Should you try to make your thought leadership relevant to everyone? Or, is being focused the answer? To examine the effectiveness of "going narrow" with your thought leadership, I've invited David G Ewing to join me. David is a trailblazer in customer experience innovation, and the CEO of Motiv, the world's largest Oracle CX exclusive partner allowing clients to manage their customer experience (CX) through every step of their journey. David shares how he uses thought leadership to differentiate and drive business, by narrowly focusing on customer experiences using technology from a single vendor. This has allowed him to tackle any challenges a customer might bring his way. David explains that a narrow focus allows him to find the exact target customer which is a match made in heaven for both sides.  With thought leadership content focused directly on their pain points the customer knows from the outset the partnership is a good fit. Part of finding that focus came from coming up with a mission and motive.  David trimmed that down to a single word “Growth.” Having a one-word mission made it possible to have a lot of creativity while remaining focused. David shares excellent advice for going deep for elevated relevancy!   Three Key Takeaways: ·         The more focused you are the more useful you are despite being relevant to a smaller group of people. ·         Having a good and clear mission statement can allow you to stay focused on your vision. ·         It's never too early to start thought leadership.

Now, funny story, I'm actually working on this while body-doubling through Focus101 right now.Now in this episode, we'll be getting into exactly what body-doubling is and how it can be incredibly helpful for completing those tasks that are hard for us to follow through on on our own. We also talk about a number of other tools that can be used in conjunction with body doubling, such as the Pomodoro technique, alarms, using our calendars, and ways to break our tasks into smaller pieces.Check out Shane's Coaching - Creating Order From ChaosandThe Men's ADHD Support GroupSupport me on PatreonFeel free to ask me a question on my Contact PageFind the full show note at HackingYourADHD.com/160This Episode's Top Tips Body doubling is a technique where we work in the presence of another person, even virtually, to help provide accountability. What's bookkeeping? What's marketing? *PING* Did I just get an email? My guest, Erin, felt the tug of being pulled in every direction when starting her biz. Then she found her footing by embracing her beginner status, and using it to fail her way forward. If you've been feeling the pressure to get things perfect in your business, this one's for you. Can't-Miss Moments From This Episode:Spoiler Alert: that whole “I don't know what I'm doing” feeling never really goes away. Erin's six years in and she's still feeling it, and I feel it every time I try something new. Here's why that's NOT a bad thing…  Just because the person giving the keynote speech isn't crying on stage doesn't mean there weren't plenty along the way. Erin and I pull back the curtain on what the backstage of a biz really looks like (and why it's OK to be exactly where you are). To cry or not to cry: somewhere along the way it got real popular to add tons of D-R-A-M-A to business. STOP IT Y'ALL. Erin and I get good and ranty on how to tell if you're mixing up drama and authenticity in your marketing. Uncomfortable truth: silencing notifications and refusing to be instantly available 24/7 will NOT destroy your business and all life as we know it. If constant communication has you feeling anxious, check out our tips on being intentional (instead of reactive) with client communications. If you're not feeling particularly “Hell yeah!” in your business, that doesn't necessarily mean you need to completely overhaul everything. From little tweaks to big changes, Erin and I demonstrate how only YOU can create the right path for your business. This one is jam-packed full of advice. Don't miss out - listen now!Erin's Bio:Conversion copywriter. Copy Coach. Wing Woman. Word slinger. No matter what you call her, Erin Ollila believes in the power of words and how a message can inform—and even transform—its intended audience. When she's not working with big brands and small businesses to marry strategy, storytelling, and SEO, you can find her hosting the Talk Copy to Me podcast or exploring southeastern MA with her family and friends. Erin graduated from Fairfield University with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and then co-founded Spry Literary Journal, which celebrates undiscovered and established writers' concise, experimental, hybrid, modern, vintage or just-plain-vulnerable writing. Resources and links mentioned:Erin's siteErin's InstagramErin's PodcastCome kick ass with me:Permission to Kick Ass websiteAngie's Facebook PageAngie on InstaAngie on YouTubeDownload this episode

