My heart is stirring, my soul is yearning to go deeper and deeper. And today's podcast is as IMPACTFUL as they come. It's with a police officer who has one heckuva story and he talks open & candidly about his battle with his mental health, brushes with suicidal thoughts, and how he has overcome his demons that sometimes pop-up. He literally has turned his pain into his purpose. This is as REAL a conversation as you will ever hear on this topic. Suicide is running rampant in our culture and I will no longer avoid the topic. As a matter of fact, I will be discussing, sharing, and going on a mission to “Do Something” about it. And it starts TODAY!!   I first met Tyler Anstey via email back in 2016 when he shared his story and struggles with mental health and how my first book “The IMPACT Body Plan” helped him through some very dark and tough times. Fast forward to 2018, Tyler shared an update finally being diagnosed with PTSD and getting medical attention. He dusted off the old IMPACT Body Plan and began his 10 week program to help get his mind, body and soul right.   Fast forward to today and I am happy to share that Tyler is thriving and able to share his story with us as a struggling police officer, who almost took his own life in his darkest hours. This is a deep and personal one my friends but a real life story of an everyday hero serving his community and helping others deal with the tough times as well.    On today's IMPACT SHOW podcast, here is what Tyler and I discuss: - The letter Tyler wrote me in 2016 during some of his darkest days and why he did NOT commit suicide. - How Tyler went from 18 pills a day to one and his top hacks to combat mental health that are not pharmaceutical. - What Tyler does on his most challenging days to “Get his mind right.” - Life today and back at work as a patrol officer…Tyler is happiest serving the community and helping those who struggle with their own mental health. - Family life now, why his life revolves around his son Cooper, and how happy he is that he's newly engaged. - Lessons learned, perspective, self care is a full-time job, and on a mission to be the best father & human he can be. - Advice to anyone suffering from mental health issues today, and his “never give up!” mentality.   This is an IMPACT SHOW episode if there ever was one as it helps address and tackle a real-world challenge we all face today. I am committed to doing something about it and I hope you are willing to join the crusade for us to combat Mental Health and prevent suicide. It's amazing the cues that you can pick up on. And as you said, our brain is finely tuned to it. You know when somebody is smiling on the phone, you know when they're having a bad day. And it goes the other way, too. I've talked to people about this with energy work. We know when there's been a fight in a room, even if we've never witnessed the fight, you've walked into that room and people were like and then you get that link. You're like, oh, what is with that? And you're like and you become hyper sensitive and aware of you're walking on eggshells a little bit, because what did I just walk into? You didn't witness a fight. There was nothing you didn't see. You don't know. But you know that something went on. And we as human beings have a far better connection with each other than I think we give ourselves credit for." When COVID hit, many businesses realized that they had to change their strategy, and we were definitely one of them. So, we decided to shift our focus to concentrate on the Cleveland area, where we could control construction, property management, and much more from our own backyard. With our key players located in the Cleveland area, it just made sense. Throughout this transition, one of our key players was Tyler Brummett. Tyler is our Chief Operating Officer at Freeland Ventures and head of our acquisitions and asset management team. We've been business partners for about two years, during which time we've acquired over 2,000 new units.  So today, I figured I'd bring Tyler on the show to walk us through how we procured our latest acquisition called Stewart House. We'll break down how we were able to take a property from 80% vacant to 99% occupied and the difference between a vanilla apartment complex and one that attracts great tenants willing to pay a premium. We'll also discuss the unique benefits of doing this in a market just minutes away from your doorstep. Key Takeaways with Tyler Brummett How Tyler and I got access to the Stewart House deal, what we did to close over a company that manages over 20,000 units, and how we plan to create a phenomenal community and better housing for its residents. How to budget both time and money for improvements, ensure you're making the right renovations, and find great tenants who will occupy your units for years to come. What Tyler's day-to-day as our asset manager looks like. The difference between “kicking out” a tenant and simply not renewing their lease. Want the Full Show Notes? Tyler is a wedding planner, designer and florist in Santa Barbara, California. He's also a dad, husband, foster parent, and loves cooking. It's so important to not only focus on what you do for work, but also what you do in life. Long after your business is gone, you'll still be You. You have the power over your brand to stand firm on your pricing, tell people what they need to do in order to work with you, and in making decisions in your business. Connecting with people will propel your business. 