HR3 - Xavier Watts & Billy Bowman Jr. must make impact for Falcons to get over hump In hour three Ali Mac, Mike Johnson, and Beau Morgan let listeners call in and give their take on if they want to see Atlanta Falcons players and other NFL players play flag football in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the Wake Up Call! Then, Mike, Beau, and Ali continue to talk about what the expectations should be for third round pick Xavier Watts and fourth round pick Billy Bowman Jr. The Morning Shift crew also explains how the development of Xavier Watts and Billy Bowman Jr. are key to a Falcons' playoff push this season. Mike, Beau, and Ali also continue recap and react to the Atlanta Braves losing to the Washington Nationals 5-3 last night, and Spencer Strider struggling in his first start since he went on the injured list on April 21st with a strained right hamstring after making just one appearance earlier in the season. The Morning Shift crew also lets you hear Braves' General Manager Alex Anthopoulos talk about how it's unlikely that Ronald Acuña Jr. will be back with the Braves on Friday, react to what Anthopoulos had to say, and explain why the Braves are right to not rush Acuña Jr. back. Finally, Mike, Beau, and Ali close out hour three by diving into the life of Beau “Squidbilly” Morgan in The Life of Squid.
What kind of expectations should fans have for the Falcons rookie class in 2025 and beyond? Dukes and Bell open up the show with an interview with Falcons rookie Billy Bowman Jr. as he talks with the guys about being ready to be a dog for the Falcons' defense. They then spend some time sharing thoughts on Brian Snitker's decision to pinch hit Eddie Rosario for Eli White in what would be the final Braves at bat in their 4-3 loss to the Reds. As they discuss, they give their opinions on whether or not this was a situation in which Snitker did not need to rely on analytics.
After a brief intro the guys jump into talking about Gavin Sawchuk entering the transfer portal (2:15). The Sooners pick up a new wide receiver out of the portal and we have no idea if he will be a relevant player in 2025. Grant wishes OU would have paid a lot of money for the Cal transfer tight end (12:50). The Sooners picked up a new kicker out of the portal and we hope he makes field goals when asked to do so (22:40). We wanted OU to pick up a new corner out of the portal, but that didn't happen. The Sooners also lost a quarterback to the portal. Does this mean Hawkins has improved (31:10)? Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman got drafted over the weekend plus the guys deal with some technical difficulties. Is it a problem that OU only had 2 players drafted in 2025 (38:30)? A shocking Dillon Gabriel draft position. Grant was bored by Shedeur Sanders taking up all the oxygen over the weekend (51:00). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
Mike Johnson, Beau Morgan, and Ali Mac continue to talk about some position battles the Atlanta Falcons' 2025 draft class and undrafted free agent signings could create, and also talk about how Falcons' fourth round pick Billy Bowman Jr. will challenge Dee Alford and Clark Phillips for that nickel corner spot.

In the absence of new developments on the defensive coordinator front, the Guyz revisit some of their priors with the Jim Knowles' pursuit, what the holdup might be, and how the fit would ultimately work if he does sign on as the next defensive coordinator at the University of Oklahoma. We dip our toes into recruiting waters, as the coaches are visiting high schools this week and OU made the cut for a couple 2026 guys. Next, Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman are headed to the Senior Bowl soon, so the Guyz discussed their hopes for those two and Ethan Downs as NFL draft prospects. Finally, there's some light discussion on the CFP and NFL playoff hunt, before we round the show out with our PGP MVPz of the Week.

