In the first part of this episode, Lisa is joined by our German members Jakob, Nezam and Sebastian to discuss the crisis and history of DIE LINKE. They reflect on Platypus panels, interviews, and PR articles to think about the recent manifestations of the crisis within DIE LINKE and the radical Left's relation to the party. They talk about the international influence of the party and its impact on the entire Millennial Left generation. The second part of this episode features interviews conducted by our member Nezam at the conference of the faction „Revolutionärer Bruch“ („revolutionary split/break”) in January of this year. The faction was founded by members of DIE LINKE and its youth organization Linksjugend solid to discuss various strategies for moving forward and to deepen the assumption that DIE LINKE might no longer be a political home for the Left. Being friends with Caryma Sa'd is FUCKING INCREDIBLE. Not only are she and her cameraman a blast to do dinner and a Jays game with, but she's the kindest lightning rod you'll ever meet. After two years of simply documenting the dumbest people in this country at freedom rallies, Caryma set her sights on documenting Ontario political rallies. She does them all. Except for Premier Doug Ford's rallies. She's been banned from those for her political cartoons and advocacy against another 4 years of Ford Governance. Peacefully, with academic brilliance. Yesterday, Premier Ford had her arrested after he invited and accepted her RSVP to his rally in Hamilton. Brutally arrested I may add because he fucking HATES her. Doug Ford sanctions political violence against dissenting opinions. It's happened 3 times in less than 10 days and yesterday's kettling of a quiet, kind critic of Doug ford was intentionally injured by Doug Ford. For real. Caryma recounts the story of her humiliating arrest and what this means for political free speech in Ontario. While you were sleeping, Trudeau minted Bell and Rogers to continue to fuck over Canadian's EGREGIOUS internet/wireless rates. Peter Nowak from Teksavvy and Professor Michael Geist drop in to discuss WHY the Trudeau government won't fight for Canadians when it comes to Telco's bending us over and how Trudeau spun Bell and Rogers's good fortune. The Oilers are off to their first Western Conference finals in a million years because Connor McDavid is an alien. Lochlin's in Edmonchuck and not only is he predictable a Cup Final but he thinks Matthews wants to be traded to the Middle Earth which is a lie. That didn;t stop him from making Auston Matthews Trade trend, sending Leaf Nation into a coma.
Today we're covering: - How YOU can tell the government to lower your internet rates! Bell, Rogers, and Telus only agree on attracting foreign investors. They have colluded with the CRTC to force Canadians into EXORBITANT wireless/internet fees. Canada pays more for the internet than any country on the planet because of the telco Oligopy. Ian Scott, the head of the CRTC, is now under investigation for holding dozens of private, off-the-record mtgs with executives from Bell, Rogers, and Telus, and his term as chair won't be renewed. I think there's something fishy going on here because there is, and YOU are being forced to pay for it. Visit paylesstoconnect.ca today and help us lower internet rates for all Canadians. #DougFord, the Premier of Ontario, had his personal security detail beat the shit out of some nurses prior to his piss poor performance in last night's leadership debate, and the video is INSANE. Speaking of health care, did you know since Doug dropped mandates and restrictions, 3200 people have died in this province? TRIPLE the death toll of a restricted province 3 months previous. Why is MSM not talking about it? Dean will tell you!

You know the scene in the superhero movie where the hero is inspired to do good by reading another comic book? What happens when that occurs in real life? This week, Justin speaks to author Peter Nowak about his new book, The Rise of Real-Life Superheroes and the Fall of Everything Else, about the deep and sometimes complicated world of real-world caped crusaders. Originally broadcast on CJRU 1280 AM in Toronto. Produced by Jacob Dubé. Stay tuned for the CJRU fund drive, starting Nov. 13!
