Tonight, Susan Taylor of Taylored Consultants and host Scott Graves provide a discussion targeted to be of help to our friends in Economic Development and Planning.  In a recent community that Susan has worked in, a program we're calling ‘Large Blue Schmucks' was recently launched as an incentive for consumers to engage in ‘support' of local business.   From its execution to its humble beginnings as an idea residing upon someone's desktop, this program went from bad to worse.  It's effectiveness with consumers has been in question and before that even became an issue, the public sphere took up the notion expressed by business owners operating outside the city downtown that it, along with all prior programs initiated by the city, were being used to exclude them.  Susan and Scott provide a synopsis of the program intentions, execution and results all while offering to you, the economic development professional, specific options to consider or steps to take to avoid such a mishap in your community before they become problems.  What to consider when doing the important work of economic development: inclusivity, diversity, spending time on the streets in your town, understanding people from their perspective and more.  That's what's in store on this SMG's ‘Are We Here Yet?' podcast.  ** Susan Taylor and Scott Graves are a part of the Business Triage Program.  A state subsidized business assistance service an exclusive part of M the Media Projects parent company, SMGraves Associates.

Phil Lambert was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. After completing his Music Degree, Phil relocated to Melbourne, Australia where he continued his musical career as a composer, teacher and performer and established his own company Cloudbreak Music®. Phil has now composed for Feature Films, Film Trailers, Short Films, Media Projects and TVCs, performed live at various venues, radio stations and an appearance on T.V as well as receiving radio play for his compositions along with interviews throughout Australia and New Zealand. He has also built a successful private woodwind teaching business and created the internationally recognised product Classical Fingers®. As a music educator, Phil has been teaching Clarinet, Saxophone and Flute for 18 years and now teaches privately from his studio in Kensington, Melbourne. Phil believes that private tuition is important as it not only establishes a bond between teacher and student, but it allows him to personally focus solely on each student's needs at the particular level they are at; “Every student is different so every lesson needs to be tailored to suit their ability and potential.” During Phil's years of teaching woodwind he encountered numerous players, both beginners and advanced, that naturally played the clarinet by lifting their fingers too high so he started experimenting with the idea of using a device to help reduce this movement. In 2011 Phil started developing a prototype that his students could use on a more regular basis away from the lesson and in 2014 the evolution of Classical Finegrs was finally realised. Since its release, Classical Fingers has now been sold to 28 countries including to: Teachers, Students, Stores, Universities, High Schools and Distributors. It has also won various Design Awards and has been exhibited in Australia, Korea, Frankfurt and USA. Phil is currently devloping Classical Fingers for the Flute. Ellen Bar attended the School of American Ballet for eight years before she was asked to join the New York City Ballet as a corps member in 1998 and promoted to Soloist in 2006.  In 2005, Ellen danced in the stage revival of Jerome Robbins’ NY Export: Opus Jazz, during which she and fellow soloist Sean Suozzi developed the idea to re-imagine the ballet for film, shot on location in present-day New York City.     Together, they developed and produced the feature-length 35mm film adaptation NY EXPORT: OPUS JAZZ and the accompanying documentary A BALLET IN SNEAKERS, which premiered at South by Southwest 2010, where it won an Audience Award, and aired on PBS’ Great Performances.     In 2011, Ellen retired from dancing and is now the Director of Media Projects for New York City Ballet, where she develops, produces and directs film and video content for the company.   Most recently Ellen produced her first feature length documentary, BALLET 422, directed by Jody Lee Lipes (and now her husband) and featuring NYC Ballet. BALLET 422 premiered in competition at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival and has been acquired by Magnolia Pictures.
