“I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” (Ephesians 1:18 NLT) People come up to me and ask, “Greg, what’s the one thing you can say to a nonbeliever that will cause them to accept Christ?” Like I know the hidden secret. Like I’m going to say, “Since you asked, I’m going to show you the ultimate evangelism hack. Here’s what you do.” Sorry to disappoint you, but there’s no such thing as the ultimate evangelism hack. When I share my faith, I do the same thing that most of you probably do. I just tell my story. I tell people about Jesus, and I pray that the Lord will open their eyes. You may witness to one person and find that it’s like talking to a brick wall. Nothing. No response at all. And then when you witness in the same way to another person, boom! They get it. They’re responsive to your message. So always pray for the Lord to open a person’s eyes. I remember when my eyes were opened. I was seventeen years old, and I was listening to Lonnie Frisbee. He made one statement that resonated powerfully with me. He said, “Jesus said you’re for Me or you’re against Me.” And suddenly, I got it. I don’t know why I got it at that moment. I don’t know what it was about that statement. But when I heard it, it was like a light switched on inside me. Up until that moment, I had been looking cynically and critically at the Christian faith. And then I realized it was all true. It was all real. I should point out that it’s possible to have your eyes open and still not be a Christian. I’ve met people who say, “I agree that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that He lived a sinless life. I believe that He died on the cross for my sin. I believe that He rose again from the dead. I believe that He’s coming back again. I believe that the Bible is the Word of God. But that’s it. I believe it, but I’m not going to act on it.” So having your eyes opened doesn’t necessarily guarantee anything. But it’s a necessary first step. And only God can open a person’s eyes. Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:18 for God to open the eyes of nonbelievers. And when you’re sharing your faith, the first thing you should do is pray, “Lord, open this person’s eyes because there’s nothing I can say or do that will make this person believe.” There are a lot of people in your orbit who fit Paul’s description in Ephesians 4:18: “Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him” (NLT). Will you be bold and caring enough to reach out to them? To show them the light of the gospel? And to ask God to open their eyes to His truth? Reflection Question: How can you help facilitate an eye-opening moment in the life of someone you know? Plugged In - The Official Podcast for JSerra Catholic High School
Host Pat Reidy had the unique opportunity to sit down to an intimate conversation with Jonathan Roumie in front of a small, live JSerra audience while Jonathan was on campus in August of 2024. The audio of their interview is presented here in its entirety. With both laughter and poignancy, The Chosen actor explains his work and hobbies prior to acting, the crisis moment that led to his total surrender to Christ, and how God's miraculous response to that prayer landed him his first lead role after a 20-year struggle in Hollywood. With humility, sincerity, and approachability, Jonathan discusses why his faith is the center of his life and how playing the role of Jesus has revolutionized not only his career, but his entire life. Jonathan Roumie spent 20 years in Hollywood playing minor roles and doing voice overs when the creator of the hit Christian series, The Chosen, with whom Jonathan had previously work, called and asked Jonathan if he was, “ready to put the sandals back on.” That moment changed the struggling actor's career. The Chosen is the first ever crowdfunded streaming series and has come to be known and loved by Catholics and Christians across the world. Many fans and critics call Jonathan's version of Jesus “the best in any film or television depiction.” Jonathan grew up in a first-generation American family on the east coast and was raised Catholic. His depiction of Jesus demonstrates a personal intimacy with Christ that comes through in the humanity and accessibility he lends to the role. Jonathan talks about this aspect of learning how to play Jesus, from his prayer life to his being overwhelmed to be associated with the God whom he loves and serves. Besides The Chosen, the actor is also known for his role as evangelist Lonnie Frisbee in the 2023 film Jesus Revolution and in the soon-to-be-released Heart of a Servant. He is also a voice artist and a sought-after public speaker, particularly on the Catholic Conference circuit.
Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with the senior pastor of the Harvest Christian Fellowship, Greg Laurie. They discuss the true story behind the hit film “The Jesus Revolution,” Laurie's relationship with hippie-preacher and counter-culture icon Lonnie Frisbee, how he found faith in the most unlikely of places, and the past 50 years of building his world-renowned ministry. Greg Laurie is the senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship with campuses in California and Hawaii. He began his pastoral ministry at the age of 19 by leading a Bible study of 30 people. Since then, God has transformed that small group into a church of some 15,000 people. Today, Harvest is one of the largest churches in America and consistently ranks among the most influential churches in the country. In 1990, Laurie began holding large-scale public evangelistic events called Harvest Crusades. Since that time, more than 9.8 million people have participated in these events in person or online around the United States. In 2012, Laurie launched Harvest America, a nationwide event using the internet to simulcast live HD video to thousands of locations across the country. With an unprecedented 306,000 Americans in live attendance, Harvest America ranks among the largest presentations of the gospel in United States history. Harvest Crusades have also been held internationally in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. More importantly, some 531,889 people have made professions of faith through these outreaches. In 2020 and in partnership with Kingdom Story Company, Laurie premiered his first-ever cinematic crusade, “A Rush of Hope,” viewed by over 2 million people in its opening weekend. Laurie is the featured speaker of the nationally syndicated radio program, A New Beginning, which is broadcast on more than 1,200 radio outlets around the world. Laurie's weekly television program, “Harvest + Greg Laurie,” is carried on major TV networks such as Lifetime, Fox Business, Newsmax, Daystar, KCAL 9 Los Angeles, and the Trinity Broadcasting Network. On today's program, we take a look at the top 10 stories of the year from MinistryWatch. This list is based purely the number of page views, so in a very real sense, you could say that our readers compiled this list. However, for purposes of this podcast, I'm going to tweak with the list a bit. If you look strictly at the page views of individual stories, you get an interesting picture, but not a complete picture. For example, our #1 story of the year is an article I wrote about Lonnie Frisbee. That story got more than 100,000 page views this year. But it was not really a breaking news story. It was a story that I wrote years ago, but which people who saw the movie “Jesus Revolution” found when they went searching for Lonnie Frisbee's name. He played a prominent role in that story. But if you look at #2, you'll see the story of former Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz, who had a very public scandal two years ago, but is now on staff in a church in Oklahoma. And if you keep scrolling down the list, to #18, you will find another Hillsong story, the story of Hillsong founder Brian Houston's daughter and son-in-law resigning from the ministry in protest. And MinistryWatch did a total of more than two dozen stories about Hillsong in 2023. Only two of these stories made the top 25, but most of them were in the top 100 stories of the year. To my way of thinking that makes Hillsong the number one MinistryWatch story of 2023. So while Lonnie Frisbee's story came out to be #1 in page views, you're naming the ongoing scandal at Hillsong the #1 story of the year. And it also means that while the list we publish on our website has 25 individual articles, today we're going to do a list of the top 10 stories of the year, some of which we covered with multiple articles. FINAL THOUGHTS If you'd like to help us reach our year-end goal, just go to MinistryWatch.com and hit the donate button at the top of the page. But whether you give to us or not, we hope you will use our database to help you make giving decisions. And that you will give wisely and generously during this season. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. I'd like to acknowledge all the writers who had stories in the Top 25 list this year. They include Bob Smietana, Steve Rabey, Kim Roberts, Phil Cooke, you, Warren. Until next time, may God bless you.