3 Areas of Connection: 1- Connection with Clients 2- Connection with fellow Vendors 3- Connection with your Team It doesn't matter how sought-after you are, or how long you've been in the industry, treat people with kindness. Be intentional with the vendors you work with, with your clients, and with your team. Take your clients out for drinks after their engagement session, or bring a coffee to the planner the morning of the wedding, or take your second shooter out for lunch someday. He relates his current work in residential to his previous time doing commercial. The residential world, particularly custom residential construction, has been a significantly more fulfilling experience for Tyler because of its personal, family-centered process.Speaking on his staff, Tyler becomes emotional talking about those team members that have caught the vision of the company, which goes way beyond working for a paycheck. He also encourages employees to make their voices heard and to challenge the leadership if they feel compelled to, so as to do their part in setting Killowen apart from the rest. Finally, Tyler describes the cornerstone of his company—and of running a construction business in general—which is communication. With so many parties to keep up-to-speed throughout a long and complicated process, Tyler stresses openness and brutal honesty, but also empathy and care.Topics Discussed: [02:35] Challenges that Tyler is dealing with right now[07:41] How Tyler keeps his pipeline full[12:48] Competing with other cabinetry subcontractors[15:12] How Tyler conducts his exit interviews[20:51] How often Tyler checks in with clients after the home is built[30:13] Creating a good company culture[36:28] Working with Syd and Shea McGee[43:56] How Netflix came into the picture[50:55] Working when cameras are always trained on you[55:17] Lessons learned from the Netflix experience about running Killowen[57:45] The best career advice Tyler has ever been given[1:03:11] What Tyler is most excited aboutConnect with Guest:Website Instagram Facebook Connect with Brad Leavitt:Website Instagram Facebook Houzz Pinterest YouTubeKey Quotes by Tyler:With these homes, it gets super personal because it's the most expensive thing they'll ever buy. It's where they'll raise their family, their kids, their grandkids. It gets pretty personal and that's why I like it better than commercial. I was in commercial for a while; but, homes—there's something about it.I want my people to challenge our system. I might disagree and I might push back; but, I do want our team to think of ways we can do better. I'm not averse to change. There are people in our company that are here for the paycheck, and that is fine. We're not doing it for practice. We're doing it to make a living. It's all good. There are other people that I see who have caught the vision of where we can be and they want to be a part of it.Where construction really goes sideways—the relationships at least—is communication. If someone feels heard, even if there's a problem, if you acknowledge that it's there and you keep giving them constant updates—communication is huge.Every hire I've made has taught me how to run my company better

What matters more–providing for our families, or being there for our spouses and our kids while we make incredible memories? When I learned that entrepreneur Tyler Gunter decided to make big changes in his life and retired at the age of 30 to show up for his family first and his business second, I knew I needed to talk to him.  Tyler is the founder of Adventure Dads, a group of about a dozen dads that take trips with their children of all ages. They've gone spelunking, rode go-karts, and explored artificial biospheres, to name just a few of their activities. More importantly, they've also helped kids foster incredible friendships and forge connections within their community. In our conversation today, Tyler and I talk about the power of influence and mentorship when it comes to our kids–and how we can be a positive presence in our kids' lives, even when they stop wanting to listen to us. We also talk about what it means to live a balanced and intentional life, and the beauty of learning to let go. Nate Klemp's Podcast Highlights What is Adventure Dads and why did Tyler create it? Who are the people we want to be actively involved in our kids' lives? How can we have serious conversations about real issues with our kids? How do our kids' friends influence them–and how can we have an influence on our kids' friends? What makes going on adventures with our kids so valuable? The moment that taught Tyler and his wife that nothing could make up for lost time together. How do you know who will show up for your family if something happens to you? How can tragedy bring out the best in a family or a community? How can you reverse engineer a life of intention? What Tyler does when he screws up or knows he lost his cool. Today's episode of the Building Bridges podcast is my conversation