Today we are talking about Tip #2 for helping you to maintain work life balance, which is to Know Your Priorities and Schedule Them. If it's really important, time must be scheduled for it in your calendar. As I often say, honor thy calendar. In other words, do what your time blocks in your calendar say to do when they say to do them, assuming you have the right activities in it. Work and family are not the only important priorities, so be sure to schedule “you” time where you can refuel, rejuvenate, and tend to your own health and well-being. I believe that in order to stay focused on your high payoff activities and achieve your goals you must schedule everything in your calendar. Hello everybody and welcome to this week's episode of the Crushing It In Construction podcast. My name's Jordan Skinner, I'm your host  and this week I'm chatting with Matthew Glascott from Glasscott Landscape and Civil. Matt has an extremely interesting story because while he was building a hugely successful landscaping company he was also venturing out into other businesses like development, labor hire, and even e-commerce. But even though he really enjoyed these other ventures and learnt a lot, ultimately, they were just distractions from the work that he was most passionate about, which was landscape construction. Once he was aware that these other things were just distractions he focused his attention back on the landscaping industry and has since grown Glascott Civil to over 200 people across multiple locations. In this episode, Matt and I talk about how he actually started the company, some of the hurdles that he faced along the way and why he actually got distracted by all of these other business ventures only to return to the landscaping industry and really just settle in and focus in on that.  Let's get into the show.  CONTACT DETAILS:Matthew GlascottLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthewglascott/Website: https://theglascottgroup.com.au/Jordan SkinnerLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jordan-skinner-685439178/Website: https://moonshotmedia.com.au/

They later go on to discuss the situation that a lot of contractors find themselves in when making the decision of whether or not to get coaching where they don't have a lot of money to invest but if they don't invest they may get stuck where they are for many more years. Join Vince Gethings, as he chats with Bill Hamel who purchased his first property at 21 years old, as they chat mostly about the power of focus. Bill Hamel shares how in 2021 he was able to sell 40 buildings and utilize 1031 exchanges. Before he reached that point though, he had to go through the Great Recession where he already has a good portfolio and was so focused on protecting it that he lost all momentum. With more than 2 decades of experience in the field, Bill definitely had his share of dark times before realizing how powerful focus can be when mastered. He once wrote a manual for his previous company and in the end, left it due to being burnt out for not letting go of control. This episode is filled with different details on Bill's mindset when it comes to business so be sure to stay tuned!    Giving up control is healthier than holding onto it:  Bill shares how he once worked on an operations manual. A small document that quickly turned into a system of procedures that helped guide his employees. But the challenge for Bill came knocking eventually. He had a hard time letting go of the control and was always on the lookout for his employees, even stating that he never allowed them to fail, which inevitably meant they were never allowed to properly grow. That kind of leadership that he pulled on his team burnt him out. He would immediately take over a task that is not being done the way he wanted and that certainly became toxic for himself in the end. After 8 to 9 years, when he finished the manual, he just went up and left, letting go not only of control but also of being a property manager.     Mistakes don't make the business perfect but smoother:  Before the fire round with Bill, he shared two of the biggest mistakes he's done on his entire journey in the field. One of which was that they weren't so strict with the rules that they set when selecting tenants. They had a certain allowance for mishaps with the information that applicants hand over to them and that caused problems for them. This made Bill do another mindset shift and be properly professional with the system that they are following in order to avoid further mishaps as it not only makes business smoother and easier but also lowers a lot of risks.     About Bill Hamel:  Bill Hamel is an expert at deal selection, apartment rehab and value add opportunities. We have vast knowledge in deal flow, creative financing, and property management ensuring a routine process of finding, funding, and managing multi-family apartments.    Hamel Real Estate is a real estate investment company focusing on acquiring large multi-family properties, providing investment opportunities to potential investors to build wealth passively with multifamily properties.    Outline of the episode:   [01:23] Who is Bill Hamel and how he started with real estate investing [07:44] The thought process of moving from small-scale to large-scale [13:55]  Importance of being able to pause and recalibrating focus [17:41]  The biggest mistakes Bill did and how he recovered [24:23] Fire round with Bill Hamel [27:32] Bill's advice, have a great “why?” And many more!    Connect with Bill Hamel:  Website  LinkedIn  Facebook    Connect with Cashflow Project!  Website  LinkedIn  Youtube  Facebook  Instagram