Peter Nowak is a former staff reporter and editor at The Globe and Mail, National Post, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and New Zealand Herald and has won journalism awards in two countries. His work has appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald, New Scientist, Boston Globe, Toronto Star and many others. His first book, Sex, Bombs and Burgers, was a Macleans bestseller and his second book, Humans 3.0., was published in five countries. In his third non-fiction book - The Rise of Real-Life Superheroes and the Fall of Everything Else - Peter delves into the mysterious world of the thousands of real men and women who don masks and costumes to fight crime and help the helpless while the rest of the world falls apart. Read more about Peter on his website And, go and buy his book ‘The Rise of Real-Life Superheroes: and the Fall of Everything Else’ (or order from your local independent bookstore)
You know the scene. A pair of muggers are in an alleyway when a superhero leaps down and beats them to a pulp. It’s a classic scenario, but in a year when we’re reassessing the role of law enforcement in the real world, is it time to reimagine the role of vigilante super-cops in fantasy worlds? I talk with prosecutor Patrick O’Connor and police officer Henry Wong about how Batman or The Punisher could better reflect the times. Matthew Westfox, co-host of the podcast Superhero Ethics, discusses the moral quandaries of Daredevil. Peter Nowak, author of “The Rise of Real-Life Superheroes,” explains why costumed crime fighters are no longer just in fiction, and we hear from The Grim and Violet Valkyrie, who actually patrol the streets of San Diego as their superhero alter-egos. My friend and connection Peter Nowak, CEO and Founder of the DONUT, interviews me on the social network. We discuss my life growing up, collegiate athletics, podcasting and the current state of race in America.

This week on the SyrupCast MobileSyrup features editor Igor Bonifacic, telecom reporter Sameer Chhabra and freelance tech reporter and author Peter Nowak discuss everything the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has been doing lately. Last week, the CRTC issued a follow-up decision to the Canada Broadband Fund. Under the regulator's previous chair, Jean-Pierre Blais, the recommended broadband target was set at 50Mbps download and 10Mbps upload speed. Now the CRTC has halved that number to 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload for rural and remote communities across Canada. Friend of the podcast and telecom journalist Peter Nowak has some thoughts on the matter that he tweeted out last week. Among other announcements this past week, the CRTC denied the Fairplay Canada coalition on 'jurisdictional grounds.' The team talks about how the CRTC pointed out that there is already a copyright review under way in Parliament that it states is a better fit for the discussion of whether or not to block websites that facilitate piracy. The first ever episode of Max Talks AI was a book review of Humans 3.0 written by Peter Nowak. It has been a great pleasure to have him on my podcast. Peter and I talked about burgers, the future of voice technology, privacy, and the skill of staying positive and optimistic. Peter Nowak has been writing about technology since 1997. He is a former staff reporter and editor at The Globe and Mail, National Post and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Toronto, and the New Zealand Herald in Auckland. In 2006, he was named Journalist of the Year by the Telecommunications Users Association of New Zealand and in 2009, he won the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance award for Excellence in Science and Technology Reporting. Peter’s first book, Sex, Bombs and Burgers: How War, Porn and Fast Food Created Modern Technology As We Know It, spent several weeks on the Maclean’s best-seller list in Canada. His second book, Humans 3.0: The Upgrading of the Species, has been published in five countries. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bigfanofhumanrace/message
Artificial Intelligence will make us better, not kill us. My take on the topics raised in a brilliant book 'Humans 3.0: The Upgrading of the Species' by Peter Nowak. Our species is entering a new era. Millions of years ago, we created tools to change our environment: caves became huts, fires became ovens, and clubs became swords. Now, we're applying the latest advancements to our own biology, and technology is becoming part of the process. But is that a good thing? Veteran jounalist and bestselling author Peter Nowak looks at what it means to be human - from the relationships we form and beliefs we hold to the jobs we do and the objects we create - and measures the impact that those innovations have had and will have in the future. Please enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bigfanofhumanrace/message
This week on the SyrupCast, Igor Bonifacic, Rose Behar and Patrick O'Rourke are joined by Peter Nowak to talk about former Telus executive, Ian Scott, joining the CRTC and the future of wireless in Canada. Scott, who has 25 years of experience in the Telecom industry, will be taking over as the head of the CRTC. The team is wondering if Scott will follow in the footsteps of Jean-Pierre Blais and be a consumer advocate, or if he will toe the party line. As the government works hard to ensure fair rulings in Telecom, the industry itself is trying to push for improved technology and better offerings. Huawei and Telus just finished testing 5G technology in BC and the advances has the SyrupCast team pondering the future impact on wireless in Canada. Tune in to hear the SyrupCast team's thoughts.