Chase Robinson and Chris Lee preview South Carolina's road trip to Oklahoma, which can be seen on the SEC Network at 11:45 Central. Topics include: The Gamecocks nearly pulled an upset at Alabama, while injury-plagued Oklahoma couldn't move the ball last week against Texas. Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is a headache to handle as a big guy who can really run. Rocket Sanders has flashed good things much of the year, just as he did against Alabama. Is Nyck Harbor nearing a breakout after a big catch last week? Oklahoma's run defense, led by Grayson Halton and Danny Stutsman, has been excellent. South Carolina turns the ball over frequently, and could be at risk of a Billy Bowman pick-6. But Oklahoma also turns the ball over, and the Carolina defense, with Dylan Stewart and Kyle Kennard up front and Nick Emmanwori, O'Donnell Fortune, Vicari Swain and others on the back end, can also create scores of its own. Michael Hawkins did big things in the win over Auburn, but does he have enough help to beat an outstanding defense? Chase Robinson and Chris Lee preview and share their predictions for the Red River Rivalry game between Texas and Oklahoma in Week 7 of the 2024 college football season. Topics include: Texas has incredible offensive depth, starting with the quarterback room of a (presumably healthy) Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning. The Longhorns have so many players on offense including Gunnar Helm, Isaiah Bond, Ryan Wingo, Matthew Golden, Jaydon Blue and Jerrick Gibson. Oklahoma's defense has 18 sacks and has forced turnovers on an elite 3.8% of snaps. The Longhorns' offensive line, led by Kelvin Banks, will have to be up to the task of blocking Danny Stutsman and company while Texas will have to keep the ball out of safety Billy Bowman's hands. Oklahoma has been injury-riddled at offensive line and receiver. Can the Sooners get a little healthier following a bye week? The Sooners will also get Michael Hawkins an extra week of practicing with the first team; Hawkins started the season as a backup to Jackson Arnold. Oklahoma has guys who can make plays like Deion Burks and (if they can get him healthy) Nic Anderson. Texas has so many playmakers on defense; seven different players (Jahdae Barron, Ethan Burke, Andrew Mukuba, Wardell Mack, Jay'Vion Cole, Derek Williams and Anthony Hill) have interceptions and the Longhorns have plenty of other playmakers up front like Trey Moore and David Gbenda. Chase Robinson and Chris Lee preview and share their predictions for Oklahoma's road trip to Auburn in Week 5 of the 2024 college football season. Topics include: There's quarterback instability at Auburn. Peyton Thorne was benched two games ago, but returned in relief last week against Arkansas after Hank Brown also had a problem throwing interceptions. Who'll start this week? There could be quarterback instability at Oklahoma, too. Jackson Arnold got benched during the Tennessee game after another slow start. Will it be Arnold or Michael Hawkins this week? The Sooners have been devastated by injuries along the offensive line and receiver, and now, star defender Kendal Dolby is also out. We'd bet you didn't know that Auburn ranks second in the SEC at 8.0 yards per play. The problems: The Tigers turn it over on 6.1% of offensive snaps (of which they average just 58 a game) and have accumulated a lot of those stats against two awful defenses (Alabama A&M, New Mexico). Oklahoma leads the country with 12 turnovers gained, and has a ball-hawking safety in Billy Bowman who can easily create scores for the defense. We give you reasons why each team could win. Chris Lee is joined by Tony Basilio to preview the Tennessee vs. Oklahoma matchup in Week 4 of the 2024 college football season. Topics include: How good is Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava? Where are the areas where he needs to get better? Tennessee running back Dylan Sampson is developing into a superstar? Oklahoma has plenty of answers defensively with a good line and All-Americans Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman in the back seven, as well as a deep secondary. How will Tennessee's deep and talented defensive line, led by All-American James Pearce, attack Oklahoma's wounded offensive front? The Vols could have issues covering Deion Burks and Nic Anderson. How will Oklahoma's Jackson Arnold fare, and can OU protect him? Is there an X-factor from either team that could jump up and have a big game? What's really going through Josh Heupel's head as he visits the alma mater that once fired him?