As an entrepreneur, it's easy to get into the mindset that you must do all of the things all of the time. However, this way of thinking can become the biggest stumbling block on your path to success. Instead, you should focus on your one big thing. This one big thing may change throughout the seasons but maintaining your focus on one thing (rather than dozens of things) will help you master that one thing. In this episode, Carmen Reed-Gilkison and Deirdre Harter discuss the impact that focusing on one thing at a time can have. They discuss how keeping things simple will allow your business to thrive, while also alleviating your stress. Determine what your one big thing will be, come up with a strategy, and prepare to see success! Topics Include: Being focused Keeping things simsple Seasons of focus One thing at a time Where your focus matters Not letting fear control you Avoidance Determining your one big thing Mastery And other topics... Quotes of Impact [01:57 – 02:12] “We see lack of focus as the biggest stumbling block to success. The more you do, the less effective you are at doing it. Focusing on one thing at a time allows you to master that thing.” [02:39 – 02:50] “Think of how simple can you make things. Sometimes we just overcomplicate things. We think if it's more complicated it's going to work better, but that is not necessarily the case.” [05:15 – 05:25] “If you look at all the things that you want to do and that you want to get accomplished, you may have ten big goals for your business. But you can't do all ten things right now.” [07:18 – 07:28] “Are you focusing on what you think people want, or what they actually want? Are you focusing on what's easy for you instead of what serves your audience?” [11:55 – 12:17] “When you get this concept, that you need to do way less, first of all, it will alleviate stress and you will get the win. It may not be the finishing of this beautiful graphic that you just created, but you're going to get the win in the results that you're going to create.” [13:47 – 14:17] “By doing one thing, you are building that and you are mastering that. You wouldn't add your guest house onto your house that you haven't even built yet. Once you build it and have optimized it, then things naturally come to you. Through bringing it out into the world, through getting feedback, through seeing how your clients are interacting with it, that tells you what your next thing should be.” [17:12 – 17:20] “Focus in and of itself is not enough. You need a strategy to know what to focus on and what fits with your business.”Let's Connect! From Starbucks to Seven Figures with Emily Williams  Breaking free from the college to grad school to 9-to-5 construct is a story that inspires us and we all love to hear!  Well, this one includes a 180 turn on the drive to start graduate school to buying a ticket to London, meeting a husband through online dating, and starting a business that sky-rocketed to 7 figures in less than two years.  If you added all the details and highs and lows in between, it could be the next Netflix series!    (Spoiler alert:  The online dating portion of this adventure is actually in unpublished written form with all the possibilities for a Netflix pitch!)   Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:  Be inspired by Emily's journey of following her heart and intuition to find massive success in money and life.  Discover the limiting beliefs around money that hold us back.  Learn powerful strategies to get clear about what we really want and when we actually want them.  Resources:  My first book, Relationship Ready: How I Stopped Fucking Randos and Started Cupcaking My Soulmate, is available on Amazon and Audible. A common theme that pops up in our stories is perseverance. Anyone who lives a long life will, of course, go through hard times at some point. But for many of the combat Veterans we've interviewed, hard times are thrust upon them at an early age. That was the case for "Hank", whose story we hear in this episode of the "My Life, My Story" podcast. As a Marine in Vietnam, Hank saw combat up close, and his re-entry to the civilian world afterward was also rocky.Hank's story shows that perseverance doesn't always happen in a straight line. His life - and his approach to getting through tough times - takes several turns over the decades. His journey includes a trusted dog, upended relationships, a successful career . . . and a photograph.Every once in a while, a Veteran's story like Hank's brings up the idea of talismans, or good-luck charms. People hold on to little objects to remember good times gone by, or to ward off future calamity, or both. Do you have an object like that? If you'd like to tell us about it, or if you'd like to reach out to us about this podcast, send us a note at vhamadmystory@va.gov. We'd love to hear from you.

