This episode is one of the most interesting and exciting shows I've published to date. Why? It is all about bringing higher consciousness to businesses, and that is so needed and important. Gaurav Bhatnagar and Mark Minukas of Co-Creation Partners are doing just that - helping businesses transform to improve their overall performance by addressing the "inner aspects" of business organizations. And this is pioneering work that shows that, with guidance, businesses can shift consciousness. And, of course, this is very significant because most businesses have steered away from that until now. But human consciousness is now evolving at an increasing pace, and it must change in organizations and collectively as well as in individuals. So, I view this as a major indicator that the evolution of consciousness is picking up speed. Gaurav and Mark share how they are doing these amazing transformations, and it involves helping business leaders experience inner awareness and change in themselves through internal workshops. They talk about mindsets rather than consciousness or spirituality, but that opens up possibilities of expanding awareness and inner change. Once these leaders begin to "awaken", then they can tackle group interactions next and eventually help these organizations incorporate greater awareness/insights into their business systems and strategies. Those things lead to happier employees and better service to customers which improves the bottom line. I predict that we will hear much more about "spirituality in business" in the near future. Gaurav and Mark also have a book called Unfear: Transform Your Organization to Create Breakthrough Performance and Employee Well-Being. The final episode of Season 3 takes us to the precipice of change, looking at the topic of Fear. We discuss this with Mark Minukas, co-author of Unfear, a book on the very topic. As someone who had to face into fear a few times, transitioning from a career as a civil engineer in the US Navy, to navigating the corporate world of management consulting, Mark shares how the discomfort of this change gave him perspective and forced him to see himself in ways he was previously blind to.Mark explains the inaccuracy of the concept that to be strong and trusted, particularly if in a position of leadership, you are ineffective if you show vulnerability. Instead that trust comes from comes from competence and equally from honesty. It's a false dichotomy that trust is built from an all or nothing approach. Vulnerably, Mark shares how he has dealt with perceptions of male ‘strength', and placing too much value being motivated by others' perception of him, to intervene in the stories he was being told and was telling himself. Through intervention, and self-reflection, Mark illustrates how we can use fear and fear-driven reactions to our benefit, to better understand what we're trying to ‘react' to and what threatens our self-identity. The game is to be curious, Mark says, and use fear as a cue for learning more about yourself.--To look outside Mark turns to books that activate his mind in different ways. While he reads business books, it's fiction he has rediscovered a love for, and uses for deeper human insight. As Albert Camus famously said, 'Fiction is the lie through which we tell the truth.'Mark also leverages meditation to create distance to the busy-ness of a cluttered mind ... though he resisted it for a while thinking it was silly, and certainly against type.--Mark Minukas has been helping organizations transform their business performance for over 15 years. His work has taken him around the world exploring all kinds of industries – manufacturing, technology, travel and logistics, government, and financial services. Through this he discovered that human beings are the core of any organization. How people show up, communicate, problem solve, and lead determines how large the gap is between strategy and execution. He now advises, consults, and coaches senior leaders and their teams on how they can design effective improvement programs and harness the talent and creativity of their people to achieve significantly better business results.Mark began exploring the topics of leadership and operational improvement when he was an officer in the US Navy. An engineer by training, he studied how humans and organizations affected the reliability and safety of engineered systems. Following this, Mark ventured to McKinsey and Company as member of the Operations Practice. There he actively learnt about the technical aspect of organizational transformation and process improvement (lean management based on the Toyota Production System), but also the softer or cultural side of transformation. Today, Mark is Managing Partner at Co-Creation Partners, supporting clients with multi-year lean and agile transformation programs and activating operational excellence.Mark is also co-author of the book Unfear: Transform your organization to create breakthrough performance and employee well-being, alongside Co-Creation Partners' Founder, Guarav Bhatnagar, and is a trained executive coach through Newfield Network.--Connect...

