Business owners and leaders face many challenges, questions, and hurdles. Leaders at smaller businesses and organizations often address these issues alone. In this episode, we speak at length with Hendrik-Jan Francke, owner of Bright Orange Thread, to explore how peer groups can aid business owners and leaders to unlock both profit and joy in their work. Hendrik-Jan shares how these structured learning environments give leaders the space to step away from daily operations, think more strategically, and learn from the experience of others. We also discuss how the right group dynamic – shaped by thoughtful facilitation, diverse perspectives, and mutual trust – can lead to better decision-making, stronger leadership, and more fulfilling growth for both the leader and the business.OUR PARTNERSouthern Chester County Chamber of CommerceLINKSBright Orange ThreadWebsite: brightorangethread.comCareers: brightorangethread.com/careersRemote job shadow: brightorangethread.com/remote-job-shadow-programLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/bright-orange-threadFacebook: facebook.com/brightorangethreadPeer GroupsASCENDSCCCC RoundtableAdditional LinksTaste Local EatsNew London Counseling CenterRelated EpisodesEmpowering High Performing People and Teams with Bob CoxChanging Careers and Building a Local Business with Jason FellerTRANSCRIPTThe full episode transcript will be posted on our website as soon as it is available.
I am very excited to bring you Part 2 of my conversation with clinical nutritionist and co-founder of Hamptons BioMed, Tapp Francke. In last week's episode, we talked about learning about your own body's “terrain,” focusing on vitamins, nutrients, the gut biome, genetics, and how testing can guide smarter supplement choices and better overall health. In Part 2, we explore the environmental factors that quietly shape our health. Everyday exposures — including plastic, fragrance, EMFs, blue light, mold, and processed foods — can influence hormones, immune function, biological aging, and long-term resilience. Tapp explains why what we absorb through our skin and environment matters just as much as what we eat, and how small, practical changes can reduce ongoing stress on the body. This episode completely changed how I think about food, fragrance, water, and the environment I move through every day. It's not about eliminating everything or doing it “perfectly,” but about becoming more aware of what our bodies are constantly absorbing — and how small changes can add up to meaningful long-term impact.Hosted on Ausha. In this episode of Defining Boundaries, Peta sits down with Jan Francke, a geophysicist, inventor and self described explorer who has spent more than 35 years working with ground penetrating radar and near surface geophysics.Born in Vancouver and raised between Canada and Australia, Jan shares how curiosity, competition with himself, and a desire to explore what others were not looking at shaped his unconventional career path. From mineral exploration in the Arctic and Africa to scanning beneath Mayan temples in Mexico and working inside the Great Pyramid of Giza, Jan explains how he designs custom radar systems for environments where standard tools are simply not enough. The conversation explores innovation, risk taking and the importance of education in a rapidly evolving industry. Jan reflects on modifying equipment when the market did not yet offer what he needed, the responsibility of communicating science clearly, and the challenge of maintaining rigour in a world often drawn to spectacle.Together, Peta and Jan unpack the breadth of ground penetrating radar applications, from mining and infrastructure to autonomous vehicles and even lunar exploration. They also discuss curiosity as a driving force, the role of resilience in a global career, and why after three decades in the field, there is still so much beneath the surface waiting to be discovered. This episode is a fascinating conversation about science, exploration and the power of asking better questions. You can find Jan on LinkedIn and through his global geophysics work.https://www.linkedin.com/in/jan-francke-gpr/
In Part 1, Leslie sits down with clinical nutritionist Tapp Francke to talk about a more personalized, functional approach to health. Instead of only treating symptoms, they explore what might be happening underneath — from nutrition levels to gut health to individual biology. Tapp also shares how her own recovery journey reshaped the way she thinks about care and healing.Together, they unpack topics like micronutrient testing, genetics, methylation, and why supplement choices shouldn't be based on trends alone. The conversation connects the dots between gut health, mood, energy, and immune function in a way that's practical and easy to follow. Leslie asks the kinds of questions many listeners are already wondering about. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by wellness advice or unsure where to start, this episode will help bring some clarity. It's grounded, thoughtful, and focused on helping you better understand your own body. Part 1 sets the stage for making more informed, personalized health decisions.Hosted on Ausha. This show originally aired in 2024. How do you go from a W-2 job to becoming a full-time real estate investor? In this episode of The Real Wealth Show, Kathy Fettke talks with Grant Francke about how he built an $8M+ real estate portfolio by focusing on conservative underwriting, strong cash flow, and the right investor mindset. Grant shares how he overcame analysis paralysis, gained confidence in his numbers, and scaled his portfolio through small-to-mid-size multifamily properties. He breaks down what new investors often miss when evaluating deals, how to budget properly for maintenance and vacancies, and why systems and processes are essential for building a self-managing real estate business. Whether you're working toward your first rental property or looking to scale with less stress, this episode reveals what actually separates successful real estate investors from those who never take the leap.

As CEO of the Chartered Management Institute for over a decade, Ann Francke has spent some time thinking about what good management looks like and how organisations achieve it. Tune in to her conversation with Nurole CEO Oliver Cummings to hear her answers to: How can we know that investing in leadership causes high-performance, rather than there just being correlation? (9:13) If you were on the board of a highly-successful organisation and you heard a horror story about the CEO, what would you do? (11:29) How do you decide when to speak up and when to hold your tongue about what you feel is right? (16:22) How can board members evaluate their organisation's management? (22:55) How do you balance intuition and data-led questioning? (27:52) How do you think about balancing technical and managerial competence? Today's case is one we covered when we first started the show. I'd always planned on re-recording it and now seemed like the perfect time since so much has happened since our initial recording. Unfortunately though, this case (which is more than 30 years old) remains unsolved. But a man named Frank Gable spent almost that entire time locked away for the murder - despite strong evidence that he didn't commit the crime. This is the unsolved murder of Michael Francke with the wrongful conviction of Frank Gable.