Hello Indie Authors! I'm Valerie Ihsan, and Episode 32 of the podcast and it's April 8, 2020 as I record this. Main Topic: Myths About Productivity But first the personal update segment:  My planned launch for FOCUS and FINISH this month has been largely post-poned.  Meaning, it's live and available but I'm not doing an advertised hard launch. I just think right now people's heads are elsewhere, with the virus and the presidential primary elections.  In case you haven't heard about it, It's a 1:1 six-month coaching and accountability program that includes a customized author action plan in workbook format. If you are interested in joining the program before the hard launch, you would be a Founding Member, and would get a substantial discount and a really ROCKIN' bonus. Please let me know by email at valerie@valerieihsan.com and I'll send you an invitation and discount code.  Ihsan is IHSAN. INSTEAD of the hard launch, I've opened up my schedule to individual coaching sessions to support authors through this weird and unsettling time. A lot of people are unfocused right now and may appreciate the chance to talk and get a few priorities identified, so they can get back to work-at-home. Especially helpful to those who haven't worked at home up until now. This service isn't offered on my website, but you can go to my scheduler tool valerieihsan.as.me to book a one-hour session. It's $150 and will go toward the cost of Focus and Finish, if you decide to go that route. I'M READING: In fiction,  I'm in between novels. Reading a colleague's manuscript right now, but next up is: MY BOOK, The Scent of Apple Tea (because I want to write a second epilogue involving Kyle after he goes home after the story ends--exclusively for my mailing list), and then, EITHER "In the River Sweet" by Patricia Henley, or Little Women again. Just finished Untamed by Glennon Doyle and o.my.god. Totally worth the read. I heart her.  Non-fiction: Just finishing up Make Noise: A creator's guide to podcasting and great audio storytelling. Next up is either Brave, Not Perfect y Reshma Saujani or Better Than Before: mastering the habits of our everyday lives by Gretchen Rubin. Plus, lots of memoirs are on my mind (I'll explain why in a minute) and I've got a stack of them to choose from. I'm leaning towards H is for Hawk, but Well Enough Alone: A cultural history of my hypochondria, Traveling with Pomegranates: a mother daughter story, and Wild Within: how rescuing owls inspired a family are also calling me. So many books to read! A bit more time to read them, but not really. We're finally getting some lovely sun in our Willamette Valley and is inspiring the desire to get outside and work in the yard. Speaking of which... Just starting to feel productive again. After being laid off at my day job as bookseller at Tsunami Books in Eugene, Oregon, it took me a week to get settled into what I want to work on and a more standard flow of days. And my standard, I don't mean what my schedule used to look like. I'm happy to announce that my week so far has been a juicy delicious balance of balance. At the end of the day, I can boast having worked on a writing project, an editing-for-hire project, a nature walk with my husband, a house chore, some alone time journaling and/or hot tubbing, and T.V. time. Even an errand fits in there.  I'm staying up a bit later but also sleeping in a bit later and not napping, but am resting throughout the day so that at the end of the work day, I am not jonesing for bed at 7 p.m. and grouchy until I actually go to sleep several hours later.  Writing update: a couple times a week, I sit in on a Zoom Write-In. Sometimes called Parallel Play with Words, it involves a 45 minute writing session where everyone is muted, and then a 15 minute water-cooler break for chatting, bathroom, and gathering tea and snacks. And then we do it again another time or two. I've been working on my memoir again. (Thus, the interest in reading more memoirs right now.) I've identified some key scenes and restructured the scenes I've already written. And pulled out some scenes that I don't think will fit anymore. BUT, I've printed it out hardcopy now and will go through it (macro style) with a marker and cut more. Then, I'll implement the chances into my Scrivener file and start fleshing out scenes and working in the transitions.   