with Tyler Cowen, an economist, director of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, blogger at Marginal Revolution, and host of the podcast Conversations with Tyler.I first met Tyler back in 2019 when my colleague Zineb Mekouar and I spent a few days in Washington, DC to promote my book Hedge and to connect with John Dearie's Center for American Entrepreneurship. We had lunch with Tyler and his colleague and co-author Alex Tabarrok in a Chinese restaurant near George Mason University. Most of our conversation that day was about exchanging ideas and impressions about the relative situation of America, Europe, and the rest of the world.Since then I've kept reading everything I could find about the political situation in the US, the state of the transatlantic relationship, and recently how COVID-19 was impacting the distribution of power and wealth across the world. Then last year, I realized something: Americans are, by far, the most inspiring contributors to this conversation—yet alas they're mostly speaking about America, leaving the rest of the world untouched, uncommented on, almost undocumented! In this context, how about launching a podcast series in which I'd interview American thinkers, but having them focus the conversation on Europe?Fast forward to today: my 2020 idea has morphed into the Building Bridges podcast which I'm co-hosting with my wife Laetitia Vitaud. The value proposition of our podcast is to provide a platform for anyone who has interesting ideas to share with our vast community of “unapologetic globalists” (to quote my recent guest Chris Schroeder). Not everyone that's part of this roster has much to say about Europe. But whenever I catch one who does, I make sure to focus our conversation on that very subject—and I must say Tyler is one of our recent guests who has the most to say and to share about the Old Continent! And so if you're interested in Europe, economics, libertarianism, or the prospects of various other regions in the world, I urge you to give my conversation with Tyler a listen. Here's what you'll hear:What Tyler likes and dislikes about Europe, and the various countries he's lived in or traveled to here (which is most of them!).Why he thinks Europe is one of the least fragmented regions in the world—which is the exact opposite of how I view Europe! Why Americans should be present and invest in India if they want to retain some influence in the future. What advice he would give to young Europeans and young Americans who want to prepare themselves for our coming world. Why he expects Europe to remain a wealthy and prosperous region, despite, well, everything. And many, many more interesting topics and ideas. This podcast and the related article were originally published at Around Europe w/ Tyler Cowen. Lobbying. Startups Across Borders. Biden's Global Tax Reform. as part of my newsletter European Straits (which is about the Entrepreneurial Age, viewed from Europe).Follow Building Bridges on Twitter! You can listen to all our podcasts on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Also Building Bridges is part of a network of Substack newsletters, which you may want to discover: there's Laetitia Vitaud's Laetitia@Work (about the future of work, with a feminist perspective), and my own European Straits (about the Entrepreneurial Age, viewed from Europe).(Credit: Franz Liszt, Angelus ! Standing apart from your competition is something we hear a lot about as entrepreneurs, but it can be easier said than done. This is especially true when you’re in a market with heaps of competition from industry giants.   Even so, there are people making it happen, including this week’s guest, Tyler Ornstein, founder of Tylers Coffees®. Coffee is the second largest industry in the world, second only to petroleum, so there’s no shortage of “giants” to compete against. Yet Tylers Coffees® has been around for sixteen years, is available in 500 retail locations as well as online, and now ships 40,000 units of coffee a month. Clearly, being the David in an industry packed with Goliaths didn’t prevent Tylers Coffees® from becoming a mass success.   Tune into this episode to hear Tyler’s tips, lessons, and strategies that any entrepreneur in any industry can use to successfully wage war on a business battlefield full of “giants.” It’s Not The Coffee, It’s The Acid Tylers Coffees® were conceived when Tyler was just 14 years old. He and his father often bonded over coffee, until his dad was told, by his doctors, that he couldn’t drink coffee anymore. It was due to his stomach issues. The acid in the coffee was  exacerbating those issues. Instead of simply rolling over, however, Tyler’s dad, a chemist, figured out a way to brew organic, acid-free coffee that he could drink. Validate Your Idea First Even at age 14, Tyler recognized that other people with stomach and digestive issues who had to avoid acidic foods might be interested in his dad’s acid-free coffee. So, he rode around the neighborhood on his bike, knocking on doors and offering free samples to neighbors. Tyler remembers following up with a particular little old lady, who told Tyler the coffee did not hurt her stomach. She asked how she could obtain more, and what it cost. Tyler