Let us know if you have any comments or suggestions scalemodelpodcast@gmail.com.Hi Guys,Listening to Episode 153, I want to commend for your Literature reading, the novels by Philip Kerr. He wrote a series of 13 books in which the protagonist is a German policeman: they begin during the Weimar Republic years, span the Nazi period, and continue into the post-WW II era. The writing style leans heavily towards Raymond Chandler. They are NOT for the squeamish, however, as the historical accuracy is pretty spot-on. I recommend starting with Kerr's final volume, "Metropolis", which is set historically before the rest of the books in the series. As a testament to how much I like these books, I've read the entire series TWICE!Lastly, Stuart commented, in regard to a new Eduard Bf-109 E kit, that Adolf Galland had the most aerial victories in WW II. In this episode, Hazel reflects on the passage of time and the importance of moving from a state of compulsiveness to one of consciousness. They share personal experiences of a mixed week, emphasising the quest for true freedom—both external and internal. KEY TAKEAWAYS Awareness of Time: Life can often feel like it's rushing by, and it's important to become more conscious of how we spend our time and the experiences we have each day. Inner Freedom: True freedom is an internal experience rather than something dependent on external circumstances. It’s essential to recognise that the feeling of freedom comes from within. Direct Experience: Our only reliable reference point in life is our own direct experience. By focusing on the present moment and what we are experiencing, we can cultivate a sense of peace and liberation. Mindfulness Practice: Taking moments throughout the day to stop, breathe, and let go of distractions can help us reconnect with a sense of well-being and inner peace. Neutrality of Life: For most of us, life is generally neutral and peaceful. By acknowledging this, we can shift our perspective and reduce stress, recognizing that many of our worries are not as pressing as they seem. BEST MOMENTS"What I really notice... is that we can actually miss a big chunk of our lives by just going through and doing the usual stuff." "The only thing that we know is our own direct experience of life." "If you find yourself searching for a sense of freedom... just stop for a moment. Just literally stop." "99% of the time, life is actually pretty neutral." "Every single day is a gift. I wake up in the morning and I remind myself that which I'm truly grateful." She and her husband built a successful, multi-million-pound property business, next to their own careers, but soon realised that true freedom doesn’t JUST come from being financially independent… Having meant so much to her family, it has been her passion ever since, to inspire, educate and empower others on their journeys towards this 'Holy Grail'. During one particular property mentoring session back in 2009, she had a powerful recognition of exactly how to facilitate this. Nicknamed now, The Wealth Whisperer, she has a unique way of getting to the crux of what is needed to help fulfil this quest. CONTACT METHODS WebsiteInstagram
The Criteria crew continues its series on the films of Terrence Malick, jumping ahead to the experimental documentary Voyage of Time, which was co-produced by the Knights of Columbus! Voyage of Time portrays the history of the cosmos, the Earth, and the living creatures on it from the beginning of the universe to its end. The main point of the film is simply to evoke wonder at creation with its gorgeous photography, sound design and music. The film exists in two versions: a 45-minute version narrated by Brad Pitt (Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience), and a 90-minute version narrated by Cate Blanchett (Voyage of Time: Life's Journey). James, Thomas, and Nathan Douglas all agree that the long version is generally superior. However, they debate over the content of the narration (which, in both films, is of an existential rather than scientific nature). Thomas contends that the narration in the long version, rather than inspiring the viewer to seek the truth about the meaning of the universe, seems to leave us swimming in a muddled and uninspiring metaphysical soup. James defends the narration as a “phenomenological” portrayal of primitive man's varying interpretations of the cosmos, rather than a set of consistent truth propositions.

You are not going to win every hand in your plan, in your life. That is just the way it is. You get some really doozy hands sometimes when you are sick and when you are suffering and you have gotten a bad hand, you still have to play the hand. Pick up your cross and come and follow me. You can not just fold the hand every single time. And that is what the Lord is trying to tell us, that he is in every single hand. He will help us play the every single hand. Send us a Text Message.“Son, never trust us lawyers because we're going to fuck you every time.” In 1991, how did Freddi Szilagi find himself face to face, hand-delivering a $10,000 check to Edwin Edwards at the Hotel Monteleone? In short, because of Russ Solomon and Tower Records. For a more detailed explanation, you can hear our guest this week break it all down for you. Before he was enmeshed in the world of state politics, Freddi Szilagi grew up poor on the Upper East Side of New York City. His mother was an aspiring Opera singer who moved from one bedroom apartment to another with four kids, two dogs, and a grand piano. Having a father who was a piano prodigy, who blew off his scholarship to Julliard, you could safely say that Freddi grew up with music in the house. When a friend set up an interview for Freddi to work at the new Tower Records at 4th and Broadway, it set in motion a 17-year career taking him from NYC to working an A-Team project at the new store that had opened in New Orleans. Meeting the woman who would become his wife while opening the store, Freddi moved down to New Orleans working under Dan Shepard. Eventually, Dan left New Orleans, Freddi became the General Manager and he immediately set about highlighting the tremendous music that was coming out of the city of New Orleans. A large part of that was becoming a part of the fabric of the New Orleans Jazzfest. Freddi finished his Tower career at the Washington DC store, leaving after receiving an offer from a member of his kid's school PTA, who worked for Time-Life music. Make sure to check out this week's episode with Freddi recalling buying kid's music from the Mafia, profanity-filled conversations with Dr. John, and a whole lot more.