PATREON:  This podcast is sponsored by my patrons at Patreon.com/valerieihsan. I just joined and I'm really loving The Lab and The Forum and the mini-courses available to members. You can check it out at theauthorsuccessmastermind.com.  And now, the show: If I could only get organized! (I think I've said this to myself eighty million times.) Maybe I need a new schedule.... (This might be true, but not four days in to a new one.)(Also something I've said to myself a billion times.) What's wrong with me? (Maybe you think you're lazy, or not strong enough, or the work is too hard, or you have too many obstacles. But, the surprise answer is it's none of them. Or, at least none of them will stop you from being productive.)   Being organized really has nothing to do with getting and staying focused on a project. If you are feeling distracted by a mountain of papers in your office, or laundry piling up, or the taxes that still need to get done, you might not need to get organized, but you do need to get focused. Having a clear plan that you can look at when you do get distracted (because, let's face it, we live in a distracting world. Our kids are home from school for the rest of the year, we're laid off and trying to find the discipline to actually write full-time now--a dream for many listening to this podcast, or we're simply distracted by the media, the Covid-19 news, our travel plans all disintegrating, and the grief and anxiety surrounding it all. That's distracting. That's exhausting. We're trying to cope the best way we can and everything still feels like it's swirling around us. That's why getting organized might not be top priority right now, but getting focused will help. It will make a difference in your day-to-day life because you won't be spinning your wheels. All your hard work won't get lost in the shuffle.   Here's what I mean: we have a pretty big yard at my house. A lot of it isn't super usable--steep--but there is a lot of it. That means there is always something to do in it. Some years I'd have grandiose plans and I do a teeny bit of all the projects. I expand an enormous amount of energy and get none of the projects completed. Fail.  Some years I narrow my focus to, say, weeding. My husband and I each pick a bed and start weeding. Several hours later, neither of us are done, we're in pain, we're frustrated, and, most dangerous, think, "Why'd we even bother?" So two years ago, I figured it out. I picked One Thing. The back patio. We bought new patio furniture, we picked one main color and picked out a bunch of flowers (only for the patio) and the containers for each of them, and power-washed the concrete. We finished it. It looked freaking fantastic. And every time we walked past it or spent time out there, we felt great. We focused on one thing until it was finished, and even though there were blackberry vines and shiny geranium and ivy invading our hill and the grass never got mowed and the front lawn beds were overgrown. BUT, we'd finished something and it stayed finished.  The next season, we picked a new project and worked on it, after brushing up the patio. We've learned that we can't go to the hill in the backyard and weed. It doesn't look like we've touched it even after spending HOURS on it. So, instead, we pick a small nook by the hot tub and weed that. And finish it. And then we pick another bed, and finish that. And so it is with our author work. If we think, If only I could get organized!, so that we can start a mailing list, learn Amazon ads, finish drafting that manuscript, and homeschool our kids...in the next six months...hmmm....most likely, none of those will get done.  Unless, you pick one, focus on it, and finish it.   What are YOU focusing on this week? Let me know in the comments Or email me at Valerie@valerieihsan.com IHSAN and let me know what you're struggling with. Let's help each other out during this time of global crisis.   Peace to you. Stay well, stay home, stay safe. And now I'm going to go mow my lawn.