Alex and I had a great time reviewing the Jesus Revolution and the part Hope Chapel played in it.It was what historians call a spiritual awakening. I only realized that as it ended. Until then my peer group mostly thought we were smarter than those who had preceded us.It couldn't be called just a revival as it wasn't about reviving a dying church but effected a transformation in the outside culture. One of the early earmarks of the movement was the presence of miracles. Mostly we saw people delivered from the grip of hard drugs without counseling or treatment. But there were healings, events involving protection from fires and extreme weather, and of course healings. The Jesus Revolution movie is worth watching as it catches much of what the Spirit was doing. However, it would need to be a prolonged series to fully depict those exciting times. After others view the film I get asked, "Did those things really happen?" The answer is that those things did happen but in a larger sense than could be depicted on film. The baptisms were bigger. The miracles were everyday events. Chuck Smith was a great Bible teacher going into it and Lonnie Frisbee was no rebel but had a supernatural anointing that caused some leaders discomfort.I hope the talk Alex initiated will strengthen you in your own hunger for more from God.For more from Alex check his website at dandelionresourcing.com. I sometimes tell inquirers at St. Herman's when they ask that I began my Christian life in earnest as a Jesus People—which usually results in blank stares, since most of them are too young to have heard of the cultural phenomenon known as the Jesus People Movement. The movement has recently come up again for notice in a film called “Jesus Revolution”, based on the true events of the founding of Calvary Chapel in California under Pastor Chuck Smith (d. 2013) and his long-haired hippie protégé Lonnie Frisbee. The film, a well done and positive presentation of the events, stars Kelsey Grammer and features the role of Greg Laurie (played by Joel Courtney) as a new convert to Christ at Smith's Calvary Chapel, and as someone who would go on to found Harvest Christian Fellowship Church, with campuses in California and Hawaii. Harvest Ministries is the group which released the film.

Welcome to Grace in Focus radio/podcast. Today, Bob Wilkin and Ken Yates are talking about a recent movie, “The Jesus Revolution,” and Lonnie Frisbee's gospel. Was his saving message legit? Why or Why not? What was the Jesus movement in the early ‘70s like? Where is Lonnie Frisbee now?
The combination of our recent experiences of “Thin Spaces” between heaven and earth, and the powerful sense of God's manifest presence through the body of Christ at Misty Creek, reminded me again of the scene from Jesus Revolution where Lonnie Frisbee spoke to Pastor Chuck Smith. He said, “My people are sheep without a shepherd, chasing hard after lies. It's a quest for God. How can you not see that? There is an entire generation right now searching for God. I know we must seem a little strange. But if you look a little deeper, if you look with love, you'll see a bunch of kids that are searching for all the right things, just in all the wrong places. And my people, well, they're a desperate bunch. And desperation, man, there is power in that word. What would it take for you, Chuck Smith, to be desperate?” I felt the Lord remind me of two things that I will address in two parts: God Vision—The World, and God Vision—The Church. Grace and Peace,Stephen

The start of this episode, as the guys suggest improvements to Narnia, when you should be fine with a dad bod, and that time Nate almost died, is not to be missed. They also touch base on parenting submissive but fearless boys, when not working out is a good sacrifice (and when it's lazy), postmillennialism, and why the Narnia Chronicles as as series would be "much better" if "The Last Battle" was a better book. Then they finally get to the long-awaited Jesus Revolution episode: What is a "faith film"? What do "Chariots of Fire" and "Jesus Revolution" and Terrence Malick have in common? How is Jesus Rev organized? What's up with Lonnie Frisbee? How does the Spirit work in times of chaos, and does God care about the carpets? How can organizations use young people? How can hippies and squares co-exist? Ultimately Jesus Revolution is the story of parents reconciling with their children when they both find the Truth: because He is powerful. #JesusRevolution #ChariotsofFire #NDWilson #sasf #StoriesAreSoulFood #SasfLampC #watchingmovies #filmcriticism #TerrenceMalick #Narnia #TheLastBattle #CSLewis