Don't tune in if you still believe in evil or the devil. Topic not ideal for ego-sensitive or emotionally sensitive (on any/all life - including socio-pol-eco - topics) people. Please do not tune in. Thank you! All IHP content resonates with people who want to achieve enlightenment the human way. IHP podcast host Maria Florio shares voices, stories and perspectives from her 5D mystic enlightenment functional adult life to give examples of what it's like to know emotional self-regulation skills, experience secure attachment, have functional adult conversations and experience 5D relationships (5D and beyond vibing people). You hear about how easy it is to be yourself, to pursue inner growth, to unconditionally love, to have compassion, and live your best life with outer and inner-well being in the forefront. Also explored, how to communicate and handle emotionally insecure adaptive children grown ups, the 3D or 4D vibing individuals, those who stay within insecure emotional human suffering vibration experience and mindset, or who hold drama as the go-to in relationships, or use projection due to unresolved and unaddressed trauma, attachment wounds, and inner child wounds that come up in their behavior. Since trauma is relational and intimacy necessary to heal it, through Maria's stories and perspectives people get an idea of securely attached options on how to handle projection to the best of your ability and create a safe environment for another person to heal or for you to set a healthy boundary if the person bringing the projection (3D/4D drama vibe) is not seeking to move beyond their safety behavior/unresolved trauma emotional response. THE LAST EMPEROR—It might be difficult to remember, at least for our younger listeners, how vast the Time-Life empire was. At its height, during the John Huey dynasty of the late 1990s/early 2000s, the company published over 100 magazines.Quite a rise from its humble beginning in 1922, when Henry Luce launched Time as the country's first newsweekly. It was followed shortly by Fortune in 1930, Life in 1936, Sports Illustrated in 1954, and, finally, People in 1974. It was the largest and most prestigious magazine publisher in the world—and those five titles were the bedrock. In 2006, Huey became the sixth editor-in-chief of Time Inc., overseeing more than 3,000 journalists. In an interview with New York magazine, Huey described Time Inc as having a “public trust” and perhaps “an importance beyond profitability.” But not even a giant as powerful as Time Inc. was immune to the financial havoc brought about by the new digital age.Huey retired in 2012, the last emperor of a vastly downsized and damaged empire. “Google sort of sucked all the honey out of our business,” he lamented then. In 2017, after Time was sold to its bitter rival Meredith Corporation, Huey tweeted “RIP, Time Inc. The 95-year run is over.”Our George Gendron talked to Huey about Fortune's battles with Forbes—and their pet names for each other, about giving Graydon Carter and Kurt Andersen at Spy a taste of their own medicine, about not hiring Tina Brown, and about what his mother really thought he should've done with his life. Specifically, hitting a plateau in her weight loss.I can almost hear all the heads nodding along on that one! Like so many of us, Kitsy played the diet yo-yo game for years, losing lots of weight at a time only to gain it back, plus more. As a new member of the Yummy Mummy Experience, she's been implementing what she's learned so far, but what gives with the plateau? That's exactly what we're going to dig into. And the best part is, you get a real taste of what it's like to be part of YMX and how it can work for you, too!Listen in and you'll hear more about: Kitsy's compelling why for weight loss that keeps her focused and committedWhether you should expect a weight loss plateauThe only two reasons you're not losing weightThe full rundown of Kitsy's protocol and my specific recommendations for herAND, if you didn't sign up in time for the January Yummy Mummy Experience, NO WORRIES. TVC 635.3: Greg Ehrbar joins Ed for a look at Get Smart (NBC/CBS, 1965-1970), the long-running spy satire starring Don Adams and Barbara Feldon and co-created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, including the excellent complete series DVD box set, produced by Paul Brownstein and Susan Kesler for Time-Life, that was designed specifically with Get Smart fans in mind. Greg describes the box set as “Barbara Feldon Presents Get Smart,” not only because she introduces every episode of every season (and provides many audio commentaries throughout), but because it makes you feel as if Barbara is watching the entire series with you. Lying unnoticed in many museums around the world are large numbers of ancient artefacts fashioned out of rock crystal or glass; lenticular in shape, they are habitually described by archaeologists and cataloguers as decorative in purpose; in short, as costume jewellery. To Robert Temple, however, who bolsters his classical and linguistic erudition with expertise in the field of optics, they are obviously and self-evidently lenses. As such, they form the starting point for The Crystal Sun, his wide-ranging