[[:encoded, "You have what they need! So, how do you get them to realize that you are the solution to what they are looking for, so they can be even more successful? Here are 5 steps for inspiring clients to want to work with you. It's a win-win for everyone.nnStep 1: Get Them TalkingnFirst and foremost, make the conversation about them. Take the focus off “getting the sale” and instead use this time together to evaluate if you are the best person to assist them. Remember, you don't want to work with anyone; you want to work ideal clients.nnAlthough you will be using this initial time together to evaluate if you want to work with them, keep the conversation focused on the prospective client.nnWhat is their current biggest struggle or challenge?nWhat is their most immediate or long-term goal?nWhat kind of support or guidance are they looking for?nnStep 2: Connect Them to Their Current PainnThere must be a starting point where you help the prospective client see where they are right now. In other words, they must know where they are right now before they can receive guidance to get where they want to go. From there, it's important to remember that there are only ever two driving forces behind customers and clients who sign up:nn1) Reducing/Eliminating pain or n2) Increasing pleasurennThe first step in inspiring them to work with you (assuming they are an ideal client and you want to work with them) is to help them feel their current pain. Get them talking about their biggest struggle or challenge - help them connect to the discomfort - and then lead them through Step 3. nnStep 3: Inspire Them to Imagine Future PossibilitiesnHelp them see that what they desire is possible - and that you can assist them in achieving it. Get them talking about their immediate and long-term goal(s) - asking how they feel imagining the real possibilities of their future. Reassure them that achieving any goal is simply a step-by-step process of “right steps” - and that you can successfully guide them through the process with greater ease and improved results.nnStep 4: Explain How You Can Help ThemnGo deeper into detail of how you can help them reduce their pain/increase their pleasure and achieve their goals. Emphasize in this step why you're the best person to assist them in this process, by detailing a brief overview of the steps involved. nn(Don't give too much away.)nnStep 5: Paint the BridgenThe final stage to inspiring clients to work with you is to paint the bridge. This is where you connect the dots by reviewing what you've discussed thus far.nn(If you are unclear about any information discussed, this is a good time to ask the prospective clients questions to clarify before you proceed with reviewing. You may also want to invite the prospect to share any last thoughts or ask questions they feel are important for you to know, before you proceed.)nnThe key in Step 5 is to accurately recap: 1) Their current pain, 2) Immediate or future goal(s), 3) Reassure them the goal is possible (if it's unrealistic, hint at how you can help craft a revised, attainable goal), and finally, 4) How you can effectively support them throughout the process and guide them to achieving their goals.nnDemonstrate that you understand, highlight your valuable expertise (and how it makes the process easier!) and instruct them how to sign up. Remember, you are the bridge to help them get from where they are to where they want to be.nnGo to http://www.accountabilitycoach.com/Achieve.Your.Goals.Free.Gifts.Now/ and get 3 FREE gifts including a special report on 10 Power Tips for Getting Focused, Organized, and Achieving Your Goals Now. 4 Bootstrap Marketing Ideas to Boost Revenue

[[:encoded, "Have you found yourself in a revenue crunch with your business? Generating revenue - fast - is your first priority, but how can you do that when your marketing budget is small or nonexistent.nnAt one time or another, every business owner has stumbled across this same challenge. The challenge being, how do you boost revenue when you have none to spend? nnMaking money doesn't always take money. These 4 Bootstrapping Marketing Ideas will help you to boost revenue, fast.nnBootstrap Marketing Tip #1: Reach Out To Past ClientsnWe've all heard the business adage: attaining the business of new clients far outweighs the cost (expenses, time, and effort) of attaining repeat business of existing clients. Reaching out to past clients via phone or email is one of the fastest ways to boost revenue easily. nnAction: Pick up the phone. Call your past clients and remind them you are here to help them in whatever way you can. You don't need to hard-sell…just extend a genuine offer of service that you think will benefit them in their business and/or life.nnBootstrap Marketing Tip #2: Create a SolutionnThis is the time to get back to the basics: How can you solve your clients' problem(s)? Identify their biggest point of pain or challenge - and create a solution. nnBootstrap Marketing Tip #3: Everyone Loves a SalenEveryone loves to save money; to feel like they are receiving even more value than what they are spending. To boost revenue, offer a 10% - 20% discount on services or programs, while offering deeper discounts (25% - 50%) on passive income items like products.nnAction: When designed properly, sales will not sacrifice your profits. Generally speaking, offer minimal or moderate discounts (10% - 20%) on high-cost items like services and programs, while offering deeper discounts (25% - 50%) on passive income items like books, ebooks and other strictly passive income items.