“We need a spiritual awakening in America so bad right now,” Pastor Greg Laurie tells Glenn on this Easter weekend episode of "The Glenn Beck Podcast." Our society has abandoned God and embraced sin … but he's seen this before. Back in the 1960s and ‘70s, Greg was a part of possibly the biggest Christian movement in American history, now dubbed the “Jesus Revolution,” when hippies gave up their LSD and embraced Jesus Christ. It's now at the heart of the recent film “The Jesus Revolution,” featuring Kelsey Grammer and Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus in “The Chosen.” Greg tells Glenn just how similar today's America is to the era of the Jesus Revolution and why he believes “we might be poised to see another spiritual awakening” very soon. He and Glenn also discuss the importance of family and parenthood, especially given everything children struggle with today. And he reveals some of the events only God could have orchestrated that led to the filming of “Jesus Revolution,” including the true and tragic story of Lonnie Frisbee. But, as Greg tells Glenn, it's often the greatest tragedies that bring total redemption. SPONSORS: Home title fraud is growing 2.5x faster than credit card fraud. Summary: John Ruttkay (best friend of Lonnie Frisbee) never imagined being part of a church much less part of what became the Jesus Movement. He was questioning, “Who is God?” when someone approached him and said, “It's Jesus Christ. That's who you're looking for.” It was then his life was radically changed! Looking at the move of God today, John says, “This groundswell is looking just like when we got touched by the Lord.” Join John and host Doug Stringer as they share stories about God moving during the Jesus Movement, discuss 5 things that marked believers during that time and compare it to what God is doing today. The guys discuss the new movie, Jesus Revolution. The movie shares the story of Pastor Chuck Smith, Greg Laurie, and Lonnie Frisbee and how they started a revolution for Jesus in Southern California. They talk about the movie and the events that lead to the revolution and how it's connected to the world today.
In their usual, insightful, heartfelt conversations about religion and politics, Paul (a licensed minister and former pastor) and Ashley (former Mayor of Fresno, CA) share about seeing the story of spiritual hero Lonnie Frisbee portrayed in a movie on the big screen and reckoning with their own religious and spiritual history. It's an honest conversation about pain and joy and desiring a true relationship with heaven/divine/supernatural, rather than the exclusive, religious pathway they've known from their family heritage. #InspireU #evangelicalish #ReligiousRightReligiouslyWrong #PostEvangelical #PostEvangelicalPodcast #UnconventionalPastor #GodIsNOTmadAtYou #MindRenewal @PastorPaul_TikTok #WellBeing #DeconstructionU #ReconstructionU

An important part of what we do here at MinistryWatch – especially with these “Extra” episodes -- is to bring to you thought leaders who have important things to say both to donors and to ministry leaders. That's why I'm pleased to have back on the program Phil Cooke. Phil wrote a provocative article for his webite, PhilCooke.com. It's called “Can Christian Critics Just Give The Asbury Revival, The Chosen, and He Gets Us A Rest? Phil graciously consented to let us reprint that article on the MinistryWatch website. You can find it here. And to be on the program today to talk about the article and some of the ideas it raises. Phil Cooke is a working producer in Hollywood who also has a Ph. D. in theology. He's the author of a half-dozen books on media and marketing and has been a contributor to Fast Company, Forbes, and The Huffington Post. He is also a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences as well as the Producer's Guild of America. FINAL NOTES: In today's program I mentioned my article about Lonnie Frisbee. Jonathan Roumie—actor, director, producer, and speaker—is best known for his award-winning role as ‘Jesus' in the groundbreaking series and global sensation, "The Chosen.” His new movie, the Lionsgate period drama “Jesus Revolution,” is based on the events of the last great spiritual revival in America. Roumie portrays the enigmatic, hippie street preacher, Lonnie Frisbee. On this episode, he gives us a peek at his in-depth approach to the work, which ranges from authentic ‘Method' to ‘mystically inspired.' He talks about how his occasional need for solitude on set stems from being easily distracted, why chemistry reads should be not just for romantic portrayals, how the role of Jesus has completely changed his life, and how he's dealing with all that role demands from him. Plus much more! Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from Filmmaker Magazine. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft. Follow Back To One on Instagram
