Western civilization isn't dying: it's already dead. That's the bad news. The good news is that the West can be reborn someday. It is the mystics, the martyrs, and the missionaries who must save the West once again. Michael Warren Davis joins the Joes to talk about his book "After Christendom", which explains how we should respond to the crisis of the early twenty-first century with the wisdom of the ages. Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”Michael Warren Davis joins Jack to discuss the crumbling pillars of modern civilization, drawing parallels with the decline observed by St. Augustine in "City of God." With insights from contemporary Christian luminaries like Pope Benedict XVI and C.S. Lewis, Davis argues compellingly that true societal transformation begins with deepening our relationship with Jesus Christ. We unpack the changing influence of Christianity in shaping cultural and institutional narratives, urging listeners to engage meaningfully beyond just the political arena, as emphasized by Bishop Fulton Sheen and Saint John Paul II. Embrace personal responsibility and love as we explore the profound teachings of Chesterton, Dostoevsky, and John Paul II. We tackle the challenges facing Generation Z, guiding them away from moral relativism toward a life of service, underpinned by the transformative power of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Through heartfelt stories and reflections, we underscore that Christianity transcends mere obligation, manifesting as an expression of love that fosters a profound intimacy with God. Our discussions also highlight the spiritual dimensions of everyday struggles, offering solace and perspective on mental health challenges faced by today's youth.Purchase "After Christendom" By Michael Warren Davis Here!!(The Video-Podcast of this Episode will be made available on Rumble later today. "There is no political, cultural or economic solution to the crisis we're facing because the crisis is not political, cultural or economic because it's spiritual. We're losing a spiritual battle. We're losing a war for the soul of the West. Everything else flows from that," says Michael Warren Davis, author of the upcoming book After Christendom. "Everything that flows from that the economic injustice, the cultural depravity, the moral decadence, the political corruption… all of that comes because we collectively as western civilization have rejected Jesus Christ. Until we commit our whole lives to the service of heaven, then nothing will change, nothing will get better." Davis is a contributing editor of The American Conservative and the author of The Reactionary Mind (Regnery, 2021). He previously served as editor of Crisis Magazine and U.S. editor of the Catholic Herald of London. His next book, After Christendom, will be published by Sophia Institute Press. Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”Imagine for a moment facing the sweltering heat of a Chicago summer, only to find that your recording session has been disrupted:) That's where our story begins in this episode of the "Become who you Are" podcast. Jack will take you through the unexpected twists and turns, including a missed interview with Linda Pieper and Michael Warren Davis, author of "After Christendom," and a deep dive into Bishop Sheen's prophetic warnings from 1974 about the decline of Christendom. Amidst reflections on societal breakdowns like marital dysfunction and dishonesty, we emphasize the pressing need to say "yes" to Jesus Christ. What is a reactionary and why would anybody claim to be one? That's the question I discuss today with Michael Warren Davis, author of The Reactionary Mind: Why Conservative Isn't Enough. Michael has written for Crisis, The American Conservative, and many other magazines. He describes a reactionary not as one pining for a return to a pristine order, but who purposefully reorients one's life toward what is eternal. We discuss the Middle Ages, Savonarola, the Puritans, and others who teach us how societal blessings come to those who pursue eternal things. Most of us have found ourselves at odds with someone in our lives who takes a different stance on the vaccine issue. James Kullander's "Letter to My Vaccinated Friend" is one of the most powerful things I've read in a while. It perfectly describes the situation so many of us are facing. With all the differing viewpoints competing for our allegiance, it's not surprising that we struggle to know what to believe. Caitlin Johnstone reminds us that we won't be free until our minds are free and that's a decision that each of us must make for ourselves. If you openly express your support for limiting the power over government to intrude into your life, that's a sure sign that you're a criminal to some folks. Charles C.W. Cooke sets the record straight and explains why, no, you don't have to be a criminal to want to limit government. Just when you wonder how much harder they could grab for additional power, the Biden administration is pushing for an IRS reporting requirement for any bank account with yearly transactions over $600. James Bovard spells out how this proposed policy might be used as a wrecking ball for financial privacy. On Monday, the Supreme Court handed down its decision on Bostock v. Clayton County. In it, the Court decided that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 would retroactively apply to homosexuals and transgenders, protecting them against employment discrimination. What was once the stuff of BuzzFeed rants is now the law of the land: homophobia and transphobia are now morally equivalent to racism and misogyny in the United States of America. The Bostock decision is bad. It is the most egregious instance of judicial activism since Obergefell v. Hodges, and perhaps even Roe v. Wade.