continued to hear from people with similar experiences, which gave him proof of concept and inspired him to start selling Tylers Coffees®. What Tyler did--testing his offer’s viability--is a step new entrepreneurs often skip, to their detriment. In this episode, Tyler describes a simple, affordable way to test your product’s viability. How Do You Compete With Starbucks And Folgers? You Don’t! Attempting to directly compete with the “giants” usually leads to price wars, since there’s really nothing differentiating you from the competition. Instead of competing directly with the major coffee brands, Tylers Coffees® caters to health conscientious coffee drinkers--specifically, people with digestive issues who can’t tolerate the acid in normal coffee. As a result, Tyler can charge more for Tylers Coffees®, help people enjoy a beverage they may not otherwise be able to, and provide a superior product. You Don’t Need Money, You Need Customers When an aspiring entrepreneur tells Tyler they “need money,: his next question is usually, “Do you have customers?” These days there are lots of ways to acquire money for product creation, but what good is any product if there aren’t people willing to buy it? It may sound counterintuitive, but the more you focus on a market you can serve, the better your odds of creating a product people want to buy. Retail Is Dead...Or Is It? Because lockdowns and COVID restrictions make shopping at a retail location challenging, many retail sectors are suffering. Online shopping as a whole contributes to this dynamic as well. But that still doesn’t mean retail, as a whole, is dead. In this episode Tyler offers tips on getting your products into retail stores, including whether it’s currently worth the effort to do so with your particular product. He also shares what it took to get Tylers Coffees® into Natural Grocers. Outline of This Episode How to tell whether you’re “entrepreneuring” correctly [4:01] Why growing a business is like raising a child [7:24] Shipping coffee from a bedroom [14:21] The one question Tyler asks aspiring entrepreneurs [19:05] An easy way to test your product’s viability [27:17] The retail side of selling [37:17] From sixty employees to two [49:18] Resources & People Mentioned https://tylerscoffees.com/ Tylers Coffees on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tylersacidfreecoffee/ Tylers Coffees on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TylersCoffee/ Tylers Coffees on Twitter: https://twitter.com/tylerscoffees Email Tylers Coffees at contact@tylerscoffees.com Music for “Just The Tips” is titled, “Happy Happy Game Show” by Kevin MacLeod (http://incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License Connect With James and Dean James P. He’s published a new post every day for the past 17 years on his blog called Marginal Revolution, where he writes about economics, arts, culture, food, and globalization. Beyond that, he also writes for Bloomberg and hosts his own podcast called Conversations with Tyler. Tyler ends every episode of his podcast asking about other people’s production function. How do you get so much done? What’s the secret sauce of all that you’ve accomplished? This episode is entirely devoted to that question. But this time, I’m asking Tyler. We started by talking about why there aren’t more Tyler Cowens in the world. Then, we moved to Tyler’s process for writing, such as choosing article topics and editing his work. In this episode, Tyler talks about the pattern of witness and testimony in John's Gospel. Like many patterns in John, the author has built this idea around the number 7, citing 7 witnesses that testified to the nature and person of Jesus Christ. But that's not all to be found when it comes to witness.-What Tyler didn’t mention about the Beloved Disciple’s witness was his intimacy with Jesus. Take a look at how the beloved is intimate with the Jesus at the last supper: he’s given the primary seat of being on Jesus’ lap. Also notice that, if Baukham is right and the anonymous disciple in chapter 1 is indeed the beloved, then the beloved is one of the first if not THE FIRST to go to wherever it is that Jesus was living. The focus of that passage obviously isn’t whatever Jesus’ living conditions are, it’s that the disciples, Andrew and the Beloved, got to share a special novel connection with Jesus.-Richard Bauckham’s Book, “Testimony of the Beloved Disciple: Narrative, History, and Theology in the Gospel of John” https://smile.amazon.com/Testimony-Beloved-Disciple-Narrative-Theology/dp/080103485X/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=the+testimony+of+the+beloved+disciple&qid=1574365563&s=books&sr=1-1Follow Redeeming the Time on Twitter @TimeRedeeming or https://twitter.com/TimeRedeemingYou can email us for anything at redeemthetimeministries@gmail.com Our Website: https://redeemingthetime.onlineKreedo's latest: https://redeemingthetime.online/articles/peacewithgodOur music is from https://audionautix.com