In 1980, Prison Director Michael Francke was brought into the New Mexico prison system to investigate several prison riots taking place that left 33 dead. He completely reformed the system in New Mexico. In 1987, the Governor of Oregon asked him to take over their troubled prison system. Just days after telling his family that he was about to unleash the bombshell that would rock the entire system, he was stabbed to death near his car in front of his office. A man named Frank Gable was quickly tried and convicted of Francke's murder. However, today, he is a free man who's charges were dismissed with prejudice. So, who killed Michael Francke, and why? Join Mark & Amy as they take a deep dive into the case that is Michael Francke. Back to the headlines this week when Vanessa updates us on a past story and dives into current headlines once again. "Day of Chaos" by Kevin MacLeod
Michael Francke, then the head of the Oregon Department of Corrections, was murdered at work in 1989. The case is both fascinating and disturbing. We know that Francke uncovered corruption within the agency. We know that he was scheduled to testify before a key legislative committee the next morning. We know that Frank Gable, who was prosecuted and convicted of the murder, has been exonerated--and that Francke's family believed Gable was innocent all along. But, three decades later, we still don't know who killed Michael Francke--or why they did it. In this episode, we talk to three guests who are experts on the case: Kevin Francke (Michael's brother), Phil Stanford (a journalist who covered the story for decades), and Lauren Bright Pacheco, the host of "Murder in Oregon" about the case. We cover the basics of the case and jump into the controversy, intrigue, characters, and the many unsolved mysteries. Importantly, we discuss why this case still matters today--and why we should all care about justice for Michael and the Francke family. Finally, we talk about what should happen next. We highly recommend the "Murder in Oregon" podcast, a twelve-episode series that features interviews with Nigel Jaquiss, former Oregon State Treasurer Jim Hill, former State Rep. Chuck Sides, journalist Jim Redden, and many more. You can listen on Spotify, Apple, or wherever you get your podcasts.

In this episode, Tim Pilleri & Lance Reenstierna have an incredible conversation with podcasting superstar, Lauren Bright Pacheco. They speak about Lauren's career journey and then dig deep into the assassination of Mr. Michael Francke & wrongful conviction of Frank Gable. This is also the subject of Lauren's show Murder in Oregon. In January of 1989 the dir. of Oregon's Department of Corrections, Michael Francke, was brutally stabbed to death outside his office in Salem. It was quickly ruled a “car burglary gone wrong” and pinned on a low-level drug dealer named Frank Gable, a man who Francke's own brother, Kevin, along with storied Oregon reporter Phil Stanford, believe has been wrongfully imprisoned for nearly 30 years. They believe Francke had uncovered a trail of corruption in the prison system— one that led to the top of Oregon's political establishment. In Part 2, we continue our deep dive into what happened to Michael Francke, We discuss possible suspects, how the person who was charged became the focus of the investigation and the outcome of the trial. Did they arrest the right person? Did they convict the real perpetrator? And what did Michael Francke's family believe?
Michael Francke moved to Salem, Oregon to be the director of the State Department of Corrections and address problems in their prison system. Michael was the perfect candidate… he was an honorable and fearless leader who believed honesty was a requirement for every public servant. Tragically, in 1989 he was found murdered. In Part 1, we follow detectives as they search for possible suspects and determine if it was a robbery gone wrong or if there were more nefarious forces at work.
One thing is clear to me. The progress of DEI efforts in organizations has stalled. New research findings released by the Charted Management Institute or CMI, in the United Kingdom last month reveals a growing sentiment towards DEI efforts. People are growing weary of DEI. In the Managers Pulse Point Survey, CMI found that despite ongoing efforts and activity towards gender equality, workplace gender equity remains elusive. The research has also revealed that employees, particularly men are either passive and or actively resisting DEI efforts. These findings highlight for me the current state of DEI, which is fatigue. While there has been huge amount of inequality, awareness raising with things like the 'me too' movement and the 'anti-racism' movement, when this is not met with tangible action it can lead to feelings of exhaustion, isolation, frustration and sometimes skepticism about DEI efforts. People from typically underrepresented groups experience this as all DEI talk and no action, which leads to disengagement. But the reverse is true for people in dominant positions in workplaces, typically white men. They perceive all the DEI talk as action and believe activity is underway to address the issues, even though very little changes actually take place. So consequently, they feel left out, disengaged and disillusioned with DEI efforts, believing too much focus is being given to these topics. Joining us on today's episode is Ann Francke, Chief Executive of CMI, to discuss these findings and share why we need to fight DEI fatigue if we want to meaningfully advance diversity, equity and inclusion at work. Hillary and Tina cover US Senator Jesse Helms and Oregon Department of Corrections Director Michael Franke. Hillary's Story Jesse Helms was known for his racism and bigotry. BUT despite that, he maintained his seat for over 30 years allowing him to pass harmful legislation impacting marginalized communities in the US. Tina's Story Michael Francke had a solid legal career in the criminal justice system in New Mexico and was appointed as director of the Oregon department of corrections in 1987.
