Jill and Jack are back and this conversation is so powerful! This interview stands on its own. You do not need to have listened to their first episode to get a ton out of this conversation. Their initial interview on Episode 97 was less than a year into their non-monogamous adventure together. They have spent the last four years doing absolutely mind-blowing work on themselves and their partnership. Today, they share how they have arrived in the best place they've ever been. Spoiler alert: It was a LOT of hard work! Jill and Jack have been married for over 22 years and open for about the last five. They come from a deeply religious background and are former Mennonites who made a pitstop as Baptists on their way out of organized religion about a decade ago. Their initial entry into non-monogamy came during the aftermath of Jack getting happy-ending massages while he was still a Deacon in the Baptist church. They go into much more detail, but the very short version is that Jill was like "Okay... No more lying. We're a team. And by the way, I want to know if other guys want me as well!" Today we get behind the scenes on how they worked together to improve their communication, came through another infidelity, overcame decades of resentment, smoothed out their gas and brake pattern, and are finding ways to be in the moment and enjoy life together. As children, we idolize our parents. We place them on pedestals of all-knowing and all-having until one day, we realize who they really are. In this episode, Jill tells us of her struggle with this newfound awareness that came all too soon for her upon discovering that her father is an alcoholic. It takes just one event to question her entire childhood interactions with a man she describes when young as jolly, totally engaged, and doting. This traumatic event is a marker that plagues into her adulthood as she struggles to love again a man who chooses the bottle over her.

Welcome back to the Power of Witness Series!   This week we have Jill and Jack on the hot seat. They shared their story on our show on Episode 97 and Focus Fridays 1.7. If you haven't listened to the introduction episode for the Power of Witness series yet, we highly recommend it before jumping into this episode.   Power of Witness is a collaboration project with Catherine from Expansive Connection. She is a licensed counselor and relationship coach who works with people that are exploring consensual non-monogamy.   Power of Witness is a group coaching course in which each week a different couple is on the "hot seat" and will work one - on - one with Catherine while the other couples in the group "witness" them and then provide feedback at the end of their session. Specifically, for this series we have brought back four couples who have previously shared their stories on the podcast to sit on the hot seat over the the next four weeks. This isn't our traditional format but it was incredibly powerful for us as we joined them for the journey and we know it will be impactful for you as well.   In psychology, the term “bearing witness” refers to sharing ourselves and our experiences with others or holding space while others share themselves and their experiences with us. There is much we can learn when we are brave enough to open our hearts to one another. Witnessing another person and being witnessed are both gifts to the other person and to ourselves. I wouldn't come up with something like this on my own? Jack:                      If it sounds like we're going to talk about something Tony Robinson talked about, I didn't come up with it. Jill:                          If it sounds like really- Jack:                      If it sounds like something Bill Gates would talk about, I probably came up with it. Jill:                          Okay. Fine. All right. Before we get into the HTML discussion about ... Just kidding. Okay. All right. Daniel asked, "I have tried to get a hold of the index maps from a few counties and have come up empty handed. Can anyone shed some more light on who is the best person at the County office to talk to in order to obtain these maps, or any additional information that may be helpful? Thanks." Jack:                      Excellent question Daniel. In fact it's topical, it's perfect to the topic today. So a lot of ... New people in counties don't understand, very frequently, what an index map is. And what an index map is, quite simply, is this. If you picture a map of a county there are certain areas ... When it got all subdivided, there are certain areas where the APN that starts with, let's say, 100 might be in the north east corner. The APN that starts with 200 might be in the south east corner. And it gets mapped out, it's a map that literally indexes the APN scheme based on the numbers. So, depending on where you are in the country, they don't call it an index map, they call it an APN map or a bunch of other stuff. Out west here they do call it index maps, which is why ... That's what we call it. But, let's say that you've talked to 19 people at the county and no one has any idea what you're talking about, here's what you do. This is really the show. This is the show. Jill:                          It's actually funny 'cause it's like ... You know what ... I gotta pause and interject here 'cause, you think you're ... I mean, let's be honest, they're real people. They may not have been there for a long time, they may be filling in for somebody, they may be brand new. They may just have not- Jack:                      They may be dizzy eating cake. Jill:                          They may just be in their own little world and all they do is stamp things 'cause that's all they do, and pass them to the next person. So, it's funny, you call the County and you think you're getting a wealth of information, like a formally trained librarian- Jack:                      Like a library, yeah.