That’s why today’s episode will surely be interesting and informative for everyone who is using Facebook ads at the moment, or those who have eCommerce sites. Today I’ll be speaking to Tyler Garner, founder of Standout Social, about what’s working with Facebook ads at present. We’ll also discuss marketing as we see it in the future, as well as what Tyler does in social media for himself and his clients. If you’re keen on knowing about these topics, check out the show notes and stay tuned until the end for a ton of valuable insights.   Tyler’s Story (3:35) Being in sales How Tyler started his journey into Facebook Building Tyler’s first digital agency How Tyler’s first experience made him more eager to venture into digital marketing What Does Tyler Offer (7:35) Online businesses of all kinds eCommerce stores Digital Info Products Direct Response Advertising Facebook Sales Funnels: What works nowadays? (9:34) Top Funnels – For those who have never engaged with the seller’s products in any way.      – Content needs to be as native as possible.      – Use user-generated content (videos, images). Middle Funnels – For those who have visited a seller’s site.   – For those who engage on Facebook and Instagram. Bottom Funnels – For regular site visitors.    – For those who took actions from purchase up to post-purchase. Coming back to solid foundations and fundamentals is the way to grow steadily. It doesn’t need to be over-complicated. It’s essential to test the marketing tools to figure out the best way to go. How Tyler keeps up with the trends despite not buying any courses (15:21) The funny truth behind Tyler’s success story. Two critical areas you need to be good at on Facebook to make marketing work. Tyler’s additional tips on how you could make marketing work on Facebook. Observe successful competitors and take a look at how they got to where they are. Success is a collaborative approach—build connections and learn from each other. Future Trends in Technical Marketing (19:40) Videos are going to be big, but the platforms are ever-changing. Be ready to pivot and change. What Tyler thinks about TikTok. The most important thing is going to be how you position an offer. It’s not going to be an ongoing perfect picture.  Be recession-proof through digital marketing. Don’t rely on one platform alone. Do we still see Webinars as a trend in the future? One of the struggles marketers usually face. The right people will buy, the wrong people won’t. More marketing tips from Tyler and Will (24:44) Don’t overcomplicate your marketing. Respect the marketplace. Show the people why they need you—tell them how you can help them solve their problems. Be light years ahead of everyone by going specific on how you can help people. Keep pushing the solutions. Tyler’s take on Courses and Course Pricing (30:40) Courses will always be needed. If you know you can GENUINELY help people, you’d be foolish not to sell it. Buying courses is a practical thing to do right now. Beyond The Broadcast- Doing more with email marketing Today we are tackling the 4th episode of our 6 part series. We are talking with Tyler Sutton with the email marketing company Emma. Emma creates beautiful emails. Emma registered on my radar about 10 years ago, which in internet years is a long time! There is so much that Emma is doing that is effective, compelling, and pushing the needle forward. The experience that Tyler brings with him to this conversation is all about what you can do with email marketing regardless of the platform. All About Emma Since about 2003, Emma has evolved with online marketing just as everything online evolves. The initiative behind the platform itself was to create a really user friendly tool to conduct email marketing to help you reach your audience. One thing stressed from the beginning was the user friendliness of it. They wanted to make it easy to get your content into email. They created emails that are appealing and professional which makes them feel like they come with some authority. Type of Clients That Work with Emma Emma works with users across all industry from sports teams to restaurants to small businesses and even retail. With their most recent release of the Emma HQ platform they have seen a lot of great use out of restaurants or more franchise based businesses. They can break down all the franchises into sub accounts and have them still under one umbrella. Emma really welcomes every industry. Let's Talk Sub Accounts A key concept in email marketing is being able to personalize it and create a relationship. From a sub account/franchise model you would want to do that with each location. With this functionality there are separate sub accounts. Each sub account may present itself as a different location, franchise locations or separate but connected entities. Inside the EmmaHQ sub accounts can create their own mailings, manage their lists, look at their response data, and even set up automation. This allows them to have accounts for each location without data crossing over into another. You can keep everything separate so subscribers who signed up to receive information from that location are getting emails only concerning things at the location they signed up for. It allows you to keep better organized and stay in compliance. Each sub account requires an opt in to help you stay in compliance. Each sub account is counted separately; all campaigns and audiences are linked only to that sub account. It kinda doesn't matter who pays the bill, there