Guest: Angela McArdle. Co-hosts Joanne Leon, Kelley Lane and Kyle Anzalone. This is a swapcast for the Around the Empire podcast and the Conflicts of Interest show. It’s a broad discussion about war and foreign policy, interventionism, elections and the handling of the pandemic with lockdowns and other restrictions and its impact on the lives of Americans, the economy and our rights. On COI #84, Kyle is joined by Angela McArdle, Joanne Leon, and Kelley Lane to discuss forming broad antiwar and anti-lockdown coalitions. The US empire is stronger than ever in 2021, with wars and interventions expanding from West Africa to Central Asia to the tune of $1 trillion a year. At home, Americans are locked down, masked up and ordered to avoid all human contact. While opposing wars and lockdowns are critical issues for libertarians, Americans all over the political spectrum are increasingly ready to beat back the empire. Angela, Joanne, Kelley and Kyle discuss the need – and opportunity – to unite all who stand against tyranny on these important issues. Angela McArdle is the Chair of the Los Angeles Libertarian Party and a candidate for Chair of the Libertarian Party National in 2022. http://angelamcardleforcongress.com/ Joanne Leon is the Host of Around the Empire. On COI #73, Joanne Leon - host of Around the Empire - returns to the show to discuss Biden's foreign policy. The mainstream media is pushing the narrative that Biden's foreign policy is radically different than Trump's. While there are some differences, like Yemen, Biden has mostly picked up Trump's wars. The foreign policy blob is pushing the narrative that Trump destroyed US relations with NATO allies and Biden is desperately trying to fix them. Trump only opposed NATO rhetorically and his Russia policy was more aggressive than Obama's. NATO just announced that it believes the Taliban are not living up to the peace agreement with the US, signaling NATO forces will remain in Afghanistan past May 1st. NATO is also planning to increase troops in Iraq from 500 to 4,000. On COI #69, Joanne Leon, host of Around the Empire, returns to the show to discuss the 2020 election. A new Time magazine article - The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election - explains how an 'elite-cabal' 'saved democracy' by 'influencing perceptions, changing rules and laws, steering media coverage and controlling the flow of information.' These actions are not illegal, but they affirm the feeling of many Americans that something was wrong with the 2020 election. Joanne and Kyle argue that the article is even more nefarious than it appears. The bold, and likely exaggerated, claims about the cabal's influence are reported as unquestionably heroic. While any effort by Trump or his supports to question or challenge the 'shadow campaign' is treated as an evil attack on democracy. The message is: Americans need our elites to craft the appropriate narrative so Americans consume the right information and vote for the correct candidate. Will Porter is a freelance journalist with a focus on US foreign policy and conflicts abroad. His work can be found at the Libertarian Institute, Antiwar.com and Consortium News In American political life, few officials have weathered as many storms as former CIA director John Brennan. With a career marred by a virtually endless series of scandals, Brennan’s ability to maneuver himself within institutions of power has served him exceptionally well both inside and outside of government.Brennan’s decades-long tenure at the CIA presents a microcosmic portrait of US foreign policy since the fall of the Soviet Union—a true exemplar of the American role in a “unipolar” world. His name has become synonymous with torture, regime change, targeted assassinations, drones, spying, the arming of foreign militias and now, in the era of Trump, politicized intelligence. But that may have finally come to an end. The recent revocation of Brennan’s security clearance could represent the final nail in a coffin that, until now, has simply refused to stay shut.Join us in this 3 part series reviewing Brennan’s career at the CIA, the litany of scandals tied to his name, as well as what could come next for the retired intelligence officer.