and provocative investigation into the existence of an ancient science of optics. There is much to amaze here, not least the sheer volume of evidence that Temple is able to amass (and the seemingly even greater volume to which, for various tiresome reasons, he was unable to gain access). It is this density of proof, and the hardness of the science involved, that tend to dispel suspicions that we are entering Jesus-was-an-astronaut territory. The narrative of Temple's discoveries is cast almost as an intellectual detective novel. (A characteristic recurring motif is his exasperation with the small-mindedness and intellectual prejudice endemic in the archaeological profession.) From the physical lenses we move to the scattered descriptions of lenses, telescopes and their use by the Greeks and Romans, the destructive use of burning-mirrors by Archimedes at the siege of Syracuse, and the true role of Prometheus, who brought fire to man from heaven. A review of ancient optical theory takes the argument deep into esoteric realms of Gnostic and alchemical thought. Stonehenge as astronomical instrument is discussed--including the startling proposal that the great circle was originally roofed with a dome. Inevitably, perhaps, the argument eventually makes its way to Egypt, real or imaginary home of all mysteries. Here, in the long final section of the book entitled "The Eye of Horus", Temple excels himself. The scale and precision of Egyptian monuments require sophisticated surveying techniques and a supporting mathematics. Temple finds these hidden in myths, partially disguised in tomb paintings embodied in the very structure of the buildings themselves. Above all, it seems, the Egyptians used light and shadow with great virtuosity. The Pyramids themselves, once clad in smooth, reflective white marble, and casting precise shadows across each other, are characterised as mystical surveying instruments on the hugest possible scale.Temple is an engagingly garrulous and eccentric narrator, constantly interrupting himself, leaping forwards and back, starting hares he cannot pursue, pausing for personal paranormal reminiscences, but his passion and erudition are never in doubt. And is it true? Few readers can be in a position to decide. Reserve judgement, then, and enjoy an exhilarating intellectual adventure. --Robin DavidsonProfessor ROBERT TEMPLE is the author of a number of incisive and provocative books including the international bestseller, The Sirius Mystery. His books have been translated into a total of 44 foreign languages. Temple is Visiting Professor of the History and Pilosophy of Science at Tsinghua University in Beijing. For many years he was a science writer for the Sunday Times, the Guardian, and a science reporter for Time-Life, as well as a frequent reviewer for nature and profile writer for The New Scientist. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/2790919/advertisement

Geoff Calkins takes us to Memphis, where he has been a high-profile fixture in the sports media scene for 27 years. He tells us about the indefatigable Hubie Brown, a voicemail from the volatile Jerry West, and what the view was like from atop John Calipari's enemies list. Geoff explains the torture of writing on deadline at an overtime NCAA championship game. He recalls his struggles as a baseball beat reporter and what it was like to cover a Mike Tyson heavyweight championship fight. And he shares a tale involving exotic food at an Olympics. Oh my. Geoff also explains how his childhood leukemia led to writing, and why sports journalism lured him out of a career in law. Calkins has been named the best sports columnist in the country four times by the Associated Press Sports Editors and is a member of the Scripps Howard Hall of Fame. He recently moved to general news columnist at The Daily Memphian, where he had been writing a sports column since 2018 after spending the previous 22 years as the sports columnist for the Commercial Appeal in Memphis. He still hosts “The Geoff Calkins Show,” his sports radio program since 2010, five days a week. His 2016 book, “After the Jump,” chronicles how the Memphis sports scene grew over two decades. Before moving to Memphis, Calkins covered the Florida Marlins for the Sun-Sentinel of South Florida from 1994-96, and he was a high school sports reporter at the Anniston Star in Alabama for two years. Geoff had previously been a clerk in the U.S. Court of Appeals, D.C. Circuit, and a labor and employment attorney in Washington D.C. Switching from a law career to sports writing at age 31 eventually took Calkins to eight Olympics, multiple Super Bowls, World Series, and Masters golf tournaments. He has won various journalism awards, including a first-place honor in the 2022 APSE contest for a feature story looking back 20 years at Tyson's loss to Lennox Lewis in Memphis. Calkins graduated from Harvard in 1983 and from Harvard Law in '87. He served as editor-in-chief for the school's paper, The Harvard Independent, and worked summer internships for Time Life and the Miami Herald. He earned a master's degree from Columbia University's School of Journalism. Calkins grew up outside Buffalo, New York as the eighth of nine children.