is no sharing across accounts. On the HQ level you there is access to sub account analytics, and the ability to create account wide templates can then be shared down to the sub accounts. Even if you might have 2 people under the same brand, they are going to want to communicate with their subscribers differently. But when there is something going on like maybe an Open House HQ can send that template to both people and it creates uniformity of the brand even though the accounts are separate. The HQ platform helps for any business that is expanding in from a location to a franchise level. Emma's Take on Automation People love automation because it takes some work off their plate on an ongoing basis. "In terms of automation, it really is a cornerstone in email marketing. I feel like people are catching onto that a little bit more."- Tyler Sutton Tyler comes across people every now and then who aren't using automation and they do have a big gap in their email marketing. The philosophy Emma has regarding automation is, “How do you leverage that tool in whatever way you are using it?” How do you leverage that tool to create a more personalized experience for your subscriber? Is it a welcome email or birthday email? Is it setting up a mailing that sends off if a subscriber clicks on a specific link? How are you going to set up automation to further that personalized experience for your subscriber? I think that click automations are crucial and I love doing things date specific. What kind of automations are Emma users creating? They are using Click automation in really creative ways. Tyler goes into discussing something a coffee shop brand he worked with did. They were releasing a new holiday drink in the first part of December. So in September they sent a mailing out announcing that in December they would be releasing this new drink. Further, they had a CTA at the bottom that said “remind me closer to December. “ When people clicked the link it set up the mailing already to send out to them closer to the launch of the drink. Tyler thinks that people are getting more creative with their content even in some of the more common workflows. "EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE A WELCOME EMAIL REGARDLESS OF YOUR BRAND."- Tyler Sutton. He was working with an NFL team and they were trying think about how they could make this an experience a subscriber would appreciate. Their experience was labeled “Welcome to the Team.” So right when they signed up, their subscriber got their first email with a coupon code for their team store with a graphic that said “welcome to the team.” As the series went on over the next couple of weeks, it was about finding ways to connect with the team and the final step of that was season tickets. They went from welcome to the team to let's gear up to let's connect and then finally be a part of action with season tickets. They got really creative with how they told a story through that welcome series. What's the Right Number? Tyler says the number of emails you need to create in a series depends on what you are trying to accomplish in a welcome email/series. The question you have to ask is “What's the content that you have? And what content is going to be the most valuable to present?” If you can deliver that content in one email then do it in one email. With the NFL team they had so much different content that they had that they were using to tell their story across a longer time. If you combined all that they had into one email it would have been a lot of noise going on. The amount of content you have and the goal that you have regarding the nurture series determines how many emails that you need to send out. Branish Logic There are two things Tyler encourages you to think about. Email marketing is all about delivering relevant content so think about these things: Consider your audience- In Emma we have segments that are dynamic. This means as customers data changes people may move in or out of certain workflows. Branish logic- As you send out mailings you can insert "choose your own adventure" types of links. In Emma, you can set up automations that allows people to choose their own way through your content with links to click. So you can choose to send someone through the rest of the automation if they click yes and if they click no you can maybe send them another type of content. Being able to understand who your audience is and what makes sense for them is so important. Being able to give them the opportunity to choose their path through your content may give you greater interaction with said subscriber. The welcome series is a great opportunity to collect more information from your subscriber so that you can customize their experience. It really goes a long way to help you build a long term relationship with subscribers. Inside the Emma Platform Emma has every tool imaginable that you can think of to get started. The whole app is broken down into 5 tabs. You have the homepage that provides some overall analytics for your overall account and on the last few emails you've sent. You have the audience tab where you can manage lists and segments. They have forms platform as well. They have an area for creating content like the drag