Host Pat Reidy had the unique opportunity to sit down to an intimate conversation with Jonathan Roumie in front of a small, live JSerra audience while Jonathan was on campus in August of 2024. The audio of their interview is presented here in its entirety. Jonathan Roumie spent 20 years in Hollywood playing minor roles and doing voice overs when the creator of the hit Christian series, The Chosen, with whom Jonathan had previously work, called and asked Jonathan if he was, “ready to put the sandals back on.” That moment changed the struggling actor's career. The Chosen is the first ever crowdfunded streaming series and has come to be known and loved by Catholics and Christians across the world. Many fans and critics call Jonathan's version of Jesus “the best in any film or television depiction.” Jonathan grew up in a first-generation American family on the east coast and was raised Catholic. His depiction of Jesus demonstrates a personal intimacy with Christ that comes through in the humanity and accessibility he lends to the role. Jonathan talks about this aspect of learning how to play Jesus, from his prayer life to his being overwhelmed to be associated with the God whom he loves and serves. Besides The Chosen, the actor is also known for his role as evangelist Lonnie Frisbee in the 2023 film Jesus Revolution and in the soon-to-be-released Heart of a Servant. He is also a voice artist and a sought-after public speaker, particularly on the Catholic Conference circuit.

Tim has been a practicing attorney and CPA for nearly 40 years and is the Founder of The Busch Firm. He is also the Founder and CEO of Pacific Hospitality Group, a premier hotel development and management company with a portfolio of hotels and resorts throughout the United States. Tim and his wife Steph co-founded St. Anne School in California, where Tim served as Chairman and CEO for 17 years; they went on to co-found JSerra Catholic High School. Tim's passion for wine led him to found Trinitas Cellars, LLC, in 2002, located in Napa, California. Tim and Steph are also active supporters of several prominent Catholic organizations and were instrumental in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange purchasing the Crystal Cathedral. This week, I have the privilege of talking with Tim Bush about his early entrepreneurial ventures as a young man to build a successful law and tax advisory firm serving high net worth clients. Today we will be talking with Chris Ledyard, the Athletic Director of JSerra High School. Prior to his work at JSerra, Chris spent over 20 years as Athletic Director at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. For Catholic schools, sports is always a key component to the proper fulfillment of our faith mission. During our program, we will dive into the issues of integrating faith, virtues and moral values into athletics in schools. Episode 59 Blake Hawksworth knows what it's like to experience the highs and lows of athletics. Rated as one of the top high school pitchers in the 2001 Major League Baseball draft class, Hawksworth was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in 28th round that summer. He instead enrolled at Bellevue Community College in Washington state, where he played for one season before signing with the St. Louis Cardinals. After just two seasons, Baseball America rated him as the top prospect in the Cardinals' organization. Injuries plagued his career, though, and limiting him to three seasons in the major leagues from 2009-2011 with the Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers. But he's remained heavily involved in the game since retiring in a coaching capacity. He serves as the pitching coach at JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, California, but before that he was the pitching coach at Grand Canyon University, an assistant coach at California State-Fullerton, and an assistant basketball coach at Eastlake High School in Washington, where he graduated from also and starred as a basketball player. Hawksworth was a talented basketball player as well, and he talks about his love of hoops and sharing that with his son, Jackson, in this conversation with Matt and Leslee Holliday. He talks about the pressure he felt as a high school athlete, feeling like he needed to perform and focus on statistics instead of just helping his team. He also shares how he dealt with the disappointment his injuries brought and how his faith in God was shaped throughout the struggles and joys of his life and athletic career. Inducted into the Sports Faith Hall of Fame in 2015, the next year he became the Athletic Director at JSerra Catholic High School after more than 20 years at the helm of the athletic program at Franciscan University. Before that he was a Catholic high school vice principal. Married with six children, he was a college athlete (wrestler at Ithaca College) and has coached track and field, soccer, and wrestling.
