internet, it is still up to one person to make sure the job is accomplished… on time, every time and all the time. Me.Having said all of that, what does things look like when leaders do not know how to lead?I can sum it all up in two words, “confusion” and “failure.”In ministry, that can be fatal… not just for the church or ministry, but think about the end product… the accomplishment of the mission (if you want to call it that)… What is that? People are not hearing the Gospel. People are not being ministered to. People are not being saved. Why? Lack of leadership…Having said all of that as introduction, our guest today specializes in helping pastors and ministry leaders to excel in something not usually covered in Bible Schools or Seminaries. I bet you can figure out what it is… LEADERSHIP in Ministry! Amen! The “Faith and Trust Leadership Academy” seeks to fill this gap. Many Pastors today have been thrust into management roles instead of taking on the responsibility for leadership. What has the result been? Over 40 million people have left the evangelical churches. Over 15 million just in the last four years. Our guest today is Don Pardum is a graduate of the Lancaster Bible College, has attended the Westminster Theological Seminary and the Dallas Theological Seminary. He has been trained under some pretty big names in ministry, Professor Howard Hicks; Chuck Swindoll and others..To share all about the importance of leadership training in today's ministries, help me welcome to the program, Don Pardum!Don, thank you for taking the time to join us today!I apologize for that long introduction… I guess you can see how passionate I am about leadership, leadership training and all of that…First question I always ask is this… other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Don Pardum?”Why did you decide to form “Faith and Trust Leadership Academy?”As far as ministry goes, what is the difference between “leadership” and “management?”You share information on the max exodus from churches. What does the data say about the reasons WHY people are leaving the traditional church? Why do you believe pastors are avoiding or ignoring their own leadership development? It seems like it would be something they would want to pursue…How does the “Faith and Trust Leadership Academy” fill this void?Leadership training is not a “check the box” – “I did that already” – type of training. It is a continual process. In the military, it starts in your unit… proceeds to the “Primary Leaders Develop Course” then the NCO Academy, etc. Not to mention the four...

On Growing Up Fundie, Ep. 114: Tim Mills of  @HarmonicAtheist doesn't skirt around my tougher questions, and delivers his thoughts in his signature, straightforward manner. Father of four, Tim Mills, placed his faith in Jesus, and church ministry from a young age. As a child, he took pride in memorizing thousands of Bible verses, and listening to the sermons of famous Evangelical pastors on the radio with his parents. After being homeschooled throughout his youth, Tim attended the now-infamous Bob Jones University (in SC) and Lancaster Bible College (in PA) for his undergrad. He also attended New Tribes Mission Institute (currently Ethnos 360), for one year, to prepare for a career in tribal evangelism and church planting. After getting sidelined by severe insomnia, Tim shifted to "secular" work, including being a customer cabinetmaker, a stock broker, a fraud analyst, and a social media manager, before transitioning this year to being a full-time YouTuber. He began his deconstruction journey in 2016, and had fully deconverted by the Fall of 2019. Through his YouTube channel,"Harmonic Atheist," Tim posts content in an effort to help his audience remove themselves from mythology-based worldviews, heal from religious trauma, and empower themselves to share their own personal stories.Checkout his episode of “Growing Up Fundie,” then find more of his content via the links below:Tim on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@HarmonicAtheist/videosTim'd Linktree: https://linktr.ee/harmonicatheist______________________________________Find this episode, and others here:Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/2EHJGf8kGbSV9SRbqsfYKSApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/growing-up-fundie/id1602008078Amazon Music:https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/ad6ac91e-c2fb-47d6-8658-df8aed941eac/growing-up-fundieSupport us on Buzzsprout Subscriptions:https://www.buzzsprout.com/1908164/supporters/newSupport us on Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/sydneydavisjrjrYoutube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5QuI5etVfbJoTVAhbRGMkADiscord:https://discord.gg/XQNG4nD5Join us on Reddit on r/GrowingUpFundie: https://www.reddit.com/r/GrowingUpFundie/More about the host, Sydney Davis Jr. Jr.sydneydavisjrjr.comThink you might make a great guest, or know someone who would be?Apply for yourself, or nominate someone here:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeHiy8KYW38tyKUD6MbFmOwCKdeWVHAbIA9qst1RBQf4rRPXg/viewform?usp=share_linkSupport the show

However, I spent the early years of my life bouncing between halfhearted commitments and living in pure rebellion. I am grateful for God's grace, mercy, love and forgiveness. Tony Galati is back on the pod for EP. 178 as we continue talking about marriage and relationships. What prevents us from having a healthy marriage? It's pretty simple – selfishness and sin. We are constantly battling our natural desire to be selfish and our natural desire to sin. Ultimately it comes down to our relationship with God, if you are not right with God how can you be right with your wife? Men, make God a priority over your marriage, be dependent on Him. When you are dependent on God, your selfishness goes out the window. “My marriage is NOT more important than my relationship with God, but a healthy marriage is only possible because of my relationship with God." - Tony Galati If you are interested in learning more about mentorship and how you can take your next step, visit menofiron.org Tony joined the Men of Iron team in August of 2022 as our Iron Rep in Lancaster, PA and the surrounding region. Tony Galati joins the podcast for EP. 177 as we start the month of July talking about marriage and relationships. What does a healthy marriage look like? The foundation of a healthy marriage is two healthy people who love God. In Ephesians 5:25 we read, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her.” Men, we are called to love our wives as Christ loved the church, that is a sacrificial love. If we are unable to imitate Christ daily, how can we love our wives well? Everything points back to loving others and being imitators of God. If we live our lives this way, our marriages will be amazing. Tony joined the Men of Iron team in August of 2022 as our Iron Rep in Lancaster, PA and the surrounding region. Everyone desires to be healthy and fit, but only few give the time, attention, and energy to doing so. And we aren't just talking physical fitness. We are talking about holistic fitness which involves the body, mind, and spirit. We want to help individuals pursue and reach their goals physically, mentally/emotionally, relationally, and most important spiritually. Thankfully, our Built Different Guest today, Shane Manney, has a significant amount of experience in all aspects of life. Physically speaking, Shane has accumulated over 20 years of coaching experience that includes wrestling, boxing, submission grappling, and strength training along with serving 6 years as an infantry machine gunner in the United States MARINE Corps, 2 years as a police officer in Richmond, Virginia, and 8 years as a private security contractor and security lead supervisor for Exelon Nuclear Security. On the mental, emotional, and relational level, Shane worked in the field of drug and alcohol rehabilitation at Pennsylvania Counseling Services for years helping individuals find freedom and recovery from strongholds within their lives. And spiritually speaking, Shane earned a bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies from Lancaster Bible College in 2016, and now leads a ministry called 5 Stones Fight Club that exists to engage individuals in mixed martial arts and fitness so that they can become both physically fit and spiritually sound. His mission is to help individuals relate their struggles on the wrestling mats and in the cage to their daily battles in life, and to provide the necessary support to become moral representatives of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. My favorite quote from the episode is, “Come as you are, but don't stay as you are.” Don't miss this powerful episode that will help you push past your comfort zones!