and drop editor. And they even have an area for testing. They have an analytics platform. They also have the automation platform. Let's Talk Split Testing… Tyler says you should always be A/B testing whether is subject line or content because it's going to help you understand your subscribers better. You can ask them in the welcome series, but what do their actions tell you as well? In terms of open rates, test the subject line. In terms of content, there is a slew of items you can be testing that will help you drive your clicks with different layout options. It helps you optimize and make educated decisions based on what your tests tell you. Thresholds for Tests… If you have a list of 5000 contacts, then you can take around 20% of your list and still have a good test group. If you have less than 5000 contacts then Tyler recommends just splitting your audience in half. You would send version A to half and version B to the other half. That's going to give you a good opportunity to have a more increased sample size. Your list size isn't an excuse to do or not do A/B testing. Split test every email so that you can see what is going on with your subscribers. You should be doing testing to find trends that will help you increase your engagements. What Tyler is saying we want to hit our audience so that they feel appreciated and they WANT to receive your email. Even if you aren't using the A/B testing tools, you can still test things from a manual perspective by looking at your analytics and identifying what's working and what's not working. There are only a handful of websites that I read religiously. One of those is MarginalRevolution.com, started by my next guest, Tyler Cowen. Other than hosting one of the most popular economic blogs in the world, Tyler is also an economics professor at George Mason University, a regular New York Times columnist, and the author of over a dozen books, including Average is Over, and The Complacent Class. With such a prolific guest, it’s no wonder that we cover a lot of ground. In this episode, we discuss: How the future of labor will look drastically different than it does today, and what we can do to future-proof our livelihood The pros and cons of virtual reality and the impact it could have on society The fate of newspapers and how information will be more and more “bundled” according to our tastes and preferences Race relations in the world, and how in many ways we’ve taken discouraging steps backwards How we’re losing touch with the physical world, and some of the symptoms that indicate that we could be in for a rough ride What Tyler suggests doing to improve decision making and how important (and rare) that skill will be in the coming years Tyler’s advice to parents about how to foster resilience, tenacity and internal drive in their children Tyler’s “quake books” and the reading process he’s developed over the years that keeps him sharp Why giving books as gifts can be dangerous The one skill every person should possess before Googling anything What playing competitive chess as a child taught Tyler about how he thinks and views the world today And much more, including Tyler’s thoughts on minimum wage, bitcoin, and his favorite television programs. In episode 119 we hear from my former high school teammate, Tyler Bernsten.  Outside of football Tyler and I also worked the same landscaping job in the summer at Barnes III & Sons.  Tyler and I had a blast reminiscing about games we played in, trips to Applebees for half-price appetizers and appreciating the opportunity and the lessons learned from playing football for the West Morris Central Wolfpack.  Tyler takes us through his journey of bouncing back after throwing 5 interceptions in his first Varsity game to going pick-less in his senior year and ultimately becoming a division-1 college football player. This is my first attempt at a video podcast so please watch and share the YouTube video below.  Let me know if this is something you want more of in the future.   More talking points discussed in our conversation will be scattered throughout the rest of this post.    "YOU INVEST SO MUCH TIME INTO ONE THING, AND IT IS SO HARD WHEN THAT IS TAKEN AWAY IN A SECOND." What went into Tyler's decision to play football at Monmouth University. The difficult conversation Tyler had with his tight end coach at Monmouth when he decided to transfer to Wilkes to pursue his dream of playing quarterback. What Tyler's Mom told him as a kid that sticks with him to this day  How Tyler won the starting job at Wilkes without a red jersey. Tyler's thoughts on youth tackle and flag football. The role Tyler's Mom played in his love for football and his determination in playing quarteback.