After a bit of a preamble to set the table, the guys begin to talk about what Brent Venables said at his Monday presser. It sounds like the super fast, high up tempo Jeff Lebby speed offense may be a thing of the past (02:15). Tyler Keltner is going to get the first crack at kicking FGs and Lee was not thrilled with Venables explaining why Billy Bowman will be the one returning kicks (08:10). It sounds like Jayden Jackson is the real deal, but Grant continues to be concerned about this development. Venables also explained why Michael Hawkins is the backup quarterback instead of Casey Thompson (13:20). Finally, Venables had an intriguing comment about one of the true freshman players on offense (21:50). On to the Big Season Preview as we tell you all the questions about OU that we are most interested to get answered once real football is being played (25:00). We go over things that we are sure of about OU, that we hope to be proven wrong about in 2024 (42:20). We predict OU's final regular season record and explain how e got there (47:55). Random thoughts about the rest of the interesting teams in the SEC (57:00). OU's Week 1 depth chart came out just before we started recording the show. There's actually a lot of stuff to talk about. We go position by position beginning with the offense (1:40). We switch over to the defense where Grant is quite worried by Jayden Jackson being listed as a starter by himself at DT. And I guess they're going for it with Billy Bowman taking kickoff return duties (15:40). Now it's time to throw out hot takes about OU. Lee had a difficult time thinking of hot takes, while Grant brings quite a few to the table (28:00). Grant has some fire SEC-themed hot takes (51:30). We get to the rest of college football. Lee is coming around on USC for 2024, while Grant is absolutely not. Plus Grant has some more Big Ten hot takes and Lee comes up with a Penn State hot take off the top of his head. Grant finishes up with an interesting hot take about Oklahoma State (53:30). We go to the WoE Facebook page to read off your hot takes to end the show (1:06:30). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets

Gabe Ikard and Teddy Lehman answer the following listener questions about OU football heading into the 2024 season: @SoonerVirginia- What are you guys thinking for the linebacker rotation alongside Stutsman? Does someone besides Kip Lewis rise up and take snaps? If so, how many guys get significant field time at the Mike? Also, has the room progressed to the point where we can spell Danny when needed? Gary O'Mealey- Other than Jackson Arnold, Danny Stutsman, and Billy Bowman, which OU player showing up on the post-season All-SEC team would be the best indicator of OU having had an excellent season? @bhalaajee- Which conference game will we lose that we should win? Which game will we win that we should lose? Austin Nunn- Peyton Bowen or Robert Spears Jennings? Or will Venables find a way to get both on the field at the same time alongside Billy? Wishbone Willy- How fast do you think the offense will go this year? IMO the offense the last few years have been like a Ferrari with one speed. Will there be more nuance to the hurry up under Littrell? Will we use any 2-back sets? @SoonerGnome17- There was a lot of loud doubt heading into BV's first season. Fans rejected that, but found it justified at the end of the season. Billy Bowman came back to OU to win a championship. Should we start calling him "Bill" Bowman (24:30)? Brent Venables is confident about the depth at offensive and defensive line. Venables also warned that there's no guarantees that OU will have an elite defense this season (30:00). Venables gave us some injury updates on Andrel Anthony, Jalil Farooq, and others. Chase Robinson and Chris Lee preview Oklahoma's football roster for the 2024 season and share their predictions for Brent Venables and the Sooners. Topics include: Jaxson Arnold steps in at Qb for Dillion Gabriel who departed to Oregon. Loaded at skill positions with Gavin Sawchuk at running back and and led the team last year running the ball. Sam Franklin has transferred in at RB and could make an immediate impact. The Sooners are stacked at WR with Deion Burks transferring in from Purdue and will be most likely be the leader catching. Nic Anderson should be a big time pass catcher as well. Offensive line is strong this year with 5 transfers but they 114 total starts with none returning. On defense they have a great secondary with guys like Danny Strutsman, Billy Bowman, and Gentry Williams. McDaid also mentions a small rule change that could have a big effect on a game. Next, Oklahoma safety Billy Bowman joins to discuss the variety of a college football career that now moves from the Big 12 to the SEC. Bowman also explains how long a 100-yard pick six feels when it's happening. Want to watch the show instead? The guys open the show briefly talking about Grant's recent trip Yellowstone National Park before jumping into their Preseason SEC Polls. Lee decided to rank his teams based on predicted order of finish, while Grant chose to treat this as a Power Poll of SEC teams. We both begin with Georgia as number 1 and predicted SEC Champion (2:40). Lee goes over his tier 2 teams that he thinks the floor is 9-3. There's also a discussion about Michigan's prospects for 2024 (11:50). Grant runs down his tier 2 teams in his preseason SEC Power Poll (28:00). Lee lists finishes up the top 10 teams in his preseason poll (45:30). Grant lists five more teams that he believes is in Tier 3 of the SEC. Grant's convinced Missouri is very overrated heading into 2024 (53:35). The guys finish up their preseason polls and recap (1:02:45). EA College Football 25 talk. Arch Manning is in the game and is rated higher than Jackson Arnold. Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman are in the top 100. Isn't Shedeur Sanders slow? Will Jayden Gibson be criminally underrated in this game? And other musings (1:06:00). Brief updated roster talk. We're kind of worried about PJ Adebawore. Dillon Gabriel is now the favorite to win the Heisman on ESPN Bet (1:19:50). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets

On today's show, we catch up with Oklahoma Sooners WR Nic Anderson who is coming off of a breakout redshirt freshman season where he recorded 798 receiving yards and a freshman school record for touchdown catches with ten. We talk with Nic about how the Sooners spring practices went, and what he's seen from QB Jackson Arnold as he takes over as the next big QB in Norman. Anderson also talks about the addition of WR Deion Burks to the offense, as well as the new pieces to the offensive line. And we touch on the defense which looks to be loaded once again with guys like Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman returning, along with some big pieces on the defensive line. And we get Nic's thoughts on his head coach Brent Venables. We also touch on the Sooners coming to the SEC, we ask Nic how excited folks in Norman are to join the best conference in the country, and getting to visit places they haven't visited in a while like Auburn, Ole Miss, Mizzou and LSU. And we ask Nic what he does in his spare time when he's not playing football. What did Kim Mulkey do? Billy Bowman, Jesse Crittenden join the program.