He also learned that a man should not share emotions. His mother's family also taught him to take a more light-hearted approach to life. In the United States Navy he was taught to care about those he worked with, and what enables teams to thrive and achieve their goals. After leaving the USN, his work at McKinsey & Company led him to believe any problem can be solved.Temperament and Personality InfluencesOver time Mark realized his win-lose paradigm had inadvertently strained relationships with people. He values open communication and candor so others can share their ideas.More Great Insights! Mark wrote Unfear with his business partner, which describes the performance of organizations from the inside out, beginning with individual mindsets which influence how they show up and work in teams, which further influences how organizations perform. Mark Minukas is the co-author of the book Unfear: Transform Your Organization to Create Breakthrough Performance and Employee Wellbeing. He's the managing partner of Co-Creation Partners and an engineer by trade. He began his career as a Navy officer, before working as a consultant at Mackenzie and Company. There, he mastered the art of transforming teams and creating success. He has worked across multiple industries to build high-performing operations.  “Even the most profitable companies on the planet aren't fear-free. But here's what makes them different: Those companies know how to transform that negative energy of fear and anxiety and uncertainty into opportunities for learning and growth and development.” [3:20] “Sometimes we see fear and love as two completely separate things. But part of what we want to communicate to the world is that fear can actually be this amazing cue for learning and growth.” [6:55] “I looked around and had this intense experience that it was all a mirage.” [9:45] After striving for the approval of other people, forces, or circumstances, Mark remembers an intense realization that would change his life forever.  There's the Fight Club and the Nice Club. Each of these groups represents different peoples' approaches to life. The Fight Clubs needs to stand out and be special. The Nice Club, by contrast, are people that just keep their heads down. Likeables, minions, sticklers – people that shy away from conflict.  “How can you drive performance and human well-being at the same time?” [20:00] is one of the questions Mark tackles in his book. All too often, leaders think it's one or the other – it doesn't have to be.  “There's a few key mindsets we talk about in our book. One of those is that you are infinite potential.” [24:22] “Shifting from a knower to a learner mindset” [25:45] is a critical part of Mark's strategy. He affirms that we should go into situations ready to learn and ready to ask questions, rather than assuming we already know what to do.  “Almost always we live through our assumptions and interpretations of the world… Oftentimes we engage with people without acknowledging the difference between observation and interpretation.” [36:15] “Organizations don't transform, people do.” [39:05] “When a critical mass of people start shifting what they're believing you can get the whole system to tip over.” [39:12] Mark says that this is how you enact true, meaningful change in an organization.  Resources www.cocreationpartners.com www.unfearbook.com

They focus on how people show up, communicate, problem-solve, and lead to determine how large the gap is between strategy and execution.  Together Gaurav and Mark researched and authored a book, Unfear: Transform Your Organization to Create Breakthrough Performance and Employee Well-Being. They suggest we have two superpowers: the power of imagination, and the power of language, which we use to craft our future. In our imagination, we see fear as something bad that we need to protect against, and as a result, we show up in a certain way. Yet, if we imagine it as an opportunity for learning, shifting the language to ‘unfear,' it gives us a whole new avenue, partnering with fear to explore new ideas, opening a way for making choices and decisions. Gaurav and Mark had each been helping organizations transform their business performance for over 15 years prior to working together. Previously, Mark served in the Navy, working as an engineer, and then joined McKinsey as a business analyst, progressively elevating his role for several years. He and Gaurav first met partnering on a project there. Gaurav was an external vendor who did mindset and organizational culture work, while Mark brought operations expertise to the project. Initially, Mark was very skeptical about Gaurav's work, concerned that he might actually harm their project. Interestingly, Mark's view of Gaurav's contributions to their work quickly changed. Soon after they completed the work, Mark left McKinsey to start his own consulting firm, and periodically, he and Gaurav would collaborate on projects. A few years later, they officially joined together at Co-Creation Partners. In this week's Work From The Inside Out podcast, learn about Gaurav's and Mark's journeys: Gaurav and Mark each bring their strengths to combine into a cohesive team at Co-Creation Partners. They see that there are two parts to everything: there's a being part and a doing part. Mark is very good about creating discipline around systems and the corresponding implementation. Gaurav's strength is helping people shift their mindset, and presence, into solid behaviors.