My guest on today's podcast is an absolute phenom and was first introduced to me by Dr. Joseph Mercola, one of the most popular guys I've ever had on my podcast He's just 30 years old. He has run a 2:30 marathon and can deadlift 450 pounds. And he's one smart cookie. His name is Tyler LeBaron, and he is the Founder and Executive Director of the science-based nonprofit . His background is in biochemistry, he interned at Nagoya University in the department of Neurogenetics to research the molecular mechanisms of hydrogen gas on cell signaling pathways, he is a director of the International Hydrogen Standards Association (IHSA) and the International Molecular Hydrogen Association (IMHA), he speaks at Medical conferences across the USA for physicians, and at academic biomedical hydrogen symposia and conferences around the world. He is also a member of the Academic Committee of Taishan Institute for Hydrogen Biomedical Research. He collaborates with researchers at home and abroad, and helps advance the education, research, and awareness of hydrogen as a therapeutic medical gas. He has a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, and has studied Physiology, Advanced Exercise Physiology, Nutritional Biochemistry, Molecular Cell Biology, Quantitative Chemical Analysis, Biology Analysis Techniques. His research spans the gamut and includes: -Therapeutic effects of hydrogen gas -Free Radical Biology and Medicine -Therapeutic effects of electrolyzed reduced water -Therapeutic effects of exercise for disease prevention and treatment -Biological effects of inorganic nitrates -Biological and chemical properties of creatine -Vitamins, minerals and nutraceuticals -Supplements and ergogenic aids -Health, longevity and wellness -Physiology, biochemistry and organic chemistry During our discussion, you'll discover: -What Tyler's training looks like to be able to lift heavy and also run as fast as you run in an endurance sport... -Whether Tyler follows any special diet or takes any special supplements... -How hydrogenated water is far different than regular water... -The way that hydrogen gas dissolved in water actually affects your cells... -Whether hydrogenated water blunts the hormetic response to exercise and why it may be one of the few antioxidants one could potentially use in conjunction with hard exercise... -How hydrogenated water can act as an exercise mimetic, just like "exercise in a pill"... -The effects of hydrogenated water on exercise performance and also on digestive health... -The fascinating anti-allergenic and anti-exercise-induced asthma effects of hydrogenated water... -Why most people haven't heard of molecular hydrogen... -The link between molecular hydrogen and so-called "healing waters"... -How much hydrogen water you actually need to drink to get the benefits... -Where can people get molecular hydrogen? We've become too comfortable. We're innovating less and watching Netflix more. When I think of a "complacent class," (a group of people who don't care to move forward or move at all), I think of this: Americans soaking high wages off the backs of more aggressive global economies. I picture us eating delivered food, never moving, only using the remote. And having drones deliver everything we need. I had to ask Tyler Cowen about this. He's a personal computer that's going to answer all my economic questions. He knows all about the "complacent class." Because he wrote the book on it. It's called, "The Complacent Class: The Self-Defeating Quest for the American Dream". "Look at it this way," he said. "We've had these incredible advances in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. We take fossil fuels and powerful machines and combine them to do everything you can imagine (cars, airplanes, electricity, radios, televisions). We've had incredible booms spread to the middle class. Spread to the poor. We've done that. Now we're waiting for the next wave of big things." I have an idea of what the next big wave could be... I've written about it before. And I've interviewed the experts. But I wanted to know, will we be successful? "We're kind of running a race," Tyler said. "Will the next wave of innovations and productivity come before our debts do us in? Right now to me, it's looking like the answers no." What Tyler said next scared me. "America is losing its dynamism." But Tyler makes two distinctions here. The future is built on A) Innovation and B) PRODUCTIVITY. It's the persistence to do. I still feel we're trying to hit the frontier. We're exploring space. Improving biotech. Creating countless innovations. But is this progress coming from is only the 1%? Are the rest of us just sitting around? Waiting for the benefits? I wanted to hear the worst case scenario. I don't know why. Maybe sometimes fear pulls me in. It's like following a narrow path of light in a dark cave. I'm not interested in the dark. I'm following the light. But what he said next is a scary thought to consider... "The worst case scenario is that America's allies realize we cannot make good on all of our commitments. So they start fighting more amongst themselves. Trusting us less. Maybe building their own nuclear weapons. The fiscal position of the United States government becomes more and more cramped. We stop being credible. The quality of our governance continues to decline. And, both internationally and at home, we have a mess with warfare and partial collapse of international order. And here we have a return of something like the 1970s with high unemployment, high inflation and stagflation," Tyler says. So then what is our future? What can we depend on? In this podcast, I ask Tyler and he shows me how we can create a dynamic future... How we can keep reaching for the frontier. Thanks for reading!