Oklahoma star defensive back Billy Bowman joins Steelman and Thune at Noon to discuss his spring so far, why he came back to OU and his thoughts on the Sooners joining the SEC.
No opening take, as the guys jump into some Danny Stutsman talk. Chris Low's got Stutsman as an All-American for 2024 (2:45). Billy Bowman's not on Chris Low's list. Maybe OU won't have the best safety in the SEC. What other OU defensive player would you like see make an All-American team in 2024 (12:30)? Dillon Gabriel's listed as the 2nd team QB on Chris Low's list. What else stands out from this "way too early" team (21:50)? Zac Alley's bringing a friend with him from Jax State (31:20). Alex Grinch is headed to Wisconsin. We go over Grinch's time as a DC at OU and USC. We take a look at the defensive backs that Grinch brought in to OU-- and it's not good at all. But hey, we like Alex Grinch and we hope he figures it out at some point (33:20). Jim Harbaugh is leaving Michigan for the NFL. Grant says Michigan will take a step back and Lee tends to agree (49:40). Former LSU WR Kayshon Boutte is in a lot of trouble because of underage sports betting. Lee finds many aspects of this story interesting and entertaining (56:15). Some thoughts on Baker Mayfield's recent playoff game against the Bucs. We thought he played pretty well. And what was with the Bucs not calling a timeout when Detroit was taking knees at the end of the game (1:05:25)? Thoughts on the AFC & NFC Championship matchups. Are you sure you want to bet against Patrick Mahomes (1:17:20)? OU men's basketball is reeling after back-to-back home losses. Grant has many thoughts (1:22:00). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
No opening take as the guys open their 300th episode with our swan song for Dillon Gabriel as he takes his talents to Oregon. Grant says if Oregon makes the Playoff and OU goes 6-6 next year then Venables could be in trouble. Lee is looking forward to seeing DG play in the Big Ten (01:30). We dive into all the roster news involving Danny Stutsman, Billy Bowman, Cayden Green, and more (16:10). OU picks up a transfer WR from Purdue who reminds Grant of a former Sooners receiver. The OU WR room is looking outstanding right now (31:00). OU got a transfer CB out of SDSU and what's going to happen with Woodi Washington (38:35)? What's going on with Tawee Walker? The guys once again provide a full throated defense of what was OU's best running back for most of the season (43:40). We go down the list of Sooners who've entered the portal and are likely gone (55:50). The guys would love to see a few key defensive players come back next season (1:07:30). We turn our attention to the Alamo Bowl (1:09:45). We haven't talked about the Playoff teams yet, so we do it now. We both think Washington got jobbed and the Committee made the wrong call. Rants ensue, including a homer call by Lee that is impossible to prove. We also complain about OU missing out on a NY6 bowl game (1:19:40). Lee thinks we are on a crash course for a Texas-Alabama rematch with Texas winning it all and we hate it (1:38:00). A little on Jayden Daniels winning the Heisman, what's going on at Texas A&M?, and the SEC is about to release the full 2024 schedule (1:41:25). Grant wants to show some love for OU's unbeaten men's basketball team (1:54:30). | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonTweets
